Brewery Füchschen

This is an historic building! We got there before the crowds on Saturday and were able to have a good look of the place. Pea soup was the best I’ve had! Hearty & delicious. Currywurst was very delicious too! The other sausage was yummy with a better than expected potato salad! Restrooms/toilets were super clean. House beer was an amber ale or brown lager. They also have other types of beer. If you are in Düsseldorf, this is worth checking out. We all enjoyed great beers & great food in an old brewery 🤩 That experience was 5-star

An address that anyone who comes to Germany or Duesseldorf should visit, the Crispy Roasted Pork Leg with Pickled Purple Cabbage is a German specialty. With a crispy fried crust, the meat is soft and not dry, very rich, the famous fragrant dark beer makes the dish even more attractive to diners. The Steak and French fries are also very special, here you often have to wait because they do not accept reservations, there are many customers so it is only for those who love

A solid brewery in Dusseldorf. We came in for beers during lunch, and then for dinner for food and drinks again. The servers are nice, they know English and they have a laugh with you. Food comes in large portions, and is pretty tasty. The schnitzel was a solid 8/10, ive had better but it was certainly a good schnitzel. My missus had the herring fish with sour cream and potatoes, and she enjoyed it too. Prices are decent. Good atmosphere. No complaints. We'll be back again.

It was a quiet Sunday lunch when I visited. The service was efficient, though not as friendly as I've experienced at the five brauhauses I've tried in Köln. As usual, the food arrived super fast (I think brauhaus are the original fast food). Very good portion, and tasty - good value for money. Düsseldorf's speciality/city beer is 'Altbier'. It's darker and a more adult/complex flavour than Köln's speciality/city beer, 'Kolsch'. The latter is a light lager, which goes down as easily as a soft-drink/soda. Based on this one experience of Altbier, I have to say, I prefer it over Kolsch.

Very German experience! The service is a little rough around the edges, but very nice all together. Hardly any tourists when we were there. You get served the standard beer they have, which is very good. They keep score on the coaster on how many you drank. The food is heavy German comfort food, not the most sophisticated but good. If you want a German beer food experience good place to go!

First time also went there for food after drinking a couple of times there. Very good standards, traditional German food. No compromises with burgers and fries. Just german food done good, but flexibel so everyone had what they want. And very funny waiters who made the experience for our group of 5 even better. Also quick service without feeling being rushed

If you are looking for an authentic German experience in the heart of the city then this place has go you covered. Füchschen brewery has typical German cuisine and beers ofcourse with a vintage looking interior decor as well as outdoor tables, you can also find a section indoors with natural lighting. Do visit if you want to get the experience of a local brewery with tasty food.

Food and Beers were great! Make sure you ask where to sit when you walk in. There is a system on how these places work and we were told we had 1.5 hrs before we'd need to leave our table. Their beer is so good and I highly recommend the Schnitzel.

My first Altbier in Germany...love the service and the old German brauhaus feel. It's a must visit for a bier lover..

This is one of the most historical German breweries and I absolutely love its vibrant ambiance! They are located in the very heart of Düsseldorf 's Altstadt (Old Town) and have excellent alt beers (the dark, slightly bitter brew which is typical of the Düsseldorf area and almost like a religion here). They also have a wide menu of regional and perfectly executed German delicacies, including the Schweinemett (raw pork) and Schnitzel. It's aways worth a visit while in Düsseldorf. Prices are very fair and the portions are super generous.

Stopped in for some alt biers while on vacation. The staff was typical of a brewery in the area. Quick, helpful, all spoke at least enough English. The beer is great. The refills come fast and often. Didn't get to try the food but it looked great.

The Füchschen Brauerei located in Old Town, is one of the oldest local 4 breweries in Düsseldorf. As expected, the place is very popular and busy. We were lucky to get seated fairly quickly though (the place is big), and enjoyed homemade specialties of the Rhenish cuisine with their tasty beer, the "Füchschen Alt". Fun if you are looking for a traditional Dusseldorf brewery experience!

This review is based on one visit. I stumbled upon this place after walking a few blocks past St. Lambertus Church. I walked in an found a table made from a cask. It was damn warm inside but I was super hungry. I opened the menu and was all in German so I simply asked my waiter for Bratwurst, sauerkraut and an Alt Bier. I don't speak German and my waiter didn't speak much English but the order came out correct. My meal was OK but the service was lacking. I know the service is different between USA and Germany but it took forever to get out of there. Fortunately, a different server saw that my plate and my beer glass were both empty and my that credit card was on the table. I didn't receive a warm response when I told them that I didn't have cash. I had to walk over to some area to close out with a credit card. I closed out and the price was very reasonable. I think the food was OK, the beer was good, the prices were good and the service was lacking.

Found in old town. This brewery serves Alt beer and wonderful brewery food. This is one of my favorite breweries. I absolutely love when the beer tastes so fresh and that it never stops coming. I love the roasted pork shank. so if your a person who likes thick crispy roasted pork skin and fat that has rendered down to soften the meat, While seating in a bed of gravy. This is the dish to try.

Drinking at 11am is usually not how I start the day. Or is it? With the intense heat today even this early in the day, a round or two of beers was just what we needed to beat the heat. Brauerei im Füchsen had a nice patio area on the sidewalk and was very prompt with drinks. Thankfully it was nice and shaded. I tried the Pils thinking it'd be perfect and not too heavy. It was really refreshing and you should definitely give them a try. The next beer I tried was their Altbier which I anticipated as being a bit heavier and hoppier but it was also very refreshing and actually reminded me of a cup of coffee - perfect for the morning. Definitely check this place out. The beer is flowing!

This place definitely lived up to expectations and more. It's in Oldtown, which is a very cute part of time. We came in on a weeknight and it was packed but we were able to get seated quickly. There were 3 of us and we decided on two entrees as the portions looked large. We went with the schnitzel and pork knuckle. WOW! The pork knuckle was perfectly crispy and the meat was so moist. The schnitzel was also delicious. But the pork knuckle really stood out. All we could think about the rest of the trip was the pork knuckle! For how much food you get, the price is excellent.

Excellent food - a must go-to during your trip. I enjoyed an excellent local brew alongside a blood sausage. The experience was a culinary fireworks event in my mouth. The meal was expertly crafted and served very quickly. We will certainly visit here again the next time we come to Germany.

Well, this place takes the crown for best Alt-bier I had while visiting Dusseldorf. If I didn't need to do any touristy things for the rest of the day, I would have had more than 3 beers. The beer is fruity and leaves a slightly bitter-malty finish at the end, which gives a crisp and refreshing profile. Also the liver dumplings here are top notch. Don't miss this place.

This is a great place to eat - especially if you are hungry!! The food is typical German food and very tasty, the beer is good and the portions are very generous. As soon as your beer glass is empty, the waiter will deliver a replacement unless you put a beer mat on top of your current glass!

Traditional Dusseldorf brewing house with great food, typical and traditional rough/edgy servers and wonderful "Altbier". My choices when being in Dusseldorf are either DAS SCHIFFCHEN or IM FÜCHSCHEN. Pricing Im Füchschen is a bit lower and the crowd is less touristy. Any of their dishes are recommended. I favor a good pork knuckle (Schweins-haxe) when available. Just check out the picture. Oh, and, they have alcohol-free Füchschen Beer that tastes good...in case you have to drive. You can't go wrong with this place when in Dusseldorf and if you're hankering hearty Westfalian foods.

Authentic and delicious German food. Shared tables and the beer will continually flow until you cover your glass with a coaster. Fuchschen is located in the old city part of Dusseldorf and a must for anyone looking for hearty traditional German fare.

Looking for old world German, head here! Beautiful old building, German menus (you'll have to ask for English ones), shared seating, fresh Altbier! Remember, when you've had enough bier place your coaster on top of your glass, signalling ENOUGH We ate here twice, on our first visit we saved the gargantuan pork knuckles for the tourists and tried some German faves like the Pot Roast and Creamed Herring, which was exceptional! Our second go-round had us going for the pork knuckle along with assorted Wursts and kraut, also delicious... Sand the Altbiers kept a coming - No complaints here!

Being in Dusseldorf (and in Germany) for only a day, I wanted it to count. Looked in Yelp and found this place as a typical local brewery. The place do live up to the expectations. A large set of tables outside do welcome you... you shouldn't expect the personnel to do or sit you. You just set for a table outside or inside an sit there! I was alone and the smallest table available inside was one for eight. I felt a bit strange to sit there but it seemed alright and a couple quickly sat on the other end of the table.... just the way to do things here! The menu (set on the table along the flatware, napkins and coasters) was all in German but the server showed up quickly and brought me one in english after I asked for it. He proposed the beer produced by the brewery the "Füchschen Alt" a typical "Altbier" from the area. It is served very cold and is quite nice. Wanted to have a typical meal, I did set for the "Choucroute garnie" served with mashed potatoes, ham and a nice selection of sausages. Service was efficient and the waiter was nice enough. At the end it did cost me 15 euro for the meal and two beers... the waiter was a little upset that I wanted to pay with a credit card "Here in Germany people use cash, it's quicker" and that I'll have to go with him at the front to access to the machine (my card had "chip and pin" like they say in Europe) and it was really not a big deal.

Great atmosphere, service, food, and beer! What more could you ask for? I visited for lunch with my husband and parents and we all took the "Schnitzel Wiener Art" (pork meat) with cranberries, fried potatoes and salad. Our waiter was even nice enough to pack us a to-go box so we could enjoy the leftovers back home!

Came here around 9:00p on our first night in Dusseldorf, recommended by our hotel's front desk. Despite being fairly late in a Tuesday, the place was near capacity. Not sure if it was a typical Tuesday evening or if it was because of the trade show or the champions league match, but I was surprised at the crowd. We had the schnitzel and the sauerbraten and both were very good. The schnitzel had a nice crunch to the breading, yet was still moist and not overlooked. The sauerbraten was melt in the mouth tender. I had the Alt, which not surprisingly is the only draft beer they serve. The only other beer available is their own weizenbock, served in a swing top bottle. While there didn't appear to be any other children, they did have a high chair for our daughter, so I guess you can say they are family friendly. The staff was cordial and several of the waiters came by to say hello to our girl. All in all, a terrific experience. If there weren't so many other pubs I want to try, I would go back in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.

Nice setting on an old street in the Altstadt. They brew their own beer. The type is known as Alt. It's dark, not as sweet as the dark Bavarian beers, not as stout as a Guiness, and not as good as a Pils or Lager. The food is adequate. The red cabbage had almost a gelatinous consistency. The Sauerbraten was anything but sour. The waiters were efficient but brusque. Nothing special.

They get 1 Star. The food was great great great but the service is shit shit shit. This place is busy, very but not as busy as some of the places I've cooked. They need to hire some waiters who can handle a busy service. Working in a cool place doesn't make you a bad-ass. You're still a servant, you are serving, drop your attitude and serve. You're an insult to the establishment.

Horrible, horrible service. I don't sense that the employees like foreigners whatsoever. The place was slammed and we sat down at a table that hadn't been cleared, and I didn't want to pay for the empty beer glasses on the table, so I just carried them over to the dishwasher. The waiter quickly confronted me and said, "oh, you're doing my job now? Do you not have enough time?" I replied, "I was just trying to help." He continues to yell at me, both in German and English, and scoffs as he leaves. The natives at the table next to us tried to tell us that it was normal, and not to worry, but the damage was done. I was brought to tears due to this man, and in a public restaurant. If I'm in Dusseldorf I will never return here.

This is a really fun spot to grab a beer, eat some cheap food and watch the tourists. We had a patio seat and were able to experience our first authentic beer and bratwurst. The nice waitress took great care of us and we had a nice relaxing first evening in Altstadt.

As we were strolling around in Altstadt and checking our trusting Yelp app to find good eats, a local person walking by butted in our conversation nicely and pointed us to Füchschen for good altbier, food, and fun. There is no shortage of pubs or breweries nearby by, hence the claim of having "the longest bar in the world" in Altstadt, and this place stands out as being more crowded despite its massive size. Drinks came almost immediately after we were seated, this is one of the four house-breweries where altbier is brewed on premises so altbier is what you get...pretty perfect! As soon as you finish one another will be brought to you and another pencil mark added to the coaster that serves as a beer tab. Traditional hearty German food to go with the Alt. Schweinhaxe (pork knuckle) and Wiener Schnitzel are very good, both came with plenty of sides and definitely satisfactory. German menu on the table, but if you ask they will bring the English menu.

Visited this brewery with a few of my buddies on my trip to Germany in October. It was his favorite place for beer so of course I said "lets do it!" As we walked towards this place, it was crowded with patrons of all ages sitting inside and out. Definitely a good sign. The insides? This place is old so you could say it's basic yet charming. But who cares. The highlight of my time there were the waiters. Want to be waited on hand and foot? Want to be pampered? Or just want plain service? Forget about this place. Our waiter ignored us and came over only when he was done chatting with his fellow waiters. I thought it was an isolated incident but to my irritation, he ignored us over... and over... and over again. There were no misunderstandings or thoughts that "maybe he didn't see us." We waved to him. Made eye contact. He waved back and continued to chat away. LOL! Talk about an asshole!!! It was then that my buddy told me that this was considered normal service from back in the day... the German way. My annoyance gave way to amusement and soon I was laughing my ass off!! I'm giving this place 4 stars because of the beer. Füchschen Alt. Get it. It's definitely the beer to try. Can't give it the full 5 stars since I didn't have a chance to go out and do my "taste test" at the other breweries/bars. Also, I don't know how the food tastes here since we ate somewhere else but the beer here is pretty damn good. And of course in regards to the service... you'll get it... eventually... It's a place definitely worth visiting. Just don't go there with a chip on your shoulder.

Been back there again and everything stays the same, delicious beer and love the mett , plus the kaise brotchen, spelled wrong but an open faced cheese sandwhich on delicious bread, great cheese..wait staff love them, they humor me with their English and my few german words in response....a great place for fun and food.

Massive building. We grabbed a place in the greenhouse section at the back and ordered some traditional hearty German fayre to go with our Fuchsen Alts! My Bratwurst (snigger) and potato salad was very tasty. The worst toilets I encountered on the trip. They would not have looked out of place in an English pub!

I've not much to add to the other reviews. The food and beer is great, but the refills are a bit slow. They have English menus, so be sure to ask if you're confused, but also check the German menus for the daily specials that are not in the English version. Beer is €1.80/0.25L, cheaper than Schumacher.

This was my first stop of the evening. This was recommended by our Hotel. 1,90 € each for Alt. Excellent environment. Cobblestone street and seating and serving stations on the sidewalk.

A friend of mine that I met in the United States is from Dusseldorf and when I decided to study abroad in the Netherlands I made it a point to stop by her home town and check it out - Little did I know that I was in for the best 4 days of my life. Germany is obviously know for some top notch beers, but if you're in Dusseldorf you'd better be drinking Alt Bier! The first time three of my friends went here we sat down with said German friend and she told us just to order a small beer and then whatever we wanted from the menu. We sat at a huge picnic style table with about two other groups and the atmosphere was just so inviting. The vibes and the decor in this brewery made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside... or was that just the beer? The food came out and it was out of this world. Honestly, I can't even tell you what I had at dinner that night and this is only due to what I am about to say... Every time your beer is even close to being finished, you turn to talk to your neighbor and BOOM! Just like that, there is a new beer in its place and there is no sign of the waiter or waitress. How is that even possible?!?! I have no idea, but it was fantastic! By the end of the dinner the waiter had kept track of the number of beers we had in pencil on the table and I just saw rows of 5 as far as the eye could see. This place is truly an experience of a life time. The service was better than anything I have ever had in the US even though it is constantly packed with people. About two days later, we came back to the brewery on Easter Sunday for one last taste of delicious Alt Bier and the food. This place was packed full of drunk and friendly Germans. I've never met so many nice drunk people in one single place! The food and the service were the same as before. It's evident that this place has something good going on here. The food, the beer, the service, and the experience all add up to what was the best 4 days of my life. Dusseldorf, you are an amazing city with a lot to share.

Great spot in Düsseldorf, where tradition and taste meet. I strongly advise to try their home made beer, the best I had in Düsseldorf. Pork meat is special too! Prices are affordable and reasonable, grey spot for big groups as they do have big tables all over!

Hands down the best meal I had in Germany. This was just properly good meat and potatoes, but done so well. Service in Europe can be pretty bad, including Germany. With the waiter, I couldn't tell if he was being an asshole or sarcastic, but in the end, we still got served. Obviously, you sit down and order Altbiers. They brew their own brand of the Dusseldorf specific beer. They're small, but they keep coming as the waiter will refill them as you finish them. I highly recommend the: Marinated pot roast "Rhineland style" with red cabbage, potato dumplings, and apple sauce. The roast was so soft and juicy. The cabbage had a proper sour bite to it instead of being a mushy mess. The sweet apple sauce complimented the saltiness in the pot roast's sauce. The dumpling was nothing I've had before as a large ball of potatoey goodness. It was similar to a matzah ball, but more firm and doughy. My friend got a huge rack of ribs that he could've get close to finish. When it came to the table, it looked like something that would be served at an American BBQ restaurant, not in Europe. This is truly for Germans or Americans, as the portions are enormous. Enjoy the food, the beer, and the atmosphere of the old, old brewery.

Its the best brewery in Düsseldorf. Tourists as well as locals go there to enjoy a good, cold Füchschen which expecially in summer is so refreshing. The prices are fair enough. Go inside and see the oldfashioned rooms with old paintings and much wood. Or stand outside and watch all the different people passing the Ratinger Straße. Try the various meals, especially the sausages and meat plates, eg. with knuckles, blood sausage, Bratwurst and many other sausages Eat it with a salad or sauerkraut, fried potatoes or fresh bread. It goes very well with the beer. All of my Asian friends liked it.

Had a late evening dinner in March 2009. I was craving schnitzel and someone had recommended Brauerei im Füchschen. It had been raining and as it was late the restaurant was sparsely occupied. I ordered a Wiener Schnitzel (served with fried potatoes), side salad, a 0.25 liter draught of Füchschen Alt, some Gerolsteiner still water and cheesecake for dessert. The beer and the schnitzel were outstanding, the cheesecake was good, and the salad was fair. Overall the meal was delicious, hearty and fulfilling

This place is great. The beer is spectacular. Only one on tap but their Alt is the best. It came highly recommended by the locals and after 2 years when I came back to Dusseldorf this was my first stop again. Kinda hard to order from the menu since the staff is not the friendliest but I just point to something and it has never been bad. I'll be back tomorrow, and possibly the next day till I go back home.

Great beer, ridiculously large portions and rude waiters that bring you beer even when you don't ask for it. The food is mostly traditional German dishes...large roasted pig legs, brats, sour kraut, etc. The beer is their own brew.

Big, loud and not so pretty Brauhaus, cooking is plain and ok. But the Fuechschen Alt ist far the best Altbier of Duesseldorf, very smooth and not bitter.

Excellent. Basic decor and good solid German food cooked to an excellent standard. The Altbier keeps coming until you tell them to stop (or you are kicked out). Recommend the Haxe. Is crowded most nights, a mix of tourists and locals at the weekend, suits during the week.

Füchschen is a very good Altbier brewery that also serves food. Yes, it's set up to serve lots of people and they serve hot food later than other places, but if you come looking for the best German food, you could be disappointed. On the other hand, if you're not looking for gourmet food or the very best of German cuisine, but do want some very good Alt that you won't find outside Düsseldorf and solid German food at a reasonable price, Füchschen is a very good choice. Or you can just come for the beer, and then it's great.

I go here every trip to Dusseldorf. The beer is good, the service is decent and the food is fantastic. Nice place for a couple or a group. Just be aware its almost always full so go early if you have a larger group.
