First time at British Bankers Club for me was with Mom on Saturday, July 31, 2021. Mom had been here several times before with others, so she introduced me to the restaurant on one of their weekly Saturday Lobster Nights.
Venue: Mom was able to reserve a table for us at the rooftop, the coveted dining area these days for which one must book a spot weeks in advance, I heard. During the summer, I understand the popularity of dining al fresco at the top floor, but in all honesty, the view of neighbouring office buildings isn't very exciting. I don't recall if there were heat lamps up there, but I probably would have enjoyed to sit nearby one as it became chilly up there pretty quickly. The seated counter bar is probably a cool place to eat, drink, and be merry.
Food: I kicked off my lobster meal with a PURE PLAY (refreshing NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE) and the Lobster Bisque, which was nicely topped with lobster relish. I was initially shocked by the first and second tastes from my bowl - it was COLD. I have never before been served an intended hot soup that was so low in temperature. My replacement bowl was piping hot, a major improvement from its predecessor. Mom started off with the BBC Salad. Unfortunately, she, too, had to send back her fappetizer because the greens were limp and wilted. The second salad was much fresher looking and served with the dressing on the side (The kitchen suspected that the dressing was the culprit behind the unappetizing look of her first plate). For our ENTREES, we both had the Whole 1 1/2 Pound Fresh Maine Lobster, Grilled. I enjoyed the smoky flavour of the grilled lobster, but agreed with Mom - 1 1/2 pound lobsters are small. For DESSERT, we shared a Strawberry Shortcake which looked better than it tasted - the baked butter biscuit was disappointingly not soft nor fluffy, it was tough and not great in flavour.
Service: Our server was a little on the forgetful side; however, Mom applauded his efforts in rectifying the matters of our appetizers. She was so impressed by his customer service that she made it a point to verbally commend him.
Not a bad first impression of BBC. I will likely return. Hopefully they will serve bigger lobsters by then.
