Brisa Barra Hotel

I rarely make reviews; however, I feel this hotel def deserves to get good feedback! I travel all around the world on business so I’m very used to staying many hotel settings including many prestigious 5 star hotels. Although some of the facilities may be a bit tired, these issues rapidly disappeared into insignificant ‘issues’. It’s never the facility that qualifies a place as being particularly memorable or ‘5 star’, rather, it’s the staff’s attentive care that qualifies them as a special place! The manager, the desk staff, the cleaning staff, and restaurant staff were truly 5 star in my eyes! You’ve nailed it and can’t tell you how much I appreciated your care during my stay! From your warm smiles and seemingly simple gestures such as remembering my name are the things patrons will always remember. Well done and I would highly recommend anyone staying in Rio for business to here because you will feel at home away from home! Thank you!! 👏👏👏

Pleasant hotel, in a very safe area; comfortable; very good service and excellent view from the balcony. Would come back.||I suggest though, that the hotel pool be isolated from the hotel entrance view, to make it private for the guests. This issue did not make me use of it.

It's in a very good location, and the staff is super friendly. We'd definitely be back in the future. The pool is amazing, too.

The hotel location was perfect for my fiBraziltime here I will definitely be back great service and beautiful people 👍 the women were very beautiful and I married 200 of them in my head God really did his best artwork here in Brazil thank you God.

The service and staff are very friendly and helpful. Food is ok. Not exceptional, but good. Breakfast is excellent! Many options. It is more a 3-star hotel than a 4-star, as stated. There are other options for better hotels a few steps away from this. I asked for the option of late check-out, and they wanted to charge me over R$400 for a few extra hours. The front desk staff said it is 50% of the daily rate, but at Decolar, you find the daily rate at R$ 410. Also, the room needs significant improvement and repair. Cleaning also needs improvement. The smell was not good coming from the bathroom! Next time, I might check other options in the neighbourhood.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good. Front view to the beach is a dream. They should renovate the rooms, signs of mold in the bathroom and humidity smell in the room. Balcony sliding door was not closing properly.|Rooms needs to be updated

Cheaper option that ended up being way more expensive. If you enjoy suffering in a 3rd world country this is definitely the hotel for you. I’ve stayed in Rio many times in the past as my family is from there. I’ve stayed at Novotel a few times and at Laghetto other times. Both hotels are infinitely better that Barra Brisa and only marginally more expensive. We booked two rooms at Barra Brisa and paid in advance at the hotel’s request. Within the first night the A/C broke and although staff lied to us about its progress being fixed, it remained broke for six consecutive days. Try swinging that in a country where temperatures coast around 88-92 degrees at night. The city of Rio was also dealing with a dengue epidemic so sleeping with the windows open was not really an option. On top of that they had power outages every day that last on average 6-10 hours at a time EVERY SINGLE DAY AND NIGHT. That means no wi fi, no TV, no lights, and no elevator (which really sucked because my grandmother couldn’t leave her room in the fourth floor in her condition). The staff’s attitude was dismissive and rude often. You would think we stole something by the way they answered our requests. And if you think that was just our opinion you should speak to some of the other guests. We heard so many guests from Argentina, Ecuador, Australia, and the US all complain daily in frustration saying they would never come back to that hotel. The worst part is that the hotel would not return anyone’s money. All of us wanted to leave and go to a different hotel, but the manager wasn’t allowing anyone to get a refund and said things would get better every day. For six days straight. My father was having a really touch time sleeping in the extreme heat so I ended up booking an additional room for him as an emergency measure and we ended up having to pay an additional $1200 to book a room for him at Novotel (to which the service was impeccable as usual). After we left the hotel we began negotiating our refund and even though we suffered in the heat for 6 days straight with no power and AC or decent sleeping conditions they only agree to refund one room which we never used because my grandmother had to be removed after the first day because of the heat and risk of having a stroke. No hotel is perfect but if you are in the area of Barra in Rio, do yourself a huge favor and book a room at LaGhetto or Novotel. They may cost 5% more but will save you so much trouble in the process. Oh yeah, one last thing… The beds at Barra Brisa are super tiny and short. They’re made for 8 year old children. The beds at the other hotels were standard queen and king sized.

When you walk in, everyone is dressed to the nines. They try very hard to be polite and helpful. The lobby, halls are clean and breakfast buffet is good. Dinners I had were really good also. Because of other buildings pool gets very little sun. Hot tub does not work or heat up well. The maintenance, especially in the room, is not kept up as well. I had several corners coming loose and a black powdery substance or ants coming out. Paint blistering on the ceilings looks like they had some mildew starting to come through. Maid never even entered my room for the entire four days. When I asked, I was told she was supposed to do floors, change out towels, and do bath. The gentlemen were extremely polite, although even with Google, they could not communicate well. There was one "Lorran" who was extremely helpful. Overall, with the beautiful views, I gave a 3/5 stars due to maintenance, maid, and beds.
