Had the best brunch here, service and atmosphere here were lovely. Walking in, you are greeted by greens along the pathway where its located at the quiet side of omotesando. We ordered their seasonal set and curry set. Food were prepared well, the curry has a depth without feeling spicy or heavy. Starter was refreshing, vegetables were well cooked and seasoned. Definitely would come back here again.

We visited this vegan restaurant for lunch. The ambience is pleasant and peaceful. While waiting for our order, we browsed through some books at our table. The meal sets were delicious, with a delicate and refined taste. The matcha drink was excellent too. Service was very good and all the staff were friendly. We enjoyed our meal here and would recommend it highly to those looking for a healthy meal.

Our first meal in Tokyo and definitely one of the best. We arrived just as they opened and sat in their courtyard. It was peaceful and fresh sitting amongst the greenery. We shared two different sets, the tofu karaage was the standout and hands down the best tofu we’ve ever eaten, juicy and rich in flavour. We’ll be back again when we’re next in Tokyo!

One of the best vegan meals I’ve had in my life!! It was so good that I came back the next day even though there were other vegan restaurants I could try. Everything was delicious. You will be very happy. It is a must-visit restaurant.

This place, tucked away in a passageway off an alley, which comes off a busy road is a joy to behold. From the setting to the service with a smile, attentiveness and delicious food, we would recommend this place to vegans and non-vegans alike. We spent a lovely time this afternoon with well-prepared food made from local ingredients. The meal sets take prominence and reduce food waste, though there is an a la carte menu too.

Fresh, simple ingredients masterfully combined to create complex dishes to be enjoyed in the peaceful garden area or indoors. As a vegetarian (not vegan), I didn’t feel like the eggs or dairy were missing from the dishes at all. They were tasty all on their own! Gluten free items were not labeled, but the staff were knowledgeable about menu items that were safe or not. I went with the seasonal vegetable curry with rice, that is already completely gluten free. I was told the other lunch options may be made gluten free without the sauce (soy sauce containing). Sadly, we had to skip out on dessert for time reasons, but they did have a fully vegan and gluten free dessert menu also! As a bonus, the outdoor seating area was heated, next to an essential oil store that provided a relaxing aroma, and absolutely beautiful with all the plants filling the area. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone celiac and/or vegetarian travelling looking for lunch in Tokyo. It would be best, however, to make a reservation. We were lucky to walk in and get a table right away, but there was a quite a line by the time we were done our meal. Happy eating!

In the chaos of the heavy food in Tokyo between ramen tonkatsu and tempura, this place has proven to be the an ideally alternative to further explore the culinary qualities of Tokyo, already at very high levels! Boiled vegetables in the bamboo basket with the matching sauces were fabulous, how to not mention their rice! To excellent beer, organic coffee and a wonderful dessert! To try it

We came here without no reservation on a weekday around 2pm but we still waited around 20-30 minutes. Didn’t think it would be this crowded. But with this quality of food I think it’s worth it. My mom who only eats brown rice was so happy to find this restaurant. I want to share this place with my vegan / vegetarian friends too! Will be back again.

Yelp
Great food, service. Great over the decades. Quiet respite off busy Omotesando electronic sign in

Yelp
I came across this elegant restaurant when I was lost in the back streets of Omotesando Hills.. and I'm so happy I stumbled upon this restaurant! The decor is very "farm meets table" style and modern, and there is free WiFi to enjoy as you wait for your meal. There are 3 types of meal choices, one is the recommended course of tofu with garlic sauce (w/ miso soup, rice, vegetable dishes), the other one is like a bamboo basket of steamed vegetables with a dipping sauce, and the last is a vegetable curry. We ordered the first recommended course and it was very delicious. Every ingredient is organic and each dish is full of vegetables! There was an ignorant American Yelper who wrote a review for this place saying that it was "too bland" for her and her friends but she clearly doesn't get that traditional Japanese foods have a more subtle, delicate flavor. Overall I very much enjoyed this restaurant and will definitely come back when I am back in Tokyo!

Yelp
What a place. Modern, woodsy/green open space with Japanese set lunches, that are vegan. Wish this was my normal. Right across from Crayon house, down the alley. Three meals to choose from: seasonal vegetable curry and rice (1,500 yen), bamboo basket (1,700 yen), and the seasonal set menu (1,700 yen). Definitely not cheap, with an additional 400 yen for a drink or 600 yen for a dessert. However: holy smokes. The seasonal set menu came with "okinawan tofu", which really recreated the pork dish it was trying to immitate. Let it be known that no everyone is vegan or plant-based because they don't like the taste of meat, but because of implication behind eating meat (what's more important, taste or life?) The okinawan tofu was one of the most delicious meaty tofus I've had, in its sweet and savory brown sauce. Also, honorable mention to the rice mixed with black sesame. Some other notes - * we ordered some lattes immediately because we needed the caff. Waitress asked if we wanted our lattes before, with, or after the meal. I thought that was thoughtful * unisex bathrooms (which were themselves very green/wood/modern) * Loved the wheat arrangement cascading at the entrance

Yelp
If you've overdosed on Tokyo's tempura, tonkatsu and takoyaki and have a hankering for healthy, head to Brown Rice Cafe. This whole food centric Omotesando cafe caters to the yummy mummy set and hosts plenty of ladies lunching. Their pickles, miso and dressings are all made in house. The daily set menu for ¥1,680 is a good bet and includes the daily special, brown rice, miso soup and a choice of coffee or herbal tea. I also enjoyed the well spiced veggie curry. For a solid vegan meal, Brown Rice is where it's at.

Yelp
No idea why I've never been here before. I ordered the Japanese curry with brown rice and was blown away by it. There were crispy, perfectly cooked veggies in the middle, and the presentation was amazing. No issues getting a tofu free meal here, as there were several options and the servers were well versed in the ingredients of the dishes. The atmosphere is on the nicer side, with options of both indoor and outdoor seating. At 2,000 yen for a set meal, it's a little on the pricey side, but the food, atmosphere and service more than make up for that. It is so much better (and more affordable) than the ubiquitous Ain Soph chain. A vegan gem in tokyo.

Yelp
Light, healthy, vegetarian set lunch that changes daily. Great atmosphere.

Yelp
All vegan food , was pretty good especially if you are vegan and have been on the hunt for some steamed veggies with no dashi . The ascetic was great i loved the wheat Decor. The only thing i didn't like was this one particular server who was low key rude to me. she was a native English speaker who had an attitude for no apparent reason . So the only thing that wasn't good was my interaction with her other than that I Loved brown rice cafe . The topping on the brown rice was my favorite . Vegan vegan vegan - oh but also was ¥2,500 for a set meal

Yelp
If you want healthy Japanese food, this is the place to go. I went here a few weeks ago for a change of pace of all the unhealthy food I had been eating. The place itself had a very calm and quaint environment with just the right amount of class. The presentation of the food was also quite pleasing and the taste was very balanced. Everything was within a stable and moderate range, no particular taste overpowered another. You do have to pay more per calorie, but I think it was worth it. The staff, like most Japanese places, we're quite friendly and knew enough English to speak sufficiently with foreigners such as myself, well in terms of ordering food. The menu was in English as well. All in all, I had a good experience. This isn't a place I would go to as a daily routine, more like a once a month kind of place for me.

Yelp
The chai latte and curry was amazing! Our waitress spoke perfect English so it was easy to communicate and have a good conversation. Everything is VEGAN The decor is super cute!!! Great location , great staff , great food! Excited to come back and try some of their yummy looking desserts!

Yelp
Lovely atmosphere, perfect for a rest from the hustle and bustle of Omotesando. It's a little difficult to find, you have to walk through a beauty care retail space to get to the restaurant. (Neal's Yard Remedies) You can't go wrong with the lunch special, each item carefully chosen and prepared to blend perfectly with the other items. It's plenty for one person (unless they eat more than a typical Japanese portion). The cuisine of Brown Rice Cafe reminds me of the Shojin Ryori (Buddhist temple food) fare you can order at Komaki Shokudou in Akihabara. This place is popular with the locals.

Yelp
Small seasonal menu with delicious items. Good tea selection as well! Very refreshing to not worry if something is vegetarian :)

Yelp
Healthy AND tasty vegan Japanese food. It's one of my favorite lunch spots in Omote Sando. It attracts a crowd ranging from fashionistas to Moms with strollers. I always feel good after eating here.

Yelp
Wowowiewo WOW I LOVE IT. This is a must for any vegan or veg person! I would eat here every day in Japan if I could.

Yelp
Tiny portions, kind of bland and overpriced. I went with two friends and ordered all 3 combination options on the menu & we all had the same views. Went to grab a sandwich ~45 minutes after this "meal"

Yelp
Set lunch here is kind of in the pricey side, but you're paying for quality food and great ingredients. A nice walk away from Takeshita dori, so I would recommend stopping by here for lunch after a morning of exploring. They do have an English menu, and the servers are all very accommodating to English speakers even during the heavy lunch rush. If you're traveling solo, you'll probably be put at a communal table, which is not something I was expecting but it ended up being nice and not as awkward as I initially thought it would be. The food was great, there were some dishes as part of the set that I liked more than others, but overall I would say it's worth the visit. There's a nice ambiance to the whole restaurant which was great because I got a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of harajuku for a bit, and I appreciated how the chefs prioritized using foods and veggies that are in season as the main dish during the lunch!

Yelp
Brown Rice Cafe offers vegan fare on the slightly more healthy side and you can tell its really popular with locals because there's often a decent wait at lunch and dinner. Think of it as a slightly more fancy, less deli-like Pure Cafe.

Yelp
Street sign on the corner says LOHAS, Life of Health and Sustainability. This restaurant is well suited for that expression and not to be confused with the L Lohan life of health and sustainability. The food was very good. I ordered the set menu which has a variety of differently prepared vegetables all with their unique Japanese flavors. The pickled vegetables were very delicious with a delicate taste and not the over pickled items served in other restaurants. A much better quality. My friend ordered the Curry and brown rice set menu which was also tasty. Try the coffee after the meal. Ours came with orchid cream from Mexico.

Yelp
Brown Rice Cafe is a very nice restaurant offering traditional Japanese food. And while I appreciate healthy, creative food, I did not care very much for my meal. I would not revisit this restaurant if I were to return to Tokyo.

Yelp
Amazing ambiance and macro style food. A bit overpriced for what it was Chaya and Bon are better but this is definitely solid and great people watching.

Yelp
Amazing and healthy lunch options! Some of the best vegetarian/vegan food I've found in Tokyo.

Yelp
Amaaazing traditional Japanese macrobiotic meal. Very healthy and fresh and seasonal. Exactly what Japanese food is about. Like a delicious home cooked meal! Nice atmosphere too
google avatar

Yelp
This vegan macrobiotic eatery is the perfect location for a relaxing lunch on a warm summer day. The food is beautifully presented. All flavors and cooking methods, however, are very subtle. Your meal will taste healthy and I'm sure it would be. You will definitely feel better after you eat here. My favorite dish was the curry.

Yelp
I enjoyed my dinner at Brown Rice Cafe in Tokyo. It's a vegan restaurant except for honey but I think it's only in the drinks so it's easy to avoid. The restaurant reminded me of a more upscale Pain Quotidien because of the space and wood tables - a nice thing. It felt fancier than a lot of the set meal vegan places I visited, but the prices were still cheaper than something similar in the U.S. I love pickles so I tried both kinds - the Homemade Pickles and the Homemade Rice Bran Pickles. The rice bran ones were a little strange to me, they're not what I think of as pickled flavor, but I did eat a lot of them! And the other pickles were great. I wasn't very hungry so I otherwise just ordered the tofu cutlet a la carte. I was worried ordering a la carte I would just get a loan cutlet but it came with some slaw, a piece of broccoli, a piece of carrot, and a cherry tomato, a white kind of cream which I now forget what it was, and a lemon wedge. The breaded outside of the tofu had a nice texture but I had to put a lot of lemon on it and I would have liked some salt to add some pizzazz, and the outside wasn't really attached to the tofu which was a little awkward. It wasn't the best vegan meal I had in Japan but it filled me up and tasted pretty good and felt clean and healthy. I thought a lot of other selections on the menu looked really good. I'd go back to try a set meal and maybe a different main if I'm in Tokyo again.
