While I was upstate recently, my brother showed me how he could "borrow" library books on his tablet. I thought this was incredible. I was in awweee.
Wondering if our fair city offered the same thing, I did a little interweb searching and found that we're in luck too. Since I recently bought a kindle, I was excited to try this.
So riding my bike through East Williamsburg, I did a little Yelp search for the closest branch and found this one. It's funny I ride by here every so often, and hadn't noticed there *was* a library.
Inside it is super library quiet, with people reading at tables, or using the computers and doing research. I walked up to the desk, and asked about membership. Just need to show drivers license & address so I had all the goods. And believe it or not I asked if there's a fee. I dunno I didn't realize this great resource was free!
So 10 minutes later I'm walking out with my library card, and I went to a cafe and dialedup the http://digitalbooks.brooklynpubliclibrary.org
I browsed through and settled on Haruki Murakami's A Wild Sheep Chase, which is some sort of mystery, detective, weird otherworldly book. He's the guy who wrote 1Q84. So I clicked borrow, then it sends you over to Amazon. Where you would normally see a "Buy it" button, you see a "Borrow it" button (login if you're not already).
That's it, a couple seconds later it's on my kindle. Wow!
