Preamble: When I started planning my Grand Canyon trip 6 months out, Yavapai was my only Canyon hotel option, but by checking the sites daily I moved up to Thunderbird and then lucked out with a Partial View cabin here - so keep the dream alive!
Parking: things got off to a bad start when I hunted desperately for parking, particularly because sunset was less than an hour away and the view from the endless circle of the parking lot is not what this place is known for. I somehow got a space that ended up being perfect but it happened after looping through the parking lots of every rim hotel twice. So just keep that in mind.
Check-In: quick and easy. Amazingly, the desk informed me that the $192 I paid for my cabin was a little overcharged so they offered to either refund the difference or allow me to make a donation to the Grand Canyon Conservancy. I chose the latter because I appreciated the honesty.
The partial view: I was promised a "partial view." We raced to our room (because sundown was now 45 minutes away), opened the door, and were stunned when we saw this "partial view". Maybe it's only called a "full view" if they're pushing the cabin over the rim, who knows, but it was breathtaking. I mean, you still should go out to see the major events, but it's great to have that view available at your beck and call. Like, in the morning it was helpful to stay in our warm room looking out to determine when it would be good to make the venture out. And since my daughter was not as crazy as me about being out in the cold, this was perfect - I was on the rim but she could see everything (and me) within reach if she needed me for something.
The room: We had a queen bed we shared, which is typical with most of the BA rim cabins, but I didn't find the room cramped as reviews have written - I know there's a max capacity of 3 for the room but honestly there's plenty of room to maneuver. There is also a mini-fridge, a nice bath that felt really good after an active day on and below the rim, and a wonderful push button fireplace that you can even run on a timer - we went to sleep with the flames warming the room. And we had coffee in the room, but curiously it was Keurig which surprised me since they seem very environmentally aware otherwise. Maybe they know something about k-cups that I don't.
Summary: So parking is crazy but everything else was perfect. I must say - I'm a budget hotel traveler and this was the most I've paid to stay anywhere in years (and even so this is still the cheapest place on the rim itself). But looking at that view would I say it's worth $192? Absolutely! And for that I'm going to go ahead and say it's a 5-star review - I'm going to apply that credit to the parking comment.
