On the Grid : Bross Bagels

"When Bross Bagels opened their third location in the West End of Edinburgh, Canadian expats rejoiced! And they were not alone. A firm favourite in the city among locals and visitors alike, Bross is the place if you’re looking to find a delicious authentic Montreal style bagel. Boiled in honey water, with maple syrup baked right in the dough, and served with an assortment of toppings the results are truly delectable. Try “The Goy”, an everything bagel piled high with scrambled egg, smoked cheese, maple bacon, and a potato latke. Bross also sells their bagels by the dozen so when you inevitably become obsessed with this Canadian staple you can take some home with you for easy devouring." - Chris Brodt

On the Grid : Bross Bagels

"Bross Bagels original outlet in nearby seaside Portobello has become something of an institution in recent years, providing traditional ‘Montreal-style’ bagels to the masses - made with maple syrup in the dough and boiled in honey water. So Leithers did indeed rejoice when Bross came to Leith Walk in 2018. In her own words, Canadian owner Lara (AKA ‘Mama Bross’) opened her first shop because of “extreme desperation... I was tired of waiting for a visitor from Montreal to smuggle me bagels”. The results are outstanding - there’s nowhere else in the city (and probably Scotland) where you can get such authentic North American bagels with all the toppings. Try the Big Apple - hot pastrami, Monterey Jack cheese, pickles, mustard and mayo. Lara has a sideline as a stand-up comic and her viral videos promoting Bross are worth a watch." - fourcolourblack

It's nice to see this type of food is revived in a modern setting. They have a good range of different bagel flavours and the cafe seems to be nice and clean. The bagels were packed, juicy but actually wet. There was generous amount of filling. They currently offer takeaways and you can order at the entrance. I gave 3 stars because the meat was too salty for my taste, I was really thirsty after eating one bagel. The staff also needs a bit more training, they weren't attentive and the music was playing loudly so they didn't hear us properly. Overall, I would recommend for quick bite of a different flavour but would struggle to visit regularly.

All bagel sandwiches can be made veggie or vegan which is useful! £9 or less wil get you a really tasty filling sandwich that will leave you full and happy would recommend getting one to go and walking around the park nearby

I wanted to leave a review for the one at St James Quarter but couldn't find it. I must say it was a great experience - the ambience, staff and food! Moderately priced and I had a tasty bagel roll! The chilli and mayo sauce (or something like that) made the rolls taste 100 times better! I loves the sausages in the rolls which were spicy! Unfortunately, my GF dropped hers and Nicole was so sweet in getting another sorted. She also made us feel welcome! Nicole made this experience memorable and she deserves a raise! 💥

We came across this place whilst walking around. What a great place it is too! The staff were super knowledgeable and helpful. We ordered a mixed seed bagel with pastrami, pickle and mustard. It did not disappoint! I would highly recommend if your passing by and looking for a quick bite.

Expensive but tasty, went on Sunday and was surprisingly busy. Have to say flavours and taste are awesome but disappointed in size as was expecting a little more for a £6.75 bagel. All in all a good eat and would definitely return. Pictured is the Hole shebang for reference.

First time experiencing the cult classic of Edinburgh that is Bross Bagels. Got the hot chicken club & was not disappointed! Make sure you have a few napkins on hand cause it gets messy trying to eat this bad boy bagel!

Lots of vegan options🌱🌶 definitely loved the texture of the bagel and appreciated the seeds. The hole got STUFFED which was just amazing. The chilli oil could have been a bit spicier but nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was prompt and I appreciated the jokes at the door. We will come back soon for more. #reviewednesday
