Yelp
Discovered this little gem that isn't quite so little about 7 years ago I was changing life cycles and figuring out life on my own. At the time Brooklyn itself really became an enclave that was helping to heal after one of my greatest time of loss. It's not that I hadn't previously known it was existed, I just didn't realize how exclusive most of the content was and how special it would become to me. While BAM Rose does show some mainstream films their selection is carefully curated to its audience. For the most part this is the only theater in BK that you'll see films from the African and Caribbean Film festivals or series. Twice a year, patrons flock from near and far to binge for 3-7 days on some of the best films created by people of color from all across the globe. It's incredibly special to have the opportunity to see films I might not have otherwise hadn't they been showed at BAM. When I had the opportunity to secure a membership through the IDCNY program, I jumped. It allows me the opportunity to see exclusive content, attend members only events and network...an absolute joy. For my most recent visit, over 4 days I submerged myself into films created by the Caribbean Diaspora. Rich in content and culture they questioned and challenged everything from faith to family, religion, sexuality and everything in between. The location is clean, welcoming and staff is always accessible to answer questions or address concerns. There are enough bathrooms to deter lengthy waits and the concession stands will cater to your snack/ sweet tooth habits. No complaints here.

Yelp
A wonderful place to see a live performance or show or in my experiences, many foreign movies that the big chain theaters never show . Near Atlantic and Flatbush Ave , near public transits or a easy drive from Manhattan , queens , etc. No bad seat inside theater , good sound acoustic and large screens means you will have a enjoyable visit . Lobby is spacious , restrooms are clean and cafe has good drinks and snacks . The folks who operated Bam Rose cinemas do a wonderful job bringing unique international movies to Brooklyn and educate the theater quests on the movies background. 4.5 stars on my yelp meter.

Yelp
No food besides popcorn and candy. Service is sort of apathetic, but I don't blame them. I used to work in a movie theater so I get it. Ambiance is great. They show some really wonderful cinema.

Yelp
It was my first time at this theater, and I came here just to go see Conan. It was well worth it to come to Brooklyn to see him. There are a few bathrooms throughout the place, but it is hard to locate. Had to ask multiple people for directions. They also serve beverages from what I saw when I walked in as I saw lines. There's also merchandise, but I didn't check that out, so I'm not sure what they sell in detail. I think they also have a movie theater in the same place. I didn't see that part since I went to see a live performance. All in all, it felt like a Broadway show theater from the ambiance and seating choices. I would go back.

Yelp
I was using the restroom and 3 men was having an orgy in the stall. Told security and they told me to mine by own business.

Yelp
A great place to watch movies-- went here months ago now for the first time to watch Poor Things. I'm not a huge fan of AMC-like theatres so this was a great venue for a showing. The building is historic but modern and clean inside and is a nice reminder of one of the perks of living in the city!

Yelp
Rat infested mess. Was cornered in bathroom by a giant rat. Air conditioning was broken and place was so stuffy I wanted to pass out. Very low budget place.

Yelp
Old school so don't expect the best seats or too much room in between. Screen quality is good. Nice break from the modern world lol
google avatar

Yelp
Ambiance doesn't make up for old seats, aisles so narrow you're spooning the person in front of you, and having to fight for a good seat like this is a Black Friday sale in 2005. In the year of our lord 2023, we should be able to pre-select our seats, not scavenge for them like some sort of post-apocalyptic entertainment.

Yelp
Went to a movie at BAM Rose Cinemas on Monday evening. A decent theater, which is nicer than the chains while less distracting than the full-service dining theaters. Quality: The selection of movies will be closer to arthouse, along with the occasional classic. A nice place to see a movie if you are still looking to enjoy a drink, but don't want to deal with the chaos of waiters constantly walking between seats. Expect a calm and quiet crowd, with just the munching of popcorn. Quantity: Lesser known theater, but many seats. Value: $16 for General Admission. $7.50 for a Large Popcorn. Ambiance: BAM Rose Cinemas are part of the large BAM campus in Downtown Brooklyn. They only have a few theaters, but they are quite large. Food can be ordered from the concession stand downstairs, including wine and beer. The seats are old, but very clean. I was actually shocked at how dark the theater got. No reclining seats and the rows have minimal depth, so avoid sitting directly behind someone. Crowd: Went for an early evening showing and the theater was maybe twenty percent full. Service: Friendly staff and very clean theater. Parking: Tough parking in the area, garages are expensive.

Yelp
4/5 because I don't think I'll ever be able to give a 5 to a non-recliner seat theatre at this point - but aside from that, this theatre is great. It's beautiful and retains its old charm, has far better than average seats for a non-recliner theatre, and consistently has a great selection of both mainstream and indie films. The popcorn here is delicious, too. I do wish they served icees.

Yelp
Went after work. I didn't know they had a movie theater at BAM but it was cute and great after work thing to do in my community.

Yelp
Best movie theater hands down.. I'm not talking in Brooklyn but all of NYC. Everything about this theater is on point: from its landmark status to the eclectic movies, or works of art, that they present. The building is elegant with its high ceilings and lovely architecture inside and out. A lot has changed at the Peter J. Sharpe building:,I remember the orange cushioned seating that welcomed you when you entered. The convenient kiosks that you utilize to avoid the lines for ticket purchasing. Alas, both are gone replaced by mobile phone ticketing and such. What hasn't changed is the courteous and top notch staff that works at BAM. I always encounter smiling faces and warm greetings. The concession stand carries fresh and delicious popcorn. I also love the framed posters that adorn the wall. It's great to see Cary Grant winking at us as we enter Cinema Paradise. There is a ticket booth to purchase tickets for BAMs special events and theater presentations. I've also discovered this lovely waiting room with comfy sofas: one can sit and gather with friends until your movie starts. I've recently become a BAM member. Check online for all the discounts one can enjoy with BAM membership. Pre or post movie there are wonderful eateries near BAM. I highly recommend Baba Cool for delicious coffee, Atlantic Social a sports bar with delicious wings, 67 Burger for yummy turkey burgers and Emmys for great pizza near Fulton Mall. See you at the movies!

Yelp
I will have to begin by saying that this is really a 3.5 star review rounded up because the employees are friendly and helpful. What I love about this theater is their selection of interesting and artistic films (though as others have pointed out, they might want to rotate them more often), their matinee and members ticket discounts, their better than average concessions stand and the building itself which is far more interesting than the chain theaters. What I do not love here are the uncomfortable seats and lack of leg room. So while I appreciate the classic theater look, I'd appreciate a more comfortable seat more!

Yelp
As a proud BAM Member, I have been taking full advantage of my BAM Membership. I have had the pleasure of seeing many movies (at half price) so far which included Don Cheadle's spectacular performance as Miles Davis in Miles Ahead, Sally Field's recent movie Hello, My name Is Doris as well as Oscar nominated short films and animated films. The highlight was being able to watch the Black Panthers Documentary that was shown on the same day as the Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration held at BAM. Everytime I walk into the BAM Cinema I take a moment to enjoy the ambiance in the lobby. Inside of the Cinema is a cute snack/refreshment area. They serve some of the buttery and freshest popcorn that I have ever tasted! The upstairs and downatairs theaters are both clean and neat. In my opinion, the movie theater seats are comfortable. This is my favorite place to go to see films!

Yelp
Attended Andy Borowitz event last Saturday. Loved the easy access to LIRR. Nice looking theater. However, the Mezzanie seats are so close together that my knees were aching after 45 minutes and I am only 5'2". For this reason I will not return to an event there.

Yelp
I've been a movie nerd since I was a kid. My dad would always watch horror/thriller movies and he would always ask, "who did it?". I was trained to figure out the culprit in every film. And I haven't found my spots to watch movies in NY. That being said, I've been wanting to go to BAM Rose Cinemas in my quest for my favorite NY theater. When BAM announced their Witches' Brew series highlighting films like Hocus Pocus, Häxan, Witches, the Craft (a fave) and Suspiria, I was ecstatic. Suspiria was the must in my book. Most of the films I watched a million times. Suspiria is a classic, horror, Italian film and definitely one of many Dario Argento's masterpieces. This film is a must in a theater atmosphere. The evening showing was sold out almost instantly. It would have to be a matinee. I actually do enjoy matinees especially rainy Sunday afternoons. This was a chilly Saturday afternoon but good enough. The matinee prices are also only $10. A steal when it comes to NY. 15 minutes ahead of the movie and it was already packed. The show sold out. I loved the intimate space. There was also free buttons for the Witches Brew event with the wicked protagonists. The film was stunning, eerie, beautiful and truly brilliant. People found so many scenes funny. The dialogue is on the campy/kitschy side but that only adds to the masterpiece in my book. I forgot my favorite thermos and had to ride allllll the way back. And they had it waiting for me right at check in. I can not wait to see even more movies here!

Yelp
Came here on a lazy Saturday afternoon to see a movie - can't believe I've never been here before - it's awesome! For some reason I had this idea that they only showed indie movies and foreign films so I never thought to come here, but they also play select major motion pictures. All shows are $15 for adults, but it is half price if you are a member, which is really an incredible deal. I was able to become a member with my NYC ID for free. The theaters are small and have pretty standard chairs, nothing fancy. It is incredibly clean and well maintained though so it was one of the most relaxing and pleasant movies I've been to. The BAM building itself is also very beautiful and it's a very classy place to see a movie. This would be the ideal spot for a movie date. They also have a limited concession stand with basic popcorn and drinks.

Yelp
Purchased two tickets for the special, one night only showing of "Fantastic Fungi". After the long train commute to BK, my friend and I were so excited to arrive, despite the rain and lengths to get here. Everything went down hill once we opened the door to the theatre. We were faced with a packed room, with no seats left!! Over selling tickets is not cool, especially for a screening that is only happening for one night. Only positive is that I was able to get a refund.

Yelp
I'm proud and honored to write a review for BAM. I've been a member for three years now and I have enjoyed the benefits of my membership immensely. It goes without saying, BAM and all it's local sister sites add to the cultural beauty of Brooklyn and the community. I've seen many movies, plays and special performance at BAM. I feel BAM and it's amazing staff keep getting better and better. In the past few months, I've participated in an annual BAM membership appreciation gala and two movie screenings. It's a wonderful thing to live in the neighborhood and know BAM exist. BAM is surrounded by many other great cultural center but I find BAM to be very unique in their programs and offerings. It also helps that with your membership, you are offered access to special events first. It's also nice to get first dibs on special concerts, shows and discounted movies. I can't say enough good things about BAM as I will continue to be an active and enthusiastic member.
google avatar

Jeannette L.

Yelp
I've gone to BAM only a few times, but I've never been disappointed with any of the performances I've seen here. The programming is always fantastic and culturally/artistically relevant. It's an amazing venue and that is part of the fabric of NYC culture. I saw Kid Koala here for Nufonia Must Fall, and the show was amazing. The venue had wonderful acoustics. The seats were uncomfortable, but the beer I bought at the concession helped. Important note: You cannot take bottles that you buy from the concession inside the theatre, but you can purchase a BAM cup, pour your bottle drink it, and then take that onto the theatre during a performance.
google avatar

Deirdre L.

Yelp
Always enjoy going to BAM and sitting in the historic theater. It is very comfortable and so worth it to try the IDNYC membership & then renew.
google avatar

Kevin W.

Yelp
I caught the recent Robert Plant show here at BAM and I was impressed by the venue. The seats are comfortable, the viewing angles are excellent and I really like the overall cozy feel of the place. The acoustics are also excellent and sound quality is solid. It's also very easy to get here if you live in Manhattan, thanks to its proximity to the Barclays center. Bathrooms, like many other venues, can get pretty congested. But that's just one minor blemish. Otherwise, this is definitely a great choice if you're looking to catch your favorite artist or orchestra play in town.

Yelp
This review is for BAM Rose Cinemas. To say the least, very disappointed with the protocol for their selling of tickets. I commuted a lengthy distance for a movie to be turned away because "there were no more seats available in the theater" despite purchasing tickets ahead of time. I was severely disappointed to find that out that the theater sets aside an certain amount of tickets for BAM Members (since they are free for members) so even if you buy tickets in advance...a BAM member will likely to take your spot in the theater. There needs to be a better protocol for online ticket sales. If I was able to purchase a ticket online, they should have a better idea of how many tickets they can set aside for members versus non-members. Although we got our refund, I don't think this is a fair way to treat those who are not members with BAM. I will never go back here for a movie...ever again. Extremely disappointing.
google avatar

Michelle J.

Yelp
So I went with my friend to this theatre and I have to say I was disappointed. First, the movie ticket was $15 if you aren't a member of BAM. The theatre needs to be updated, the seats were uncomfortable, the screen resolution was not great. They don't ever have to worry about me coming back there to see a movie. Comparing the them to other theaters I recently went to for less, this place is awful and has no value.
google avatar

Lissette C.

Yelp
This is an incredible theater, WOW. I went to see Malpaso Dance Company (highly recommend if they tour here again) and was very pleased with the view from my seats. I paid $30 for first row balcony seats and had one of the best views. It was a dance show so I definitely appreciated being up above. The theater itself has a very cool vintage vibe and the seats all have some sort of elevation to help you have a clear view regardless of who's sitting in front of you. You should definitely catch a show here.
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
I'd come back. It reminded me of how movie theaters used to be. Popcorn, seating, it was definitely refreshing to know there are places like this that still exist -- especially in New York.
google avatar

Michael K.

Yelp
BAM Rose Cinemas is a very cozy theater with comfortable seats, quality projection and audio and, most importantly, a great selection of creative, entertaining and educational films. I saw Boyhood and Eights Grade here. The best seats in the house are in the middle, not unlike most theaters, however due to the short and wide layout there are not as many available. At least this was true for the screens I experienced. There's a ton of great things to do and places to eat in the area so it's not hard to call this a destination cinema.

Yelp
What an awesome theater! So many of the theaters in Brooklyn are pretty gross and not managed very well. BAM Rose Cinemas is clean and offers a lot of comfort while you view you film. I've actually only been here twice but I will keep coming back! All I really have to say is get here early! We arrived at 1:40 for a 2pm show and it was already sold out. Granted it was a very popular film in the 1st 2 weeks of opening but films here sell out quickly because of the small theaters. We ended up buying tickets for the next show which was at 4:50. We were advised to return by 4:10 because the theater would be crowded. We entered at 4:15 and as suspected it was already very crowded. We had to sit in the last row. I'm assuming it's not that busy all the time but be prepared if you're seeing a "in demand" movie. Fortunately, there are lots of great restaurants and bars in the area. So if you have to wait around for a bit until another show you have a lot of options for food and drink nearby.

Yelp
**BAMboo Review** BAM knows how to treat the kids right. Never been to one of their cinemas and yes, I know it's a shame but I've just attended the 17th Annual BAMboo festival. What a cordial yet ambitious gathering of kids, tots, and ghouls and unicorns galore. Numerous games with prizes whether you won or not. A bouncy house. And a DJ. A magician doing tricks and dressed up voluteers handing out treats. If you had no pail or bag, they provided that. They had a best costume contest. There was a hay baler/autumnal arrangement background that we loved and took many pics in front of. Caricature drawings, art stations, and just fun, fun, and happiness amongst kids. My 8 year old niece and I are super thankful and grateful for what BAM produces every year with BAMboo. If it's not the thing to do for you, let it be the thing to do before that thing you do on your next Halloween!

Yelp
I am pretty lucky to live steps from this theatre. Lately, I have been going here more frequently to enjoy movies. And although the theatre only shows 4 films at a time, they always do an amazing job with their movie selection. Kudos to the movie curator. For $20, you will get a movie admission ($12), a small popcorn ($4) and a small soda ($4). Pretty good deal. For $20, you might be able to get a half-decent cocktail in Manhattan. And that's a big MAYBE. I think the former is a better run for your money. This is why I love Brooklyn. You will have to put a gun to my head for me to move to Manhattan. LOL. I truly believe in the People's Republic of Brooklyn. There's no place in the world like Brooklyn. I love you Brooklyn.

Yelp
This is my favorite cinema in the neighborhood.* It's not just because they have a carefully curated selection of films that includes: -topical local selections (think Central Park Five) -excellent indies (think Fruitvale Station) -nostalgic favorites (think The Secret of Nimh, Enter the Dragon) -things you didn't know existed but might enjoy (think Live Action Puppet Shorts) -the mainstream flicks you actually want to see (think Wolf of Wall Street or Inside Llewyn Davis) It's also because the cinemas here are actually clean, civilized places. If I was to drop my jacket on the floor here I would pick it up, rather than assume it was lost forever, permanently stuck there by a horrifying amalgam of soda residue and bodily fluids. Also, the online ticket purchase/pickup is so quick and painless. I don't understand why I pay a surcharge for something that's easier for everyone involved, but I do like never having to speak to an actual person. The worst things you might encounter here are (1) pretentiousness and (2) a pothead knocking over a Wet Floor sign, and the painfully awkward laughter that ensues. The former people usually keep to themselves though. And the latter...wasn't me. I swear. ____________ *And by "neighborhood" I also mean the surrounding four neighborhoods or so. Really, almost anywhere except for the Nitehawk. And maybe the Sunshine.

Yelp
Where do I begin? I love BAM. I suppose that's a good start. Why do I love BAM? Because where else can I catch film, theatre, live music, festivals and grab some drinks? Love catching films here but you can just read my review of the Rose Cinemas if you want that. Lets talk about plays. I've seen Sam Mendez direct plays and Kevin Spacey star at them at the Harvey. That's pretty serious stuff for someone like me. (Even though I think A Beautiful Mind is overrated, they both have much much better work. It upsets me both are best known for that terrible terrible film) The Harvey Theater is a nice intimate place to catch a great play. Check the website often because you don't know what celebrity will decide, "Oh I want to do something cool and different. I'll perform in Brooklyn" (Lets be real, you know that's what they are thinking) They have the BAM film festival every June, which kicks ass. Rooftop screenings, directors Q and A, extended cuts, short films. It's a serious orgasm for film junkies. I plan to hit it up heavily again this year. This year I finally got to hit up the Crossing Brooklyn Ferry festival. In only its second year, it showed why it was such a hyped event and I hope this becomes a staple at BAM for years. I walk into BAM with a free beer sampling from Brooklyn Brewery. A sampling means, getting two samples and then going back on line. Walk on line, proceed to front, drink and repeat. Over and over again! Hey I needed to try them all................. a thousand times. They also were selling Brooklyn Local One, which by law I must get. I saw some bands I had never heard of before and rocked out to them. JAPANTHER FOR LIFE! Though I was waiting on Brooklyn's own TV on the Radio. Great performance which I would say capped off an excellent event. The BAM café is awesome. Great drinks and tasty brews, this is a hidden gem I honestly wasn't aware of before the event. It's gorgeous inside and a great place to catch a performance. Not to mention a dance party. Made tons of new friends at the event. The experience was the highlight of one of the best days of my life. Keep the Crossing Brooklyn Ferry going. So whatever the reason, BAM has something for you, trust me.

Yelp
My favorite movie theatre in Brooklyn. What I love most about BAM is that their films are carefully curated. I could know nothing about a movie, show up to watch something and I'm guaranteed to like it. The theatre itself is beautiful and since it's sandwiched between Ft Greene and Slope, there are plenty of bars and restaurants to check out before or after your movie. The BAM cafe will host separate events like live bands, music and art gallery displays from time to time. It's also a nice place to catch a drink before a show at the Opera house. There is so much to do in this gem of a building. If you've never been you must check it out.

Yelp
So much more than a movie theater! This place is great. The entire experience was great. Pre-ordered tickets online, and the "automated" kiosk, spit the tickets really fast, once I swiped the card that I used online. I notice and appreciate small details like that. The entrance way is grand, and had an art exhibit/sale featured. The counter people at the popcorn stand were friendly, fast and efficient. Nice bathrooms. The theater itself, institutes architectural elements of the original theater, framing the modern and wide screen. Comfortable seats, with about 30 long rows, with about 40 seats per row. Get here a little early, if you want a center seat, because the rows are singular. You also probably want to make sure you do your bathroom break before you sit down. Overall, a great experience, in an awesome venue.

Yelp
It's BAM! The community staple that has a movie theater. I get excited just b/c it's clean theaters allow me the pleasure of relaxing and not worrying about a critter scurrying across my feet.. I like that they have the blockbuster hits and artsy fartsy movies. It plays to my love of different kinds of movies. I wish they showed more than 4 movies at a time, but i get it they want to keep it small. Always an option when going to the theater!

Yelp
I love BAM and all its arts venues. I really do. BAM Rose Cinemas has a really great roster of films available. But, without some customer service, what's the point? Last week, I saw a film at BAM. While my movie was played in theater 4- I unfortunately heard everything going on in theater 3 (I saw "Les Mis" with a "Django Unchained" soundtrack). I'm not much of a complainer, really. But when the cost of a movie is as high as it is today (not BAM's fault), it would be nice to enjoy what you've paid for. There was no one at the box office when I left and I've called BAM three times and left three messages in the past week to discuss with the manager. No response. it makes me thankful that this year my film membership went elsewhere.
google avatar

Yelp
They show new indie movies mixed with events like their current spectacular 80s series with the likes of "sex, lies and videotape" and "River's Edge." A star-studded "Kicking and Screaming" showing brought Parker Posey, Josh Hamilton and Chris Eigeman to BAM, and I had the honor to meet Brooklyn legend Noah Baumbach in person. My quip about the similarity between me and the "Greenberg" protagonist made the encounter awkward enough to be a scene in a Baumbach movie. The only downside is the men's room. The urinals look like they were designed in 1936 and have to kept in place due to their landmark status.
google avatar

Varenka R.

Yelp
BAM cinema theater in Brooklyn it's the best in Brooklyn. Their films go from rare independent, underground, avant-garde, indie, documentaries to Oscar nominated Blockbusters. Their theaters sizes varies but they're always clean and what's best NO ADVERTISING while you wait for your film if you like to arrive early to grab good seats. The section where the cinemas are located within the Majestic building was originally a music hall and transformed into BAM Rose Cinemas in 1998. This is an absolute gem in the neighborhood!

Yelp
Came here for the BAM hallaween event. Gave BaM the check in do to the great event for the children. They had candy coloring and games for the kids. It was an outside event. The best thing was the bouncy house for the kids. As my son loves those things. They had people dressed up and of course parents and kids where in there costumes. It was a very nice and i hope BAM does this next year. Oh yea lets not forget about the good music...

Yelp
Since moving to Brooklyn BAM Rose Cinemas has given me film moments that I'm super grateful for. I enjoyed seeing Get Out in the theatre setting similar to an opera setting with the red molded awning. The concession stand is very affordable and the employees have always been nice. They offer discount pricing for seniors and I believe students too. They also have a membership where you get discounted tickets. I do not have a car and it is very accessible by bus or train. They offer presage tickets and some screenings have "talks" after. I will definitely continue seeing films here.

Yelp
What a pleasant way to experience a movie! Like the Landmark Sunshine (and now less so than the Angelika which has seen better days), the BAM Rose Cinemas offer a classy cinema-viewing experience. In one of the Brooklyn Academy of Music buildings, three theaters offer some of the best independent cinema in New York City. The seats are plush, the popcorn is fresh, and the atmosphere is very adult and sophisticated, arty but not pretentious. This is a great place for a date or even to see a film by oneself. There seems to be a mutual respect for movie goers that you just don't get a Kips Bay or the Times Square movie theaters...people don't text on their phones throughout the whole show. I think this may be my new theater...well, behind the Landmark Sunshine because they really do have the best popcorn in the city.

Yelp
BAM! And then it hits you! BAM is great. For movies, for performances, for a nearby night out. I've seen a bunch of movies here, and several different performances. They never disappoint. It's easily one of the biggest things I miss about living in Brooklyn. For performances, save the wine/beer glass and reuse it again and again on future trips!

Yelp
I've always heard great things about B.A.M before even going there. I went there a couple of weeks ago to see the movie "sorry to bother you." The movie was weird, but I'm here to tell you about the theater and not that movie. When I got there all of the tickets were sold out. I didn't know you could purchase tickets on the B.A.M website. But overall, the theater was nice, the bathrooms were clean, and the staff did what they had to do. This theater is a little bit out of my way, but I properly would make the trip to see another film here if I had too.

Yelp
I haven't come here for a while. Last night I had a really nice dinner with my BF and then came here to see Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman, which was very good. The building hasn't change much. The theater is goreous and the seats are comfy. The guy who took the tickets was nice and gave us good directions to our theater. I really like to come here for other shows as well because my BF has membership discount. Will come back for a dance performance later the season. Overall it bought back good memories and I enjoy watching a good show (movies or dance) in a beautiful environment.

Yelp
I recently used my new BAM membership to get half off movie tickets ($7 - thanks ny id). The movie theater we went into (#3) had a good sized screen but we were forced to sit up front (too close for my liking) since the theater was packed (it's pretty small). I don't know if that's normally the case or the fact that we went on a saturday. You should note - the showtime of the movie is the actual time the movie starts, and not the time the preview starts. Previews run before the showtime so don't arrive 10 minutes late as you normally would with other movie theaters.

Yelp
It's hard to summarize BAM just because it consists of so many different buildings and spaces. I've been to concerts and shows at the Howard Gilman Opera House. I've watched movies at Rose Cinemas. I visited the rooftop terrace of BAM Fisher back before all you could see was new construction. And of course, I also took many school trips out here as a kid. There's something for everyone. Be sure to get a yearlong membership with your NYC ID! It also qualifies you for some kickass local discounts!

Yelp
Came here to watch movies with a few friends. Definitely a classic location. The movie theater was packed, but pretty small. It was nice in a way, though, kind of felt like you were watching the movie with 300 of your closest friends, lol.. there was talking during the movie, but people's voices don't really carry and the crowd was very laid back and respectful. Because it's more of an artful space, the previews were shorter and, honestly, more interesting. There were no reminders/ annoying jingles to encourage turn off your phone (I never heard a phone ring) and another bonus: there were no ads encouraging you to buy concessions or other products. Now THAT was much appreciated! I purchased an adult ticket at a kiosk for $14 and a large bag of popcorn for 4.75. Popcorn was warm and buttery, but I couldn't eat the whole bag. I enjoyed the entire experience.

Yelp
I love BAM. I saw Patti Smith there in 2005 when she had her 30th Anniversary of Horses. I felt like one of the only young adults in the audience. BAM is usually for the 30s-50s crowd, but it's very hip. Like the previous person said "BAM has my heart." If people have spending money and free time, I really recommend taking a trip to BAM. You will have lived a better life for having gone to BAM. The only thing about BAM is that its location is not that obvious.
