We dined and stayed here recently, and while the location — just minutes from Warkworth — is a definite plus, the accommodation itself could use a refresh. The rooms are spacious enough, but as some reviews have noted, the bathrooms in particular are starting to show their age.
That said, the dining experience was the real highlight. The restaurant has a cosy, almost alpine charm to it — a cross between a classic pub and a ski lodge, complete with timber beams and a roaring fireplace. It’s a warm, inviting space that immediately puts you at ease.
The food was very good. I had the lamb, which was beautifully cooked and pulled apart effortlessly. My partner chose the fish and chips — a generous portion, well-executed. While the lamb was the standout, the accompanying mash and creamed leeks could have used a touch more seasoning and a bit more finesse in presentation.
Overall though, a thoroughly enjoyable meal in a lovely setting. We’d happily return.
