Super cute store we wandered into while walking by! I was drawn by the outside decorations and wanted to go inside. I liked all the little items but I didn’t need anything so I held back from purchasing. But I wanted to leave a review cause it was all so cute and the owner was friendly.

Really friendly and helpful staff, lots of nice items in the store and they did an amazing job wrapping up a beautiful vase for me!

I can't say enough great things about the quality of products and the incredible customer service at Brentwood General Store! I needed to purchase some welcome gifts for colleagues visting the Santa Monica area, and Melissa the General Manager and her team exceeded my expectations! Hailey and Sophia were wonderful to collaborate with on what items to choose for the gifts and made sure the gifts were delivered on time. I am really looking forward to working with them in the future!

The staff is friendly and they have some interesting items. My complaint is that they charged me $40 to gift-wrap a box. This is excessive. They took advantage of the fact that my gift was time-sensitive so I didn't have time to find somewhere else to do the gift-wrapping. What's worse is that they initially quoted me $15 for gift-wrapping then ripped me off with the overcharge the next day. The actual gift-wrapping service was fine but certainly nothing special.

I love little shops like these. We have plenty of them in Orange County, but my girlfriend also love these stores too, duuh? lol. We stopped here to look at some Mothers Day gift ideas for my mom, since we happen to be in the area. I purchased her a small little box to put certain jewelry of her favorites inside. We also purchased a Mothers Day gift for my Girlfriends mom too. So Brentwood General Store made it easy for us to think of gift ideas. My first time here. Love the store, and the products here. Promise to come visit here again.

This is a cute little shop on a corner of Montana Avenue. It has a small town vibe which I absolutely love. The outside of the shop had a beautiful bed of flowers and a gorgeous window display decorated for the Fourth of July holiday. Such cute decorations to display in your own home! The inside of the store was surprisingly smaller than expected but that added to its charm. I just came here to browse this time but I did find some nice items that would make great gifts!

I placed an order online on April 21, 2025. After about three weeks, I contacted the company regarding not received the item and they said it was on backorder and they would get back to me as soon as possible. Another three weeks passed no follow up contacted them. They said it was still on backorder and they were apologetic and the owner would call me. She never did. It's now been almost 2 months. Still never received. My items. Just called them to cancel my order the gentleman did not give me his name however, was very unapologetic just asked for the order number and said OK. I guess I'll cancel it for you. Just a very poor customer service experience overall why are you allowing customers to place an order if you don't have the item in stock in addition to that, why are you not following up with your customers? My order was almost $500 and I was treated like my order was $15. I wanted to support this company due to being a small business however, I would definitely steer clear of them.

The last gift shop on Montana Avenue stocked with so many choices, you can't help yourself. I did a refresh of my dining table with these very beautiful, affordable wicker placements (thick and sturdy), plus swapped the dead geranium out front with this lovely succulent--always ready for her closeup. ‍ Melissa is so cool and helpful whatever your budget allows--south or north of Montana--if you know what I mean.

My girlfriend just got home from shopping for baby gifts and a birthday gift for my mother. I have never seen her so impressed with a customer service experience in my life, to be frank, I'm extremely impressed as well. The manager sat with my partner for at least an hour and helped with very sensitive gifts. She was caring and heard her when she explained why the sizes for my family were as important as they are. This might not make sense to many reading it, but it doesn't need to. Just know that when you go to this store, you will be treated with respect, kindness, and graced with all of their attention and care. Thank you! Ps beautiful gift wrapping!

What an amazing store! I called the other day and was in desperate need of help with some "thank you" baskets. The owner, Melissa, couldn't have been more helpful. She emailed me over some options and by the end of the day they had 10 baskets put together and ready for delivery. 10/10 service.

This is a cute store and I thought I would get a couple things for the holidays, but sadly I had to deal with an old gentleman I believe he is the owner. He was very rude and condescending towards me the whole time I was there. I haven't ever felt that uncomfortable in a store before! If he is going to deal with people regularly he needs to act accordingly. I will never again step foot in there!

Went in real quick to buy a nice pot , but was greeted with a major attitude by the old gentleman there. I'm assuming that is the owner. The rudeness was on full display right when I entered. I kindly left and told him I will never be back after that display. At one point I felt like he wanted to fight me because I said he shouldn't talk to customers that way. Please don't be fooled by who this man really is. I have told all my local friends to stop shopping there.

Truly one of my favorite stores! And the absolute best store for gifts! Just ran in to grab a few gifts and both the woman working the front desk and the manager spent 45 plus minutes helping me get the perfect gift! Melissa (I believe the owner) spent time helping me try on jackets to make sure I found the right size for a sensitive gift for someone. She listened and made sure to take her time so I would be happy. She also helped me pick out baby gifts that were the right age! Both women were beyond helpful and sweet and the gift wrapping was perfect (not to mention included!) My go-to store for sure! Also all the AMAZING barefoot dreams items - how could I not love it?!

I love going to this store for small lovely gifts. Their candle selection is very nice and the small gifts for all types of people are so sweet. The ladies that work their are always super nice and they have nice wrapping skills for gifts

Chic general store in Santa Monica. The staff was very attentive and they have various goods despite their compact store size. I would love to come back here to get some dining room items.

I had some errands to run on Montana yesterday and needed to buy a house warming present. This place popped up on a google search for gift shops, and since I make a point to buy local when possible, I decided to check it out. When I entered, I was the only customer. The people behind the counter were having a discussion about one of them who is apparently a good gift wrapper. They couldn't be bothered to ask how they could help, so after a few minutes, I decided that Williams Sonoma up the street could have my money instead. I understand that this could come off like I am being one of "those people". And maybe I am. But I also don't care. If the shop would have been busy, I would have not thought a thing about the lack of greeting and would have asked for assistance if needed. However, it was not busy. You would think think that in the face of the ease and price comparison ability that the Internet offers that little shops like this would want to shine in their customer service. It's the one thing that can really make them stand out. Clearly the Brentwood General Store doesn't subscribe to this theory.

This is a super cute, thoughtfully stocked store. I've bought several gifts here, for myself and for others. One thing they sell are these cute gold beaded bracelets. DONT GET THEM. I bought a few for me and my mom, one broke within a few weeks. I brought it back, and instead of doing the logical thing and just giving me a new one, they said they would get it restrung and it would be ready in ten days. Two weeks later, I call and check in. I'm mistakenly call a few minutes after closing. A man answers, and says (after I tell my whole story), please call back tomorrow, we are closed. Why are you answering?? I call back a few more days later. I am told they have to go somewhere and pick it up. They assured me they will call me. Several days after that, an associate calls me and asks if I have very small wrists or if I was getting the bracelet restrung for a "toddler?" Um no. So then they explain it's been an error and they will send the bracelet back out to get restrung. We are over three weeks at this point. The associate is apologetic, assured me it will be ready in three days and they'll call me. Here we are about another week later. No call. Just called them again and "the owners are out of town" and they'll be back in six days so try again. I ask, why can't I just get a replacement. She has no idea. Avoid. Customer service is a hot mess.

Glad to hear that management is so receptive to criticism. Maybe I should clarify that my friends and I were the only people of color in the store? And much younger than the other customers? Protect your merchandise but maybe try not to insult your customers so clearly in person and now online. Not the best look. And where else does management recommend we voice our opinions about businesses? I don't really care if you're insulted by my opinions, the fact is that we did not feel welcome in your store. Perhaps if you understood the gravity of such discrimination you would talk to your employees about this, rather than swearing up and down that they are not capable of it. Won't be returning and i'm happy to spread the word. Lady working behind the counter CLEARLY thought my friends and I were trying to steal. She left from behind the register to watch us, carefully eyeing us the entire time. At least try and be subtle about your agist/racial judgements. Nothing worth buying (OR STEALING) from this overstore anyways.

--------UPDATE-------- Management contacted me after posting this review and offered to make it up to us by offering to wrap our next basket for us free of charge. They were so accommodating this time and really went above and beyond. I am very thankful that Yelp could have helped mend this business partnership. Heidi was overwhelmingly nice and kind, and when I went to pick up my basket, I met with the owner, Jeff. They were extremely helpful. Heidi actually brought the basket to my car for me! Complete night and day from my first experience. Everyone has off days, I am happy to see that my first experience is not the standard here. By the way, THE BASKET LOOKS SO GREAT!!! Love love love it! Thank you guys for making things right! --------- The lady was rude to me and over looked me. She attempted to help me but ignored EVERYTHING I was saying because she was too busy eyeing another customer that just walked in. Even tho I had waited patiently in line for assistance. In fact, she actually stopped mid sentence and started assisting that other customer. When I interrupted, she stared at me like I was the rude one and mentioned she received all the information she needed and that I can go. I hadn't showed her the items I wanted wrapped for a raffle or the arrangement I was looking for with the basket. She told me to leave my items in the showroom, for anyone to snag or take.... not cool.

With the whole COVID scare i couldn't decide what to get my mom for a late Mother's Day Gift. I happened to be in the Santa Monica area when I passed by Brentwood General Store and peeked my head in. The place is full of cute household items that I thought any mom would love. I ended up getting her a lemon bowl (reasonably priced) and it turned out to be a successful Mother's Day! I started speaking to who I believe is a part owner and followed the company's instagram account (@BrentwoodGeneralStore). I was originally drawn in by their curated page but now i am up to date on any sales going on! Staff is lovely, store is clean & cute and both me and my mother will be repeat customers here.

Very unusual COVID rules. I have shopped here off and on for years and was going to pick out a gift for a friend. I have always liked the gifty items, though the price point is a bit high, but to be expected on Montana. Today I was going to pop in with my friend, I tied my dog up and started to walk in, the sign says "One customer allowed". Very unusual considering it's not "that" tiny of a store so we walked away. Then the woman said we both could come in as long as we hadn't traveled on a plane for 14 days. Well I haven't, but I did six weeks ago where there were 17 people on the entire plane. Hmmm, maybe they should have a list of questions...Been on a bus? Shopped at a crowded grocery store, been to a party? Can't say I've done those things, other than going to a not spacious Trader Joes. Left a bad taste and we left sans purchase.

My best girlfriend was visiting Santa Monica from out of town and I had to get a couple hours of work done. So, she asked about fun walkable places to shop. I sent her down Montana. Every store on the street greeted her warmly except Brentwood General where she wasn't greeted at all. She found a couple cute items and purchased them, but was met with an attitude when politely asking about the price of an item that was hanging on a high shelf. I'm proud of my friendly city and it's a shame my friend wasn't treated well in Brentwood General.

Good spot for gifts and any gift wrapping needs. Took a present in to be wrapped at the request of my boss and got it done for free, thanks to Brentwood General's promo on Yelp (check in for one free gift wrapping). I had no issues, customer service was satisfactory and friendly from the one lovely lady assisting me.

Check out the Brentwood general store. They have some cool products. In addition the staff were really helpful to me. Parked right in front on a meter that almost ate my credit card as my card almost slid through the meter. The staff lent me some tools to get my card out. Thank you.

The owners are sooo nice! And they have all kinds of little delicate stuffs. Their gift wrap reminds me of Christmas

One of my favorite spots in LA. Expertly curated with the most helpful and accommodating staff. A shining beacon of family run businesses in Los Angeles and a place I will always return to for gifts, home decor, and more.

I needed gift baskets to ask my bridesmaids to be in my bridal party. I called and spoke to the owner, Melissa and she was so creative and suggested so many different ideas. My bridesmaids were thrilled with all the goodies they got. This store has the cutest stuff and the owners are so helpful and welcoming! Can't wait to go back!

1. Are you honestly trying to say that you can't tell the difference between someone who's wealthy and someone who isn't? I find that very hard to believe 2. I'm not doing the same thing as your employee because I'm not targeting that person/discriminating against that person? That comparison was a stretch 3. This happened Saturday morning around 11. The employee was an older white woman 4. I find it interesting that your first instinct is to decide that we must be lying about the entire situation. Why are the claims made by people of color inherently less believable? 5. The anti semitism comment was so ridiculous. My friends and I have never met you. We never would have known you were Jewish if you hadn't brought it up as an attempt to further invalidate what we were saying. We simply expressed that we felt unwelcome based on the events that occurred This review was posted out of frustration. We're sick of feeling this way and think other people of color should know which places to avoid. If this information was surprising to you, a simple "I'm sorry you felt that way and I'll investigate this further" would have sufficed. But your response was pretty unprofessional and I hope you reevaluate if a claim like this comes up in the future. I just want to say that your response to the complaints about the obvious racial bias from your employees is unacceptable. I was actually with Dani in the store that day. An obviously wealthy white woman was in the store when we arrived. It wasn't until my racially diverse group of friends walked in that the employee left from behind the counter and watched us carefully. I don't know if you've ever been followed in a store but it's extremely insulting and unwelcoming. Definitely won't be stopping by here again.

Went into the the store yesterday and was interested in a bracelet that was listed for $105. Went back today to purchase it and the cashier told me it was over $200 with tax. I then noted bracelet was $105 and showed her the price tab which noted $105. She then told me bracelet was mislabeled and should be $185. Lots of beautiful things in the store but they should honor the price listed.

One my best friends is seriously obsessed with the Country Mart. This all started when she had to put together (from scratch) about fifty holiday gift baskets for our firm. She was at the Country Mart pretty much every day picking up gifts. The Brentwood General Store ended up being her number-one stop for special, fun, one-of-a-kind gifts. Moreover, the staff is AMAZINGLY HELPFUL. I finally went with her on her last day of gift-buying to help carry everything. Everyone was happy to see her, had her things ready, and helped us as we ran around trying to get the gift basket fixing straight while also picking out an additional holiday gift for one of our co-workers. We went back today to get the same co-worker a birthday gift. Despite only being there once previously, everyone gave me the big hello. They had a HUGE supply of Barefoot Contessa bake mixes (which I am completely obsessed with), and lots of delicious jams and sauces to go with. The Store stocks all manner of accessories, from totes to coin purses, to ribbon watches. They have a cute section just for baby apparel (the Chums onesies are stand-outs). They have all sorts of smelly stuff, perfume, soap, candles, draw liners, sachets. They do excellent gift wrap. They have candies around to snack on. What else do you want from a store? They also make sure to point at extra-special things, from the one-of-a-kind Pucci-esque purses for 300, to the new cashmere scarves for 38. Excellent, excellent.

This store is one of my absolute favorites. Kind of dangerous since I worked right around the corner because I ended up finding way too many things I wanted here. Seda France candles Barefoot Contessa's baking mixes and lots and lots of other cute things.

Cutest little gift store ever!!! Just bought a set of beautiful candle holders for my place for a great price! Melissa, one of the managers there, was helping me and was super nice and friendly. Great store for home decor or just cute little personalized gifts.

Loved this store when it was in the Brentwood Countrymart and love it still on Montana. Nice variety of items, varied price range, and the best customer service! The owner allowed me to take home two different sized linen tablecloths to make sure I would make the best purchase for my dining room table. I paid for the one I wanted and returned the unwanted one the next day. It's customer service like this that has kept me coming back for beautiful household items and gifts over the years.

One of THE BEST stores not just for holiday shopping but for any occasion. The owners and people who work there will help you pick out an item in ANY budget and they wrap beautifully. Honest, good people with impeccable service.

Has a great variety of gifts available; great candles, lotions, etc. The staff took a lot of time to help me find something for my wife. I'll definitely be coming back.

This is the most amazing store at the Country Mart. They need a revolving door . Everyone who goes to the "Mart" goes to Brentwood General Store. You have to buy something everytime you go there. They have something for everyone. The jewelry is fastastic, REAL and affordable. They have Candles, Robes, P'J's, Dishes, Kids Stuff, Purses, Mens Suff, baby gifts... EVERYTHING! The help is great .It's like a real neighborhood store. They have the best Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations, and Christmas last year was better than the North Pole. We have so much fun when we go shopping! They do the best party favors in town. Highly addictive.

This is a true general store. I was able to find a gift for everyone on my list and best of all they gift wrap beautifully. Everyone who works there is super nice and helpful. I was so happy I walked into this shop yesterday at the Montana Holiday Walk. A real gem.

My favorite store on Montana!!! They have the cutest things! ...some things can be a bit pricey, but are great quality and totally worth it. The staff and owners are also incredibly nice and helpful. They've helped me successfully pick out bday and holiday presents on more than one occasion!! LOVE THIS PLACE!

Nice gift items but don't expect them to actually give you any service - like completing your transaction. I guess the owners don't want their staff to sell anything - guess they just want them to socialize with their friends. My husband and I've tried to shop there on numerous occasions but have now given up. Too bad.
