Brick Bay Wines & Sculpture Trail

This is my second visit. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to try the lunch menu. The meal, accompanied by a wine pairing, was wonderful and delicious. The staff were friendly, and the service was excellent. It was a wonderful feeling to visit the sculpture park and come back having bought wine and olive oil. I'd love to visit again and highly recommend this place. You should definitely go there at least once~

We had a wonderful lunch at Brick Bay Wines & Sculpture Trail and it ticked all the boxes. We were a group of 10 people plus 2 dogs, and it was great to find such a dog-friendly venue that could comfortably accommodate a larger booking. I had the beef burger, along with a wine paddle, and everything was absolutely delicious. The rosé was a standout and very popular across the table. Others loved the fish croquettes, and the affogato was a hit to finish things off. The service was excellent. Friendly, efficient, and well organised. As we were there on New Year’s, we were advised to order food early to avoid longer wait times, which was really helpful and well managed. Our table overlooked a beautiful pond, and being able to walk around the water and sculpture trail before and after lunch really added to the experience. A relaxed, scenic setting with great food and wine. Highly recommend this place when visiting Matakana or nearby. We’ll definitely be back.

We had lunch at Brick Bay Wines & Sculpture Trail as a group of nine people, and it was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences during our trip. The setting itself is already special. Knowing that this place was once an old brick factory gives it real character, and the transformation into a winery, restaurant, and sculpture park has been done beautifully. After walking through the sculpture trail, surrounded by nature and art, sitting down for lunch felt like a natural continuation of the experience rather than just “going to a restaurant.” The staff were genuinely friendly and professional. Even with a large group like ours, everything was handled smoothly and calmly. Orders were taken clearly, questions were answered patiently, and most importantly, the food came out surprisingly fast, which we really appreciated. As for the food — honestly, it exceeded expectations. The lamb rack was excellent. No gamey smell at all, perfectly cooked, tender, and well-seasoned. Even those who are usually sensitive to lamb absolutely enjoyed it. The steak was cooked just right, juicy and flavorful, paired nicely with the sides and sauce. The burger was also very satisfying — not just a “winery burger,” but something you would happily order again. Overall, portion sizes were generous without feeling heavy, and everything felt well thought out rather than rushed. The house wine deserves a special mention. It paired beautifully with the food, smooth and well-balanced. We liked it so much that we ended up buying three bottles to take with us — which says a lot. What really stands out about Brick Bay is how well everything comes together: the history of the place, the sculpture walk, the relaxed but refined atmosphere, attentive service, and consistently good food and wine. It’s not just a meal; it’s a full experience. Highly recommended for couples, families, or even larger groups. We would absolutely come back, and next time, we would plan to stay even longer to enjoy the grounds and wine a bit more slowly. A place that truly leaves a good memory.

Had a very good lunch and walk at Brick Bay Wines & Sculpture Trail. The drive was just about an hour but the experience there was great. We had warm olives which were nice as there were three types of olives. The lentil, chickpeas and curry soup was deliciously good. So was the crispy squid which was cooked with thin layer of batter. Fish croquettes were yummy too. The fish meat was covering by crispy and thin batter making them crispy outside and soft inside. I love the pumpkin salad and I must say every dish is covered with nice crunchy salad which made the dishes very tasty.

Visited here on 7/11/25 for lunch. Great on site restaurant & plenty of cool sculptures nearby to see even if you don't do the walk (I ran out of time). Partner and I shared the cheeseboard and has great local additions including a yummy smoked Manukau Honey 💛 I also had a really nice spiced dark rum mojito. 😊 Had a great time overall!

A lovely setting. Many ponds, fish, native trees and birds. The trail is well sign posted, it does have steps/stairs in some parts. Mist of the walk is under the tree canopy. There is a large variety of sculptures. There are bench seats around the trail to sit and rest or take the time to enjoy the surroundings. We had brunch in the restaurant that has large picturesque windows over looking a pond. That had fish and lily flowers. The restaurant was light and airy. There are out door dining areas . Staff efficient , helpful and chatty.

We had an amazing delicious lunch today. Staff were absolutely wonderful with genuine great customer service. All our food was delicious, I think it's a place you need to visit several times to sample all items on the menu.

It's a beautiful, beautiful location, with well presented food, at a pretty good price with very good staff. On two of those points though, I would have some caveats but probably just personal points rather than across the board. The mezze platter was very good however the tabbouleh is not tabbouleh. Its bulgur wheat with a parsley garnish. It should almost be the other way round but that's how they do it, perhaps for a NZ audience. The additional salmon was a little dry and felt hasty rather than sumptuous. Probably just unlucky. The service was attentive yet a bit saccharine and I felt we were just being buttered up for tips. There was certainly an impressive array of tipping options when we went to pay. I feel the platters are too siloed and are possibly designed to encourage buying two which for two people is a little much. A larger one combining meats, cheeses and mezze would be welcome. The tasting room was not open today as a staff member was sick. The alternative was a tasting paddle which was also already chosen for you and quite siloed in that there were only three set paddle options without the ability to combine the three wines you wanted to taste. I'm not sure why. Overall, I think its an impressive space and with a couple of tiny tweaks could be formidable.

I'll be honest, tough to get a last minute reservation, but good if you get one outside when it's expected to be bad weather but not so bad!

Lunch for the four of us was in their covered atrium; a large glass enclosed dining room, with sliding doors and curtained ceilings. Very pleasant surroundings, with vineyards and ponds around us. Service was not at all professional.... a very casual and lackadaisical affair. A server presented the menus, and waited for us to order, without giving us a chance to review the menu. We requested that she return, and yet, though they were not busy, it took a very long time before another server came over to take our order, who we had to flag down. When yet a 3rd server then brought our chilled rose ($32/bottle), she poured a taste, and then left, leaving one of us to finish pouring glasses for us all. No chilled decanter, or ice bucket was ever brought, and the chilled wine was left on the table to warm up to room temperature!!! I certainly expected better wine service from a winery!!! Food was very good. Two of us had the chicken salad (small portion of poached chicken), served with quinoa, cos lettuce, feta and sliced carrots & zucchini (courgettes), $18 (see photo). A Grado cheese salad w/ beetroot and nuts ($18), and the lamb Kofta (3 spiced pan fried lamb balls) w/ accompanying hummus and yoghurt ($19.50) for the other two diners. All exclaimed pleasure with their meals. For dessert, we had chocolate espresso puff ($4.50), citron orange tart ($6.50), and the sweet, chocolate orange cake ($6.50). All were devoured with glee. A pleasant enough luncheon with good food and drink amidst a nice environment, except for the sub-standard service.

I wish i could give this place a higher rating but the service is poor and the restaurant lacks organization, what an insult to the winery and chef. It's such a beautiful restaurant yet, the staff is absolutely lacking in bringing the kind of ambiance this winery truly deserves. Perhaps that's the whole goal to sell over priced food with amateur service. The sculpture garden was nothing spectacular and i was not to impressed with the sculptures considering that i am an artist myself. All in all it's not worth the visit or your time considering the horrendous treatment I received from the staff. Go elsewhere! Promise me! You can thank me later!

A group of us came here for our New Years Eve afternoon and kept it classy before we went home to be absolute trashbags. This is a must visit for the setting alone. The restaurant is located at the foot of the sculpture trail and surrounded by a lilypad covered lake. Absolutely beautiful. We had a table on the patio area as the sun poured in and ordered sharing platters (all delish) and drank the Brick Bay Rose which went down far too well. The service was great. A younger girl who was chatty and relaxed and made sure the wine was chilled and flowing. Great spot for a wine or two and some cheeseboards in a somewhat tranquil setting.

Now this place is a little gem, you cannot miss coming here, its an amazing Vineyard to spend some time at and its so wonderfully thought out, you can see a lot of money has been spent here. The lovely wine tasting and dining area is light and bright and it has an amazing feel to it, it looks onto a gorgeous pond and is just so relaxing. So of course you can do some wine tasting here, I think its only about $5 to taste 5 wines and if you buy a bottle then its free. You can also order platters of different sorts and they are very yummy and it won't take you long to eat your way through one. The other highlight of this gem is the sculpture trail, even though I haven't actually done it yet, but I have seen the photos and you get to see some amazing sculptures along the way. Outside there is a lovely big table and little play area next to it and your kids can go and visit the 100 or so lambs. So don't miss this one if you come to Matakana.

We went mid morning so we could walk the sculpture trail before lunch. Really enjoyed it and mid week in winter was like being in our own private garden. A delight. Actually better than lunch but maybe we made poor choices. Shared a wine flight, a pinot gris and 2 reds. I always love trying the wines on their own as well as with food say 5/5. Mr had the chorizo sandwich and declared it a 4/5. I had the lamb burger which came with fries. Bits were nice but I deconstructed it to avoid wearing it and the burger was very dry. Say 3/5.

Unique spot and building in a wonderful area for a day trip away from Auckland. The wines and platters are great for lunch, then follow up with the roughly one hour stroll around the sculpture garden and vineyard. Go with a partner or friends.

food is nice. the trail is very good in the sense that an hour walk will help you digest. the sculpture is unique in the bush. a must seen event for weekends.
