Eastern Massachusetts Has Some of the Loveliest Hikes in New England

"An easy, paved two-mile accessible loop through pine-oak forest that’s rich in wildlife and history; origin stories for the name range from Civil War-era training anecdotes to a namesake in Gloucestershire. The route offers pleasant forest scenery, views toward Boston about 12 miles away, and passes freshwater ponds that provide refreshing summertime cooling spots." - Madeline Bilis Madeline Bilis Madeline Bilis is a writer, editor, and guidebook author based in New England. Breakheart Reservation in Wakefield is a beautiful spot for nature lovers! The trails are well-maintained and offer a nice mix of terrain, perfect for hiking, jogging, or a peaceful walk. The lake views are stunning and make for a great backdrop, especially when the weather is nice. It’s a fantastic place to unwind and enjoy the outdoors. Highly recommend for a scenic and refreshing escape close to the city!

Its beautiful here during the spring and summer. Such a great place for a walk in nature. I love that its so close for me to get out of the city and be in the woods. Definitely a peaceful place to clear your mind. Good walking area. I never realized how big Breakheart actually is until today when I ended up in places I've never even seen in there before. Considering I've been walking here for years.

Great hiking area where you can get a view of the Boston skyline from Breakheart Hill and lots of other views of lakes and ponds along the way. We hiked 5 miles of trails but there was still a lot more we could have done. There's a lot of elevation changes so you're going up and down quite a bit. With so many rocks on the trails, wearing boots would be very helpful.

Love the paved paths! Great for a nice stroll through the woods with small hills too. There are picnic tables and nice views overlooking the lakes. Excited to swim here as well!

Very nice place to go for a walk. Paved road with no cars. Plus many trails through the woods

Lots of parking available but on weekends during summer might be difficult to find spot due to the small beach access from this entrance.

Oooh this place is great!! Walked for nearly two hours (sort of lost) in the trails. Great place for long walks, swimming areas, awesome place. Meet some staff along the way (adorable people too; very polite) loved it~ definitely going back again~
