Bridge of Lions

The Bridge of Lions is an iconic St. Augustine landmark and a must-see for anyone visiting the area. The views from the bridge are stunning — you can see the Matanzas River, the historic waterfront and even catch glimpses of boats passing underneath the bridge. Walking across the bridge is a lovely experience, and the design, with its majestic lion statues, makes it feel historic and elegant. Whether you’re photographing it, driving over it or just taking a leisurely stroll nearby, it’s a perfect spot to soak in the charm of St. Augustine. ✨

The Bridge of Lions is a really great bridge to go for a nice walk from the old city to the island. My boy and I did it in about 15 minutes at sunset one evening and I got a few shots of the sunset. I also got a shot of the lion at the end of the bridge. It is a beautiful marble sculpture that sits at the end of the bridge. If you are looking for something chill to do on an evening, I recommend walking across the bridge. If you are lucky it might go up and you can watch the boats go under.

While on vacation I woke up before the sunrise and walked the Bridge of Lions both ways while viewing the sunrise. Parking was free till 10am downtown. Wonderful experience

The bridge has a lot of history and absolutely stunning views of the water, and scenery of St. Augustine.

Very cool drawbridge. We walked across it, had beautiful views of the harbor, and lots of boats were cruising. As we were crossing, the bells went off warning that the bridge was going to raise. So we had to quickly get on the other side of the barrier gates, and then we stood and watched the bridge, go up-and-down. It was pretty cool waiting and watching a couple of large boats go under the bridge while we were on it. St Augustine was a great place to visit, and I'd recommend seeing the bridge as well.

This bridge offers two strikingly different views—one side opens up to vast, shimmering waters, while the other reveals a charming waterfront neighborhood. 🌊🏡 I personally love the latter, where the laid-back atmosphere invites you to slow down and take it all in. At the entrance, a majestic lion statue stands tall, as if silently guarding the city’s rich history and untold stories. 🦁✨ Walking across feels like stepping into a place where past and present intertwine, making it more than just a bridge—it’s a journey.

Amazing Bridge that we had the pleasure of walking across every day of our trip in St. Augustine. Beautiful views of the bay and the downtown area as well as the Castillo, cross, lighthouse, and more!

The bridge opens every 30 minutes. Fun to watch, but it constantly causes traffic congestion towatds old town
