Jamu: The growing popularity of Indonesia's herbal medicine - SilverKris

"A dramatic volcanic peak rising to 2,239 metres that offers one of Java’s most celebrated sunrises; visitors typically make a pre-dawn trek by jeep or on foot (or ride across the stark plain) to reach the crater, then climb a flight of roughly 250 steps to the rim where a constant plume of sulphur issues from the thunderous vent. The site is a major draw for travellers seeking stark landscapes, horseback excursions across the sea-like plain and spectacular dawn views." - Lynn Gail

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is an absolute must-see for nature lovers! Whether you're a seasoned hiker or just want to soak in incredible scenery, this park has it all. The hike to those breathtaking views is manageable for all skill levels, but if walking isn't your preference, you can always enjoy a scenic horseback ride up the slopes. For an extra thrill, don't miss the 4x4 tours; they're an exhilarating way to explore the rugged terrain and discover new, stunning vistas. No matter how you choose to explore, Bromo Tengger Semeru guarantees an unforgettable adventure.

The sunrise is definitely worth it from the viewpoints. The crater and other things in the caldera are ok, but once seen there's not much point on going back. The viewpoints I'd do over and over for sunrise 😁

Visiting Mount Bromo is truly one of the highlights of any trip to East Java. The journey usually starts before dawn, and although waking up at 2 or 3 AM sounds tough, it is absolutely worth it. Standing at the viewpoint as the first light of day spreads across the horizon is an unforgettable sight. Watching the sun rise behind Mount Semeru while the sea of clouds drifts around Bromo’s smoking crater feels like stepping into another world. After sunrise, the adventure continues with a jeep ride across the dramatic “Sea of Sand,” before climbing the stairs to the rim of Bromo itself. The walk up is short but intense, with volcanic smoke rising from the crater—a reminder of the power of nature. The panoramic views from the top are simply breathtaking. What makes the experience even more special is the atmosphere created by the local Tenggerese people. Their culture and rituals add depth to the visit, reminding you that this volcano is not just a natural wonder but also a sacred place. Practical tip: bring warm clothes, as the morning air can be freezing cold, and wear comfortable shoes since there’s some hiking involved. Overall, Mount Bromo offers a perfect mix of adventure, culture, and stunning landscapes. It’s one of those rare places that makes you feel small in the best possible way, and I would recommend it to anyone traveling in Indonesia.

A very interesting day tour with plenty of scenic viewpoints and a moderately challenging hike to the summit. The hardest part might not be the 267 steps themselves, but actually getting to them. The elevation is only about 140 meters, but much of the route is dusty. While the views are beautiful, several areas need attention from the Park’s management: better garbage collection, repairing broken fences at the top, and allowing 4x4 access closer to the site (while still ensuring fair income for the horse owners). These issues are the reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5.

Went to Bromo in the afternoon through "the secret passway".(Entrance behind Cemara Indra Hotel) They charge foreigners 220.000 idr just to enter the Bromo area, ridiculous. If you simply walk through the "secret path you pay nothing and have way more adventure!Almost no other tourist, they all went in the early morning. Fantastic experience

Absolutely stunning place! Sunrise at King Kong Hill, the Sea of Sand, and hiking to Bromo’s crater were unforgettable. Well-organized and truly one of East Java’s highlights. Dress warm and go early. A must-visit for nature lovers and adventurers!

Beautiful scenery. Advise to come here after 10am to avoid the sunrise crowd. Wear sunscreen if you plan to come later morning / afternoon. Even though the weather is cooling, you can get sun burn if you are not properly clothed

I went there yesterday, it was cool! The view is amazing and unbelievable. The hike is about 500ish steps from the place where horses are, i ride the horses going back down, it was cool but definitely broke my back. The stairs you have to climb is around 250 from the spot to start going up ths staircase. The view is just amazing, but your feet must get ready since it’s a bit tiring. Overall what an experience, 8.8/10
