I had the most wonderful birthday experience at Bright Black in Durham! From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed into a warm, creative, and inspiring space. The perfume-making class was not only fun but also deeply engaging. The instructors guided us through the art and science of fragrance in a way that felt both approachable and meaningful, blending culture, storytelling, and creativity into every step. I loved being able to explore different scent notes, experiment with combinations, and ultimately create a fragrance that felt personal and unique. What stood out most was the intentionality behind the class — it wasn’t just about making perfume, but about connecting scent with memory, identity, and artistry. The space itself is beautiful, thoughtfully curated, and filled with good energy. I walked away with not only my own custom perfume but also a deeper appreciation for the artistry behind fragrance-making. Highly recommend this experience for anyone looking for something special, creative, and memorable to do in Durham. Bright Black is truly a gem! 🌿✨

Bright Black. has some of the most amazing candles! They have a wonderful range of scents, which makes it easy to find something you like! The candles make the whole house smell fantastic. They are also perfect for client gifts - either a full-size candle or a scent discovery set to get them started. If you are local, shopping online and picking up is easy. Plus, they are constantly supporting the community - I'm currently burning the Pauli candle in support of the Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice. Tiffany is also a wonderful person and we are lucky to have her in Durham!

This was truly an incredible experience. I went there with my family this past weekend to create our own scents. We had such a wonderful time, Khayla was extremely helpful and super patient with us. She gave us the backstory on how the business started and how each oil scent and candle scent has a story. The vibe was amazing, the music matched the mood. I look forward to going again, creating new scents and purchasing candles. If you love candles, body oils and a good vibe I’d suggest trying this experience.

I visited Bright Black with a group of friends on their drop in day on Saturday. It was such an inviting and welcoming experience. I like fragrance or more importantly, I know what I don’t like so to be immersed in an experience with fragrance experts and not feel overwhelmed was a great time. We worked with Sacha who was very honest about our blends, gave good feedback, and was a good source of encouragement. You have the ability to create 3 different versions of your scent and choose what most feels like you. You can also save your scent for future use. I liked that added benefit. I am always curious as to how brands like these manage to keep their momentum as it sometimes feels like something you do once but I would definitely come again to create other products. They offer candles too as well as you can purchase premade scents. Definitely a must visit for a date night, girls night out, or just a relaxing end to a stressful day!

I love Bright Black, and feel incredibly fortunate to live next door to Durham, NC where the store is located. From the incredible range of meaningful, beautiful candles to the experience of creating my own scents in the Bright Black store on weekends, I find owner Tiffany and the whole Bright Black team to be a local treasure. I have probably bought 10 full size candles or more over the past few years, and will continue to add new candles to my growing collection. Thank you for doing what you do, Bright Black! Grateful you exist, especially in this fraught time.

Really enjoyed making my own perfume with natural ingredients. The owners and staff are friendly and very welcoming whether you black, white or brown. Congratulations on 6th anniversary.

Bright Black candles have the be the BEST candles that we’ve ever purchased! They crackle like a fire place, which is so dreamy. And the scents are so unique. You can tell that special care is taken to create each and every candle. Everything from the wooden wick, to the container, to the lasting shelf life, I can’t say enough 😍 Love Love Love them and their story!

It's been some time ago I visited Bright Black for the grand opening. The store is very nice with beautiful artwork. The staff here is kind and welcoming. I purchased the "Durham" candle. Durham is a blend of tobacco, cotton, and whiskey. These ingredients in the candle smell amazing together. I've enjoyed my candle. I hope to make my way back for more. I find Bright Black candles providing great value for the unique handcrafted candles.
