My wife and I joined the Brown Estate Wine Club in 2020 and were excited to finally visit the tasting room over MLK weekend. Our experience was so exceptional that we returned twice in four days! The warm, inviting ambiance and soulful vibe made it special. Hosts Anai and Marco provided outstanding service, possessed extensive wine knowledge, and gave personalized recommendations. Their engaging personalities made each visit enjoyable, blending education with fun. Overall, this tasting room ranked #1 among the five wineries we visited in Napa, Sonoma, and Lodi. We can’t wait to return!

Google
Brown Downtown Napa was at the top of the list for our visit to Napa. We went for an early afternoon tasting. The wine and atmosphere were AMAZING! The bathroom wallpaper paid homage to the Oakland/San Francisco black excellence. I will return if I ever visit Napa again.

Google
What a wonderful first time visit to Brown Downtown Napa’s tasting room. The experience was elevated by our amazing host/wine extraordinaire Joe! Joe is simply the best and I recommend asking for his services. He was so patient, extremely knowledgeable and matched our humor. Joe also gave us a history lesson! He truly made the day. We look forward to returning.

BROWN! The first black owned and run winery in Napa! What an experience!!! Made a ressie for two ahead of time. You’re in the elevator up 1 floor and are greeted and seated. With a reservation we sat at the bar with. Great view of downtown Napa. We were cared for by a lovely woman that was knowledgeable, friendly and made our experience worthwhile. The CHAOS 🌀was my fave as was the EASTSIDE ZINFADEL. The charcuterie board was tasty and just enough for the flights. Those cinnamon spice crackers and Brie were sooooooo good with the wine. I mean sooooo good ! The space is open, clean with brick walls and multiple large windows. Reminds me of loft style apartments in NYC. Comfy couches with low tables are soooo inviting. Lots of rich wood tones as the bright sun shone from outside. We left with a few bottles and will be back. Wish there was access to the actual vineyards, so much history here.

I had the most exceptional experience with this (Brown Estate Chiles Valley 2021) Zin! The best valentines day gift a girl could get. I would love to tour this winery because of this bottle alone. It had some funk, acidity (drank hot because it is hot, 15.2), loved to get down with some chocolate, cherry, plum. Very fun tasting wine, it leaves you wanting more! I do want more. Excellently crafted, can't wait to discover more of what Brown Estate has to offer! -Renee, Frisco TX

First stop in Napa and it was BEST decision. For a party of 3 ladies (sisters from all over), we had reservations and sat down immediately. Our wine specialists Joe was EXCEPTIONAL. He was funny, very personable, patient and knowledgeable. Joe made our experience memorable. Ask for him, if you can. The cheese board had special items on it you can’t get in any store, and all yummy. We all left with wine to take home. Thank you for making our first time experience awesome.

The pictures tell the story, I had a great time celebrating my birthday at Brown Downtown. Brown Downtown offers a delightful experience for wine enthusiasts. The cheeseboard with fig almond bread is a perfect pairing for their exquisite wines. The Calistoga Zinfandel, in particular, stands out with its delicious flavor profile. The ambiance is charming, making it an ideal spot to unwind and indulge in exceptional wine and meet other wine enthusiasts. Val, the hostess, was down to Earth and made the visit worth the while. Overall, a must-visit destination for wine lovers seeking a memorable tasting experience.

I don't know where the lowest reviews came from because my experience was absolutely wonderful! Joe (I think that was his name. I forgot, blame the wine) was our sommelier. Very knowledgeable on wines and knew exactly what to recommend for my party. The wines were excellent as well. But what was the highlight of this visit was knowing this is the first Black owned winery in Napa Valley!! Beautifully decorated. Very nice atmosphere. The employees greatest you with a smile. It clearly says on their website reservations are recommended. But as you can see the majority of the complaints came because people don't listen and thought they could just walk in. They pay very close attention to detail so it was not rushed. Don't be one of them and attempt to walk in. Take the 2 minutes and just make a reservation. You won't be disappointed!!

Yelp
I do Wine Tours in the Napa Valley. Not my first time bringing Guests to this Tasting Room. My mother sold their wine for many many years. Not once have I ever experienced someone rude. Today was my first experience with a rude receptionist. Hopefully, she was just having a bad day. Wonderful family owned winery with exceptional wines. Highly recommend.

Therese F.

Yelp
Staff were very polite. Loved the atmosphere. It's a nondescript door that leads to a wonderful upstairs tasting room. The wines are a little on the pricey side for me. When we went, they were low on staff so even though the website said there were tastings available, they couldn't serve us. They were very apologetic and offered us a different time slot. We decided it would be more cost effective to buy the wine than pay the tasting fees for our group (also the wines I wanted to taste weren't on the tasting menu). All in all it was a positive experience. Looking forward to trying the wines.

Yelp
I truly hate to say this, but my experience at Brown Downtown Napa was quite disappointing. As the first and only African-American winery in Napa, I had high hopes for our visit, but it just didn't meet my expectations. The tasting is held in a downtown location, and while the upstairs space is cute, it lacks the authentic wine country feel. It felt more like a wine bar than a vineyard experience. We were greeted by Alexis, who provided us with a menu of wine selections. Unfortunately, she simply served the wines without sharing any history about the winery or the wines themselves. Her knowledge seemed limited, and she used vague terminology that didn't give us the insight we were looking for. At the end of our tasting, she asked if we wanted to buy any of the wines. However, I had already visited five other wineries during our trip and purchased cases from each because those experiences were rich and engaging. Here, I felt like I didn't get the experience that makes wine tasting special. While we observed a couple nearby enjoying a more informative and engaging tasting, my sister and I felt let down. This experience lacked the depth and connection to the history of the wines that we had hoped for. I did end up purchasing a T-shirt, and I bought my sister a sweatshirt, but overall, it was a very disappointing visit. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this experience, as it fell short of what we were looking for in a wine tasting. I hope the family behind Brown will consider enhancing the experience because there is so much potential here.

Yelp
We had a reservation for the flight experience. This was a great first stop for our black-owned Napa trip! The entrance is a tiny little skinny door that is pretty easy to miss. Directly inside that door in an elevator that you must take up and a set or stairs that is blocked off. It felt like entering a secret club. We loved the decor, how comfy the seating is, and the staff's warmness. It was a very different experience for us in that it's so individualized/private even while sitting in the presence of others. There was no way to interact with other people, which is fine for less social people. Hubby thought that our server/sommelier wasn't as engaging as some places we go closer to home. He was happy to answer our question Ms when we prompted him but basically did his job (quick intro of the next pour and clearing glasses) and left us alone. I loved the vibe in this place. The menu for the flight experience gave a quick intro to the experience and space, namely that the glasses are suuuuuper thin to enhance the tasting experience and the books on display are available for customers to peruse. Also also, make sure you visit the restrooms and marvel at wall paper full of (mostly black) Bay Area celebs. Our three biggest critiques: (1) the music volume is so low that it may as well not even be on. We were the only people there when we arrived and couldn't hear it any better than when the tables and bars around us were mostly filled! (2) the pours were a little smaller than expected, especially since you only get 4 (3) the flight menus are preset unless you pay extra to select your own (even tho this is marketed as the sommelier curating an individualized experience for you) Overall, I'd suggest you visit here and maybe do one of the other tasting experiences. I wanted to do the one where your tastings are paired with small bites, but there weren't reservation times open that fit our schedule well.

Briann R.

Yelp
Gorgeous tasting room, incredibly kind staff, and delicious wine. If you are in downtown Napa, I highly suggest going by here for a tasting. My favorites were their Zinfandel and their red blend called chaos theory.

Kelly J.

Yelp
Fabulous experience with Joe! Highly recommend you do the pairing to taste the difference between the interplay of food and wine. The best wine tasting I have experienced.

Sa'Rah H.

Yelp
I loved it here! We got there a few minutes after our reservation because we got a little lost trying to find the entrance. They could use a bigger more obvious sign on the door but it's all good. Immediately, my friend and I were greeted with smiles and shown to our seats at the bar. I wish I could remember the name of our sommelier but I'm currently at a loss. He was fantastic and took his time to explain the wines featured on our tasting flights. He even customized mine a bit because I preferred a sparking rosè and he obliged. My favorite of the wines I tried was the Betelgeuse Rosè. It was everything Rosè should be. The charcuterie was yummy and perfectly complimented everything we tasted. The My friend bought a couple bottles to take home. The ambience was gorgeous! The people were all happy and the sun was shining through the windows. I loved everything about the decor and finishes in the tasting room. Such a lovely space! It was time and money well spent. The best wine I tasted while in Napa and I had a lot! I'll definitely be back again.

Shamina W.

Yelp
Let me start by saying, we walked past this location serval times and couldn't see the little door leading to the elevator. Once we finally found it, we were welcomed in. Everyone was very nice, they offered options for our tasting based on our preferences. They did offer a Spittoon, which is always nice. They unfortunately did not offer any alcohol free tastings. This Winery isn't going to have a vineyard you can look out and see but the location was nice. Very cute with dim lighting. It was very clean, that's always a huge plus! We loved the wine and definitely made a few purchases to take home. I will be returning but for a nice date night.

Jenna T.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to be in Napa. The vibe, the staff, the music is just a good time. It's hard not to just sit and chill and dance to their soundtrack. It's a sexy, modern, and grown vibe as soon as those elevator doors open. It can be hard to find as they have an inconspicuous door and no signage. We did the pairing which was such an experience. You can tell that every bite curated with each wine was carefully and intentionally thought out. Each pairing really did elevate the wine that much more. I appreciated that even some of the ingredients were made in-house, like the charcoal shortbread and the jam. I always love their Betelgeuse Rosé and in this visit, loved their Recluse Zin. They are generous with the pours which I can appreciate and the sommelier was open to us trying more than what was on our pairing menu. Also, make sure to check out their bathroom wallpaper. Love how they homage to Bay Area roots and our influential figures.

Chelsey C.

Yelp
This tasting room is an absolute must! They specialize in Zinfandels but honestly all the wines were perfection. The ambiance at Brown Estate is absolutely a vibe. From decor to music selection you feel like you're experiencing fine wine tasting in the comfort of your favorite lounge. The service is absolutely 5 star! My personal favorite is the rosemary zinfandel! We bought 2 bottles, one for pleasure and one to bring to the next family holiday!

Ellexus H.

Yelp
Came and did a tasting for my birthday! It was such an amazing experience. My boyfriend isn't big on wine, but he loved it too! The employee who lead our tasting was so knowledgeable and had answers for all of our questions. We will definitely be back!

Wendy L.

Yelp
I love sharing Brown Estate wines with people. Not only are the Brown family wonderful people, but they create delicious and unique wines. They are particularly known for their zinfandels but I enjoy their Sauvignon blanc and rose wines. The tasting room is a wonderful introduction to Brown Estate to make their wines accessible to more people. It is a bit tough to find as the door is relatively small and unmarked - we found others who were similarly searching for the tasting room! You've got to take the elevator up to the second floor and you'll find a beautifully appointed tasting room. There are a few different flights including one for zin lovers that cost about $55. The tasting fee can be put toward purchases of wine over $100 - there is also a discount for shipping with purchases over a certain amount. It makes for quite a deal if you're planning to buy bottles of wine. They also offer a lovely cheese platter for $35. We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tasting wines, and the service was wonderful with lots of context and information about the wines and the winery.

Sheree W.

Yelp
This place has been on my list to try since I first tasted their wine. Had the opportunity to visit and it did but disappoint. Tucked in the bustling Napa Downtown area, when you walk in it's very sleek, sexy and modern. It is a place where reservations are preferred but not sure if they are required. We scored a seat at the bar and had a wonderful host and she later told us we were her first tasting since she started a couple weeks prior and you would have never known! She was fantastic. So fantastic we bought 4 bottles of wine and a t-shirt! The tasting is about $50 and you get a good amount of wine during that tasting. Highly recommend this place if you happen to be in the area.

Andrea W.

Yelp
Unmatched!!! From the decor ... the crystal tasting glass ... the quality of the take away packaging ... the perfect charcuterie board ... the top notch service to the smooth and bold taste in the wine variety ... my tasting experience at Brown Estate was superb I cannot wait to return ... If nothing above moves you ... take a trip to restroom ... the wall paper will change your energy forever!!! There is a free public parking lot on 3rd Street about a 3 min walk away. Enjoy!

Natacha G.

Yelp
Amazing wine tasting. The service was amazing. Brown winery was fabulous. Great vibes. So glad to have experienced this Black-owned wine company.

Trisha S.

Yelp
During my trip to San Francisco with my sisters--one from North Carolina, one from Detroit, and another who recently moved to the Bay Area--I had the pleasure of visiting Brown. Joe A. was an AMAZING host, and I highly recommend him to anyone planning a visit. His expertise in wine, paired with his humor, insights into taste, wine pairings, and the fascinating history of the Brown family, made the experience unforgettable. I'll definitely be back for another visit!

Chelsea E.

Yelp
Good for pairs or small groups. Great service and wine. Their rosé is good, as well as the Chaos Theory red blend. The cheese plate was a fun adventure (definitely recommend). There was music playing, and the location has kind of a cozy lofty vibe, as it is downtown Napa. Beware of the entrance! The tasting room doesn't have a storefront, so be on the lookout for a side door. From there, you enter a small passage and you can either take the stairs or elevator up. Finding this entrance was also a little adventure; I definitely drove and walked past it more than once. (Parking note: if you want to avoid street parking, there is a free public lot at the end of the block, behind Kohl's).

Cassandra B.

Yelp
We decided to do a random day trip to Napa and we ended up at Brown Downtown. Side note.... We were supposed to come here the weekend before since we were staying at the Archer which is about a 3 minute walk away but we didn't have enough time to go. We finally made it here but we did not have a reservation so we met some new friends who asked us to join their reservation since 3 people out of their party could not make it. This turned out perfect for us. Thank you Brown for making room for us and thank you Valentino for letting us join your group. Now let's get into the tasting. The wine was amazing. The backstory on the winery itself is a must here story. The charcuterie board was tasty, and I love the ambience that Brown downtown had to offer when I say this place is gorgeous and a vibe it is.

Jasper L. H.

Yelp
Well worth the trip to Napa to experience the oldest Black vineyard in the region. The wine was excellent and the staff is amazing! The bathroom wallpaper was just as interesting as the decor in the main room.

Katelyn Y.

Yelp
I was able to come and visit this amazing tasting room on Thursday. I was educated by Eliza and she was AMAZING!!! Not only did she know her wines, she was fun and easy to talk to. She introduced us to some amazingly delicious wines and a tasty cheeseboard. I would highly recommend this fantastic tasting room if you want great service, a great vibe, and wonderful memories.

Ruthie S.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, amazing neo-centric vibes. I could have spent the whole day there. Musics plays softly in the background, casual conversations, and a burst of laughter. Everyone is having an amazing day, even if it didn't start that way. Please remember. I just left a Brandy tasing and now I.have sipped on 6 taste of wine. So, if you look at the blurry menu, I'm going in order. I'm he fist glass, too bitter for me, it tinkled my younger, in an unfavorable way. The second, literally made my cheeks pucker. I could taste a hole in both, they were very dry...not my preference The third, started like the first two, but got smoother, and fruitier...it delivered. The 3rd took me back to the second experience..not pleasurable. Then there was taster's choice. It was a great experience, give it a try.

Adrienne B.

Yelp
My partner and I were disappointed by the service. We arrived early for our reservation the hostess walked past us to ask another party if they had been checked in, she walked past us again and my partner had to flag her down to check us in. We chalked that up to not being a big deal. We were seated a few minutes before our reservation and we waited for over 15 minutes before we decided to leave. No one ever came to the table to help us. The same hostess who seated us checked on the next table who was seated after us and told them someone would be over. A waitress showed up to that same table to serve them even though they were seated after us.

Kimberly T.

Yelp
****First Black owned winery in Napa Valley****** Okay, I'll been to lots of wine tastings. There aren't a lot of difference until this one. We ordered a 4 wine tasting. Each new wine, we received fresh glasses. This may not be a big thing for you - it was a glaring difference in service. The ambiance was really amazing! This is black people be beautiful and talented.

Jacqueline F.

Yelp
This place is a revelation. I came here with my sister and I wasn't excited because I had some of their wine from Whole Foods and wasn't crazy about it. I loved the label, but the wine was meh. But, coming here and tasting was amazing. It was nice, quietish considering that we were there during the time of the napa jazz festival. We had an appointment for 1 hour 15 minutes and it was wonderful. The tasting was wonderful and the guy who hosted us and did the pours was so knowledgeable. The cheese plate was wonderful as well. And the wine was good. I walked away with three bottles and a wonderful bag. The clientele was also quite nice. I felt like I was in a club where everyone knew my name, even though it was my first time there. I will be back. I will tell everyone that I know that this spot has to be experienced.

Morgan W.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of the wine and this tasting room. They currently require a reservation for tastings and we were able to make one online prior to our trip. The space has great lighting and is very inviting. It's also pretty spacious. There were great opportunities for pictures, as well. We were greeted right away, seated and everyone was super friendly. There were just two of us and we were sat at the back bar during our visit. We had a really great server/host. She walked us through the history of the winery, which I loved. She was very knowledgeable and helped us choose our tasting options based on what we liked. She was able to tell us about each wine, while we snacked on our board and tasted each wine. I definitely left with a bottle to take back home with me. I had a great time and I highly recommend this experience when you're visiting Napa.

Jacqueline B.

Yelp
We came here to experience the tasting of a black-owned winery (and birthday present to ourselves)and it was awesome! We made the reservation, as they don't take walk-ins. I liked how there was an option for a bar seat (instead of standing like at the larger wineries, Cooper's H) or a sofa. We were seated at the bar as there were just 2 of us. Its a smaller space, but cozy. It was a Tuesday at noon, so it was quiet at first. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. Of course they all know the story of how the owner sold the grapes, but realized he could make more by making wine himself. They were good about telling us where to buy the wine in our home state. There's more order here than at the larger rooms. You get a set list of wines to taste, maybe 4 or 5 each, but sometimes if you're curious the sommelier will spot you an extra few sips. (at larger wineries your taste profile includes 8 or 9 different wines..just saying). I like the individual attention of a small space, but when there are 3 parties are at the bar, it can be distracting, as more people arrived during our visit. We were convinced to get TWO bottles, a rose and red zin. I can't wait to look for HOUSE OF BROWN at Whole Foods. That and NO complimentary crackers is what keeps this from being 4.5 or 5 stars (which I hardly ever do anyway). We passed on the food offerings as we had a large breakfast and another tasting to get to that day. The bathrooms were decorated with famous figures, check it out!

Cam S.

Yelp
Beautiful modern place place to do a wine tasting. The host for our tasting was fun and knowledgable. COvId card and reservation required.

Cici G.

Yelp
I extended my trip in Napa just so I would be able to visit Brown and I must say I was not disappointed. It is absolutely beautiful to be able to visit a black own winery that has incredible wines, amazing service and an inspiring back story. The vibe was immaculate, seeing a room full of beautiful black people from all over the world enjoying wine was beyond words! My favorite wines from our lasting were: Chaos theory-light and flavorful 2018 Zinfandel-bold and beautiful 10/10 would highly recommend!

Tee O.

Yelp
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Brown Downtown Napa and I must say it was such a vibe! Nice music playing as we enjoyed our tasting accompanied with a charcuterie plate and The service was very professional also the history of the Estate's beginning was so very amazing....

Rhonda R.

Yelp
Absolutely one of the best wine tasting experiences ever. This was our first time doing a wine/pairing and I am so glad that Brown Downtown Napa was our first as they have set the bar high. The vibe was all that, with the intimate location, laid back scenery and the music. Shout out to whomever selected your playlist. Eliza (sp), I am sure that I butchered the spelling of your name, but she was an absolute dream. She was extremely well versed in her wine knowledge as well as the history of the Brown Winery. Thank you much for being patient with us and asking us questions in terms of what we thought of the wine, what flavors we were tasting etc. We will definitely be back!

Jade B.

Yelp
I can't speak highly enough about this tasting room. The decor, the vibe, the snacks, the WINE, all amazing. But what is most important was the INCREDIBLE service we were provided by our sommelier! He was the most delightful guy I have ever met in the wine industry. I have been to many wineries, tasting rooms, restaurants and have even taken a wine class and never have I experienced someone with so much experience and knowledge be so friendly and down to earth as our waiter. Marco, thank you so much for making sure our first visit will not be our last but only the first of many!

Alexandra C.

Yelp
Brown is always a hit.. they are heavy on Zinfandels so if that's your thing you definitely need to stop by..

Dazimon K.

Yelp
I visited their tasting room for my birthday. The wine tasting experience was amazing, our server was VERY knowledgeable. I love that this winery is black owned. We tasted the rosé, Sauvignon Blanc, merlot, and a special red blend. I typically favor rosés but their Sauvignon Blanc was delicious, I definitely had to buy a bottle. They also offer a tasting that consists of all reds. I plan to go back so I will try the reds next time. The atmosphere was definitely a vibe with a very modern/chic look, and nice music playing in the background. The only "con" so to speak is that their vineyard is closed to the public. I was sad to hear that, I really would've loved to visit their vineyard. The tasting room is amazing though and definitely worth a visit.

Therese G.

Yelp
What a delightful wake-up call to Brown Winery! We had a ten o'clock am tasting which included our choice of two tasting menus. We opted for the reds as this vineyard boasts historic Zinfandel orchards. The sommelier was knowledgeable in the history of the fields, grapes and wines available at this Black-owned family winery. Cheese boards are available to complement the tasting for $20. A must do in Napa!

Sidney S.

Yelp
Millions of deaths would not have happened if it weren't for the consumption of alcohol. The same can be said about millions of births -- Mokokoma Mokhonoana No deaths or births were caused by my visit to Brown but it was a lovely visit. Thoughtful staff, cool surroundings, nice wine and a yummy cheese plate; what more could one want. The Brown family bought their estate in 1980 and the children started making wine in 1995. I remember having their zins off and on over the years and enjoying them very much. After COVID, their tasting room became a hot ticket as they were closed for so long especially with no real way to do a safe tasting at their Napa downtown location. I finally got in on a Friday, took off from work and drove out to Napa. Staff was great and took people upstairs one group at a time. I had both tastings that were available which included a balanced rose, a Primitivo and Tempranillo that I really enjoyed, the cab franc blend Chaos Theory and a few others. The wines are still top notch at solid (for Napa) price points. Even better is that unlike still too much of Napa, the other visitors didn't look like me (and seriously, no one really wants to look like me). A very diverse crowd offering their support for Napa's first African American owned winery. Others have opened since their trailblazing beginning but still not enough (Try the wines from Theopolis in Mendocino next). Highly recommended!!

Christopher L.

Yelp
Black Excellence. It's great seeing a black owned business thrive like this one is. Great experience, great service, great prices.

Ariel G.

Yelp
I visited Brown Downtown Napa this past weekend and it was the exact kind of vibe I've been looking for in Napa. A Black-owned space in Napa is important and the Brown family has done an incredible job of creating a sophisticated, elegant, tasting room that curates a good vibe for everyone to enjoy. First off, I LOVED the attention to detail. I noticed the wallpaper in the bathroom was made up of Bay Area staples on it and as a Bay native, it warmed my heart, lol. The music selection was fitting and added to the vibe. The staff was personable, friendly, and incredibly knowledgable about the Brown family's history and the brand in it's entirety. The presentation of the wines and the stories behind them added so much character that I had to leave with two bottles. Planning on opening them for a special occasion. Here's everything you need to know before visiting Brown Downtown Napa: Where do I park? On Coombs St., there is a free parking garage a little past the Brown Downtown entrance. It's covered parking, which is always good. If for any reason you're unable to park there, there's also a Kohl's parking lot across the street that's also free but for 3 hours only. Be mindful to not have your car towed or ticketed. Where is the Brown Downtown entrance? My friend and I, and another group were a little confused about the entrance because walked right past it and went straight towards First St, although the address says their entrance is on Coombs! So that was our mistake. The entrance is the wooden door on the side. Once you enter, you take the elevator up and you're good. How's the food? Brown offers a cheese plate that I've included in the photos. It's really tasty and pairs well with the wine selection. We ordered the tasting experience that offered a mix of reds, whites and a rosé. The other option is all reds so if you prefer that, try it out! The Brown Estate is known for their palate-driven wines, so we opted for the mixed selection as opposed to the reds because I wanted to sample a broader variety. I order a bottle of Chaos Theory which is a red blend and their Sauvignon Blanc. I really can't wait to open these and I'm probably gonna order more later, lol!

Dilva S.

Yelp
One of THE BEST winery / tasting rooms in Napa Valley!! The wines are absolutely amazing! The Zins, Merlots, petit Syrah- all 5 star. Great, relaxing atmosphere too. Joe was our host and he is literally the best of the best! Brown Wines - perfection!

Lavinna K.

Yelp
What a treat!!! Drove up here while in San Francisco. It was definitely worth the trip. The place is stunning. The people so friendly. We did a tasting as well as a cheese plate. I enjoyed everything on the plate! We were a bit turned around as far as where to enter but we figured it out.

Jason E.

Yelp
I was fortunate enough to do several tastings while I was in the Napa and Sonoma area, this was by far my favorite. They offer several different tasting options, including one where the host can choose some based on what information you provide. Arrived a little early as we finished up breakfast earlier than expected. They let us sit down and offered us water as they got our table ready. The ambiance was sleek and sophisticated. I took some time to review some of the books on display. All of them were interesting and something I'd want to add to my library. If you're in Napa, this is a must stop. Be sure to make an appointment. If I had more time, I would've definitely come back for another tasting.

One of my favorite places to visit any time I go to the wine country. I love the general ambiance of this place, and their staff is always amazing. They're pretty well known for their Zin's, I highly recommend the Zin tasting with a cheese plate. 10/10 recommend this place to anyone looking to experience quality wine tasting!

Yelp
Good winery to visit. The ambience was good. Our server was knowledgeable and gave us some interesting information about the history of the Browns which was nice. If you're in the area I'd definitely recommend visiting and tasting their wines!

Yelp
Brown Downtown has been on my list of places to visit for yearssssss. But with the pandemic & other life factors, I never had the chance to visit until recently & it did not disappoint. This past weekend, my college friends from the East Coast decided to visit me for my 30th birthday and we decided to take a trip to Napa. We really wanted to visit Brown Downtown because it was black-owned & we are sooooo happy that had the chance to go. For starters, the ambiance was amazing. Our server was amazing. The wine was amazing. And the charcuterie board? You guessed it... AMAZING. I don't even think that I could write a review that would do this place justice. This place is definitely great for a girl's trip or even a little date night. And with the tasting room being in a prime location, you can always explore some of the restuarants and other places in the area. Definitely a 10/10 experience and will be back.

Yelp
Never have I felt so at home and understood than I have at Brown. Everything from the ambiance to the bathroom wallpaper this place has depth and culture! Oh and yes the wine is also very VERY good lol. My second time here and the experience only gets better every time. Will continue to be a loyal customer!

Yelp
Took my mom & sister here for a girls day and the vibes here were unmatched! I loved every minute. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Tasting's were amazing. My favorites were the Chaos & the Sauvignon Blanc. We tried both tastings and the cheese board. Cheese that was featured on the board were so good we went to Oxbow market to purchase some. We ended the day buying a bunch of bottles of wines a piece. Only downer was their club membership was full so we couldn't join. I would tell everyone to book and experience Brown Downtown.

Yelp
Wow. Just Wow! On our recent visit to Napa we would never have found Brown Estate Wines in Downtown. If we created a list of wineries/tastings to enjoy I would guess Brown might have been 238th on the list. We went because of a recommendation from a friend AND a very unique and wonderful provision in their membership perks!! We had some other tastings on Friday and Saturday but one in our group of three suggested we do a morning tasting at Brown. Her friend is a member and said she'd get us in for a complementary tasting. I was skeptical as I'm a member of many wine clubs and I can't get a friend the perks unless I am with them. We showed up at 10am (you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning, right?) and the tasting room was so classy although hidden on the second floor of a nondescript building on Coombs a half block off of first. They had our table ready for us, it was very cozy and quite beautiful. There were a few flights from which to choose, my wife and I picked a red flight while our friend enjoyed a mixed flight. We were very surprised that it included the most amazing cheese and charcuterie plate with the tasting. Our flight was heavily loaded with delicious Zinfandel's which tasted amazing with the cheeses and jam. We learned the story of the winery, that a prominent physician started the winery in the 1980's and is the first or one of the first black owned wineries in Napa. I read about the wine club which provides some wonderful benefits with a very fair commitment. The unique perk is that each quarter you are allotted a number of free tasting experiences based on the club you select. If you don't go to Napa often many of those tastings are "banked" and can be assigned to friends who are visiting Napa. Brilliant!! I'm sure it gives Brown very positive exposure and many wine club sign ups. Complimentary wine tastings just don't happen in Napa and are appreciated so much! If you are paying for a tasting at Brown it is $50 or $55 per person which is well below Napa's current $75 norm....and their wines will impress you!

Yelp
Great date spot! I had a great time with my wife. She doesn't even really like wine. But she enjoyed it. Everybody is really nice here! And it's very comfortable

Yelp
Ambiance was absolutely nice. Service felt a little rush but informative. Atmosphere was very welcoming, my suggestion to owner or landlord was at entrance definitely needs a little freshness. Another suggestion is for the address, brought us to the Main Street and was hard to find the correct door on Coombs street, definitely needs a bigger sigh.
