I don’t think Google reviews allow enough characters to sufficiently sing the praises of Bright Black. First of all, their candles smell amazing. They burn super clean and the scent is so nice. It quickly fills a room and every product I’ve tried has been a win. I gifted their candles last year to my whole management team and everyone loved them. Also, I attended one of their workshops and I got to learn about storytelling through scent and design a custom body fragrance! It was such a cool experience. Highly recommend checking that out as well. This small biz loves and supports the Durham community and we love and support them back. 💙

This small business owned by Tiffany & husband is tucked away in a location well known to the locals.The creator lab is unique-inviting- artsy - inspires the senses - I sat down to one of the tables while she brought different delightful notes of fragrances for me to sample.The samples were not overwhelming but invited me to a sense of well being - a positive vibe plus making me smell good to my own self. The art work on the walls carefully placed for enjoyment of the customers- clean lines -aesthetically appealing to the eye- each item meticulously placed on shelves as I looked around.My final product was the fragrance oil with the notes I chose curated my her husband placed in a travel friendly roller vial -a few more purchases - a special gift with purchase - a large heavy candle in a glass container with a lid. I left a very satisfied customer.

The space itself is beautiful, thoughtfully curated, and filled with good energy. I walked away with not only my own custom perfume but also a deeper appreciation for the artistry behind fragrance-making. Bright Black. has some of the most amazing candles! They have a wonderful range of scents, which makes it easy to find something you like! The candles make the whole house smell fantastic. They are also perfect for client gifts - either a full-size candle or a scent discovery set to get them started. If you are local, shopping online and picking up is easy. Plus, they are constantly supporting the community - I'm currently burning the Pauli candle in support of the Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice. Tiffany is also a wonderful person and we are lucky to have her in Durham!

This was truly an incredible experience. I went there with my family this past weekend to create our own scents. We had such a wonderful time, Khayla was extremely helpful and super patient with us. She gave us the backstory on how the business started and how each oil scent and candle scent has a story. The vibe was amazing, the music matched the mood. I look forward to going again, creating new scents and purchasing candles. If you love candles, body oils and a good vibe I’d suggest trying this experience.

One of the most beautiful, talented, and community-oriented businesses in Durham. Bright Black has the BEST quality candles I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying. The packaging is gorgeous, they burn beautifully, and the smells are absolutely divine. Beyond that, Bright Black goes out of their way to support the community with fundraisers, toy drives, gifting to local organizers, and utilizing their platform to spread mutual aid and important news. I will ALWAYS shop Bright Black for my candle needs!

What a treasure in Lakewood! I love giving these beautiful candles for gifts, they even have one named “Durham” which is a hit with my guests traveling from other areas. The shop itself is gorgeous and peaceful. They have drop-in “crafting” on Saturdays and Sundays, one day to make candles, another to make your own perfumes. Such a fun idea for a gathering of friends or a small party, you can bring beverages and snacks. If you are a crafty B like me, you can also check out the yarn/sewing store next door and Scrap exchange - make a day of it!

Bright Black is on another level. I’ve never seen candles capture the soul of music the way they do. Their rock and hip-hop collections are incredible — the scents hit you the way a great track does, layered, bold, and full of attitude. These aren’t basic candles; they’re experiences. Every burn feels like you’re stepping into a whole mood, a whole era. The quality is top-tier, the design is sharp, and the storytelling behind each scent is what really sets them apart. You can tell there’s intention and culture poured into every jar. Easily my favorite candle brand — and the only one I buy now. Highly recommend.

It's been some time ago I visited Bright Black for the grand opening. The store is very nice with beautiful artwork. The staff here is kind and welcoming. I purchased the "Durham" candle. Durham is a blend of tobacco, cotton, and whiskey. These ingredients in the candle smell amazing together. I've enjoyed my candle. I hope to make my way back for more. I find Bright Black candles providing great value for the unique handcrafted candles.
