Brown Cow

If you’re looking for a lively spot to grab a drink, Brown Cow is an excellent spot. A cozy pub on the Bahnhofstrasse with a full bar and a selection of a few beers. The service gets a bit slow when busy however the servers are friendly and accommodating in English. Great spot, we made it a point to stop in multiple times during our stay in Zermatt.

Really enjoyed this bar. We went for drinks during our stay and they were prompt and courteous. The atmosphere was fun and inviting. Would definitely go back!

Very solid burger spot! The fries were super well cooked too: crispy yet light and fluffy on the inside! Great beer selection and atmosphere! Great place to get some dinner and beers with friends!

the burger was good and filling. only problem i experienced was that it seemed as if they prioritized the German speakers than us. our table was dirty and when another group arrived later than us whose table was also dirty; they cleaned the mess up on their table before ours.

My partner and I loved this place, it feels very Swiss and less touristy even though it’s located in the heart of Zermatt. Our waiter was quick and efficient and food was lovely. Their placemats are butcher paper so we had a lot of fun playing hang man/ noughts & crosses - highly recommend bring a pen/ we borrowed from the kind waiter, play and enjoy food together!

Amazing burgers and beer! We ate here twice we liked it so much. Very fresh food and pub experience! Highly recommended! The cheeseburger is well worth it.

Great place in the evening to grab some food and a beer. Loved the atmosphere here and not too expensive for Zermatt. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Zermatt to stop in here one evening and enjoy.

Excellent eatery, just a bit thin on the staffing. Loved the cheese-garlic burger. Prices are reasonable. Located near high street old town area.

Best part of our lunch at Zermat was the easy going bartender. Bar foods served as bar foods do and my tomato bisque was comforting. It was a very nice tasting tomato soup as it should be and served very hot! Great-everybody-knows-your-name bar setting made this place a friendly stop whime at Zermat or if coming back from your hike of the trails in Matterhorn! Check it out!

We stopped here after arriving in Zermatt around 8 pm. We got a bar spot and service was quick with our drinks. The vibe was really neat- lots of visitors, so many languages spoken, very casual yet cozy. A lot of the other restaurants on the Main Street were a bit fancy so this was much more what we were looking for. It took awhile to get the servers attention for our food order, but once we did food was fast and warm. I got tomato soup which was delicious and cozy. I do wish they had a more substantial vegetarian option. My partner got the burger and said it was absolutely amazing. We would return and recommend for a beer and chill vibes!

I came here several years ago when I first visited Zermatt. I brought my family and we each had the Zermatter burger. Hands down the best burger and fries in Switzerland!

The food was good. We ordered 3 different burgers. The stinky burger definitely lives up to the name so caution to those that want it, but if you love gorgonzola this is the burger for you. The tomato soup was delicious. I ordered a grilled cheese on the side to dip and did not expect for it to have ham and lettuce. For those Americans ordering what we think a grilled cheese is be warned. I still ate it and it was great, but when you expect something else you do get a little disappointed. The service was great. Everyone was so friendly. It was really nice compared to some of the interactions we received on excursions. The ambiance was nice. Very much a pub. Seating is limited. Seat yourself. Try it and enjoy!

We had Brown Cow for dinner our first night in Zermatt. I had the tomato soup as well as the Toast Matterhorn. Everything was delicious and really hit the spot. The menu has a good variety and I think that there is something for everyone. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and it's in a good location right in the center of town. I would definitely come back here if I visit Zermatt again.

I would say this place was ok. It was definitely crowded and busy. We weren't greeted upon entering even though 2 people behind the bar made direct eye contact with us. It's open seating and people share tables to accommodate everyone. We sat for 10 minutes at a dirty table before anyone came over. When they did it was to clear the table, and she didn't say anything to us. Finally a server came over and took our order. We got a burger and fries and then an order of soup. Food was ok, service was lacking.

We loved the Brown Cow! Cool pub/tavern vibe with good beer selection. Interior was rustic but nice. Staff was friendly & attentive. I forgot to snap a pic of the burgers we got, BUT they were excellent (I had the "Zermatter" w/ an added egg :-)

If you are in town and are looking for a fun chill place to get some "regular" good-priced good Brown Cow is the way to go! We were here for a few days and came twice! And love both items! Chicken bacon salon was the best salad I've ever had!!! It was so so yummy! Great pub! It is busy so don't come if you are in a hurry. It down relax and enjoy the good food!

This is a burger restaurant that we finally felt like we fit at in Zermatt! The beverages were tasty and well priced, not to mention the simple and amazing food. The service was great, it had a nice pub atmosphere to it and just generally a nice low key place to relax and refill after a strenuous day hiking.

We had burgers and beers. The burgers were so delicious but a little greasy. The service was a little slow but worth it. The inside is very cute and a good vibe for day time or night.

We were in Zermatt, Switzerland, and very hungry. We were aware that food prices were very expensive. So we thought if the food is expensive then we want something that tastes really good. We chose Brown Cow. It was a restaurant and bar. Woah! Our hamburger cost 29.00 francs. That is 32 US dollars. It looked amazing! But it was a huge disappointment and didn't taste good at all! The fries were the only thing that tasted decent. The service was just okay.

Food was very good and service was even better! The food came out promptly and was set at very reasonable prices for the area. The ambience also is very good as the inside matches the food and the vibe of the town

One of the best here at Zermatt! After having Swiss food for the past two days, we were tired of it and wanted something different so we found this bar on Yelp. We ordered the Zermatt burger and Swiss burger, both were excellent and we enjoyed it very much. The fries were delicious too.

The food and drinks are simply wonderful! The atmosphere was perfect. A Swiss holiday dream pub for lunch!

Good eat in and takeout options and quick service. Burgers and fries stayed hot after walking back to chalet. Guinness on tap and good local wine. Fair pricing. Fun spot après ski or dinner.

The hamburger was juicy and flavorful with nicely toasted buns. The fries were super crispy which was wonderful. My only complaint is the spicy beef tomato soup. Whatever you do, do not order this soup! It is legit beef soup from a can, you can see the vegetables in the small cubed shapes. We essentially paid $11 for a can of Progresso/Chunky!! Pub had a nice vibe and it a cosy place to fill your belly.

Tasty sandwiches, hot fries! Loved the Matterhorn Toast I had. The sandwich included ham, cheese, onions, and mushrooms. Nice and hot, perfect for a cold day.

Came back to Zermatt after three years. We were happy with this Pub the last time, so we decided to come back here for lunch. Setting is very nice, a typical pub with some Rock Music and some sports on TV. The windowfront is very nice and was (on this warm spring day) halfway open. Nice to watch the world go by. Staff was friendly and our lunch arrived fast. We ordered the Zermatt Burger with sides and a small serving of the Cordon-Bleu with sides. Both meals came with french fries and salad, as well as Mayo and Ketchup. The Cordon-Bleu was freshly prepared and crispy outside. The Burger was - again - a great choice. Good meat and topped with a good slice of real swiss cheese and a lot of onions. Which ist great, 'cause I love onions. No pickles or tomatoes in the Burger....fantastic! French fries were big cuts and homemade, hot and crispy. Good stuff! We had some Coke and Soda with. The Burger was only 20 CHF and the Cordon-Bleu only 13 CHF! Talk about value here in Zermatt. Fast food chains in town aren't cheaper....and this here tastes better. All in all a really great choice. Will definitely have lunch here again next time.

Seeking out a party would be a lot easier if more places like Brown Cow were present in every town around the world. Regardless of season or day of the week, it is a place guaranteed to be crowded and have a solid variety of brews and bar food. It is simple and fun. The people seen here are people you would witness at any popular pub, anywhere in the world. There are the young "dudes" screaming at one another while balancing a pint, there are pleasant bartenders who are pouring brew after brew, but at the same time don't seem to be in a rush. The burgers are solid and the fries are tasty. Is there anything remarkable about Brown Cow? Absolutely not, and there does not need to be. It's a simple place of fun and beer, that needs little further elaboration.

Very tasty food in a pub atmosphere with good service and a reasonable price for the area.

Service wasn't great but they were very busy. Just had one beer. Food looked good. People were eating a lot of burgers. The bar was uncomfortable. Seemed like the height of bar to height of stool was off. I'm 5'5"so not short (or tall). I would go back to try the food but would sit at a table.

We only had time for drinks here but the atmosphere is hopping and the spot is excellent. In the midst of Zermatt town, how can anything not be awesome? We indulged in some Gin & Tonics (the drink of Switzerland), shared some stories, and off we went to catch the train back to Zurich. It is my understanding that their burgers are amazing, but I simply can't speak to that. Service is good, ambience is perfect, and the setting is a delight. Stop here for a drink, something to eat, but do stop here.

Excellent service, Larissa really went above and beyond with us and especially with our 3 year old daughter. Delicious burgers and fries. Didn't try their drinks but everyone around seemed very pleased with their drafts. Nice ambiance and free wifi also.

Cool place. Very busy and expensive like everything else in Zermatt. Had the wings and fries along with 2 pints of local beer and paid about 35 CHF.

Over rated and super expensive. Stopped in because we heard it was the happening spot on a Saturday night and there weren't very many people in there so we had a beer and peaced out!

Switzerland is very expensive, and Zermatt as a Swiss ski town is also pretty pricey. We were very pleased to go to this relatively affordable restaurant in Zermatt. My husband got a hot dog and I got a hamburger while we sat at the bar. The food was good, the service was good and the restaurant itself is very cozy. Definitely a good place to go for lunch or dinner.

I am a big fan of burgers, and given the oppertunity will have one for every meal. So of course when in Zermatt i got into the "brown cow". I have had the "stinky burger" with colslaw and fries. The burger was good and moist, and the toppings of onion, garlic and cheese were in decent amount giving an overall good and tasty burger. The fries was awesome - super crunchy and fresh. Overall - very good meal, good beer and good expirience and 2 points that would make my expirience a 5 and not a 4: 1. Bun was soft. Too soft and couldn't handle the extreme wetness of the burger and toppings 2. The colslaw boal seemed very healthy portion. Deeper digging revealed it is colslaw over a few leafs of lettuce. Wich was a little disappointing.

The downstairs is a fun pub atmosphere. Not the best place for food very basic bar menu. Upstairs has more formal night club and dinner.

Unfortunately they had the great idea to sell tap water! 1chf per glass... Sorry but this is really Miserable

This place is awesome! One of my favorite places we'd eaten on our 7 day trip through Switzerland. The food was incredible and the vibe and look matched. I got the veggie burger and my husband got the grilled chicken sandwich. Both came with fries and a side salad. Even the side salad it came with was delicious. I loved my veggie burger and my husband raved about his chicken sandwich. We got there around noon so we were lucky to grab a table by the window as we ate and drank but later on the place looked mobbed so I'm glad we got in early when we did. If you are in Zermatt, go here!

The best burger I've had! And the most amazing Hot chocolate from the bar! So many places to eat in Zermatt and we went to this place a few times even if just for drinks and split a burger before dinner 2. So good!! The owner is super nice too!!

Hamburgers where awesome and french fries are extra crispy just what you would expect from a higher end bar burger joint. Nice beer selection and great service.
