The BYU Museum of Art is one of those places that’s easy to overlook but really worth visiting. I’ve been a few times, and the rotating exhibits keep things fresh and interesting. The space is clean, well organized, and easy to walk through at your own pace. It’s a great spot to spend an hour or two, whether you’re really into art or just curious. I also appreciate that it’s accessible and welcoming to everyone. It’s a quiet, thoughtful break from the usual hustle and a great cultural resource in Provo.

What a beautiful art museum. The Art on display was breathtaking. We caught that particular showing on its closing day. A little secret we learned is that at the front desk they have free post cards of some of the art on display. Luckily they had 2 of my favorites. All you need to do is ask.

We loved the guest exhibition. The whole museum is wonderfully done barring the color on the walls in the soul exhibition downstairs, it made the informational plaques hard to read. I loved the diversity, there are many materials and subject matter to give lots of choices for different people. I can hardly wait to see the two new exhibits they are constructing. My teenage son recommended the museum so that is saying something. They have family activities to go along with the art. The cafe was closed, that was disappointing. It took us around 3 hours to go through it. It is free so great family cultural activity.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed this museum. The pictures of Christ were our favorites, but their pop culture exhibit was fun too. It's not crowded either people-wise or art-wise which makes for a calming experience. Their gift shop is cute and has lots to choose from but feels a little bit cramped. I would highly recommend visiting. Especially since it's free!

Enjoyed the variety and the documentary on Australian Aboriginal Art taught me things I had never learned about their style of Art. And this MoA is free, no tickets required, except at special events.

This is probably the most interesting museum I’ve ever visited! There weren’t many visitors when I arrived, so I was able to take my time navigating the museum. Both entrance and parking is free but you’ll need to enter through one of the campus entrances. The exhibits were eye catching, interesting and educational. I highly recommend!

I edit this post every few months to add photos—check out the most recent!! Definitely a place worth visiting if you are in the area. The presentation (lighting and spacial placement) in this museum was very well done. The pieces themselves were obviously quite stunning and the location was really easy to access. The Spanish Exhibit is going on now! Highly recommend!!

Yelp
We were greeted by my kind staff member which is always nice. There were parts closed off but with what was available to look at, we really enjoyed ourselves. I was worried my youngest would get bored but there's so much to look at that it even kept his attention. I am an artist myself and was in complete awe with many of the pieces.

Yelp
An amazing museum located on a university campus. Ever changing exhibits that are curated well.

Yelp
The BYU Museum of Art is a fantastic museum featuring a world-class collection of artwork and antiquities. I especially loved their recent exhibition of Maynard Dixon, among the finest American artists of the 20th century. The exhibit featured many outstanding paintings from his life and work. We also enjoyed seeing the clever and beautifully designed BYU Registration Department posters by Mac Magleby and Norm Darais.

Yelp
Don't miss this excellent museum! It is FREE, but you can leave a donation to help support it. There are beautiful landscape paintings on display by Maynard Dixon. A special exhibit is on display called, "Primal Forces:Earth" It is comprised of all textile art & designs. It is truly spectacular! There are also beautiful Christian works of art about Christ's life that will take your breath away at the sheer enormity of their size and the accurate rendition of the human form. There are also quite a few sculptures outside the museum that you won't want to miss!

Yelp
Free entrance, free parking, fantastic museum located in the very nice campus of BYU. My boyfriend studied there and keeps getting magazines of what is cooking in campus. So he learned about the Andy Warhol and pop culture exhibit and since we are spending some days in the area, was a must visit. I liked everything. I was expecting a smaller museum but it was bigger and with more content than expected. I learned a lot and the artist in me (I draw and paint almost daily) was super excited to see one of the iconic Marilyns of Warhol for the first time, but also to learn about a local artist that dedicated her life to do huge portraits and depictions of native American life in Utah. Even the very religious focused exhibits are fantastic. When you enter you will feel welcomed by the rainbow of colorful threads hanging from the ceiling. It is amazing work of contemporary art, by a Mexican artist specialized in textiles. Great museum.

Yelp
The MOA is just perfect. It brings the best exhibits, it has some of the most amazing permanent collections, it rotates the exhibit frequently, it is not too crowded, it has plenty of parking, there is always something for everybody's taste, and it is always free. The MOA always has a variety of different art styles from classical oil on canvas to modern multimedia art; and, from Rodin's sculptures to Norman Rockwell's prints. Current temporary exhibits: Tiffany Glass, M. C. Escher, and Nina Katchadourian's Curioser. All three of them are amazing and not to be missed. Curioser was a very pleasant surprise. This was a fun and very clever exhibit combining video and photography. The MOA is a treasure.

Yelp
I've been to exhibits here for decades, from King Tut to Chinese clay warriors to Sacred Gifts to Norman Rockwell to movie costumes to Minerva Teichart Book of Mormon paintings. All are memorable. Their permanent collection of American art is well balanced for themes and time periods. Usually there is plenty of parking to the east of the museum. Their cafe has delicious food but is only open after 2:00 on Fridays. They have lectures, open houses, films and tours to educate you about the exhibits. Their gift shop is one of the best.

Yelp
The BYU Museum of Art is one of my favorite places to go for date night. I love that it is free to go to! They have exhibits that change every few months, and I love seeing what is new. There is a very peaceful feeling in the museum. I always leave feeling uplifted.

Yelp
There are 2 incredible installments right now. First, the Windswept display. Thousands of willow branches molded into spectacular objects. A must see. Second, the Pulitzer Prize Winning photograph collections. Not only will you feel emotional, you will develop a strong sense of reverence. This is a must see.

Yelp
I must say that as a former university student of History of Art and a lover of art museums as a post-grad adult, this museum ranks among one of the best I've ever visited. The University of Kansas's Spencer Museum of Art I believe has a wonderful collection of some French, Italian, and American art but its collections either stayed for short periods of time or the collections themselves were bare. BYU's museum is different. Firstly, the architecture of the building itself is inviting and visually striking. The building blends in nicely overall with campus and doesn't look overly designed as some more modern art museums in bigger cities can be. Inside, the museum was so large that it rivaled some city museums I've been to (Arkansas Arts Center comes to mind). I came primarily to view the Religious Art exhibit and was not disappointed. I spent at least an hour taking in the religious and history paintings from the renaissance era through the mid 19th century. I liked the flow of the rooms (I believe the exhibit moved in chronological order from room to room) and found a good mix of European and American artists. I also have to admit that I was very impressed that an university museum could procure a Rembrandt among other well-known artists. Wrapping this up, the docents and guards were visible without being obtrusive and the rooms were spotless and pretty comfortable temperature-wise. The front desk associates were also very friendly and helpful in directing any questions I had. After spending about 2 hours there I still hadn't even seen all the collections there were to see so I will certainly be back this spring to check out the more permanent collections. Serious bonus points: there is plentiful parking and admission is free. Well done BYU!

Yelp
On a typically hot July day,I spent a pleasant day enjoying its fine sample of devotional theme paintings by European and American Painters.I saw quality paintings by these painters;Abraham Van Dijk("Tobias Leaving Home of Parents",Minor Dutch Master).Franz Ittenbach("Mater Christi",German Nazarene),Ernest Zimmerman("12 Year Old Christ in Temple",German Nazarene),Edward John Poynter("Prodigal Son's Return"(19th English),Frederick Goodall("Flight Into Egypt",Oriental),Gustave Brion("Jesus and Saint Peter In Water"),Minerva Teichert("Miracle of Gulls",Utah-Associated Painter),and Royal Nebeker("Prayer",Contemporary Work),among others. I also appreciated fine paintings by American Painters with secular subject matter, including fine paintings by Raymond Yelland("View of Monterrey Bay"),Edward Redfield("The Valley",New Hope School Impressionism),Edwin Evans("Grainfields",American Impressionism by Utah Painter),Claude Buck("Derelict"),Mahonri Young("Ox Hauling,Danbury Fair"),and Norman Rockwell("Lift Up Their Eyes",New York City Regionalism),among others. There was also a fine temporary exhibit featuring delightful creations by Contemporary Artist,Vic Muniz worthy of accolades. This art museum is free, but donations from the public will help it maintain its high standards.

Yelp
My husband and I visited the Museum of Art while touring the Brigham Young University campus. It's a gem, and absolutely free. The "Windswept" exhibit was great: we had previously seen an installation by Patrick Dougherty at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, so were excited to view his work again. We also loved the "Becoming America" exhibit, the standout pieces of which included portraits by Maynard Dixon and (previously unknown to me) Latter-day Saint artist Minerva Teichert. However, with a doubt, my favorite painting in the museum was the spectacular "Nativity" by Brian Kershisnik. I loved it so much that I made a point of finding out where else his art is housed and seeing more of his works while in Utah. It's certainly not an enormous museum - my husband and I spent somewhat over an hour here - but it's well worth a visit if in the area. I feel it's also worth mentioning that I'm not a Church member, and still thoroughly enjoyed the MOA.

Yelp
We came for the Norman Rockwell exhibition, my 4th visit or so to the museum over the years and I have to say, even after living in Washington D.C. and enjoying the museums there, this MOA holds its own by comparison. Not only are the exhibitions expertly, holistically and meaningfully curated, they are logistically a very lovely user/spectator experience as well. Crowds are managed well, and staff is helpful. The front info desk docents are kind and knowledgable, sharing in excitement of the art on display, and not tired, bored or rude like other museums I've been to. As museum stores go, this one is pretty great. The bathrooms are clean (and I was there on a busy night). The building itself is a lovely work of art and a peaceful, meditative place to sit and take in the sense of space. All in all, I love coming to this museum. Truly the best thing on campus, and in this community.

Yelp
Me and my family love visiting the MOA, especially in the winter when outdoor activities are limited. The only complaint I have is they don't let you carry backpacks into most of the exhibits which was hard with a baby. They often have live music and FREE DESSERT (that's right, everything is free here...). We recently visited and saw the "Windswept" exhibit which was magical. It is a perfect activity for a family outing, date night, etc.!

Yelp
The sacred gift exhibit was wonderful! I'll be back when they rotate the other 4 paintings in.

Yelp
I really love the Sacred Gifts exhibit. Observing the art related to Christ's Atonement has helped me see His sacrifice in a new light.
google avatar

Yelp
It's awesome! It's way affordable, and BYU keeps interesting art constantly circulating through the MOA. If you're in town and you're into art, you'll find something you like.

Yelp
The Sacred Gifts exhibit is amazing!!! If you go make sure to bring an iPad with headphones and the app downloaded in advance or plan to rent an iPad for $3. Make sure to listen to all of the commentaries. When you listen, play the music option first and then pick a commentary. Then the music plays in the background. Also read everything on the walls. There were lots of interesting facts. It's only there until May 10th.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this college art museum. The featured exhibit was Norman Rockwell and they had a good movie presentation followed by two rooms with most of his pieces. They also had a unique exhibit of the rise of Jazz in America. Admission is free and parking is right adjacent to the building.

Yelp
I went to the sacred gift exhibit which was free. Ipad rental was only $3. And the gift shop was reasonably priced. It's beautiful inside and parking is ver easy.

Yelp
Just had an awesome time at the Norman Rockwell exhibit! It is best to get tickets ahead of time online for big exhibits but they usually have standby tickets available and it is free so it even better :-)
