The wait was long, like many other reviews mentioned, but our waiter seemed to be doing their best. Overall, the food was decent but nothing extraordinary. The complimentary crab cakes we got for the delay ended up being the highlight of our meal, so I would recommend those.

Sat outside for a bit before our waiter came out. He apologized, and said that they were short staff. He got our drinks and meals in fast and we enjoyed our meal. The seafood pasta was great and sauce was light and tasty. Fish and chips was a hit as well.

We decided to make our first visit to Broad Arrow to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary and had the best lunch ever. We had oven roasted muscles, grilled scallops, and duck breast. Be sure to dip your bread in the muscle broth, it is addictive. Everything was prepared to perfection and the side dish was as delicious as the main. Dessert was a blueberry and peach crisp that was to die for. I honestly can't say that I've had a better meal. The decor is rustic outdoors which is perfect for Maine. The tavern has a fireplace in the middle of the room and a wood-fired oven in the kitchen making the atmosphere delightful. Our server was friendly and attentive considering we came in at the tail end of a busy lunch crowd. I will definitely visit again the next time I'm headed to LL Bean down the street.

Delicious, pleasant atmosphere and nice service. Would look forward to a weekend visit in Scarborough, just from a taste of the area in this gem.

Fantastic food and top torch service. The steak I had was perfectly cooked and the lobster roll was excellently crafted. To find the restarant you can park in the hotel’s lot, enter in the back doors, head up the stairs, take a left and walk down the hallway next to the front desk. A bit complicated, but that’s because the restarant itself is inside the hotel. Overall we had an excellent meal.

Google
Celeste was a great server! The garden area outside is nice. The lobster rolls we were served should have never left the kitchen. Microwaved? Stored overnight and re-heated? I don’t know how it would dry out so fast as to be chewy and crunchy at the same time. We each took a bite and then regretted immediately. The restaurant did not charge.

Google
The restaurant is in The Harraseeket Inn which is a very nice older hotel with unique architecture. The food was very good. My friend had the whole lobster. It was our last night in town so she had eaten lobster 4 other days but said this was by far the freshest & best tasting. We also really enjoyed the blueberry pie. We parked behind the Inn where there was a lot of parking. There may have been parking on the side too.

Google
Fantastic restaurant with local ambiance and flavor. I had the lobster fettuccine and it was amazing! My wife had the whole maine lobster and loved it! We started with the crab cakes and those were very good as well. Pretty busy place and the service was great!

Yelp
Well me start out with this, I looked at the yelp reviews before going here and I was getting nervous they were like one like for the last three months. Upon trying this place with my wife my sister-in-law and brother-in-law, we were greeted nicely by the hostess and sat down. We had an energetic server, and she was the best suggestion things. I started out with a pork belly appetizer, it was fabulous. My wife got a salad she liked it very much and my sister-in-law and brother-in-law split a baked brie and they loved it. I got a smash burger with french fries it was very good my wife got the salmon and she loved it. My sister-in-law got the steak and my brother-in-law got the Haddock it was plenty of food and it was great. I don't know why they get a bad wrap sorry the buffet is no longer here nobody's doing buffets anymore it's a nice menu it's not overwhelming it's a one page menu with plenty of selections . The drinks were fine I got a bloody Mary which was great my wife got a glass of white wine she liked it my brother-in-law got a sour beer in my sister-in-law got like a Bud Light. I talked to them about their review and they said there was nothing wrong with their food there was nothing wrong with the restaurant it was kind of busy and I like that so the ambience is I don't know open kitchen so you can see everything Chef did a great job The ambience was great. I am very sorry they got a bad wrap on the last four yelp reviews I don't know if it's a disgruntled employee or somebody that's been going there for 38 years and can't deal with change but it was fine and I'd go there again thank you

Yelp
We hadn't been here in a while so last August (2023) we took relatives to the Broad Arrow Tavern for dinner. This was shortly after the new owners took over, an out-of-state corporation. The Harraseeket Inn was family owned for decades. We noticed the portions were smaller and the prices higher plus the best things were taken off the menu, namely their wonderful wood-fired pizzas. This dinner that included a haddock sandwich was just fair. My husband and I decided to see if there had been any improvements so we went there this week for dinner. I'm sorry to report it hasn't gotten any better. My husband got the chicken shawarma sandwich on naan for $15 that included fries, which were very good. The all dark meat chicken was dry and obviously overcooked, probably long before the dinner hour. When we brought that to the attention of the waitress, she offered to bring more lemon tzatziki (which was very heavy with garlic) which she did. She didn't offer to take it back to the kitchen. Sorry to say, a thick sauce isn't going to save dry chicken. The funny thing was she recommended the sandwich and said she had one herself and the chicken was very juicy. Hmmmm. I got the chilled quinoa bowl for $19. Now why this should have cost more than the chicken sandwich, I don't know. I wish the tavern had offered a protein with it like chicken, steak or shrimp. (They used to offer that for all of their salads...in the "old" days.) The roasted vegetables on top were ok. I wasn't thrilled with the large pieces of roasted roma tomatoes, but the others were fine. The quinoa was soaked with what the menu said was pico de gallo. All in all, kind of boring and expensive. There were 3 wait staffers and one of them was also the bartender. We noticed while we were waiting for our food that two plates came up from the grill ready to go out to a table that sat under the warming lights for about 10 minutes. We thought that was pretty strange. Sad to say we don't plan to go back, at least as long as this corporation runs the tavern and doesn't care enough about the quality of their food.

Yelp
We went to the Tavern with a large group, too large in my mind for trying to eat and talk, but the martini was great and so was the food! It was a bit noisy, but again, we were able to chat w/those near us. I enjoyed a really fresh and perfectly cooked piece of haddock with fries - fish and chips, even better with a bit of lemon and a wonderful remoulade! Wayne enjoyed a caesar and the crispy calamari - which we billed as an appetizer portion but was huge! Delicious. It was noisy, and busy, but Carlos, our server, was great. We assumed that the person who scheduled the event had let him know that there were separate checks, and when there weren't - Carlos was great about taking care of it.

James S.

Yelp
Meh. We stopped in for lunch while passing through town. When we entered the hostess was a bit gruff and they weren't busy. Our waitress was nice but not very attentive. Our food arrived fairly quick and it was fine but nothing impressive, especially considering the price. Based on the service, food and price, I don't need to return.

Yelp
As locals, this has been a favorite place for really special dining. The menu featured fresh produce, seafood and meats from nearby farms and fishermen and wood fired pizzas. The menu offered a wide variety of options, served attractively and the preparation was flavorful and delicious ! Tonight my husband and I took a guest there, after raving about various dishes. We were so sorry to see the new menu. The number of offerings was greatly reduced. I had been looking forward to scallops wrapped in bacon all day. My husband planned on the lobster bisque. Neither was on the menu. The clam chowder, which we used to love, was mediocre. The menu didn't offer anything out of the ordinary and was limited and only average. We ended up with a burger, a pastrami sandwich, and fish and chips. We could get those anywhere in a 5 mile radius. The wood fire oven was lit, but no pizza was on the menu. Such a disappointment. For 24 years we have enjoyed our experiences at the Broad Arrow. I doubt if we'll go back. I always try to be positive and have never been moved to leave anything less than a four star review. This review expresses our surprise and unhappiness with our experience tonight. Bring back the old menu and chef!

Lynn E.

Yelp
Bring back the former menu before new ownership!!! We're local and miss this place so much. What a disappointment.

Yelp
We visit the Broad Arrow on a regular basis, more during football season. I usually sit at the small bar if there are seats available, (wish it was bigger). I'm a Budweiser drinker-$4.63 for a bottle and it's always nice and cold. A Maine Beer Company Lunch will run you $9.26 and that's the going rate for this type of beer. I've had a few good meals when seating in the dining space but at the bar I usually just get an appetizer like the chicken wings-$16. They are nice and crispy and you get a decent amount. A little pricey but the Broad Arrow is an upscale type of place attached to the upscale Harraseeket Inn. Usually a nice crowd, depending on the time and the service is always fast and friendly. If you are coming to Freeport then the Broad Arrow is the best place to visit for lunch or dinner.

Jo-Ann H T.

Yelp
First rate in all categories. Buffet is not to be missed. Greenville without going to Greenville.

Rene C.

Yelp
Decided to take advantage of the great weather and go for a walk in the Freeport area and have lunch at the Broad Arrow restaurant located in the Harraseeket Inn. I started off with a starter order of clam cakes which were great. I ordered the Blackened Fish Tacos with Sweet Potato Fries. The tacos were fantastic and came with blackened haddock, corn and salsa wrapped in a corn tortilla. The side of sweet potatoes were thin, perfectly fried and were full of flavor. My wife ordered a grilled haddock sandwich. She added a Cobb salad for a $4 surcharge. The sandwich was excellent as was the salad. She also ordered a cup of Lobster Stew which was creamy and full of lobster. So, if you are ever in the Freeport area the Broad Arrow is a must place to visit.

Dianne A.

Yelp
You can understand why this tavern is always crowded for lunch. The hotel is homey with fire places blazing. The staff is so friendly, it's like taking a step back in time. My Basil Hayden Manhattan was superb!! I had the clam chowder and Caesar Salad which both never disappoint! The dessert disappeared so quickly, I didn't have a chance to take a picture. Just picture this in your mind - a double chocolate cookie with maple ice cream! Amazing!! While we certainly miss the lunch buffet, we are never disappointed ordering off the menu!!

Eugene G.

Yelp
Stopped in for early dinner. Started with bourbon and a rich clam chowder. The chowda was superb, full of clams, potatoes with the right touch of bacon and onion in a thick creamy base. Then we moved on to fish a chips with Cole slaw. Two large pieces of perfectly breaded and fried cod. The chips were double fried so they had a crisp exterior with a soft hot center. On a cold wet Friday afternoon the broad arrow tavern at the harraseeket inn in Freeport really hit the spot

Barbara P.

Yelp
Had a great dinner tonight--quinoa salad and then the burger with sweet potato fries. Very tasty. Super busy because of an LL Bean concert, but the bartender was attentive and almost super-human. Highly recommend. My experience was the opposite of some of the recent reviews.

Rose M.

Yelp
What a hidden gem located downtown Freeport. Part of the hotel and honestly you could walk on by but thanks to Yelp, we discovered greatness. Indoor or outdoor seating. The menu was compact but offered a wonderful variety. They have a wood fire oven and cook there own rotisserie chicken. We had lunch although I really wanted the lobster fettuccine but I wasn't hungry enough. The pizzas were delicious. You can order small or large. Small was great for me and I had left overs. My daughter had the lobster roll and said it was delicious. She knows her lobster rolls. It came with a choice of fries and I think the sweet potatoes fries were the best I ever had. Crispy on the outside, soft inside with that right amount of crunch and just a touch of salt. So yummy!!! I am definitely coming back here for more!!!

Scott C.

Yelp
Two things I hate. Tourist trap restaurants and hotel restaurants. (Oh and maybe any restaurant that allows little kids) We are staying in the hotel after dropping our daughter off at UMAINE. Didn't want to eat here but started raining so thought we'd stay for a drink. I'll get to the food but I won't let it trump the service or people working here. A wedding party had overstayed their welcome and was taking up the whole bar with empty drinks and with bills paid. Staff saw us waiting for better part of an hour and kept giving us options before someone finally gestured the party towards another part of the hotel. They were all so nice and professional. Ok now the food. Tuna Tartar. On point. Lobster stew 10/10 and Caesar with lobster off the charts. Please visit on Friday nights because obviously this is the A Team. (I'm sure on other nights as well). And I'm an awful food snob and hate 9.5 out of most restaurants. Bravo.

Yelp
This was one of my favorite stops in Maine. Their clam chowder used to be amazing. I've never had a bad meal there...until now. The Broad Arrow Tavern, apparently in response to the hotel being sold to a hotel conglomerate, has changed the menu significantly. I was just here a few months ago, and it was still great. Several items are no longer available and the flavor has been removed from others. The clam chowder, a former can't miss item, has a new formulation and it's not good. The new chowder (I've omitted the word clam because I can no longer detect the ingredient) is bland and flavorless. The hush puppy placed on top was interesting, but I would've preferred clams. The Finn and Haddie was terrible. I did not get the crispy herb salad that was described on the menu, just a piece of cod over a flavorless mush with a few deep fried artichoke hearts. I am extremely disappointed in what they've done to this fine restaurant. In a matter of a few months, they've removed items and reformulated others, none of the change I saw was for the better. To end on a positive note, the gin and tonic was good.

Mary H.

Yelp
We have been to Broad Arrow Tavern many times and always enjoyed our experience there but this time we were very disappointed. The menu is very limited and did not have the items to which we looked forward- lobster rolls and lobster stew. Among the offerings was haddock chowder, which we had had before. This time the chowder was thin and did not contain much haddock. Fish and chips were good but a smaller portion of fish than we had had before. Smash burger was good but one of our party had falafel and thought they were hard and overcooked. Our server was very friendly and attentive. There were only 3 other parties in the whole restaurant at lunchtime. The new owners need to revise their menu and bring back some old favorites. We would not be likely to return unless the menu changes.

Larry S.

Yelp
If you like watery lobster bisque with a fair amount of knuckle meat from a lobster that has very little flavour, you might want to try this dish , but I wouldn't recommend it. What was the most surprising part of our dinner was the lobster rolls. Imagine getting about 2 oz of lobster meat on a hot dog bun with some french fries and a very small serving of cold slaw for only $36 each, 5 of them cost me $180 which is the price of about 3 lbs of lobster meat and much more than the $20 - $25 average price of a lobster roll at other restaurants in the area The menu said that they came with drawn butter but they didn't. The atmosphere in the restaurant was not cold but maybe lukewarm and the service was mediocre at best. Personal opinion is that the restaurant has gone downhill over the last couple of years. In the past, my wife and I loved staying at the Harraseeket Inn and eating at the tavern as well as dining in the main dining room always enjoying quality food, fair prices, and first class service. Today's tavern meal was one of the most disappointing eating experiences I've had in a long time. The prices for the quantity and quality of what you are served as well as the mediocre service leaves much to be desired. One additional thing, there was an error in our reservation time and I called the restaurant to correct the time. The first time I called I was advised that the staff was helping other people and they would be with me as soon as possible. I hung up after 6 min. I called back and got the same recording but this time I hung up after about 4 min. I always had the belief that the 3rd time is the charm (if you're older you probably remember that phrase) but I found that the 3rd time has nothing to do with the first 2 times as I held for over 3 min before I hung up. My 4th call, rather calling the restaurant to correct our seating time, I called to the front desk of the Inn. Wow! What a difference. They transferred me to the tavern and, lo and behold, they were no longer too busy to pick up the phone. I would recommend that you research this area and find a restaurant that will give you the dining experience that you are looking for at a price that you can be happy with and stay away from this one.

Joshua B.

Yelp
Stopped by very spur of the moment after a day shopping when the kids started getting hangry. Great experience. Little "nicer" than we'd anticipated but we weren't out of place in shorts. Mix of families and older couples in the dining room. Food was great. Waitress was phenomenal. She brought oyster crackers and crayons out for the littles and surprised them with ice cream at the end of the meal. We'll be back next time we're in town!

Jillian H.

Yelp
This is a must for locals or tourists! The food is made with incredible ingredients and quality! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming! Wish they still had the buffet but with Covid it is understandable they had to go with menu only.

Mike S.

Yelp
With signage saying they were open until 9:00pm, with seating stopping at 8:30, we were told they decided to changed the hours and to stop seating at 7:30. It was 7:33pm. Lots has changed here...beware...

Mark C.

Yelp
This place has been a long time fave for over 20 years until now. Last night, having to choose the least of a very limited few evils on the new and horribly mutilated menu, I took a chance on the Finn & Haddie. A piece of gelatinous cod over runny mashed potatoes smothered in what they claim was bechamel but could easily have been Waffle House sausage gravy. There might have been a vague whiff of thyme, perhaps leftover in the pan from the previous chef's reign, but that was the only hint of flavor in the meal. The fried artichoke hearts were the highlight, but when I asked the waitress where the salad mentioned on the menu was, she first said I was wrong, there was no salad included, then got flustered when I showed her where it said "crispy herb salad", checked with the line cook whom said they were out of it. Early on the first night of the new, limited menu they were out of part of one of the more expensive menu items? Unbelievable! Our server was pleasant, but LOUD!!! She even apologized and brought us a free basket of bread (the high point of the meal!) when she realized after we'd been waiting 20 minutes that she'd forgotten to drop our order. She also brought me a free tossed salad w/ some marginal bleu dressing to compensate for the missing herb salad. Sorry folks, the new owners, GIRI Hotel Management, are stepping all over a very successful history and tradition and smothering it with crap. They have accomplished the exact same thing at the formerly great Sebasco Harbor Resort, which they also recently acquired and is now suffering from similar reviews. Time to move on and not look back!

Alicia E.

Yelp
I'm not even sure I would give this place two stars other than some of the food I had was decent. Let's start with the service again. Seems like we're there and they don't like kids so they seem inconvenienced by them. Got the chicken wings one night and the lady who took her to go order was super rude and was questioning everything. We were asking and seemed upset that we ordered at 8:00 but they close at 9:00. Then the next night we wouldn't eat there. I would not recommend the children's chicken tenders. They are very tough and crunchy with very little meat on them. My son enjoyed the cheeseburger. I enjoyed my chicken sandwich but I would have enjoyed something else better. Had there been anything better on the menu. My mom enjoyed her fish sandwich but once again it just didn't seem like it was that great for as busy as it was.

Linda J.

Yelp
I was looking forward to lunch with a friend because the ambiance is very welcoming. The service was mediocre. I ordered a salad that looked like absolutely had zero thought of putting it together, the toppings were minimal. My friend ordered a fish sandwich that was cold. I am local and really wanted this to be on my list of recommendations. Sorry that is not happening!

Lisa G.

Yelp
A Freeport gem inside the Harraseeket Inn. Food was delicious, one of the best fish and chips I have ever eaten. Cute atmosphere. Wasn't crowded despite the town bustling in prime vacations season

Jim S.

Yelp
Came here a couple times a year. Was a favorite. Now everything interesting has been taken off the menu, the stuff we ordered was bland. Service was so-so. Price way up. Let's stop using the pandemic as a reason to let a place completely go down hill. I think most people are tolerant of some rebuilding pains, but not this.

Carolyn A.

Yelp
Call me sentimental, but I love the Broad Arrow Tavern in the Harraseeket Inn. It's tucked away in a cozy room down a corridor from the Inns front door. Or follow the signs from the street side. The walls are lined with hunting trophies. The table under the huge moose head is actually my favorite. Local beers on tap, straightforward wine selection, and usually a special seasonal cocktails or two. Order carefully and the food won't disappoint. But don't get too creative. The chowder is great. But here is the secret- just hold out for dessert. Or just eat dessert. Hot pie with ice cream, traditional fruit crisps, other delicious things. Service can be spotty, especially in the summer. But for a cozy bite in the winter, head on in.

Andrea R.

Yelp
Our waiter was fine. He was the only thing that was. Food was mediocre to poor. Steak ordered medium rare was RAW AND INEDIBLE, and that was after a very long wait for our dinners. And the place was almost empty! Will never return.

James B.

Yelp
Terrible excuse for a burger for $19 . Nothing much on the menu. Place has gone downhill recently . Less than half full at dinner time.

Denise K.

Yelp
We used to love going here. The shot gun shell little lights and moose head on the wall it felt so quaint and so Maine-ish. Not so anymore. All the decor has been removed and now it seems so cold. The menu is also so different. I ordered New England clam chowder and this spiral uncooked onion garnish was all over the top. What the heck?? Broad arrow used to have the best chowdah!!I They were also out of Caesar salad so I ordered the fish sandwich. It was OK. I won't be going back. Sad really because this used to be one of our favorites in Freeport.

Bud O.

Yelp
Under new ownership. We have been coming here for years one of our go to places and the food has always been amazing fresh worth the price. We were surprised to see such a small menu and prices were high. The waitress said we had a fire so we can't cook. Then she told us the place was sold to new owner. We ordered the fish chowder a cup was 11 dollars. It was celery, onion and leek in a thick gravy like stew I found 2 pieces of fish the size of a dime. It came out warm. The fish and chips was very expensive for a lunch my husband hated the tarter sauce as it tasted of pure dill and was green in color. Not sure we will ever go back. The bill came to over $100. The price did not match the quality. Good Luck to the new owners!

Charles M.

Yelp
We stop here whenever we're in the Freeport area. On our way to Acadia this past weekend we stopped for lunch. I usually know what I'm going to eat, except when I go to the Tavern. I've had the best meat lovers pizza previously, as well as amazing burgers! I got the mac 'n cheese this time. The special was with pulled pork, but I asked if I could substitute bacon instead, they obliged. I couldn't believe how much bacon they gave me! My wife enjoyed her baked haddock sandwich, and our son enjoyed his pizza. We were satisfied, savoring our meal all the way to Acadia. This place is fantastic, and the staff is amazing.

Derek A.

Yelp
We've been coming to Broad Arrow Tavern for years on our yearly visit to Freeport. I grew up in Maine and always enjoyed this restaurant for lunch. Today's lunch was a major disappointment, however. The menu had shrunk considerably. No wood-fired pizza. Worse were the serving sizes. My son and wife ordered the Grilled Caesar salad with blackened haddock - $22. What they got was 3 pieces of grilled lettuce and half a filet of haddock - not more than 3oz. My daughter and I got the blackened haddock sandwich and the story was the same - no more than a 3-4oz piece of haddock on the sandwich. The meals weren't bad, but the serving sizes were shocking given the price. When I went back to our cottage, my father informed me that the Broad Arrow Tavern was under a new owner and it then all made sense. Mainers know that you don't skimp on serving sizes and you don't change what isn't broken.

Melissa H.

Yelp
Broadarrow tavern has been a favorite of ours and our kids for a few years. Loved the Haddock tacos and GF calamari. The burgers and wood fired pizza very good as well. This time we stopped for lunch and everything has changed. Much smaller menu and our favorites all gone. No more pizza or tacos or lobster meals or calamari. Staff told us they have a new chef and he wiped the menu clean and introduced his own. The atmosphere has changed a bit too but luckily the service was still good. Sadly we will not be going back to the BAT because there is nothing there we are interested in eating and nothing our kids would eat either. So sad because I used to recommend Broadarrow to everyone. Looks like Linda Beans or Tuscan Bistro when we are in town from now on

Diane S.

Yelp
We have been customers for decades and always enjoyed the cozy ambiance and delicious food. Yesterday we stopped for lunch. Paper placemats are gone; most of the Maine decor is gone. The dining room has lost all character. The menu was printed on a wrinkled piece of copy paper and had very little to offer. No wood-fired pizza, no fish tacos. Unimaginative menu. Haddock sandwiches were oily, French fries were dry and tasteless. Fortunately, the service was still good but everything has really gone down hill. We won't be back.

Mark M.

Yelp
Tavern in an old time inn. Rustic atmosphere including fireplace, moose heads, old style snow shoes, etc. Beef dishes, seafood, chowder, etc. as you would expect in a New England tavern. Local brews and mixed drinks also available. Food is fresh, tender and delicious. Portions are generous and prices are fair, especially for downtown Freeport.

Emily W.

Yelp
So sad to see such a place with so much potential be such a disappointment. Having lived in the area now for almost 5 years the food has not improved. Just this evening we thought we'd give the tavern another go; we ordered something very simple and it was almost inedible. We tried.

Howard B.

Yelp
Used to love it, but the decor was simplified and modernized, and much of the charm was sacrificed to become more modern. Maybe that was part of the reason we liked the place so much. We miss the paper placemats about Maine history. We miss the taxidermy (okay, maybe it was time for that to do). The lighting was bright so the place was no longer intimate or clubby. How about the food? It was fine, but it seemed a bit more modern, too. Good to very good, and maybe the roast chicken was as good as it was in the past, but it didn't quite feel that way. We'll come back, but BAT is no longer at the very top of our list. Sorry...

Cheryl C.

Yelp
What happened to the charming, warm, delicious destination we've all loved for years. The new menu that was being debuted last night is disappointing and obviously being presented by someone that has no sense of Maine favorites. The Tavern has always been a place you could go for a comforting meal of lobster stew, traditional chowder, the beauty of the chickens spinning on the spit and the delicious wood fired pizzas. Seriously, who serves a lobster roll in Maine on a brioche roll with tarragon aioli and bibb lettuce? Some things are sacred and not meant to be changed, especially in Maine! New choices were always presented to add a twist and accepted as such but the Tavern staples we love and counted on being erased in one swipe is depressing and certainly not what we were hoping or expecting in the new ownership transition. Hopefully you're just testing the waters and will receive reviews that lead you back to the Tavern we all love otherwise, I wish you luck as you transform our favorite 5 star Freeport destination of over 20 years into a one star diner don't forget there are other choices in town including McDonalds which is right across the street.

Sophie B.

Yelp
Quality food from local sources. They seem to do a great job of adding an original twist to their creations. Mussels app: very original sauce with toasted hazelnuts in drawn butter. Delicious. The bread is made in house, thick cut with excellent texture. Very fresh tasting. Lobster: I mean it's a Maine Lobster. Can't go wrong there! Halibut&Scallops Special: three 1.5 inch cubes of halibut perfectly cooked. Two large scallops, again perfectly cooked. On a mushrooms risotto with celery and carrots. Not my favorite risotto seemed a bit watery and undercooked in my opinion. It also comes in a perod sauce which I felt was an overwhelming flavor but if you get it on the side you can regulate how much of that flavor you get.

Elizabeth E.

Yelp
My friend wanted a lobster roll - her first. A local suggested we go to Broad Arrow Tavern, partly due to the atmosphere. It was a cold day so having lunch by the fireplace was nice. The waitress was wonderful! Friendly, knowledgeable about the area and the food! The lobster soup was full of large chunks of lobster- a real plus but the broth was rather blah. My friend enjoyed her lobster roll and sweet potatoes fries. I had the corn tortilla tacos blackened, haddock with shredded cabbage, pickled onions, jalapeño, and herbed aioli. I did not love the pickled onions so next time I would ask to leave them off. The herbed aioli had a strong herb favor. It was good, just different than I expected. The French fries were very good. I was in Maine house hunting. The waitress saw the papers on the table & asked where I was looking. I told her I was still exploring the different towns & some details I was looking for in the town. I ended up visiting a town where she suggested & I bought a house! I with I had her name to thank her.

Yelp
Amazing service! the BEST wood fired pizza I have had in a very long time. Come for the pizza, stay for the blueberry pie. You will NOT be disappointed! Billy took great care of us!

Yelp
We visited today anticipating the Buffet we'd enjoyed in the past. Upon being seated, we were told they no longer offer the Buffet, even tho it appears on their web page. In fact, we showed the wait staff Broad Arrow's web were the Buffet was touted. As we had been seated, we ordered off the limited menu. In the end, the food wasn't anything special. Two of us ordered burgers that were over-cooked, the tomato slice wasn't fresh. None of the plates lived up to previous visits and they certainly were overpriced for so-so ingredients. I've since learned the business was bought out by GIRI Management, an out of state holding. We won't be back.

Yelp
I've been making annual trips to Freeport w/ family for years and have always included the Broad Arrow Tavern. This may be the last visit we make. They changed the menu and no longer offer pizza...even though there's a big wood fire stove in the kitchen. This time we came later in the evening & had to wait a few minutes for someone to come to the host station. We were seated quickly and the waiter was nice. There's a new menu, with less offerings and higher prices. The menu also doesn't list out what all comes on the food. I got the chicken shawarma and it came w/ tomatoes. It didn't list there would be tomatoes, otherwise I'd have asked not to have them, as I don't like them. I got the blueberry pie. The first time I'd gotten it, it was filled w/ blueberries. This time, it was few & far between. Just disappointed all around, honestly. Also, if you have allergies to anything, just double what you're getting doesn't have a "no" food.

Yelp
Have been going to the Broad Arrow for 25 years plus. Had the best atmosphere and a consistent menu with very good food. Usually have to wait to get in. First sign should have been few cars in parking lot, then only a few people in tavern. Then all new wait staff and a new menu. The whole place has been remodeled taking away nearly all the Maine outdoor decor that made it what it was. Why would anyone take a fabulously successful operation and gut it? Will never go there again and since I work in Freeport will no longer recommend this place to others.

Yelp
The tavern no longer serves tavern food! The once valued staple comfort foods have been replaced by the new chef's favorites. The lobster roll was excellent but warm romaine lettuce on a Caesar? The lobster bisque had a watery consistency. Service was excellent but for the sake of a chef trying to make his mark, they've gutted the character of a once consistent go-to place. Head south to Portland for many better alternatives.

Yelp
End of an era:-( With so many people supporting and enjoying this restaurant over the decades, it is incredibly disappointing that the new chef and owners have completely turned their backs on loyal customers. People DO come to Maine for lobster, and YES, tradition is important to us. The current menu indicates a complete lack of respect for legions of followers. It's easy to say that people have trouble with change, but it's not that simple. Frankly, that answer is not true here. We did try the new dishes...mushy chicken on potato and a fried fish bun. Simple lobster roll with butter...NO MORE. One couple left when they learned that they could not order a simple lobster dinner. Yes, you can get strawberry shortcake, but not with fresh fruit. The delicious bread is gone...but at least there is lobster stew on the special menu. It's not too late to compromise and combine new ideas with a 'classics' menu.

Yelp
The world's greatest blueberry pie. A must if you are in the area at the beautiful Harraseeket Inn. Great staff, excellent dining options.

Yelp
The ambience and service was on point. The clam chowder was one of the best I had in a very long time, the Lobster was so fresh that it was almost sweet and absolutely delicious, the chicken was cooked to perfection and pretty tasty. The cookie was good but it was a sugar cookie more than double chocolate as it was listed in the dessert menu...overall it was an excellent experience and meal...I will definitely recommend it and come back

Yelp
Went Monday evening. Won't be back. Place had lost all its charm. Menu was greatly reduced. Food was OK but not memorable. Bro in laws chair was broken and he had to replace it. The women's drinks (cosmos) had very little alcohol in them, not like before, and were replaced with wine. Waiter was not very nice bordering on rude. You have lost 4 locals that used to go there fairly often. Maybe that's point, just remember , it's the locals that keep you open year round. Just so you know, I'm 71 and proud of it. And this is my first review of a restaurant. Take the for what it's worth.
