"Luxuriate in the Brilliant Colors of Sunset Is it is possible to be romanced by a property or courted by a restaurant? My luxurious and beautiful dining experience at the Fairmont Orchid Resort's Brown's Beach House Restaurant had me hooked as soon as I arrived on the resort property just after sunset. Immersed in aloha, and comfortably seated on the restaurant's outdoor patio, a solo voice and the sound of ukulele danced through the air in concert with the tropical ambiance. Sustainably grown and locally sourced foods are exquisitely prepared to please the palate, and an air of romance is enhanced with the lull of the surf rolling into the sand, only steps away. For a truly memorable experience, private dining is available on a knoll under swaying palm trees. Reservations recommended."

I spent my birthday night at this amazing place, and I loved it right from the moment we handed our car over to the valet. We were greeted by a stunning view of the property and the house. The hostess welcomed us and gave us a perfect overview of the menu. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere, and our food arrived in a timely manner. Everything I tried was phenomenal. I can honestly say this is the best food I’ve ever had, and I’ve been to many places. This experience truly stands out, and I look forward to coming back for more.

We came here for our anniversary dinner and loved the experience, especially getting to watch a beautiful sunset while dining. The service was excellent, and we really enjoyed the fries they were super tasty. The watermelon poke bowl was refreshing and a nice surprise. Dessert was just okay, and for the main course we had to request a custom vegetable fried rice since the vegetarian entrée options were limited. Overall, a memorable evening with great service and a stunning view, though we’d love to see more vegetarian choices on the menu.

Google
Amazing experience! They have a separate vegan menu with well planned out options. We were celebrating our anniversary and our server Tremaine even ensured the kitchen made us a vegan option for our complimentary desert. 10/10 would return and recommend to everyone. Time your visit so you can watch the sunset from your table.

First off, the atmosphere is 2nd to none. The beauty of the sunset over the ocean while drinking a citrus cocktail was surreal. The service was fantastic. Everyone was attentive and incredibly kind. We ordered the dry aged Ribeye (medium rare), and the lobster rice. The ribeye was char crusted which made it crunchy on the outside. I feel that this took away from the dry aging. Dry aged meat usually melts in your mouth. This was overcooked and kind of tasted burnt on the outside. The mashed potatoes that came with it were cold. The lobster fried rice tasted like the lobster mixed with white fish out of a bag. The sweet potatoe rolls and butter were fantastic! That was one of the most amazing parts of the meal! We spent around $200 and felt that the food was a little under whelming. However, we would come back for the atmosphere and to try something different.

We always save a night for this place. Well worth the drive from Kailua-Kona. Food is special occasion worthy. Lovely tables just feet from the beach, set on a green meadow. The service is attentive. My ribeye was scrumptious. Hubby ate all his mahi and then helped with my 12 oz steak. Mushrooms and mashed potatoes round out the plate. The scallops appetizer was so yummy! The tiny mushrooms and asparagus and sauce complemented the seared delicious circles. Tiramisu and crème were our chosen desserts. I missed taking a photo of the mains, sorry! There was a bit of kerfluffle because it rained and we had to move.

I made a reservation two weeks in advance for our wedding anniversary and specifically requested a front-row table. At the time, many seats were still available, but the restaurant ignored my request and seated us in the middle. Of course, that really affected the mood of the evening. Do not recommend Kona Prawns.

Beautiful views of the water and sunset, sitting right in front of the ocean! Excellent wait service with delicious food. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and very accommodating. Helped us to really enjoy our anniversary dinner! Would go back again. Book in advance!

Google
tldr: The BEST private dinning experience (the Pointe) offered in the entire Hawaii islands. I chose here for my proposal and it went perfect, thanks to the spectacular location and the amazing staff. I’m a data person and I do my research, I studied pretty much all options in Hawaii, and this brings the most value for money, and amazing view that my partner and I will never forget. The restaurant manager Dennis went above and beyond, helped me with scene set up, live music coordination a month before, he made sure we were took good care of on the day of planned proposal. And the dedicated private dinning crew Rey, Aiyisha (apologies if I got the spelling wrong) were so welcoming and professional. The musician on site (Bolo ) learnt & played our favorite music piece for us at the time of proposal. And it’s a private place while you can still enjoy the warm crowd cheering. Also plenty of room if you hire photographer. It’s just perfect. Again, it’s once in a lifetime experience, if you’re also looking for a place for your romantic tear bursting proposal, talk to them! - a happy customer

Yelp
What a superb experience for our wedding anniversary! If you have a big event to celebrate while in this area of the Big Island, please consider Brown's. It was a small hike to get out to this restaurant from the lobby of the Fairmont Hotel, but it was worth it to be on the beach for the amazing sunset. I shared about our anniversary online when making the reservation, and they gave us the best table in the place-IMO, so close to the beach and only a few tables in this section. We both got fish--he got Mahi Mahi, I got Ono. Both excellent but i liked his macadamia crusted Mahi the best. And the lobster fried rice had a great smokey flavor that sets it apart from your everyday Hawaiian side dish. Excellent presentation of food from the purple sweet potato bread, to the salad, the entrees, and the desserts. Try the tiramisu and the snickers dessert. Service was wonderful! There was even a sunset ritual performed with a horn! And the sun setting was the perfect backdrop (6 pm reservations in July is perfect timing). We had a magical time and will be back!

Yelp
I loved this meal!! Loved the beautiful sunset view with live music. Their warm ube bread was such a good start. We loved the traditional steamed fish with ginger and jasmine rice. Service was incredible - warm and attentive.

Yelp
Amazing experience! Staff, food, and Ambiance were 5 stars. To start off we were seated at the outer edge of the restaurant near the water and we were able to see the sunset - ambiance was off the roof. The food selection were great from the vegetarian (Kalo Fondant), to the Mahi mahi to the filet mignon. Let's not forget about the "Ube" rolls. The desserts was great and my favorite would be the chocolate dessert of the evening. The staff were incredible and this tops off a great evening! Definitely a great place to have dinner with family and friends.

Yelp
The tiki torch runner and sunset were the stars of the show. Food was beautifully presented and the service was good, but the steak was tough and the fish was just OK. I didn't care for the sauce but the server poured it on before I had a chance to stop him. Very expensive for mediocrity. We won't be back. There are better restaurants at other resorts nearby.

Yelp
This is a beautiful restaurant at one of the most fabulous resorts that I have ever been to, but the food is just average. The drinks are fine and the complimentary ube bread with honey butter is terrific. We tried four different mains: Ti Leaf Wrapped Kanpachi (ok), Kona Prawns (overcooked), Mahi Mahi (best of what we tried), and Special Ono (not great). This is a very expensive meal that does not live up to the experience of the hotel.

Yelp
It was raining the night of our reservations but the servers handled it very well. The food tasted great. The ambience is comfortable with low lighting.

Yelp
I came here for dinner and the ambience and location with the view is absolutely amazing. They also have soft life music outside creating a great ambience. The service is also excellent and our server did an excellent job of walking us through the menu. However, I will say for the price, the portion of food is very very small. Pictured is my pasta that was an appetizer amount of food.

Yelp
What a beautiful spot! Celebrated the wife's birthday with a sunset meal. Delicious foods; love their fish with jasmine rice. Favorite was definitely the ube bread!

David M.

Yelp
Enjoyed great food, drinks, view and service twice in my last trip to the Fairmont Orchid. Had a duck special that was cooked to perfection with right amount of seasoning and sauce. Rib eye was excellent. Sauce was on the side which i personally thought was the right decision (it didn't enhance the beef). My wifes fish dishes both nights she thoroughly enjoyed. Look forward to next time!

Richard T.

Yelp
Amazing!! The staff went above and beyond in every detail. From the food to the service everything was excellent! The lobster was delicious! Salads, chicken, fish were all some of the best we've ever had. Must go when in Kona. Best dinner of our vacation at the fairmont in Kona. And the view right on the water could not have been more beautiful. Also the music was exceptional. Very talented

Ruthie N.

Yelp
Beautiful setting. What one expects from a true island experience. Make sure you make an early dinner reservation to catch sunset.

Yelp
4.5 We went here on our last night of our honeymoon and it was a great choice. While pricey, the ambiance and food were phenomenal. There was a great musician playing, and being seated outside near the ocean made it feel romantic. We loved all of our food, and received a complimentary dessert-- no idea what it actually was, but it was very tasty. Our waitress, Summer, was super fun and we really enjoyed talking with her. I would definitely recommend for Fairmont guests (and others coming from other resorts)!

Yelp
Because I did not plan ahead as much as usual, the earliest reservation I could get was 6pm on a Sunday. We were thee for sunset but in the middle of our appetizer so we did not get another photo like we usually do. And we were in the middle of the tables instead of on the seaside edge. There is a new menu, "Brown's Experience" which is prix fixe. It's $110 for an appetizer, entree, and dessert. Add wine pairings for $65. We both got the scallop appetizer and the filet mignon. The other entree choice was the crusted kampachi. The scallop appetizer was good, although we each got two regular sized scallops instead of one large one. They were perfectly seared and nicely plated with sauce nd vegetables. Care had been taken with the sauce so as not to ruin the sear. I really liked this! The filet mignon is always tricky with me because I like it VERY rare. I emphasize this when ordering, asking for black and blue, saying moo. But the first one came out medium. The plating is dramatic with one huge onion ring, but I sent it back before I could snap a shot. The chef came out to do a routine check and was surprised to see that I no longer had my steak! He went back to oversee the refire but it came out probably by the time he got back to the kitchen. The second try was perfect, although the plating was a little sloppy. Scrumptious, everything a filet should be. The grilled broccolini was a little bitter. The potatoes were perfection, creamy and subtly flavored with truffle I think. Hubby cleaned his plate. The dessert snickers was good, chocolate with nougat and Mac nuts. Some nice crispies and some fruity filling. I really liked the port that was paired. Service was prompt and attentive. The returned steak was handled very promptly. She also let me try the paired wines before pouring the glass and offered substitutions if anything was not to my taste. 6 oz. pours. The maitre d' came out to check on us after dessert, just before the check was delivered. Our bill included a full, extra $110 meal! I called him back and he handled promptly including comp'ing a pre-dinner wine. The waitress rushed over and I asked if she had checked our bill but the Maitre was already taking the tray to fix it. We have been here enough times, that I give the benefit of the doubt, but check your bill for any extra dishes or drinks just in case! Great food and service. Not perfection, but worth the 45 minute drive from Kailua. Note: I noticed people were dressed mostly very casually. Probably those were hotel guests who didn't want to change, but for food this good I like to live a little and dress up a bit.

Yelp
Stunning restaurant at the Fairmont Orchid overlooking the rocky private beach. Service was friendly and attentive. The complimentary bread basket consists of warm mini ube bread rolls which were heavenly! Mac crusted mahi mahi was more of a thick filet with a light crust on the top - not your typical nut crusted fish- but delicious nonetheless. The filet with grilled broccolini was also tasty. The live music and sunset really set the ambiance. Amazing experience.

Yelp
The food was just okay and over priced, but the view was nice. We reminded them of the allergens but they still didn't tell us the poke had nuts. Luckily they brought the nuts and all other ingredients on the side and assembled it at the table. Overall, for the price point, the food was mediocre. I've been to restaurants where the food was half the cost, but tastier. I guess you are paying for the view and live music. For example, the depth of flavor of the ciopino wasn't great. It was a bit too acidic. The bread just tasted like sourdough, and didn't have enough furikake. The ube bread basket was good but not the best ube bread I've had. I like the real chunks of ube, and the sea salt. The scallops were okay. Poke was just okay. Cookie Monster from the kid's meal for $10 was reasonable with two cookies, a slice of ice cream, and chocolate and caramel bits, and a strawberry tongue.

Lauren A.

Yelp
We ordered the following: Daily cosmopolitan which was guava flavored 1 glass Prosecco Poisson Cru Octopus Ribeye with side of lobster rice Lobster agnolotti I did see a lot of comments on portion size and I tend to agree. The agnolotti was very small for $65. The octopus was one small tentacle for $32 - I would have expected at least two. While the food was good, I don't think it was great. We fell in love with poisson cru on our trip to French Polynesia and what was served at Browns just didn't compare. Despite being small the agnolotti was tasty and wish there was more. My husband's rib eye was was also cooked nicely and tasted great. Brown's could be a 5 rating with some improvements.

Yelp
The overall atmosphere is perfect for a romantic dinner. The seating provides a nice view of the ocean and the live music adds to the romantic feel of the overall place. The service was amazing and the waiters were very attentive. Food wise we got the House-made Herb Pappardelle, the watermelon poke, and the coffee dessert. The watermelon poke was pretty decent and had a spicy kick to it. The House-made Herb Pappardelle tasted extremely fresh and the veggies tasted excellent. The best thing was the coffee dessert. The coffee flavor added an extra taste to the ice cream. This dessert is a must get!!

Yelp
It was perfect. If I could give them 6 stars I would. We got there an hour before sunset. Our waitress was awesome. The ube bread was so good with the butter we ordered another basket and took most to go. I had the Brown Experience which was 3 course dinner for $110. The first course was the crispy pork belly and my daughter couldn't get enough. The second was the filet mignon. It was the best filet mignon I've ever had. And then topped with dessert. The 2024 winner for best dessert at Big Island Chocolate Festival the Kona Cold Pressed Coffee Brûlée. My daughter had the Wagyu Skirt Steak and the wife had the Mahi Mahi. We all exchanged bites and everything was delicious. We had a beautiful view of the sunset with the palm trees, ocean, and beach. They had live music and the man that comes out at sunset to blow on the shell. I wish I could come here every weekend.

John K.

Yelp
Would give 3.5 Stars Location - 5 stars Ambience - 5 stars Food Portion - 2 Food Taste - 2 Service - 3 I did Tea Leaf Fish. Portion was same as my daughter's fish from Kids Menu. Also....was two small bits of fish, not even a whole piece of fish....like something you would put in a fish stew. My daughter's fish was much better $18 vs $68. Not worth it. In a year since last visit, my observation around much of the island is that portions are down slightly with pricing up substantially.

Yelp
We gad a great time at Brown's Beach House. The view was great and the food was very good. Cyrus was a great server!

Yelp
We have been coming to Brown's for almost a decade and make this a regular stop for dinner on our trips to the Big Island. Every table has a beautiful view of the ocean and they have live music by local talent that adds a nice touch to your dining experience. Here is what my wife and I had during this visit on 12/9/24: Cocktails: White Orchid Cosmo - From the Signature Cocktail List Classic Vodka Martini - From the Martini List Appetizer: Kekela Farms Salad Ube Rolls with Orchid Honey Butter - no charge for the first order. Wine: Glass of Stags Leap Cab Glass of Villa Maria Sav Blanc Entree: Filet Mignon Spanish Octopus - this is on the appetizer list. The Ube Rolls are famous here and so delicious. The Kekela Farms Salad is made with fresh local ingredients and is great for sharing. The filet mignon is sourced locally from the island and was cooked perfectly. The wine by the glass prices are very fair. Dinner for two with a cocktail and a glass of wine is going to run you about $250. Add Brown's to your list on your next visit to Hawaii!

Yelp
Beautiful setting!!! On the water, live music. But be sure to book your reservation when it's still light outside to really take it in. Sun sets early in the end of the year. Good, friendly service. Food and drinks were good overall! However, I got the daily catch and the fish was not as described... super tough and the sauce was way too sweet, just not a great main dish. Scallop app on the other hand... 10/10!

Claire B.

Yelp
We had a great dinner at Brown's Beach House. The setting is beautiful, right on the water with a relaxed, open-air vibe. The live music was a nice touch and added to the overall atmosphere without being too much. The food was excellent across the board-fresh, well-cooked, and full of flavor. Everything felt thoughtful but not overdone. Service was solid throughout, and we especially appreciated Rhey!!! He was incredibly kind and friendly, and his positive attitude stood out. He made the experience feel even more enjoyable and welcoming. All around, a really solid dinner spot if you're on the Big Island- good food, great views, and genuinely nice people.

Yelp
A lovely place for dinner, scenery cannot get better and universally the service is always great! The food was not as before but I still suggest this place but don't hold out for anything but ordinary food but served as beautifully as possible.

Mounika N.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Excellent ambience, service and food! We had Kona Kampachi, Ahi poke, ube rolls (complimentary) and seared scallops. Resort with night lights was also beautiful. Really enjoyed nice stroll in the resort after dinner. Definitely a memorable experience. Would highly recommend.

Barry K.

Yelp
The food was great and the location and views at sunset were amazing. What really impressed us was the service from Janice who was so welcoming and her information/recommendations with the menu made for a fantastic evening for our family of 6.

Kate K.

Yelp
We have been to Browns several times and keep going back. Hers the thing...is it expensive-yes. However, the service is impeccable and our sever was knowledgeable and personable. The food is always excellent. If not, they will make it right! Everything on this trip came out perfect from the Mahi mahi to the ice cream sandwich. Lastly, you can't beat the view. There is live music and you get to sit back and relax. Truly, it is a splurge, but one we don't regret.

Yelp
Loved this place. First time here on Kona so first time here at Browns place. Ambiance is beautiful especially during sunset along with the live singer in the background. Service is exceptional, I highly recommend a reservation. It's one of the major sit down restaurants in the resort. Food was excellent, fish specifically the tuna was fresh as it can be...hello your in Hawaii! It better be...Drinks were stiff good and a little stiff.

Michelle L.

Yelp
We went because they had vegan options with amazing views. They offered a separate vegan menu with several options. I had the best salad as a starter. My entree was the Congee which was amazing! The server said that was a favorite from the choices. I ended with mango and coconut sorbet. They also had live entertainment which added to the ambience. I would definitely recommend if you are visiting Kona.

Cindy Y.

Yelp
This was my favorite place on Kona even though we didn't stay at that hotel. Friends suggested and I liked it more than the Mauna Kea places.

Saumya J.

Yelp
Unfortunately disappointing. The location is beautiful- but then this is Hawaii and several other places boast of equally beautiful setups right on the water. The food was mediocre at best - we had the lobster bisque (unenjoyably heavy and rich but not as flavorful), lobster fried rice (middling - the lobster was chewy), pork chops (sauce was okayish - but strangely served with a side of kahlua pork making it a very unbalanced composition), tiramisu (good!), and the Ube rolls (good!). The drinks were fine - nothing stellar. Now with such average to below average food, the service and experience could have made the evening. But unfortunately, the service was indifferent at best. Our server knew little and was not interested in explaining much about the menu options. The water server was pretty much flinging water at the tables with no regard for splashing the guests. I get that the vibe is casual but dear lord! By comparison, our experience eating at the Four Seasons, and even restaurants like Huggos, was so much more delightful. To make things worse for our night, there was a very loud party going on at the resort - so we could barely hear the live music at the restaurant or enjoy our meal and the views in piece. All in all, there are much much better places to eat at on the Big Island - whether or not cost is part of your consideration set. This place was just not worth it on any front for us.

Yelp
A. Great experience which includes service, views, and one of the best ribeye steaks I've had ever and I have eaten at high end restaurants around the country and Canada and Europe.. Go for it!!

Yelp
FOREMOST, I would like to thank ASHLEY NELSON who without her beyond EXCELLENT service, patience, time, clarifications and generosity of spirit, Fairmont Orchid and Brown's Beach House would not have garnered our business, bar none!!! Ashley provided EXEMPLARY assistance + five star service curating every detail of this incredibly meaningful private birthday celebration!!! She worked extensively to ensure gluten, dairy, soy free allergies were impeccably accommodated and responded with grace to numerous questions. Ashley has all the markings of a leadership role + truly spearheaded this experience beyond all the additional staff, far surpassing her superiors with her diplomacy and candor!!! She left no stone untouched, start to finish and didn't miss a beat. This is extremely rare as we bypassed several resorts as they did not match Ashley's high standard of execution. Upon arrival, we were wonderfully greeted by the hostess station at Brown's with an exquisite flower crown from Ashley's recommendation of Ainahua Florals and walked to the Pointe site where the beautiful dinner with custom rose petals sprinkle by Ainahua Florals was set up. The ambience was absolutely stunning. Our server Bruce was exemplary. He attended to us throughout the five hour dinner and respectfully gave us space to enjoy our celebration without interruption in the interest of enjoying the peace and relaxation of the incredible ambience. The menu Ashley assisted us in curating began with absolutely delicious Kekela Farms Salads. Next the Seared Jumbo Scallops were very tasty as well as the truffle fries. The Grilled Kiawe Kona Lobster was definitely good but in all honesty the chef should visit the Canoe House as their similar Lobster offering is cooked much more tenderly, succulently and is a bit more plentiful. Brown's lobster was enjoyable, albeit it could have been more tender and plentiful. The Housemade Pappardelle Pasta Putanessca a custom dish was enjoyable and a very large portion. The gluten free bread was astonishingly delicious and the ube rolls fair. The Hawaiian "Snickers Bar" was definitely tastey, however, extremely rich and quite heavy. The custom gluten dairy free chocolate avocado mousse with mango curated by the pastry chef, Daniel was quite delicious. His willingness to accommodate a lower sugar offering was so appreciated. The celebration was truly wonderful beyond words, first, the spectacular ambience, second, the kindness and care, the meal, truly enjoyable. It was every bit worth the location costs and meal/beverage minimums. Brown's Beach House truly collaborated to create the most meaningful birthday celebration. I would be remiss if I didn't highlight once again ASHLEY NELSON without whom this experience wouldn't have been possible. Special thank you to Bruce, our dedicated, kind server for the evening. The only constructive feedback would be to the food and beverage director and head chef who initiated the zoom call to finalize the details following Ashley's superior service. Due to the chef's very contententious tone and subpar disposition , which came across as him being quite put out relative to ingredients inquiries to ensure the menu met our numerous allergies and was tasteful for us, we almost discontinued the reservation. Perhaps, he should not participate on professional zoom calls if he isn't able to provide the standard of care of the Fairmont brand. We understand he indicated he is extremely well versed, his demeanor unfortunately was not. We appreciated the director's attempt to smooth the quite shocking, unexpected hiccup, however, we both felt the director and chef's demeanor could benefit from the authenticity, genuine, sincerity and high standard exhibited by Ashley Nelson. Adding this feedback as its extremely important to individuals with allergies to not feel like a bother given the need to completely vet ingredients. The intention isn't to be difficult but safeguard the experience as it can be dangerous. Hope this will be noted to ensure potential guests are treated respectfully via zoom menu curation calls. A tremendous THANK YOU to the entire Fairmont Orchid and Brown's Beach House team, Ashley Nelson, Bruce and the chefs that created this memorable, meaningful celebration. We definitely recommend this private VIP experience!! Mahalo Nui!!

Yelp
Brown's may have the best environment of any restaurant on the big island. It is right on the water in Pauoa bay, and is the place to go if you want to go get some drinks and appetizers and view the sunset. The main entrees are decent, but nothing worth the price. The duck breast with kimchi focaccia and duck leg confit was decent but it was nothing special, the macadamia nut encrusted mahi mahi with a lilikoi sauce was good but I have had better mahi on the island. The Kona kampachi was good but I preferred the butterfish with mushroom risotto. This was my favorite of the 4 dishes with a fish that lives up to its name with buttery delicious flavor and which was accompanied perfectly with the creamy mushroom risotto. The drinks were really good and so were the ube dinner rolls that literally had chunks of ube falling out when eating them. The final part of the meal that was my favorite was desert which was a Kona coffee brûlée accompanied by a macadamia nut chocolate dipped biscotti with flourless chocolate cake. This was amazing, every thing went perfectly with each other. The service was fast and exceptional with great recommendations. Final rating The environment gets a 5 star The drinks get a 5 star The food gets a 3 star The desert gets a 5 star The service gets a 4 star

The setting and ambiance are outstanding. The service was impeccable. Our cocktails were very good. We brought a special bottle of wine -corkage was $45. Food: steamed clams were delicious; the scallop appetizer was cooked perfectly although we did not care for the gastrique; I ordered the mahi mahi which was also cooked nicely - the sauce was too sweet for my palate and all the sides were bland (possibly steamed, needed salt & fat/butter); he ordered the duck and says it was cooked well but expected a full breast and was served half. We agreed we should have ordered the clams for appetizers and mains and the restaurant would have earned 5 stars.

Yelp
Good food. Great service. Very attentive and genuine server. He made sure we had a pleasant dinner. He was a real nice dude and not pretentious at all. It was the last night of our big island vacation and wanted to have one last nice family dinner. It was the seaside restaurant of the fairmont orchid hotel. That hotel was definitely fancy. As fancy as the hotel was, the restaurant was welcoming because of its staff. Sunset views were amazing. Definitely a nice night for my family. Thank you.

Yelp
The view is the best thing about this restaurant. It was very mid. We had the ube rolls which were great. We ordered a 2nd round (first round was complimentary). We also got the Octopus which was undercooked and not charred enough. The mahi was DRY. The Kampachi was "ok" the mix of the coconut milk rice, the hot fish and he cold crab salad was weird. The filet was just "ok" nothing special. At the end of the day, the service was outstanding the view to die for but the food will not bring us back. We spent $360 out the door for 3 of us no booze.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. A bit pricey but worth every penny. Large, delicious entrees.

Yelp
We went here last week for my husbands birthday while on Spring Break. The ambiance was great, right near the beach with an ocean view. The food was okay...nothing memorable and for the price, there are much better options.

Yelp
If you're staying at the Fairmont Orchid, highly recommend having dinner at Brown's at sunset, it's beautiful to be right on the beach with live music to set the mood. Some of us opted for the 3 course meal, but I ordered a la carte since I wasn't too fond of the dessert options --ube dinner rolls: complimentary, AND delicious!!! I wanted more but had to save room for dinner --prawn appetizer / ahi poke appetizer: i liked the ahi poke with the taro chips! ---kampachi fish over coconut rice pudding: fish was perfectly cooked and paired well with the rice pudding ---venison: the hubby absolutely loved this dish NOTE: If you're staying at the Fairmont Orchid, call down to the restaurant to make your RSVP! As hotel guests, we were able to get an earlier time that was not available online

Yelp
Great go-to when on the Big Island - Kona Side. Our waiter was awesome, attentive but not over the top. The live music was perfect, love songs (not cheesy) and the singer had some good humor. He sang an Adam Sandler song from 50 First Dates that made my night. The food was top notch from the salad all the way through to the dessert. We will most definitely comeback!

Yelp
Ambiance is unbeatable, amazing service and staff, and the food was a 10/10 especially the steak plate.

Yelp
Me and my family were excited to try this place based on our reviews we had read and walked away pretty disappointed... Way above average prices and found of our four meals the steak was definitely the best, I had the fish special which was $90 and just OK and my daughter had the lobster pasta dish And it was pretty good. My other son had the prawns which were terrible. Service was not good either. Would never go back.

Yelp
Duck was chewy and small portion. Lamb chops came out blood rare cut open from a small rack when ordered medium. Had to send back. Jumbo grilled scallop came out as 2 small scallops. Kampachi was farmed piece of dry fish over a mushy coconut milk rice mush. It was truly awful. Service was outstanding. Seating hosts were awful. Saved best view tables and sat people there after sunset, when it was pitch black and there was no view to see. Eat somewhere else with a view.

Yelp
Great choice for resort dining. Reservations are preferred around 6-7 to catch sunsets.

Yelp
This place is overrated and overpriced. The entree's average price is approximately $80, and they don't taste that good, I've had Michelin star restaurants that cost less that taste better than this place. Service was great, and ambiance was next to the waters and amazing -- these were the only good things about the restaurant. I'd rather go to Pa'akai Poke and have their poke which cost 2/3 less than the entrees at this place and have a more satisfying meal. I guess you pay for the ambiance instead of a great meal at this place. This place's food just didn't give me the wow factor for the high price they charge. Not sure how they managed to get such high star rating, I think they only deserve 3 stars max just because they have great service and ambiance. Will not visit this place again...

Yelp
All stars go to the atmosphere and sunset view at our 5:30pm reservation. All the servers work hard and are very friendly. The menu items all sound delicious. Unfortunately, there just seems to be a bit of a comedy of errors in both delivery and execution. The first food to arrive were the rolls, with a butter & likely honey dish to be added, if desired. Yes, please. Honestly, this was the absolute best part of the whole meal, hands down. Warm, rich in flavor, and little pieces of ube baked in. Next were salads. I had the watermelon salad, hubby had the roasted & pickled red beets salad. You can spy the ingredients on my menu photo. I got 3 squares of watermelon. I'm appreciative that they used Kamuela tomatoes and Hawai'i Island Goat Dairy Feta Cheese. It was good...but check the plate presentation in my photo...um...hubby says it's all about negative space on a plate. I'm more about food on the plate. Ah well. His beet salad was good, and the Big Island Creamery Mac Nut Cheese really made it. We also ordered the Kona Prawns as an appetizer, and after receiving our salads, hubby said "thank goodness we also ordered the prawns" in respect to the amount of salad portions. The prawns were good and had a nice sauce, dipped up by a teeny little piece of ciabatta. Main course: hubby asked if the prime ribeye was from the Island (I mean, Waimea...paniolos...) but no. The meat was okay...slightly overdone...the chimichurri sauce was salty and over oily...just really should have been better for $89. The twice baked bone marrow potatoes were not very flavorful. Maybe he should have thrown the chimichurri sauce over the potatoes! :-) I had the special swordfish. It was fine...not a lot of flavor in the preparation. It came with some parmesan discs surrounds potato...I think...and they were way too rich to finish. We had panna cotta with yuzu foam and lemon-ginger cookie and crème brûlée which I think had lilikoi for desserts. They were just okay. Finally, the service was attentive in the beginning, but as the night wore on, became less so. I had a cocktail that I didn't drink and not once did anyone ask if I liked it and would like another instead. We waited and waited and waited for the waiter to come back to the table after dessert to get the check but he never did. Truly - never. Hubby went to the front to give the hostess our credit card so she could find our waiter. Hubby came back to the table and we waited and waited. Our waiter went to the large table next to us but we still couldn't get his attention...so we left the table to go to the hostess stand and he said to them "oh - they paid" and then another guy had hubby's card to give back and said "oh - they paid" and yet no, we didn't pay. So we explained that and then the waiter said "oh - I got confused - I thought you were at the big table and another guy paid." They're lucky we're so honest. It was something that can happen...but normally not at a dinner that cost almost $400 for 2 people. We had to walk out repeating to ourselves...they're human...it's beautiful here...we saw the sunset... But we definitely would not return.

Yelp
I can't say enough about how gracious and responsive the service was. At the last minute, we had to add four more guests to our already large table, and somehow they pulled it off swimmingly. But the best part of the evening is their new chef, Chef Junior Ulep, who even came out to greet our table and check on our meals! Formerly from Kula Lodge on Maui and before that Meridia, Chef Ulep is an incredibly creative and highly prestigious Hawaiian chef who has been featured nationally. His own special entrée of the evening (snapper and scallops) was by far the most popular plate in our group of 16. Brown's famous ube rolls were perfect, but while some of the other courses were Brown's usual standard of excellent, others felt overlooked. The watermelon poke was too salty to be edible, for example, and one entree arrived cold. Desserts were good but not stellar, and the local sorbet flavors in particular were rather wan in flavor. Drinks were strong and the bar service was prompt. Once Chef Ulep works his magic with the menu, Brown's will definitely be the best restaurant on the island. It already has the oceanside ambiance and incredible service, and after the menu is refreshed it will be unbeatable.

Yelp
I had to come here on my last night in Hawaii. You know, just to see how the top 1% lives... and boy do they live!!! Y'all Upper Class Peeps , on the socioeconomic spectrum, sure know how to do it up at the Fairmont Orchid Resort and more specifically, Brown's Beach House. My family and I blended in with the rich crowd very nicely. No one even questioned why we were there. No alarms sounded. I didn't even have to use my fake W2's. We drove our rented Dodge minivan right onto the property and walked right in. I think the key is to make contact with everyone, smile, and when all else fails, say "Aloha." We felt like we belonged. Dinner was amazing. Probably the best meal I've had on this trip, possibly my life. Those FREE taro dinner rolls are to die for. And guess what? They even gave us extras to bring home. You know how I knew I was out of my element??? When I smeared the super soft butter onto my roll. What???? I thought all butter came out frozen. People!!! Listen up, rich people don't eat frozen butter. My mind is blown. Maybe Bruce S. (Our Amazing Server) knew that we were dining way beyond our means because he even threw in a whole bunch of free coconut macaroons for dessert. Thanks for being a real one, Bruce. You are alright in my book. The meal was epic. The venison was the best meat I've ever had. It was tender, moist, flavorful, and not at all gamey. The $25 martini was all vodka no martini. Worth every single cent. I've spent way more on alcohol at seedy dive bars. (Someone give this bartender a raise!!!) The lobster curry bisque is to die for. It legit had chunks of lobster that filled my senses and made my taste buds do a fancy dance like the waltz or the Rumba in delight. I'm assuming all rich people know those dances, right? And... although I had to charge the meal on my high interest credit card, Brown's Beach House, you are worth going into debt for. You are worth my 14% interest and so much more. You made me feel welcomed in an environment I'm not too familiar with. You made me feel like "Ohana" and that's worth more than anything in the world. Mahalo. Until we meet again... or until I can save some more money to see you again. Much love.
