Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center

I cannot recommend Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center enough! We came up yesterday for my special needs triplets to do Adaptive Snowboard lessons and I was terrified. Each of my kids are medically complex and have Autism or Developmental delay, 25 weekers. When the kids walked out of the main room to go to the mountain, I cried, I have never taken them to do something like this and me not being right on top of them had me spinning out. I sat at Maggie's eagle eyeing the entire time, ready to jump in case of emergency or any signs of crisis. Thankfully I met another special needs family who calmed my nerves about it and kept me anchored to the ground. I finally couldn't take it anymore and went to check on them.... Every single one of my kids were grinning from ear to ear, even my high level autistic kiddo who rarely smiles was flashing happiness all over his face. The kids were just the most joyous little people, I almost didn't recognize them! They loved learning to snowboard and they talked about the staff all night long and how they can't wait to go again today. This has been rough, being a single mom and trying to navigate special needs children on my own while stepping waaaaay out of my comfort zone, and theirs to really. Even getting up here to the vacation rental was a nightmare with a gas leak, no heat the first night, blah blah blah. And the money!!?? OMG do not get me started on how much this all cost me, I'm up to my eyeballs in 'debt' to do this, might need to play the lottery for next time😂 but I don't regret it for one single second. Do go to BOEC, do take advantage of their adaptive program, do take the advice of staff when they tell you to go to Maggie's for coffee, and do make sure a lot of pictures are taken! Because it was WORTH it!!! God Bless them all!! (And do donate to their program of so inclined!)

I highly doubt they’ll ever receive less than 5 stars but I’ll help fortify just in case. If you’re allergic to having legendary fun then definitely don’t come here! They were great hosts for the ski spectacular event and I can’t wait until next year!

Last week my teenage son w/ intellectual disabilities and low gross and fine motor skills skied for the first time ever with the BOEC. We enrolled him for 3 days and by the last day he was riding the Quick Silver lift and confidently going down Silverthorne with his instructor and volunteer. I really cannot say enough good things about the BOEC and the instructors, Austin, Henry and Tyler, and the volunteers, Martin and Peter. My son gained so much confidence and just had so much fun hanging with them. He can't wait to go back next year. If you are looking for an adaptive skiing program for your child, look no further.

As a disabled individual, I was placed by their staff in a bi-ski (sit ski) and under the full control of the instructors and students/volunteers. I was a participant in their AWI program. I was injured. I was dropped off a ski lift when they forgot to pull the pin out of my sit ski during loading onto the lift, causing my instructor and student she was teaching, to drop me into the pit off the ski lift, while the ski lift was still moving. I had to be rushed to the emergency room for treatment of my injuries. During another AWI program, my ski instructor fell getting off the lift and pulled my sit ski down, face first, where my head hit ice, and I also had to receive care in the emergency room. I have also been a participant in other adaptive ski programs in Colorado, where I have never been injured, and the care I have received in the other organizations has been amazing compared to the care I received in the BOEC programs. I would highly recommend ALL of the other adaptive ski programs, and not the BOEC. This review was based on my personal

If I could give them 10 Stars I would. What an amazing group of people! I had a wonderful time camping, rock climbing, rafting and more. They were very encouraging. I have an extremely complicated diet and they did a wonderful job catering to my diet. The food they cooked was amazing. The best camping food I have ever had. Can't say enough about this wonderful group. So grateful for the experience.

Best skiing experience for my autistic son. Have done a program in Snowmass/Aspen and Vail in the past, but Breck BOEC is hands down the best at what they do. Very caring and kind people. Highly recommend them.

Fantastic, warm people provided a successful, fun skiing experience for my sons. We plan on using this service the next time we are in Keystone or Breckenridge. I cannot recommend them highly enough! My children loved it.

If I could give this place 100 stars I would. I was pretty nervous to have my son ski as he has a lot of balance and cognitive delays, but they made this experience an unbelievable one. There was one instructor and one volunteer with my son during every lesson. He had about 5 lessons this past season with 3 different instructors and they were all amazing. My son loves music and everyone of them either had music playing the whole time or would sing as they went down the hill. I'm excited to say that near the end of the season he was able to go on his own for awhile. Thank you again to everyone that works with this program. We will definitely be back next season as well as we will check out some of your summer programs.

I can not say enough about this awesome program. My husband is visually impaired and skied three days with this amazing group of ski guides and volunteers. They are absolutely wonderful. They took care of everything, provided an exceptional experience and really love what they do. We highly recommend them and encourage everyone to support this awesome program.

Just because you have a disability, don't let it hold you from participating in outdoor recreational activities such as skiing, snowboarding, whitewater rafting, etc. The BOEC specializes in helping those with disabilities experience the same kind of fun as any other person--the instructors are highly trained to work with people of all abilities. I've used their adaptive ski school to try both skiing and snowboarding, and I was able to ski and board almost as well as a sighted beginner even with my vision impairment. Jeff was my ski instructor, and Wendy was my snowboard instructor. Everyone is understanding, courteous, motivational, and skilled. The fees include one-on-one (sometimes even two-on-one) instruction, a lift ticket, and equipment rental. There is financial aid available for those who qualify. I love, love, love the mission behind this organization and have them to thank for such a good time at Breckenridge and Keystone.
