On the Grid : Brick Cafe

"Brick is London meets Lisbon. They are responsible for the boost of brunch culture in the city, and they're still the most iconic. While competition is definitely sprawling now, the café holds its crown confidently, by being the most unique. Besides the usuals eggs, bakery and fruit, mix in some portuguese style octopus salad, cold meats from the Alentejo region and “peixinhos da horta“ — a green bean tempura meaning garden fishes —, and you got an unbeatable recipe." - Nelson Vassalo

I had the smoked Salmon Salad and a flat white. Without any hyperbole, the best Salad I have ever had! A really nice honey vingerette, not too sweet or acidic. A really good portion of salmon and feta within the salad. The flat white was good too. Service was swift without being over bearing. Nice atmosphere and was good to listen to 2000s RnB music. Definitely going to try and come back before I leave for home.

Second visit in 5 days. Great value and good food for breakfast/brunch. The brick brunch is good enough for 2 people!

According to the waiter, there is no way to accommodate my visceral hate for coriander. The cook cannot smash fresh avocado to replace the coriander-ridden guacamole. Or mix and match other dishes to avoid items containing coriander. While I am aware that not liking coriander is a me problem, I have never had issues with staff trying to help me find a meal I like without the evil herb, including in countries like Mexico or India as well as in other parts of Portugal. But not in the Brick Cafe in Lisbon... Oh. And their coffee sucks.

The burgers were fantastic. The patty just melted in your mouth.not oily. Cooked to perfection. Condiments were not overpowering and you could taste the meat.

We tried this spot for breakfast as it was litterally outside our doors and we passed it every day on the way to the city centre. Place was always full of locals, so we were hopeful for genuine Portuguese food experience. Unfortunately the food was very average, bland and lacking in flavour. After one day we didn't even remember we dined at this place, not to mention what did we consume. When asked for bill the server said "ok", left and never came back! We had to ask another person and then received the bill and added tip for their lack of service. All in all disappointment. However, interior is nice, coffee ok and sitting outside cosy to look at life passing by.

The host really gave it a personal touch and they are soooo friendly and generous. I would recommend the toast manon, its not on the menu but available. Its avocado toast with bacon. Besides this we had an amazing time on the terrace in the sun. I had the avocado toast which was soooo good. The chicken and veggie one were also amazing apparently. We had some matchas as well and loved them. Lastly the price quality is just unbelievable. We are definitely coming back when in lisbon 💕☕️🥑

Great service, great atmosphere ! The food is good and you have a wide variety of choices. I had the toast and the eggs with salmon. Although I’m completely full now, both dishes were good! One dish would’ve been enough.

Yelp
Honestly food wasn't good at all or the service . I walked in and it's self seating (totally fine ) however the four ppl that came in after me were sat and waited on immediately and I hate to play the race card but I was the only black person there . When I saw the ppl being waiting on before me I was leaving then that's when they took my order ! Food again was not anything to write home about .

Yelp
This place is a jewel in a neighborhood in Lisboa that most people visiting would miss. We visited this cafe for breakfast and we're blowing away by the delicious taste of their food. We've visited this place twice for breakfast and each time we were impressed by the taste of the eggs with bacon, fresh orange juice, and crispy croissants, did I mention the affordable price( breakfast for three $21 euros)

Yelp
Amazing food, service was amazing! We sat outside the cafe, watched the locals moving about, and waited for our meal...we really enjoyed every morsel.

Yelp
The food was excellent and great price . The only regret that I didn't discover it a few days before I. Can't wait to visit again . Highly recommended .

Yelp
We like this spot for breakfast, we've been coming here every day for a days :) really nice juice, coffee, croissants and service. I now have had a flamenko cheese omelette which is really tasty. Croissants are really yummy too... Good spot :)

Yelp
The food is good but the staff is very rude , screaming at you just because you ask for something they don't have . Bad attitude problem .

Yelp
Where do I start?! This place is a MUST brunch in Lisbon!! We stumbled upon it as we were staying in the neighborhood, and arrived about 15 minutes before brunch started at 11am. The waiter let us know that brunch would be starting soon and was highly recommended. We decided to wait and were seated right away on their quaint patio outside. My husband and I shared the mini brick and the brick brunch. We were brought our coffees right away (very impressed they have soy milk & their latte art was on point!) We chose the juice of the day which was a ginger pineapple- refreshing. Then the food started to arrive. First a whole bread basket with butter, jams and "chocolate salami" (not real salami but some kind of chocolatey dessert that looks like marbles like salami and was delish!) Then our plates...OMG. So many types of fresh cheeses, meats, salad, eggs. The presentation is on point and this breakfast was SO filling, delicious, a really exceptional value, and quite the experience. The staff was so friendly and courteous- they all work together and you can tell they enjoy it. Would recommend this place to ANYone visiting Lisbon!

Yelp
Delicious breakfast. I had the pesto omelette... perfect balance of mozzarella cheese, dried tomatoes and pesto. Also, being as greedy as Americans are (lol) I also had a ham and cheese croissant. The espresso and orange juice was good too. The only thing I didn't like was the attitude of the older woman at the register. I couldn't hear her (as I'm deaf... and they SAW my group signing) and she seemed to have an issue that I asked for a receipt to see what the total was. She kept shrugging and just seemed so uninterested. Learn to smile--it makes a difference. Just to be clear... the waitress that helped us was so kind but the lady at the register just ruined the whole experience for me. I had planned on staying a bit longer to order some pastries while doing some work, but decided to go somewhere I'd feel welcomed (literally a minute away).

Yelp
Really good food and coffee drinks. Highly recommend sitting outside & ordering the iced coffee w condensed milk.

Yelp
I loved my breakfast! Their quiches are heavenly made with some heavenly made cheeses and spinach inside the Phyllo dough, omg... The other quiche is the shredded pork with carrots, no cheese, melted in my mouth like fine chocolates. I'm not surprised by my reactions since Yelp guided me here with 5 big loud red stars. Hub and i walked to here from our place and it is totally worth every hill I climbed. Our server is taken aback I think because we eat like true Americans and seemed a little bothered by our orders of 2 quiches, 2 orders of omelettes with veggies, bacon and chevre, 2 lattes, 2 americanos and bottled water. Not saying anything vocally but I get his facial expressions. Nice gentleman though... He's quick with our requests and very polite. Impressive I say. I think he's shy, honestly. Anyway, I know I'll be walking tons more in the future and will burn every bit I took. This place is a superstar on Yelp you guys. Nuff said! Happy face...

Yelp
This place happened to be near where we were staying and am I glad it was. We had just arrived in Lisbon mid-afternoon on a Sunday. This place was serving brunch and it was amazing. After a short wait (15 minutes), we were seated very tightly (as is everywhere in Lisbon) and were set to order. They did not have menus in English so I just pointed. It turns out the brunch special comes in two sizes and I got the large. It was a smorgasboard of food, including cheeses, smoked salmon, and cured meats. Nothing could be better. All freshly made and presented nicely. The service was great and the staff very accommodating. I check "none" on the cards accepted because they only accept Portugese cards, my Mastercard form the US was worthless to them. There is a small outdoor seating area as well.

Yelp
Great value on a Sunday brunch. We ordered a "Mini Brick" and a "Brick", which seemed to be the only things on the menu on Sunday late morning. The mini version was just smaller portions and a few more items. It was plenty. There was an abundance of cheeses and the meal included coffee (or other hot drink) and juice (or another cold drink). The chips was delicious and the price for the mini was only €6.8. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

Yelp
The menu was perfect for me - simple with only 2 options. The food was delicious! High quality products. I opted for the "brick" breakfast.. make sure you come hungry because it's a lot of food! Amazing value and find.

Yelp
Omelette was exceptional with goat cheese. One of the few places where you can actually get real latte.

Yelp
I LOVED this place! Friend and I stopped in here twice during our two day span in Lisbon as it was close to our Airbnb. Ordered an egg tart and fresh squeezed OJ the first day, and loved both. Friend cited good coffee and also enjoyed her tart. Second morning, I asked if they had toast and jam, and what they brought was a feast of delicious. I'm talking like 8 pieces of crusty, thick cut bread slathered in butter served with a side of yummy strawberry jam. Friend had a pecan pastry but I was too preoccupied with eating what I thought would be a simple slice of toast, but ended up being what I told the man running the counter "best toast ever." He was super friendly and helpful to us despite clearly being tourists, and the regulars of the cafe had a friendly vibe as well. I miss this place already!

Yelp
Cute breakfast spot with indoor/outdoor seating. Had scrambled eggs and a the chicken pie and both were delicious. No wait for a table, but we were here on a Wednesday morning, so not sure what weekends are like.

Yelp
Nice place to have a Sunday brunch! It's always full and unfortunately they have a no reservation policy. So remember to go early! :) It stops serving breakfast at 3 pm so that's a pity. Nevertheless they also have other nice dishes that are always changing. I tried the chicken risotto and it was quite good too.

Yelp
There aren't many true brunch locations in Lisbon, and this is surely a standout. It does offer the same simple cafe options, but then goes beyond with some great egg dishes. Really good good at great prices. The menu is a bit small, but reasonably priced. The mozzarella omelet was the most expensive at around 6€. Also, one of the best (Super buttery) crossiants I've ever had.

Yelp
It was an awesome place! We payed 7€ for this huge breakfast and the waiter just kept bringing stuff in. It was delicious. This place definitely made a good first impression about the local food.

Yelp
Came here on vacation. I had breakfast with a group of 6 people. The wait was at least an hour. We eventually sat down for breakfast and ordered the brick, which you can see pictures of. The food was ok. I remember I ate all the eggs, and some of the meat and green beans fries. I wasn't disappointed. I wasn't really blown away either. Can't speak for the coffee because I don't drink it.

Yelp
Came here for 8am breakfast. 'Eggs with bacon' comes scrambled with bacon, not separate but still good. Bread with jam comes prebuttered but tasty. It's all pretty buttery tbh, prob why its so tasty! so if you don't mind a bit of a cholestoral hit, it's all good! They also have a nice selection of counter food. Had a long espresso/americano, standard. Latte not so good, but that's usually a given. Juice is also freshly squeezed. Would come again.

Yelp
Delicious brunch sandwiches and a great way to start your morning! Nice staff and they also works English!

Yelp
Our hotel had a poor offering for breakfast so thanks to yelp I found Brick Cafe close by! Four of the five days we were in Lisbon we had breakfast here. Fresh juices, espresso beverages, and delicious food (eggs, meats, cheeses, bread, and pastries). Homemade salame which we've learned is a Portuguese specialty was so light yet rich of flavor. The owners were so kind, 100% recommended!!

Yelp
Saturday's "Let's go and drink half of Lisbon's wine reserves" made us crawl into this little cafe for a sunday brunch as we needed greasy food in every shape and form possible. Even though the staff didn't speak much English, hangover face is luckily a globally recognized issue so we were immediately presented with fresh orange juice, water (recovery step 1 - hydration), bread and pastry selection (recovery step 2 - carbs) and a platter of all kinds of cold cuts and eggs ( final step - fat). After we inhaled our food, they brought us some strong coffee with a pat on our shoulders and the bill we paid was extremely reasonable, too.

Yelp
Great spot for getting a healthy bite (like the juice of the day), a sinful indulgence (try the apple pastry) or an omelet or other savory breakfast. Brick has free WiFi, so it's also an ideal spot for posting up in between breakfast and lunch service and knocking out a little work as you sip your latte. On our second visit there, we struck up a conversation with the owner, Nuno, who wrote us down a personalized list of the best places to see public art in Lisbon. Talk about service! One of our favorite Portugal experiences, hands down.

Olga H.

Yelp
The best breakfast in Lisbon in terms of variety, portion size and costs!!! Not too expensive!!! Great interim location in the city, so that you can plan your day from there))) Great service!!! We ate there twice this week and will come back again!!! Highly recommended!!

Yelp
Great cafe with great food. I came here 3 times during my stay in Lisboa. One of the few places that offers different types of milk.

Yelp
We visit our elderly cousin every year and we were so thrilled that Brick opened last year, as we had several fantastic meals. We are back in Lisbon and just finished a lovely brunch. I am happy to say that the food, the service and the ambiance is as wonderful as ever. And BTW, we are from San Francisco, so our expectations are quite high.

Yelp
Amazing pastries, both sweet and savory! Very friendly service, good coffee, and great prices. This was one of our best experiences in Lisbon!

Yelp
Terrific place. Fine food, nice atmosphere. Well appointed (check out that sink). Not a tourist place, though I was a tourist. Delicious pasteis de nata.
