We were heading somewhere else to eat, particularly paninis, when we saw the menu sign at the entrance of this bakery. The sign said paninis -- we were hooked and lured into the cafe. The hours were before lunch time, and we have been walking around in the rain, so we were ready to eat something that will fill our stomachs up.
Behind the counter, there is a larger menu, that lists the food, the longer menu on the side had the coffee drinks, and the small one near the pastry had today's special. That day, one of the two soups were French onion, so we ordered the combo version (this one comes with a grilled cheese sandwich). We also ordered the BLTA sandwich and the caprese panini. For drinks we ordered a latte and a cappuccino.
We decided to eat inside because there were more space on the lefthand side of the room, so we received a number and sat down. The wait didn't feel too long; we chatted away about one conversation topic and then the food arrived all at once.
The BLTA and the panini dishes came with a salad, dressed with a vinaigrette type of dressing. Also, each of the sandwiches were conveniently sliced in half. Three of the sandwiches had different bread, and the grilled cheese sandwich was sandwiched in the brioche buns. It's unique from the typical grilled cheese sandwich I have ever tried, and this tasted really great with the French onion soup. The brioche bun absorbed the soup very well.
The French onion soup was nice and savory, and also not salty either. I have eaten a few onion soups, but this one stands out as delicious, top 3 even.
The BLTA sandwich had many thick layers of bacon, so rich and I would say the heftiest one out of the three sandwiches.
The panini was my most favorite because that was exactly what I was craving for. It was soft and crispy on the outside and the mozzarella cheese and tomato were sweet and juicy. Sometimes the basil sauce comes out as very decadent, but it was nicely done in this panini. In addition, this sandwich was the lightest, so if I were to eat this alone I might have ordered an extra pastry.
Overall, it was a really great food experience, where we entered whimsically, and I would like to visit here again.
