Stayed one night in a suite room. Based on the very high online ratings, we expected a high-quality stay and attentive service. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. We arrived around 6:00 p.m. when it was already dark. Upon entering the lobby, we saw a group of people dining, but no one acknowledged or welcomed us. After waiting for a while, I had to ask how to check in. A staff member came from the dining area to assist and informed us of a 5% gratuity charge for food service. The check-in staff member later appeared and helped with luggage only after we requested assistance. We were given two bento boxes, but no one helped deliver them to our room. The food was cold, and there was no assistance with drinks—everything had to be handled by ourselves. Breakfast the next morning was better in terms of food quality. Someone helped us place our order, but we still needed to refill drinks on our own. At checkout, we received only a brief “thank you,” with no further interaction. Overall, we did not feel welcomed during our stay. The room and the property itself were cozy and warm, but the service needs significant improvement. Given the price, the stay felt heavily overcharged for the level of service provided.

Also, on this visit the food was not as good and there were some other issues. This place was not the same. ||I emailed Isabel (guest service manager) with detailed list of concerns and why the stay was not worth the price. Isabel sent a detailed response that seemed appropriate and areas they will be working on to bring the BGI back to a higher standard. I appreciated her sincere response. I hope this happens as this has always been such a special place to stay. I will give the BGI second chance down the road.

We’re 83, and that may shape our perspective. Our room was up three flights of stairs with no elevator—challenging for older guests. I’d requested an ocean view to bring my wife to her happy place, but the windows were small and didn’t offer much Ocean. The room was clean, but very small, with a single sink, low-profile toilet, and a step-in tub/shower with no grab bars—safety concerns for any age. There were no drawers, minimal furniture, and poor lighting. A wireless phone charger was a nice touch.|The grounds have potential but were difficult to walk, with uneven terrain and no handrails at the spa entrance. The front entry had embedded stones, making rolling luggage tough. Thankfully, the receptionist kindly carried our bags upstairs—staff were consistently helpful and kind. Breakfast was good, especially the fresh-squeezed orange juice. The server, Victor excelled. Dinner served in a box with no menu options. A small deck with free wine and fresh air was pleasant, if lacking shade.|We enjoyed watching Acorn Woodpeckers and appreciated the games and DVDs. On our third night, we were moved to a nicer room on the main floor with a better bathroom. I opened the unscreened windows. Nothing crawled in. The small candles for nighttime ambiance were lovely.|Overall, the staff were the highlight, but the facility didn’t match the price point. We likely won’t return, but I’m not angry—just sharing our experience in hopes it helps the team improve.

Wildly overpriced and overrated. I am honestly shocked by the number of 4 and 5 star reviews and accolades for this property. Perhaps it was once great but no more. ||Room was outdated and in disrepair. Fireplace thermostat fell off repeatedly, and the fireplace itself was off-gassing. Walls are paper thin and you can hear everything in the rooms around and above you. Bed and pillows were cheap and uncomfortable. No fridge in room to keep water or beverages cold. ||Service and staff attitude was indifferent at best. Ran out of coffee on our second morning with no cups available (“they are being washed”) at 915AM. Included breakfast was OK. The much advertised evening appetizer and wine hour was well below expectations. ||We did enjoy an excellent massage. ||We will not be coming back.

Such a relaxing stay! The room (Lookout) was spacious and offered a wonderful view of the coast. The bed was comfortable and we left the windows open to enjoy the sounds! The included breakfast and dinner was a plus as well. We'll definitely stay again.

We chose Brewery Gulch for our honeymoon. Fantastic location. The evening hosted light meal and wine offering sets the visit apart. Our room was so comfortable. Quiet time on the deck to snack, chat, and look at the ocean view. Staff were very attentive. What a wonderful inn.

Whilst it took around 10 minutes to acclimatise, you will quickly fall in love with this place. Almost like a mini-retreat crossed with staying in a family home. Well appointed rooms, friendly staff, excellent ‘light meal’ box provided each evening to dine in your room or on the terrace/communal dining area with tasty food and complimentary wines. Breakfast equally good and worth waking up for with free tea/coffee and soft drinks on tap all the time. There is a great local supermarket 5 mins away by car which you can use to purchase any supplementary snacks & treats. Well located in Mendocino and not far away from Fort Bragg . One of the nicest stays we had on our 3 week road trip.

Do not stay here. We paid $620 for a grungy room in a weird inn. I feel like we were suckered in by the reviews which must have been heavily edited as the hotel was no where near a five star rating. The rooms all were havens for dust mites and who knows what else with dingy brown shag carpeting, oily stains where other guests had rest their heads on the bed’s head boards, hodgepodge furniture and sticky surfaces. Yuck. Just no. Look at photos below. You will be so disappointed if you stay here.

Heaven place. Usually, hotels are for rest, and we make sure it's clean and safe. But this place will completely change your concept of the vision of hotels. As I walked in, I met a beautiful and kind person with an honest smile on her face. She introduced herself as Issabel. She made you feel at home, and now it's time to rest. This hotel is so beautiful that you don't want to leave this place. Isabel showed us around and genuinely took care of us. We were so lucky to find this place. Dinner was served around 5:30, and the chef made fresh food for us. Breakfast is included, and it's delicious and presented beautifully. Isabel stayed completely involved with us. Usually, we drop bags and want to go outside, but leaving this place was hard. Thank God we were on the first floor with the ocean view. This place is a must-visit in Mendocino. You must go and share your thoughts with your family and friends. Thanks, Isabel. We miss you and can't wait to go back and see you.

What I loved: -Very friendly and helpful staff -Good quality breakfast - loved the peach strawberry lassi. You can opt to have dinner prepped and boxed for you too. Great food service. -Pine Room had the best view, you'll see the most birds coming to the bird feeders What was different: -Extensive DVD collection and games to choose from -Since cell phones aren't reliable here and front staff leaves at a certain hour, you have to call for help using a land line. -Wine hour at 5pm daily. -Two person soak tub and shower with great pressure -No AC, but opening the windows allows for a cool breeze. -Note that "food service gratuity" is added to room charges when you check out. We were charged $47.47 for 2 nights. What I wasn't a fan of: -Very thin ceilings and walls, you will hear everything in the lobby and other rooms and it will keep you up. -Cell phone reception is spotty to non-existent.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 Hubby and I came here for a quick babymoon since I'm a high risk pregnancy unable to fly. I had researched best baby moons in California and this came up. We spent 2 days & nights here and added the babymoon package. It included massages for us both, 2 $15 gift certificates for a pizza/ice cream parlor & toy store just 5 minutes away, a baby book, & belly bar. We were also welcomed with a toffee bar, bottle of sparkling cider, & a couple beers for him. Room was ready and clean upon arrival. Bed was a little too plush for hubby's liking being 6ft & nearly 300lbs just sinking in it. Massages were good; I fell asleep during mine. Our stay included breakfast and a wine & light dinner service. I couldn't indulge in wine, but there was water, sparkling water, coffee, hot chocolate, and tea available. The dinner offering was underwhelming. We ended up going to dinner in town both nights, not because of portion, but rather the quality/ flavor of the food. However, breakfast was always fresh and amazing. The hashbrowns were crispy and flavorful. They also had light pastry snack available with the teas & coffees. We enjoyed those over the dinner selection. All in all, we had a good stay. Staff is so friendly. Quiet and peaceful with the exception we were on the first floor and could hear the staff in the lobby/ hallway in the morning as well as the patrons upstairs with extra curricular activities. I wouldn't have cared any other time, but at 7 months pregnant, I was just trying to get my sleep before I can't anymore. Not sure if it was worth the price point. We could have stayed a little closer to SF, Napa or Carmel. The drive up along the 101 & 128 left me nauseous. My husband who can drive in SF hill & LA traffic no problem had to slow down for all the curves. Bring ginger chews for the windy roads and let all the angry locals over take you on the drive up. It was an overall good experience, but I guess I had been hyped up from all the reviews. I'm also comparing it to trips I've taken around California and overseas for similar price points

We came back to celebrate our anniversary and it was such a disappointment this time around. We have recommended this spot to so many people and we were very excited to come back but it was not the same. The food was mediocre at best, most nights it seemed like a frozen Trader Joe's meal. Our bed was very uncomfortable, seemed like it had been broken previously and not replaced. We had a noise issue but Isabel took care of it and was wonderful. Besides Isabel the staff was just ok. For the price it is not worth it and I am sad to say I don't think we will be going back.

This is a lovely place to stay if you are looking for a secluded and scenic place to unwind. It is across the highway from the ocean, so there are some ocean views. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. They serve several different options for breakfast, and the breakfast is quite filling. Our stay also included light dinners. Every dinner we had at the inn was delicious, and the portions were perfect for a light meal. The staff was gracious and helpful, especially Victor. You can expect to hear other guests through the walls. When we stayed, not all of the rooms were full, so this was not too much of an issue.

For years I envisioned my self visiting this property. It was Andre Leon Talley who during an interview in a famous magazine said this property was he's favorite place to visit and get away from it all. I thought, if it's good enough for him, it's good for me, too. In fact, true story, because he was a famous, rich fashion critic I thought I'd never be able to afford visiting this place. Fast forward; a couple of days ago, I called in and as a courtesy a nice woman place my room on a courtesy hold for 24 hours. I had to consult with my spouse about dates. I called back the next day, wanting to take care of my held room and pay, no one answered the phones and I left a voice mail message. No one called me back. I called the following morning, Sarah answered the phone. I don't know why some people don't understand that some of us can tell when you're being rude, short, crude, disrespectful and plain out mean by phone just by the tone of your voice. Do you care? I mean, maybe you should? It's unfortunate, for this property and me because thanks to Sarah I am not coming here. Yes- my review is based on a simple phone conversation that lasted three minutes if that. No I am not staying here. I asked Sarah; "do you talk to everyone with this tone of voice and attitude? You are being rude and sound so mean. I am not dealing with this." She replied: "okay- so- how can I help? Again....mean and rude! I hung up. I planned for years to visit Mendocino, California. I had dreams of visiting this property. But ladies and gentlemen I'd been damned if I'm going to spend my hard earned money at a place where an employee talks to people like Sarah talked to me, today. Hell no! Luckily, I found a lovely place with lovely employees also in Mendocino, California. I'm still coming to the town but thank God I won't be meeting Sarah in person, ever. We stayed at Brewery Gulch Inn in May with our family and had a lovely experience overall. The food was truly exceptional--delicious, fresh, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The only downside for us was that the walls are quite thin, so we could hear conversations and movement from downstairs. Also, we were surprised to find there were no high chairs available for young children. This made mealtimes a bit tricky, as we had to take turns walking around with our little one instead of enjoying breakfast together. Still, the overall atmosphere and hospitality were great .

This b & b has gone down hill Over the last three years stayed several times and loved it. Our recent stay last week was VERY disappointing. Food uninspired and mediocre. Atmosphere disorganized not what we have been accustomed to. Downgraded amenities. Not worth the money and will NOT be back!!!

I decided to treat my wife to a babymoon but wanted something different than the island getaway. The Brewery Gulch Inn was highly reccom3nded online so we decided to give it a try. I booked 4 nights, one night was Valentines Day, with an additional babymoon package. The experience at the Inn was absolutely perfect. We had breakfast everyday, made to order and it was absolutely delicious. Everyday trying something new. Wine hour starting at 530pm was a pleasant surprise prior to us going to dinner. They even had a non alcoholic wine that was delicious for my pregnant wife. There was amazing views, easy access to Russian Gulch and Port Cabrillo Lighthouse hikes. Mendicino was 5 minutes away and Ft. Bragg was only 15 minutes. But honestly, we could stay in the Inn each day and enjoy ourselves watch a movie (provided) or playing board games (also probided) we enjoyed the cheese board and spa treatment which were part of the babymoon package so much. Honestly, this was a perfect getaway from our crazy busy lives. If you have the chance, book it. It's worth it.

Amazing place, great staff and amazing all inclusive food and drinks, wonderful massage therapists and great location to downtown Mendocino and Fort Bragg.

This is the ONLY place to choose when you are staying in Mendocino. Yes there are many options but this is the whole package and then some! Been going for probably 18+ years and have stayed probably as many times if not more. There is new ownership (still miss Guy & Sara) but GM Sarah and all the crew including Iza, Josh and all of them make us feel like family spoil and take care of us. Worth every penny. When people look at prices and say how expensive places are we'll look at everything you get. Amazing room. Wonderful staff. Full breakfasts. Wine and beer and apps hour. (Side note: book their 5 day vacay avail November-May each year). Can't wait for our next visit.

My husband and I took our first trip to Mendocino for our 30th anniversary. I couldn't decide where to stay, so I decided to stay at two different locations. The first one, although nice, they catered to guest with pets . I neglected to notice.. we spent two nights at that resort in which my husband became very ill due to he's allergic to animals and has asthma. The other two nights we spent at The Brewery Gulch Inn. It was exceptional. The staff were amazing, the food was excellent and completely pet free. This location is very clean and the attention to detail was above our expectations. If you find yourself in the Mendocino area, you to have visit The Brewery Gulch Inn. I decided to get a last minute massage it was possibly one of the best I've ever had and I've been a spa owner. For all these reasons, we will be back. I also want to mention the food was delicious thanks to Chef Steve. The selections prepared were excellent.

The Brewery Gulch Inn offers an intimate, relaxing, romantic setting for anybody looking to escape the grind and recharge for a few days. My wife and I hadn't taken a vacation in a long time. While we're no stranger to Disneyland or Vegas, our favorite trips tend to be quieter ones. Pismo Beach, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Aptos... places near the water where you can stretch out and relax, without feeling over-stimulated. Mendocino seemed perfect and after only a short bit of Googling, it seemed that the Brewery Gulch was THE location to try. The Brewery Gulch is an impressive wood cabin from the outside, with an enviable, serene garden on the brief drive in. As soon as we stepped out of the car and into the gravel parking lot, the subtle, intoxicating aroma of burning firewood welcomed us. The great room (where you check-in, eat, and enjoy wine hour) is an impressive sight, with a huge wood burning fireplace, wide selection of games, movies, and reading material, and enormous glass windows that expresses every inch of the nearby Mendocino coastline - including a gorgeous view of the cove, with the greater Pacific Ocean clearly in-sight just over the hill. Every single staff member that we encountered was helpful, polite, and happy. We arrived during wine hour and were treated to the absolute best bowl of seafood chowder that I've ever had in my life. Beyond that, there was a sweet vinegarette salad with mixed greens and gorgonzola, as well as dessert: a perfectly assembled berry shortcake, in which the cake was cubed and tossed with blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, and a clearly made-in-house whipped cream. We stayed 3 nights. Every meal was tastier than the one that preceded it. For those wondering: the appetizers that they serve during wine hour are more than enough for dinner. We didn't go hungry once. We stayed in the Osprey room, which had a clear view of the ocean. Very large tub that my wife and I had no trouble sharing. In-room fireplace, two of the most comfortable leather chairs you're ever going to find, the best foot ottoman I've ever used, and a feathertop King sized bed that we absolutely melted into. Despite everything we loved about Brewery Gulch, I should mention the following (in the spirit of full transparency): the rooms do not include air conditioning... though the cool, mild climate doesn't really necessitate it. The large soaking tub is very decadent, but when you opt for a shower instead of a bath, the water pressure completely vanishes. And lastly: as wonderful as the staff is, they leave the premises at 8 PM. So, when one of your neighbors is blaring their TV through the fairly thin walls at 11 PM, your choices are to either try to ignore it or go knock on that person's door. To their credit, the Brewery Gulch does have a sign beneath all TVs, asking you to only play soft volume after 9 PM. All things considered: none of those minor inconveniences even came close to upsetting our stay at the Brewery Gulch. From the moment we checked in, we were in heaven... and we can't wait to go back again!

My husband and I had a very memorable experience here. The view from their community patio is incredible, and it was lovely to see so many birds. The service is spectacular and makes you feel at home. I enjoyed the food at the restaurant as well. There are a lot of nice touches that make this feel like more than a hotel.

I've stayed there several times and enjoyed it a lot but sooooo many guests complain about noise from adjacent rooms. It annoyed me so much on our last visit that I have never returned The place was designed without sufficient sound insulation and in some rooms it's so bad that you can literally hear every word somebody is saying in the next room and even hear their more intimate activities in high Fidelity. They really need to bite the bullet close the place for a few months and fix this problem. It would cost a lot in construction expense and lost revenue and they obviously would rather have guests suffer this annoying problem than lose the revenue and fix it. It's their inn and they can call the shots. I have no problem with that but I can call the shots on where I stay and I prefer a quiet room.

This place is peace on earth . The location overlooks the ocean , the sounds of the waves and seagulls. Life slows down here, and that is a much needed change.

I'm giving BGI six stars. I come here several times a year to relax and enjoy the fresh ocean air. It never to feel like home. Beautiful setting and outstanding building. My preferred room has a little porch for sunning, reading, watching the birds and ocean. And, it has a Japanese soaking tub. The staff is highly professional, warm, and thoughtful. Thank you!

Loved this place!! We went here on our honeymoon: Really big windows in the main lobby looking out toward the ocean. The room was a good size and had its own patio and fireplace in the room. The bathtub was epic too. Isabelle at the front desk was so nice too! Really enjoyed the food hour and wine. Such big portions that we didn't even need to leave the hotel, which is what we wanted on our honeymoon. I do wish they had fire pits and hot tubs outside to relax and look out. Maybe a future addition to consider for the owners. Also, kinda hard to be intimate when the kitchen is literally on the other side of the hallway from our room. Felt like we were in the kitchen/cleaning quarters sometimes (pine room, so you know)...But honestly, incredible place. Loved it!!

This place was absolutely adorable and the service was lovely. Everyone that worked here was super friendly and accommodating -- Kurt at the front desk was awesome and I received a massage from Rebecca and she was amazing! Breakfast was complimentary with the room from 8-10am, wine hour and small plates also complimentary from 530pm-7pm. Love that they have a fun dvd collection, takes you back to the time of dvds! And I can't forget the GIANT bath tub in the bathroom, you can fit like 4 people in there (2 people laying down next to each other very comfortably). I absolutely loved the food, super good especially the breakfast. My favorite were the Johnnycakes. I would stay here again next time I'm in Mendocino.

Very hospitable, kind, generous staff. Beautiful view of the coast. Great ambiance. I didn't realize before coming here that it was all one building with 11 rooms in it but that made it feel like home. The rooms are nice with a great view (stayed in Raven and would recommend), the bath tub is like a hot tub and their bathroom amenities are so cozy! As other reviewers had said, the food is impressive! The menu is creative and unique and the taste is wonderful. The BGI signature drink for breakfast, Chai tea Lassi, really is heavenly - so good! The little individualized touches made this place special, from a hand written birthday note to a bottle of champagne in the room.

Had another great stay at the Brewery Gulch Inn. It is pricey but worth it for a special weekend on the coast. The owner is great as was the staff at the front desk. They even remembered a special dietary need from our last stay and prepared special dishes separate from the evening happy hour buffet. A bag of chocolates was waiting for us also; another special craving. A nice half bottle of sparkling was waiting for us in the room. Bed is comfortable, Smugglers Cove room is cozy, and everything is well cared for. With a great breakfast in the morning to get you going also.

This place is definitely a special gem in beautiful Mendocino County. The location is very quiet and peaceful, the ocean views are very soothing and the rooms are carefully designed to feel like home. Very large tubs for a couple to soak together, king size beds, fireplace in the room and an overall very exclusive experience! The staff are all very personal and make everyone feel very welcome. My husband and I really enjoyed our stay and had a very special time celebrating our anniversary! Thank you to everyone who made this experience so fun!

My husband and I just stayed here last week for our honeymoon! It was such an amazing experience. The entire staff was so helpful while planning our stay and day trips while visiting. They helped us set up horse back riding in Manchester and a picnic lunch. The food was excellent! We tried a few places in the area while we were out exploring and nothing measured up to the brewery gulch menu. I highly recommend returning in time for dinner each night. It was a very quiet and relaxing place to stay. We definitely plan on returning. Thanks for the memory honeymoon keychain!

We had a wonderful time at the Brewery Gulch Inn. The grounds and surrounding area are beautiful and serene. The Inn was warm and inviting as you enter the spacious common areas. Our room was nicely decorated and very comfortable. We are foodies, and applaud the first rate food. We complimented the chef as he was returning from the garden with fresh herbs. The Innkeepers are first rate hosts. They will provide lots of information to make the most of your stay. Champagne and s'mores at sunset with a personal beach bonfire was delightful. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. We plan to return.

We recently stayed for a beautiful November weekend and had THE best time. The rooms are unique, gorgeous and super clean. The breakfast that is included is absolutely first rate. Each day we were there, the front desk asked what fun adventures we were off to and always checked in to see if we needed anything when we got back. Rebekah at the front desk is a serious gem. We also appreciated that the rooms featured art from local artists. Highly recommend - we can't wait to go back.

We stayed in the Madrone Room, to ring in the new year & it was a nice relaxing getaway Be forewarned there is NO cell service but they do offer FREE WiFi and FREE local & domestic long-distance calls from their landlines - how awesome! Breakfast was top of the line gourmet - we enjoyed egg dishes; Brioche french toast that was thick & custardy; & pancakes that were thick & fluffy & just to die for!! Freshly squeezed OJ in the mornings & delightfully flavorful coffee All day, fresh, homemade muffins & pastries; coffee service & chilled water In the evenings, they have a Happy Hour w/ wine & a mini-buffet of dishes that ranged from glass noodles w/ mushrooms & beef skewers; to fresh truffled risotto & baked brie that was all incredibly tasty! Rooms were huge. We had our own private balcony as well as a little sitting area to watch tv - which was the full range of Direct TV, including a million Showtime channels. Beds / pillows were super-comfy. Bathrooms were huge & had lots of hot water w/ great water pressure. Molton Brown AND Asprey bath products - wonderfully smelly! And they offer the absolute fluffiest, plushest, most wonderful towels I have ever used in my life......EVER! Fireplace was a gas heater so really the "fire" could only be enjoyed while you were heating up your room.....unless you went into the lobby where they had a wood-burning fireplace & another larger deck to enjoy the woods & various colorful birds who came to partake of their feeders Only downer ( no fault of the facility ) was the family w/ the *constantly* screaming baby, who planted themselves in the lobby for the ENTIRE visit & this room echoed throughout the entire house so our visit was extremely loud But for what was in the control of the facility was top of the pops & the cherry on our sundae that was New Year's Eve! You'll love your stay at Brewery Gulch!!

Oh, Brewery Gulch Inn! Even though I never found any kind of brewery nearby, we had a lovely stay. 6am flight out of O'Hare, summer weekend rental hell at SFO, slow going through the safety corridor and the long haul to the North Coast, arrive reception hour at the BGI. Like the many lighthouses along the coastline, the BGI was the light at the end of the tunnel. The Inn is just charming. Our welcome was sweet and genuine. We were walked to our top floor corner room, called the "Osprey". It was a cozy king suite that had a huge soaker tub/shower, a fireplace, a seating area with a few chairs around it, a desk, flatscreen with DVD and DirectTV, and a huge patio with lounge chairs that overlooked the patio of the Inn and the cove. It was a spectacular view. There are fridges for guest use at the top of the stairs that I used to keep our beers cold. Coffee and teas are available 24/7 in the lobby. Wine and local craft beers from North Coast are served at happy hour. Dinner for guests nightly and breakfast is served each morning. It's not that day old bagel or cold muffin crap either. Made to order breakfast focusing on local seasonal produce. Not to miss is the bacon cooked with brown sugar and a nice kick of red pepper. Yeah, I'll have a side of that. Peach jam, from the stand just down the road?, is another thing you're going to want to enjoy . Everyone we dealt with at the Inn was courteous and welcoming. They helped us with confirming dinners, horseback riding and making sure we had the right directions. There is also a business setup in the lobby, a stocked library and DVD collection for your use. Keep your eyes open for wildlife about the grounds. We saw rabbits, jays, hummingbirds and quail. I'm really starting to fall in love with this kind of cozy and homey B&B. BGI is as nice as they come. And you can get a side of that spectacular bacon!

We loved our stay here. The food was incredible and the service outstanding. The appetizers during happy hour served each night were mouthwatering, I always wanted more. The breakfasts were large, made to order and fantastic. The B&B felt cozy and warm but not like you are staying in someone's home. The overall ambiance was super relaxing.

If the property sat on the other side of HWY1 by the water it would be 4.5 stars. Warm reception; got cute V day card, chocolate strawberry and various candy along with a single red rose in the room on V day which was a nice touch. Loved the breakfasts -- the million dollar bacon is great with the added spice. Omlettes were so fluffy! "Dinner" -- or evening snacks, over the three days never repeated which was nice. Non-guests can join for food at $35 per person, which was a bit steep. Would not say it was amazing -- parsnip soup was over salted; wished butternut squash was not served cold; but did enjoy the fact that after a day of walking around seeing the sights, we could retire to the hotel and eat without having to venture out again. The board games (scrabble table was always in use) and tons of DVD options for the taking to view in room was great. Stayed in the Meadowview room. Only complaint is that there was some door that keeps slamming and we couldn't figure out if it was a guest or service door. The room also had adult zen coloring book with color pencil provided. These little touches makes this property memorable.

WoW!! What a gem!!! The location, the room, the food, the view, the ambince & staff were all WONDERFUL!! we only got to saty for 2 delicious nights but we didn't want to leave. The owner couldn't have been more welcoming, he made us feel like family. Thanks for a very special getaway!!! Can't wait to come back !!!Sincerely , LiZ & Michelle

This is a wonderful place to relax. It is a perfect place as a base for exploring the Mendocino coast and if the weather is just not right, it is a wonderful place to relax. The breakfast is great with a good menu. The wood box dinner of the chef's choice is a unique concept and is nicely done, but there is no choices for dinner. The extra cost to stay here is worth it when you consider utilizing the meals offered. The grounds are nicely kept and the bird feeder, woodpeckers and blue jays are a special treat to watch.

This place is amazing. It's very beautiful and in a great location very close to Mendocino's downtown. The staff is very attentive and helpful. Breakfast and dinner are usually included in the stay and the staff was always able to cook an extra dish for me that was vegan. They even bought some extra vegan snacks for me (vegan chocolate, etc.) to snack from in the lobby area. A great experience!

Nice accommodations, but sneaky charges at the end of your stay! Was charge $139 for toiletries, they claimed there was sign of you take the shampoo, body soap and body lotion, you will be charged, there was no sign. We took them, they were already used , bottle were not full and no seals. Apparently they reuse the bottles between guests! Quite surprising given the Covid environment! We reported them to the county health supervisor.

This place was the perfect hideaway for our 9 year anniversary. We loved everything about it- from the plush furniture, spectacular location, extraordinary food (included in your room rate), luxury amenities, and stellar service. It was easy to see why they won so many top destination awards. It's perfect for romantic hideaways and adventure enthusiasts. Mendocino is an amazing hidden gem by the sea. Loved the NorCal region and want to go back asap!

Brewery gulch inn was an expected surprise. It's a cute cabin like building tucked away off the the highway 1. Walking in, I was taken back by its charm. It feels so homey, friendly staff welcomed us and personally showed us our room. The room was awesome. The view, breathtaking. Delicious food too! The main common area has tons of games and movies to borrow. The owner, Guy, was friendly and a wealth of knowledge about the area. I would recommend a stay here to anyone, especially a get away for two.

Don't let the name fool you this is not a brewery but a beautifully restored boutique rustic inn set on the Mendocino coast, close enough to see and hear the waves crashing in the little bay. Enjoy a glass of wine and hors d'oeuvres served nightly on the deck where the woodpeckers chase the little squirrels away as the sun sets in the evening sky. A large fireplace warms the in at night and a fire pit is located outside. Breakfast is delicious and made to order. Bed and bathrooms are tastefully done and very clean, nice touches are the toiletries and robes. Loved the natural idyllic setting and dreaming of coming back soon.

Loveys, listen up. 1. Life is very short. 2. Life ought not be something that "happens" to you. 3. Life is not like a box of chocolates. 4. Life is not a bowl of cherries. 5. Sometimes when being in the present and all we forget that we aren't going to live forever. 6. Who would want to, anyway. Sorry. Off track. I'm not telling you anything you don't know already. I say all this only in the spirit of a gentle reminder. An urging, as it were, to take a half step back and see if perhaps it wouldn't be useful to do something completely different. If not a complete change, maybe just a weekend. I was fortunate enough last week to have the opportunity to catch my breath, to on a whim simply leave. And I recognize how lucky I am to be able to settle at the BGI for four days and three nights. The Inn is the second to last property before Big River headed north on 1 towards Mendocino. The Inn is on the east side of the highway, the one and only aspect of the experience that I wish i could change. I've no recent recollection of a string of evenings so blissfully spent. The room (Madrone) was tastefully appointed, comfortably spacious. Tub for two, a rack of DVDs in the living room for Abby (I wasn't with Abby, for the record), flowers everywhere, a blue jay. Your meals are included. We didn't partake in supper, just the wine before. There were places in Mendo I missed too much. But the breakfasts, the breakfasts, the breakfasts. I only have two words for the breakfasts: Millionaire's Bacon. Thick-sliced, honey glazed, peppered bacon. If heaven had but a single meat I am certain this would be it. The staff were perfect, the sweet server in the morning her name escapes me I think it started with M - you, my dear, are the sunshine inside the house. Thanks BGI for getting my head back on straight. For the reminder that if one keeps one's nose too close to the grindstone for too prolonged a period one will grind one's face off and that sucks. Take a break. Get your bad self out of town for a spell. Get some of that bacon. Life is short, after all.

I can't agree more about the reviews. Thank you Guy, you are a delight. Your staff is fabulous the food is amazing, view, accommodation, happy hour, all of it was a pleasure. We stayed down the road at a b&b that was pretentious and stuffy, not here!!! I will becoming back

Booked a last minute trip to Mendocino and am lucky I found the BGI. Such a nice, relaxing property with great hospitality to match. *make sure to use the fire pit out front for a relaxing evening. The happy hour is the best that I've ever seen. We cannot wait to come back!

A beautiful stay, great service, fun wine time, fabulous breakfast and dinner. The rooms are tastefully decorated, beds are wonderful. Scenic views, romance in the air. Love this place, did I mention the good food?

Brewery Gulch Inn doesn't need yet another superlative rating to secure it's well-deserved place as THE BEST LODGING within 100 miles north or south of Mendocino. But I'm going to write something anyway, only because I am, after numerous stays, NEVER disappointed with, yet frequently reminded of, how good life is here. It's all the little and large things together that make BGI such a perfect destination: the luxurious and tastefully appointed rooms (plush beds, linens, pillows; leather club chairs, chenille throws, flat screen TV, fireplace, views, soaking tubs in each room); the BGI Great Room with massive fireplace, cozy seating, complimentary coffee, tea, pastries throughout the day; the tranquil meadow setting just above Highway 1 and Smugglers Cove; the incredible breakfasts and wine/pre-dinner fare (yes, you could call this dinner!). But perhaps what makes BGI so amazing are the people. Guy (proprietor) goes out of his way to make you feel that this is your vacation home. Jo Anne (Manager) attends to every need you may have and is warm and welcoming. And if you are lucky enough to meet Sarah (breakfast server), you will understand why we keep coming back and feel like we have family on the North Coast. While at BGI, you can be as social or hermit-like as you desire. the BF and I usually select the latter, as this is OUR PLACE to unwind, take long naps, read, catch-up on movies, or just feel pampered by everything that the Inn has to offer. Truly a special place that we can't get enough of. To be sure, there are less expensive lodging options in the area. But the BGI experience is not really about it's premium cost. It's about removing yourself from the pattern and pace of your daily life and entering their gracious world. For me, you can't put a price tag on that kind of experience.

This bed and breakfast hotel was fabulous! We loved everything about it. The room was perfect, and we had a nice sitting area inside as well as a beautiful view on the balcony. There was even a huge double soaking bathtub for two people. We really enjoyed the wine hour with appetizers each day, and the breakfast food and service was phenomenal. Rebecca, at the front desk, was especially helpful and friendly, and she gave us a ton of ideas and tips for places to see, eat and drink in the area. The rest of the staff was also great, as was the massage I had while there. So good! It was an amazing and relaxing weekend, and I would highly recommend staying there. We plan to again, hopefully soon.

The Brewery Gulch was nice but not quite as nice as Coastal Living Magazine made it out to be. Don't get me wrong, the grounds were pretty and the staff was nice but being regarded as one of the top 500 hotels in the world, I expected a little more. I would have given this hotel 5 stars if.. - The rooms were more quiet (my biggest pet peeve) our first room had a clicking fireplace and we could hear the guest above is walking and talking. The second room was in ear shot of the kitchen. Bustle begins around 7. -If the rooms were more updated. The decor was something of a nineties appeal. I'm a big advocate of attention to detail (the caramels on the bed were a nice touch) the furnishings were dated and the accents reminded me of my grandparents cabin. -My biggest disappointment was the view. Coming to Mendocino everyone told us how beautiful the views were.. Even The Brewery Gulch's website portrayed expansive views. Although only a sliver of the ocean was visible to the Inn (see photo). Additional comments: -The DVDs skip like crazy, we ended up buying the same movie on iTunes just to finish it -This is a very Quiet atmosphere. I would highly recommend it for older couples seeking a quiet escape.

We stayed at five different places on our road trip to the Redwoods and Brewery Gluch Inn is a must stay! This was by far our favorite place. We only stayed one night and wished we would've at least stayed two or three.

Having read the many great reviews here, all I can say is...they are correct. Place is one of a kind. Truly. If anyone has anything to complain about, not folks I would want to travel with. It simply doesn't get any better. The other guests there were also just the best and just delightful. Warmth and hospitality is as plentiful and your surroundings. Cannot wait to go back. Skip any meal reservations you have and just stay put.

Wonderful stay. Gracious hosts. Although we live in San Francisco, we've never visited the Mendocino area. The inn is just down the road from the main town and has views of the ocean. Only issue is you can hear the cars go by on the road, which is frequently traveled, but at night the frogs in their pond drown out the noise.

We spent our honeymoon at Brewery Gulch Inn and had such an amazing experience. We stayed in the Pelican Room, and thoroughly enjoyed snuggling up by the fireplace and enjoying our morning coffee on the balcony watching the woodpeckers with a view of Smugglers Cove. We kicked off our stay with a couples massage, which was heavenly! Both massage therapists were kind and communicative, applying the perfect amount of pressure for both of us and focusing on our individual problem areas. The "wine hour" each night is delicious and extremely generous. It was more than enough for dinner and we looked forward to seeing what wines would be paired with it each night. The breakfast is also stellar (especially the chilaquiles)! We also booked a horseback ride on the beach through Brewery Gulch. Our guide Tobi of Ross Ranch was very knowledgeable and the ride was gorgeous! The hotel is a convenient drive from Mendocino (check out Fog Eater Bottle Shop), Fort Bragg, and Navarro. We enjoyed hiking, wine tasting, and tidepooling as we explored the area. The Brewery Gulch Inn staff are warm, attentive, and incredibly thoughtful. When we checked out, they provided us with a commemorative "key" so we can forever remember our dreamy honeymoon in Mendocino. Such a personal touch and really reflective of the individualized care Brewery Gulch shows its guests. We highly recommend you book Brewery Gulch Inn on your next trip to the area!

Our children gave us a two day "package " to celebrate our 50th Anniversary starting with Brewery Gulch which was SPECTACULAR in every respect. We were world travelers for 35 of our 50 years together and, my dear wife always made sure we always stayed and ate at the very best. Brewery Gulch fit right in and was outstanding in every possible way. We stayed in the Osprey Room overlooking Smugglers Cove and the Pacific Ocean. The owner, Guy, is "hands on" and has every detail covered. He even held a blind wine tasting of local Pinot Noirs which I love being an old collector of fine wines. All the staff are very helpful and friendly. Rooms are very cozy. There are over 3 choices for a full breakfast cooked to order which is served individually and, dinner is buffet style. All the food is terrific. Guy also made some great suggestions on local lunch and dinner spots as well as special spots to visit.
