● Atmosphere The restaurant is very spacious and clean, and several staff members warmly welcomed us at the entrance. There are live seafood tanks inside, which gives a strong sense of freshness. It’s an open-air setup with no air conditioning, so it can feel quite hot around midday. That said, the location is right by the sea, and the ocean view is excellent. ● Food - Sinigang Solo: For a solo portion, the bowl was surprisingly large. It came with a good-sized piece of fish that was meaty and tasty. However, the broth was extremely salty—almost like salt water—so the signature sourness of sinigang didn’t really come through. - Grilled Scallops: Served a bit messily on the plate, which was disappointing. There was too much butter, which overwhelmed the natural flavor of the scallops. - Grilled Catfish: No muddy smell typical of freshwater fish, though the distinct catfish flavor was still there. The texture was pleasantly chewy and overall quite good. - Shrimp Garlic Butter: The garlic butter sauce wasn’t particularly impressive, but the shrimp themselves were decent. - Calamansi Juice: Very bold and intense. It tasted like freshly squeezed calamansi with little to no syrup added, making it extremely sour. If you’re expecting a sweet lemonade-style drink, this might disappoint you—but if you enjoy sharp, sour flavors like I do, you may actually like it.

However, one notable concern was the lechon, which was tougher than expected and lacked the tenderness typically associated with this dish. It was our first time to have dinner here with the family. We arrived very late, but the service staff were still very friendly. The seafood was delicious and the ingredients were very fresh. We all had a pleasant dinner.

Food was okay. Not out of this world, but not that bad either. Not the end-all be-all quintessential Iloilo restaurant to go to, but great location along the beach.

We went on an Iloilo City Tour for the day with inclusions of Miag-ao, Gimbal and Tigbauan Churches plus Garin Farm and was charged ₱4000 by our Grab driver, Jesse who we contracted from the airport upon arrival. For lunch, we stopped at Breakthrough, one of the well-known restaurants in Iloilo for seafood. We occupied a table with a seaview. The breeze and the sights lulled us into further internalizing how calming and soothing seaside dining could be. We were greeted by Jendie who guided us through the menu and took our orders. Unfortunately, Imbao and Diwali were not available. Food - 5*, we started with Baked Oysters (₱270) and Lato Salad (₱240). Followed these up with Calamari (₱350), Grilled Hito (₱220), Lengua with Olives (₱450), Kadyos, Baboy at Langka (₱475) and a platter of Steamed White Rice. For drinks, we had Ripe (₱145) and Green (₱145) Mango Shakes and Mountain Dew (₱60). First time for me to try the Ilonggo classic KBL. Kadyos is a type of black bean that goes so well together with initially grilled pork then immersed into soup with Langka plus Batwan as the souring agent. It is in the same family as Sinigang and Kansi, this time it has the black beans, langka and pork while Kansi normally has beef and sinigang could have pork or seafood as the meats. In general, all the dishes were freshly made and not just microwaved earlier prepared entrees. Service - 5*, fast, efficient and friendly Parking - 5*, plentiful Ambience - 5*, being beside a body of water definitely has its charm and this establishment is already an institution in Iloilo

Breakthrough is a great seafood restaurant situated along the beach. The restaurant is really spacious and offers a wide variety of seafood dishes. Both the baked oysters and steamed oysters were very good, and I'd easily recommend them. The Angel Clams are unique looking, but they taste quite good too (if you're into eating sea-shell food). I would say that all of the seafood options are great here, no matter how they are prepared. The ambience of the restaurant is also very nice, and it's perfect for big groups or families as it's very big in size. The seaside adds a nice touch to the restaurant, too. Breakthrough is recommended for sure. Especially if you love seafood!

Overall experience: Sometimes okay, sometimes not. Consistency of the usually good food has become a concern. Sometimes dishes come out fast, other times there’s a long wait. Soft drinks aren’t always served cold yet are charged full price. Used to be great, but lately something feels off. Service has also gotten sluggish. On the bright side, it still has that nice beach atmosphere — relaxing and scenic.

This place is called Breakthrough Restaurant ( @breakthroughiloilo ), because their seafood breaks through the ocean, into my bellayyy! I'll see myself out now! LOL The Breakthrough Restaurants, are a very long-running seafood institution, in the Iloilo City metro area, of the Philippines. My family had been going here, since I was a baby and, it's been tradition, to go at least once, whenever we visit! The seafood is always fresh and top notch, the service is so kind and helpful and.....you're views are literally oceanside! It's the best way, to enjoy a meal! Weekends are almost always full. They have fresh seafood and a lovely view. Service is a bit slow on the weekend but great on weekdays. Love their kinilaw and scallops. If they have sibingan (blue marlin) available, i always order coz it's sooo good. Prices have consistently gone up over the years but if you visit Iloilo, this is a non-negotiable.

Breakthrough is a big restaurant, weekends are full. We ate on a weekday. ‼Please remedy your RAT issue with professional pest control. There was a big rat that looked directly at me (I thought it was a black cat) and ran towards me and that wiped out my appetite. When I screamed, one of the waitstaff ran and covered a hole under the table where rats can come and go. I still cringe right now, day after that. I think about the cleanliness of food preparation. I do not want to go back there. But for the benefit of people going there, the place needs to do something. Thank you.

Omg! We got carried away here. We decided to take pops here for his big day and I think he had a blast. Long story short, we over did it, this! I was kind of embarrassed as people kind of noticed and watched our table while we were here. We only ate 1/3 of what we ordered and ended up with three groceries bags of left overs. The bill came and father-in-law laughed and giggled as he was surprised how much we didn't eat. It was fun. At this place, the system is, we order at the back where the kitchen is located, foods have been prepared as sample and are placed to view. So, you know exactly what you are going to eat. They are visually available to entice you and make your mouth water. They specialize in seafoods and authentic Filipino foods. It's a nice place and it's located on the beach. We sure did a breakthrough coming through here. We ate so much, we laughed so much too. What a treat this was. I recommend for all the visitors and kababayans. Totally worth dining here. My favorite is the adobong pusit (squid adobo) but everything we had were all delish! Don't miss this when you are in Iloilo. Please don't. It's a good memorable experience.

This is the place to go to if you want seafood. Lots of menu options in an outdoor restaurant (with roofing) while you enjoy the breeze and the views of the ocean (Iloilo Strait) We ordered crab, vanamei white shrimp, large prawns, crab fried rice, fish, oysters, and coconut water - pretty much anything and everything. It all tasted delicious. We also had some free range chicken. The texture was a bit tough, but it was good. My favorites were the shrimp (both white and large) and the crab rice. The oysters are large and are served at room temperature so I passed on them but the locals seemed to love them. We finished the meal off with the halo halo - they put it in a coconut and it was the perfect treat to end with. You can even enjoy the coconut skin. Bathrooms are clean, and they have plenty of sinks for you to wash your hands after eating. Place was crowded and lively - a must visit for all seafood lovers.

Really bad food: I didn't order crispy chicken or pork, but they both came out of the kitchen so dry and overcooked and flavourless as to both amaze me and stunt my growth. Not sure why they are still in business, but I guess it's a place to meet friends, show one's affluence, and pretend everything is fine ... when you likely know that somehow your asawa cooks much better. Ah, just stay away unless you like tasteless, dried out, hardly fresh meat and fish, with stale stringy gulay (veg) that is no better, and a small sour soup that is better suited to a concentration camp than any restaurant in the whole world. Prices much less than the equally bad Tatoy's, and about the same as Bulot B'atot (sp whatever). Horrid place not worth 1 star but '0' star not in the Yelp system. Unless this rates as food in your estimation, go to Roxas City along the seaside boulevard, and get properly-cooked wonderful fish, angel wings, squid, etc. And a nice 2.5 hour drive the scenic route.

Open air restaurant in Iloilo by the water. We came for dinner and was sat by the shore, unfortunately it was too dark to see anything as there were no lights by the water. The food proved to be good and some of the highlights were the live fish- managat, fresh prawns which were both grilled and the fried calamares. The aligue crab did not have much flavor though. Another must to order is the halo halo served in the coconut shell! Very good and not too sweet.

First time back to my homeland since moving to the states 25 years ago. While there have been a few filipino restaurants that had delicious food in the states... nothing beats going to Philippines for actual, authentic, filipino grub. My family reserved a dining room, which had AC (so freaking important in this country). We had 3 servers that catered to our party of 10... so the drinks were never empty, and the rice plate was always full. They actually have a counter with pre cooked food that you pick from, before sitting. They heat up and plate all this food and bring it to your table. My fam ate like kings. Dinuguan is my number one filipino dish over rice. The dinuguan here was pretty good... but I'm not sure how fairly I can rate it... because my dad's dinuguan is favorite... forever. My second favorite would have to be lechon. The lechon here was on point... which leads to my high rating. I do love buko shakes... but here they made them overly sweet. I couldn't finish any of mine. Location is right on the beach. But had to roll myself into the car after eating so much... had no time to explore the location.

Quite a disappointing experience here. First off, figuring out how to get seated and order is a task in itself. You're not greeted by anyone and no one explains where to go or how to order. After figuring it out, we stood at the counter, again without a greeting by anyone, a woman finally took our order. Her service was decent enough. Lots of things were unavailable unfortunately which made it a bit of a process to try and figure out what we wanted to eat. At our table the bus boy, who was probably the best part about this place, was quite attentive and accommodating especially when we needed to switch tables. Food was below average to average. The lechon was dry and the skin was not crisp. The other dishes were fine except everything took quite a while to get to us. We had to keep asking about certain things we ordered, however. The rice, for example, didn't come out until we asked them for it? They served most of the dishes except the rice which of course is what is really needed for the meal to begin. Got about 3/4 of the way through the meal and noticed our baked scallops had yet to be served. I asked our bus boy to check for us when a food expeditor came and told us they had run out of scallops... It wasn't until I had asked where the scallops were that they told us they weren't available. I of course was extremely unimpressed by this. Running out of things happens which is understandable, however, the fact that the customers were not informed until they had asked about the status of the food is extremely unacceptable. It was not even 2:30PM yet and the manager had already left for the day so I had to speak to about 3 different people. Apparently the reason we weren't informed was because the lady who took our order had radioed someone to tell us but it wasn't relayed to us because the person who said they would tell us went on break. This explanation was quite baffling. This is quite a large establishment with probably over a dozen servers and bus boys so if someone had gone on break why couldn't someone else relay a simple message to your paying customers? Maybe it's because I'm from abroad and used to a different level of service but after being in the county for about a month, this was probably the worst experience I've had in a restaurant. Overall, don't waste your time or money here. You're better off going to Tatoy's down the road. Much better food and service.

When I visit family in Iloilo, we head to Breakthrough. Their garlic rice is aromatic and heavenly, the aroma wafting from their kitchen, keeping their patrons in anticipated hunger. The simple grilled pork belly melts in your mouth and perfect for dipping in chili with kalamansi sauce. They offer pork, beef, chicken, different types of seafood such as clams, shrimps, prawns, soft shell crab, blue crab, christian crab, mud crab, milk fish, catfish, grouper, swordfish, snapper and many more that one can sashimi, grill, steam, fry, sautee with coconut cream, chili sauce or garlic butter. You have the option of going to their Villa Arevalo District restaurant and eat by the beach in the open air or go to the mall at Ponsyon in Diversion Rd. Either place is a winner!

Fresh tasting food and beautiful ambience! Despite the gloomy weather, eating outdoors was very pleasant! The food was phenomenal! We started with fresh coconut juice, deep fried baby crabs, and kinilaw nga tangegue which is kind of like a ceviche. For our mains we ordered... - Grilled Managat which was absolutely delicious! Very well seasoned and tasted fresh, as promised. There was no meat left on those bones I can promise you that! - Native Lechon Manok: Native chicken is always a winner in the Philippines and this one was no different. - Sinigang nga Baboy: super tender pork and perfectly sour broth! The service was great! We were greeted by each member of the staff as we arrived and seated promptly. Servers were friendly! This will be the first place I eat at the next time I visit Iloilo!

The view is fantastic. We got to sit right next to the beach with the wind blowing on us. Unfortunately 3/4 of what was on the menu was not available, they didn't have live fish, and the food attendant (food salesperson) would tell us one price for something, then when we weighed the item (crabs for example) they would put in a different price per kilo in the scale. When asked why, they would say, "oh, it's a bigger size, the price we gave you was for regular size", even though they are priced per kilo and we confirmed all of them in a particular tank was the same price. They told us 800 pesos per kilo (which is pretty expensive compared to Dampa Seaside in the middle of expensive Manila, but where you can negotiate down the price), but just raised the price to 900 per kilo when weighing them. It's small in the big picture, but the low integrity of the sales people leaves a bad taste in the mouth. So, after the meal, the sizzling oysters were ok, but the baked oysters were very disappointing - kind of kimchi flavored. We didnt finish that plate. The fish was ok, but very little meat. The calamari was very small and unfortunately not fresh (the kids still liked it because it was deep fried). The sizzling crab meat was not good. If you come, the one good tasting and fresh plate was the crab (yes, the ones they switched the price on us with). We paid extra for the lemon butter and it was a good choice. There was decent amount of meat from the body (even though one of our 4 claws from 2 crabs seemed to be missing), but it was good and my lady liked it, so that's good enough for me. The mango shakes were not good, double the price and way too much sugar. So based on food, 3 stars. Scenery is a 5. Getting cheated while ordering makes an overall a 2.

A special place for family gatherings, entertaining local visitors and balikbayans. This is no place to hold your diet! Offering a display case of fresh catches from the sea or punong as they call it ... You get to choose from a variety of fishes, crustaceans, local fruits such as mangoes with bagoong, alegue rice and their famous lechon with liver salsa. The servers will ask how you want it cooked - sugba (grilled), kilaw, steamed or sinabawan (sour, spicy or both). Not only do they serve seafood but also other meats, Noodles and Veges. The restaurant can accommodate events such as birthday parties, weddings and even corporate meetings in either fan rooms or with ac. I always make sure when I come home to visit, I'd eat a feast at Breakthrough. Very affordable yet the taste of their dishes is extremely good. The location is not that far from city proper, via private or public transport. Self-parking is available. Better to come an hour early for lunch or dinner to avoid the long que for service. This restaurant makes me proud to be ilonggo. Fresh ingredients kag namit mg luto!

This restaurant can be the pride and joy of Iloilo City. It serves the best fresh seafood that everyone can feast on. They also have a very accommodating staff. Sometimes though, specially weekends and special occasions, they are pack and as expected things can get messy.
