21 Best Things to Do in The Bahamas

"The Bahamas has no shortage of incredible diving and snorkeling spots, but Ocean Atlas, the world’s largest underwater statue, is one of its most unique. Crafted by British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, Ocean Atlas is located off the western coast of New Providence (the same island where Nassau, the capital, is located). It’s only 16 feet submerged, so snorkelers and divers alike can enjoy swimming around this piece of art; the statue depicts a young girl carrying the weight of the ocean above her as a nod to the Greek myth of Atlas, who was condemned to hold up the heavens for eternity." - Travel + Leisure Editors

39 New Places in the Second-Edition Atlas Obscura Book

"Artist, photographer, naturalist, and diver Jason deCaires Taylor introduced his record-breaking public sculpture to the crystal Bahamian waters in 2014. Entitled Ocean Atlas, the installation encourages coral colonization and deters tourists from endangered reefs. Forged from sustainable, pH-neutral materials designed to kickstart local coral growth, Ocean Atlas is a monumental public sculpture submerged five meters beneath the sea, and an environmental gesture intended to portray the positive potential of human interaction with the natural world. Located off the west coast of New Providence in Nassau, Ocean Atlas is Taylor’s contemporary take on the ancient Greek myth of Atlas—a Titan condemned to carry the heavens on his back for eternity. Rather, Ocean Atlas, commissioned by BREEF (Bahamas Reef Environment Educational Foundation), is a young Bahamian girl “sustaining the ceiling of the ocean,” Taylor’s website explains, as “our oceans and coral reefs currently [face] collapse from numerous threats including overfishing, habitat loss, ocean acidification, global warming and water pollution…” Taylor founded the world’s first underwater sculpture park in Grenada’s Molinere Bay in 2006. The project, entitled Viccisitudes, was inaugurated with 16 statues of local Grenadian women. The installation is now comprised of 75 sculptures—each depicting a real person—sprawling over 800 square meters. Taylor has since designed two more submerged museums: MUSA (Museo Subacuático de Arte) in Cancun, billed on his website as “one of the largest and most ambitious underwater artificial art attractions in the world,” with over 500 permanent sculptures forged to scale; and Museo Atlántico, the first submerged contemporary art museum in the Atlantic Ocean, based off the coast of Lanzarote, Spain." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Short swim from shore for moderate swimmers. Bring your own gear or rent. Admission to main park is included in snorkle fees. They provide personal personal float devices, which nice. There's lots to see in a unique swim out setting..

Shallow snorkel spot right off the beach. 2 moring balls available suitable for center consols and smaller boats. There are a lot of small fish and a few coral nurseries. Statues are a great attraction!! The largest statue is at the western most moring ball, becareful as this statue is large and close to service of the water(5ft) Suitable for anchoring in the sand for small boats. Deep enough for e-foils, just a few coral heads and statues to be aware of.

The whole experience is simply amazing! We arrived early to Clifton National Park and bought the package for Snorkling. They teach you how to use the equipment, and once you’re on the water, they are always aware of where you are and that you don’t get far from the group. I strongly recommend to go there!

We visited this as part of a snorkelling trip. The sculptures were fantastic and the calm sea in the cove made the snorkelling easy, even for novices. I’d highly recommend going to see this and the other hidden gems in the area.
