This Charming Region Was Named Europe’s Most Overlooked Winter Getaway Destination

"A narrow port canal that winds through the waterfront and is ideal for kayaking, offering a close-up view of the town’s charming streets and vivid Art Nouveau facades; paddling here gives an intimate, scenic way to experience the maritime atmosphere even in winter." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. A Rugged Ski Touring Adventure through Western Norway's Sunnmøre Alps

"Hotel BrosundetThis city hotel—a reimagining of an Ålesund harborside fishing warehouse by Norwegian starchitects Snøhetta, complete with a roaring five-story lobby fireplace—is almost too cool for its Art Nouveau surroundings."

Hotel Brosundet, a Design Boutique Hotel Ålesund, Norway

"This stylish hotel is set in a renovated, Art Nouveau-style warehouse by the Ålesund Strait. It offers free Wi-Fi and an excellent seafood restaurant. Rooms include a flat-screen TV and tea/coffee facilities. Extra long beds, minibars and cable TV are standard in Hotel Brosundet’s rooms. Many feature sea views, original wooden beams and slanted roofs. Situated by the North Sea, locally caught fresh fish is a natural speciality at Restaurant Maki. Beer-steamed mussels and Japanese-style salmon are just a couple of options. The menu changes once a month. Jugenstilsenteret (Art Nouveau Centre) is 100 metres from Brosundet Hotel." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

Hotel Brosundet (Alesund, Norway) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The picturesque port town of Ålesund, Norway isn’t exactly one of the world’s style capitals, but it’s got a very hip family-owned boutique hotel in the form of the atmospheric Hotel Brosundet. The classic building’s wood beams and original architecture remain in place, updated with contemporary interiors and cozy furniture — the lobby’s fireplace is a particularly inviting space. Rooms vary in size; some feature views of the water, others the surrounding city. There’s a stylish little restaurant with seasonal outdoor seating, as well as a small bar serving craft cocktails, and the afternoon tea service is accompanied by live music." - Tablet Hotels

A Review of Norway’s Hotel Brosundet

"An upscale but unpretentious four-star waterfront inn in Ålesund that blends comfy Scandinavian design—minimalist rooms, airy high ceilings, wooden floors and neutral-toned furnishings—with modern amenities such as a fitness center, bottom-floor sauna, onsite bar and restaurant, and a breakfast buffet. The property is especially noted for a romantic outdoor twin-bath experience at sunset (two side-by-side tubs with scented soaps and bubbles) offering a picture-perfect view of the town’s main channel, fairytale Art Nouveau facades and distant snow-capped mountains. Seafood-focused dining is central to the stay, staff can arrange fjord boat trips, and the hotel collaborates with nearby fine-dining under the boutique 62°NORD brand. Practical details: roughly 131 keys, a typical starting nightly rate around $227, and convenient access to Ålesund Airport, Vigra (AES)."

Probably the best hotel in Alesund which literally has everything! Rooms are modern and at the same time gives the traditional Norwegian vibe, lobby is amazing with cozy seats and ambiance, there is another kind of lobby at floor 0 which has a perfect view of the sea. Rooms are comfy, modern and clean. Restaurant is exclusive with very hard working motivated personnel. Especially Irma from the restaurant, with her attention, time and touch in every detail was amazing. She deserves all the compliments. She paid extra attention to all our special diets and did her best, appreciated. Overall a 5 star hotel quality for a 4 star stay. Definitely recommended.

Gorgeous hotel on the canal. Our room was large with a huge bathroom (with surprisingly nowhere of decent height to hang towels and no space to put toiletries bags ). Very comfortable bed and daily service kept it looking good. Only here for two nights, we loved it. Dinner at Apotekergata No. 5 was wonderful (so we ate there the next night too) with a great wine list and really knowledgeable service (and beautiful art). The breakfast room was so nice in the morning, with the sun coming in through the windows. Very good selection of food. The foyer with the huge chimney and fireplace was lovely for a drink and we even had a pianist for one of the afternoons. The restaurant in the building next door and also has a perfect little cafe/grocery store with lovely sandwiches and excellent coffee.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful, we had a 3 night stay. The fireplace is gorgeous and was always lit , it was so relaxing to sit by. Our room had a view of the harbor that was breathtaking. Room was very clean and large, bathroom was a bit dated and did not have enough counter space for how big it was. Kettle and coffeepot were nice touches. The downside was the bed was horrible and felt like a cheap mattress on a sofa bed. I grew up in a furniture store so I know a good bed. Also the gym and spa were very small and uncomfortable. The gym equipment stuck out so much in the circular room it was hard to get past someone if they were working out. You can rent the two tubs they show online but I would never do it since there is absolute no privacy. You are on a patio that the weight room looks out to and hotel guests can access since that is how you get to the sauna which faces directly to the tubs as does one restaurant window. |Dinner was ok a bit overpriced for what we got so we only ate there one night. Breakfast had a good variety of food and was more than enough. |Staff were friendly and helpful.

We had a great two nights here in June! It's a lovely hotel that is walkable to everything you want to do in Alesund. The rooms, service, and meals are exceptional. Loved how easy it was to book a taxi to the airport too. Fabulous hotel! Thank you for having us.

Large, super clean room with wooden beams. Enjoyed this historic, waterfront hotel with friendly, helpful staff. Lobby with atrium and dramatic fireplace had a piano player one evening.|Great breakfast with a beautiful view and a takeaway breakfast prepared for us our last morning.|We enjoyed the sauna and plunging into the fjord. And it was a short walk to catch our rib boat tour.|Only one downside-we stayed on a weekend during Oktoberfest. Did not get a good night’s sleep due to the street noise.

Where to begin? Everything about Hotel Brosundet is perfect. The staff is incredibly warm, kind and accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable. The sauna and outdoor bathtubs were so refreshing and relaxing! Tedans was such a special experience (and delicious). The hotel is also in the heart of Alesund and the entire city is easily accessible from it. We had such a wonderful stay and highly recommend Hotel Brosundet to anyone traveling to Alesund!

Brosundet Hotel in Ålesund is a beautifully restored waterside hotel that perfectly blends history and modern comfort. The rooms are stylish, cozy, and full of character, many with stunning views over the canal. The service is warm and attentive, and the breakfast is excellent with local touches. The atmosphere feels intimate and authentic, reflecting Ålesund’s maritime charm. A perfect stay for those seeking elegance and a true sense of place.

We loved our stay at Hotel Brosundet. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated, and the views of the channel are lovely. It is cozy and comfortable, and the breakfast is a typical European offering that is very good. Having access to the sauna and cold plunge was wonderful, and the gym and yoga room were great, too. My only helpful suggestions would be to book far ahead if you want a massage, as we were not able to book massages during our four-day stay. And there was also a mix up with our bathtub reservations, so double check those if you make them. The tubs are a fun experience if you have 45 minutes to spare.
