Ask a Local: The Perfect Weekend in Sydney, According to Artist Gabrielle Penfold | Condé Nast Traveler

"Bronte Pool is particularly special. 'It’s built into the south side of the cliff, and there’s all this beautiful sandstone behind it and tranquil sapphire water. In the morning the orangeness of the sun's rays hit the sandstone, and it’s a golden little pocket. It’s so beautiful, you can’t believe it. I love studying the swimmers’ movements.'"

9 of the most underrated, non-touristy things to do in Sydney - SilverKris

"One of the coast’s oldest sea baths, founded in 1887, that provides a historic ocean-side swimming experience with exposed views of crashing waves and classic seaside atmosphere." - Rachel Eva Lim

5 rock pools worth a visit in New South Wales - SilverKris

"In the picturesque, slightly more low-key beach suburb of Bronte, the pool is one of the oldest on the coast—a charmingly irregular shape carved into the cliff face in 1887—and it makes for a relaxing place to swim and linger, especially at sunrise." - Imogen Eveson

Loved everything about this place. 6am sunrise swim was amazing. Beautiful stunning location. Enjoyed the waves crashing up the sides, watching the surfers, the water was fresh and clean. I’d go here everyday if I lived nearby. Highly recommend!

This iconic rock pool is a must-visit for anyone who loves swimming. It’s a popular spot for locals, and I thoroughly enjoyed my morning swim as the sun rose. I highly recommend it.

Less people and smaller than Bondi, but free. It’s a little muddy in the pool, I got tangled by some long hair on my face a few time. Pool is 30m length, about 150-180cm deep.

Although not as crowded as Bondi, Bronte is still a large and busy beach. It was one of the beaches where we spent the most time. Like many other beaches, it has rock-carved pools that were thoughtfully designed years ago and add to the experience. However, what we enjoyed the most was the thrill of surfing in its lively waves.

This place is better than the Bondi Beach pool in many reasons

Love ❤️ Bronte Beach Baths Enclosed swimming pool as well as natural swimming area with shallow water suitable for children as well as adults, toilet and shower facilities are also available. The beach and the surrounding area is very nice. The bogey hole sometimes might be a bit rough depending on the the conditions!!! I still remember the great times I had here as a child. Great spot for 👪 families ,today the water was dirty and conditions rough.🏖️ Review of Bronte Beach & Construction Update Bronte Beach remains one of Sydney's most beautiful and cherished coastal spots, but the atmosphere has been significantly impacted by two major events: the collapse of a section of the northern cliff face and the ongoing redevelopment of the Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC). 🌊 The North Cliff Collapse: What Happened The northern end of Bronte Beach has been the site of a dramatic natural event that now requires major remediation work. The Incident: On or around Friday, August 1, 2025, a section of the sandstone cliff on the north side, reportedly about 20 meters long and 6 meters wide, collapsed onto the beach below. The Cause: Initial investigations and geological expert opinions strongly suggest the collapse was due to a combination of factors: Heavy Rainfall: Continuous and heavy rain in the weeks leading up to the incident is thought to have saturated the sandstone, weakening the rock and increasing pressure until it gave way. Natural Erosion: Sandstone cliffs are naturally prone to fracturing and erosion from wind and wave action over time, which was likely accelerated by the water. The Damage: The massive rockfall damaged a stormwater drain (or culvert) and a safety rail located beneath the cliff face. It also took out part of a frequently used staircase for beach access. Safety Note: Fortunately, no injuries were reported, likely because the heavy rain meant fewer people were in the immediate area at the time. The site is currently an exclusion zone as a geotechnical assessment is reviewed to guide safe remediation works. 🏗️ Construction & Redevelopment Review Separate from the cliff remediation, the historic Bronte Surf Life Saving Club and Community Facilities are undergoing a significant upgrade.

A truly beautiful part of the Sydney coast beaches where locals gather for their morning walk, swim or leisure activities. A must for any visitor to Sydney…..busses operate to the beach and after the beach effort endless cafes are provided to enjoy that serve up every dish you can dream of….make sure if swimming on the beach to STAY between the flags…..the rips in the sea can be very dangerous…..enjoy

A fun place to soak in the sun and take some nice photos. Paradise water and a cool man made pool that connects to the ocean. The crowd here was teenagers most were here hanging out in the pool. Some of them jumped from the high rocks into the pool. Definitely cool to see but there was barbed wire at the top where the kids were jumping so I have a feeling the authorities aren’t fans of this activity.

Yelp
Growing up in Bronte in the 1950's & 60's I spent a lot of time in Bronte Baths (Rock Pool). Since then my children & grandchildren have also enjoyed the pool. It was always clean with various different areas to suit each persons needs, including a shallow area for small children. Throughout my life I have been to many pools but still rate Bronte as my favorite. The Bogey Hole next to it is also great for kiddies at low tide as well as a safer alternative for swimmers when the surf is too rough.
