Brown's Central Hotel, Chiado, Lisbon, Portugal - Explore & Book

"Cool, calm and collected, this trendy haven offers welcome respite from the bustling streets of the Chiado district. Stepping in through the big wooden doors we immediately felt at ease: mellow soundtrack, check. Bright velvet sofas, check. Cool art, check. Coffee-table design books, check. It isn’t a case of style over substance, either. The Fred Perry-clad staff are helpful and kind. Dropping your key at reception when you go out is the perfect opportunity to pick their brains for restaurant or gallery recommendations. Upstairs, dark and moody corridors lead to 95 bright and welcoming rooms, with cheery coloured chairs, statement wallpapers, Roberts radios and eclectic knick-knacks. There’s also some exciting tech: you can plug into your very own Marshall amp to play their Spotify playlists, plus there are USB charging points. Outside, you’re bang in the middle of the action - all the main sights are within walking distance or an easy hop on a tram or metro. A brilliant base for an easy city break. Highs Great style throughout: eclectic contemporary art and sculpture, along with velvet armchairs adding pops of primary colour Good value for Lisbon, and all rooms have Nespressos and Smart TVs Delicious brasserie fare for lunches - burgers, omelettes and steaks - and a cool cocktail bar Some rooms can be made up with twin beds, making it ideal for couples and friends alike A central location, close to metro and tram stops, and just 30 mins from the airport Lows No extra beds, so not ideal for families Some noise, both internally and outside; bring earplugs With 95 rooms, this is bigger than most i-escape properties, but friendly staff give great service and make it seem more intimate Some people bemoan the dark-hued corridors, but they’re well-lit and help emphasise the brightness of the rooms" - Anna Mullinder

Great hotel in a very central location. Lots of restaurants, cafes and shops nearby. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are small but very nice. Food and drinks are good quality and value for money. Would definitely stay here again if visiting Lisbon

Google
I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. From the moment I walked in, the front desk was friendly and welcoming. They gave me an upgrade to a bigger room and a tasty welcome drink at the beautiful bar area. The room was spotless and very chic. The bed comfortable and the shower had great water pressure and temperature. I will absolutely stay here again when I return to Lisbon. This is the second of the Browns hotel I’ve stayed in so I may try out the third one. Highly recommend!

Stayed here end of June 2025. The hotel is perfect location for downtown Lisbon - easy walking to all the sights and fantastic restaurants near by. The hotel itself is contemporary and very well maintained. We had junior suite on first floor, everything in room was well laid out and a very comfy bed. The rooftop pool and honesty bar are great on a hot day. But without doubt the best thing about the hotel is the staff. They are consummate professionals but beyond that, so incredibly welcoming, kind and helpful. The lady who checked us in (I’m sorry, I didn’t get your name) gave us so much great local info and was always there with a cheerful Ola! as we came and went. It was my girlfriend’s birthday while we were staying and last minute I asked reception if they could get me some flowers for her. This was at 7pm at night… when we returned from dinner, Carlos had arranged for rose petals to be scattered all over the bed and a bottle of champagne on ice for us. That’s going above and beyond, and meant to much to us. And let’s not forget Rui’s amazing cocktails ;-) ||Thank you all at Brown’s for a perfect weekend.

Amazing experience! The ideal location close to everything, including the metro. We arrived early and were able to check into our suite without waiting. All of the amenities you could need, including a fantastic breakfast and a bar perfect for meeting at happy hour. We got wonderful tips for bars and restaurants from Clara that were all perfect!! 10/10 recommend and we can't wait to return! Obrigada!!!

We stayed 3 nights, and we were over the moon with the hotel and staff. The room was well appointed. Bed was super comfy. Air con was spot on. Bathroom facilties were all excellent, and the shower was top-notch. Although we were in a busy area, we couldn't hear any noise from our room. The food was tasty and good quality. Welcome cocktail was tasty. The bar area had such a chilled vibe. Staff friendly. Cocktails were soo good. So pleased we had this hotel as our base.

Google
Great hotel, nice and clean. Some of the staff wasn't super easy going. Wouldn't let us sit on the patio while eating other restaurants foods and drink our own wine in the hotels areas, not a deal breaker but would have been nice since we were staying at the hotel. Other than that the hotel staff was great

Google
We just stayed at Browns Central and it was fantastic. The location is great to get everywhere in the historic district. We have one complaint, there are very few lights and it’s so dark!! Rooms, bathrooms all dimly lit, and in the hallways I was completely blind trying to navigate. Everything else was great. Staff was friendly and helpful, rooms were clean, beds were comfortable and the cocktail lounge was quaint and comfortable. The breakfast buffet offered a large selection and the food was fresh. Of course the croissants were excellent. Overall extremely happy with this hotel

Google
The location of Brown’s Central Hotel is its’ best asset. Otherwise I would not recommend to stay here. |The front desk staff, (at least all of those we encountered) were not friendly and seemed to try and avoid actually speaking with guests or being of assistance in any way. Any questions were answered as glibly as possible. We didn’t experience any warmth or kindness from the front desk staff. It seemed we were there just to annoy them and keep them off their phones. ||The waitstaff in the lounge were generally more friendly. The “welcome drinks” were a nice touch. ||We only saw our room so I can’t compare to others, but we have never stayed in a room this small before. It was nicely appointed, so that would have been fine - except for the GLASS WALL that enclosed the bathroom! A person can literally sit on the toilet in full view of the room. There is a small curtain that can be closed for the toilet area but it still leaves the shower in FULL VIEW of the room. It was the strangest bath arrangement we have encountered. ||I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you can find another place in the city center or until the staff is trained to understand they work in the Hospitality Industry.

Yelp
Loved the overall vintage aesthetic of this hotel and the decor (...though it definitely doesn't need to be so dim in the dark hallways with black walls - while there are motion sensor lights, it's still so dark that there are segments of the hall that felt a little creepy to walk down). The rooms itself are nice - we had a cute vintage style mini fridge and alarm clock, safe, and I especially liked the Marshall Stanmore speaker that we could connect to using Bluetooth! There is AC and there are no screens on the windows (which is typical for European hotels, not a single hotel we stayed at during our trip had one). There were two luggage racks while most hotel rooms usually only offer one. The free welcome drinks were delicious and there is a little bar and restaurant in the lobby for a quick bite.

Yelp
Wow! This hotel is just breathtaking, and service was top-notch. By far one of, if not the nicest, hotel we've stayed in. The Rooftop pool was FABULOUS. My favorite pros: Amazing AC - room cooled very quickly The rooftop pools was beautiful Comfortable room, blackout shade, great mattress, and mini bar/espresso machine. Smeg appliances Welcome cocktail at checkin Friendly staff

Yelp
What a fantastic location, right in the heart of the old town. Minutes from all of the attractions. Staff are fantastic and there is a very cool bar with a great vibe and décor in the lobby area, they also have food into the late afternoon. The room was small but efficient and had everything you will need, ask for a room on the 4th floor and you will get a balcony onto the main street. Carolina at the front desk was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful in getting us restaurant reservations. She really knows the city well and had great advice. I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
A unique boutique hotel located in the heart of the old town. The decor has a modern 1950s vibe and it makes you feel comfortable as soon as you arrive. It offers free breakfast but that depends on what package you paid for. The location cannot be beat. You an easily walk around for shopping, located near a train station and you can easily walk to local attractions.

Yelp
I am so happy and pleased with my experience at this hotel. We booked it online through booking.com and it was our first time doing it that way, so it was kind of risky. I'm a visual person so I checked out the pictures and I liked it. We also thought it will it will have a great location according to the map. Well, as soon as we got there we were happy to see for real everything we liked online and it felt excellent because; the location was amazing, we were in the middle of everything we wanted to go to and visit in the short amount of time that we were at Lisbon. The service was wonderful, these people communicated with me by email three times before my arrival to make sure all my requests were done before I get there. The people in the lobby were amazing and as soon as we checked in we got complimentary drinks at the bar, so we went to the bar and got a shot of the sweet Portuguese liquor so tasty and perfect for the cold weather. The background music they have playing on the whole time was simply amazing. It was very nice music jazz that made me happy instantly as soon as I walked into the lobby. They clean smell was also great, it felt very nice to be in a place like this which also was wonderfully decorated. I am impressed with all the details that this hotel has in terms of decoration, the rooms had so many nice stuff very modern but all decorated like in the 40s or 50s and that made me feel so good and so fortunate. We pay less than $130 per night and that included breakfast. Their breakfast was an amazing Portuguese breakfast that helped us going through the whole day and we walked a lot. I loved Lisbon it's a beautiful city with gorgeous gorgeous people and if I go again, which I want, I'm going to come back to this Hotel, because of everything I said and is the place to be. Thank you so much Brown's Hotel and I hope to see you next time, Obrigada.

Yelp
This hotel has awesome location. It is very quiet from street noise. The breakfast buffet is plentiful and some options change daily. There are scrambled eggs, bacon, veggie, many breads, yogurt, walnuts, cereal, cold meats, cheese, water pitcher at eAch table, two espresso machines, tea, fresh apples, bananas, melon. The staff is friendly. There is a large bar lobby area with comfy chairs. I highly recommend this hotel. They held our bags when we arrived at 7am and also gave us breakfast vouchers.

Yelp
After making a reservation directly with the hotel on my laptop, our desktop computer picked up a Malware warning when clicking on the link from the confirmation email. My request for information or clarification was not answered. Looks like a lovely place, but wouldn't book unless through a service like Priceline, Expedia, etc.

Yelp
What a great cozy boutique hotel. Friendly staff and very attentive. They stored our luggage when we left for two days in Spain. Came back to new room for last night and they welcomed us with bottle of their red wine :) Also you receive a welcome drink upon arrival - ginja sweet cherry liqueur - originated in Lisbon. Rooms are different sizes and we went with small room with street view and it was perfect- bed was big enough and sooooo comfy . Breakfast downstairs had great selection of bread, pastries and some fruits . Eggs and sausage and some veggies. Nothing spectacular but enough to get you going on your day. Great location in center of the city - Baixa and Chiado district. 20 min to the airport. Make sure when you order a taxi to take you to airport to request a taxi with meter. We got arranged "tax" and it charged us flat fee of 20 euro when regular meter taxi various from 7-13 euros. Nevertheless - fantastic hotel.

Yelp
Absolutely made my stay in Lisbon amazing! This is the nicest boutique hotel have been to and I will recommend it to everyone! It was perfection! I had the interior room which worried me at first. It's was narrow but i have never had a more comfortable room! The bed, the sheets, the towels were so luxurious! Decor was very classy and clean. The shower had great pressure and the toiletries provided were adequate. There's was coffe and tea in the room and a well stocked minibar. The staff all spoke very good English which was a big relief to me. They provided me with a power adaptor and weigh scale for my luggage and attended to everything I asked including assistance about the town during my stay. The lounge and bar area and impeccably decorated with comfortable eclectic furniture and art. The bar staff offered me a shot of ginger sour with dark chocolate as a welcome drink. It was awesome! I ordered the full glass the next evening. The breakfast was included and it was top notch including several varieties of cheeses and pastries. The location can't be more perfect! It's near several bars and restaurants and only a few minutes walk to several sites including Castelo De Sao Jorge and the Arc de San Agustin. It's also not far from the public plaza and several shops. I plan on visiting Lisbon again and this is where I will be staying when I do! Bravo Browns!

Yelp
This was a lucky find. Value pricing for a cozy, friendly, lovely staff. Very clean well made rooms, beautiful breakfast buffet included. Centrally located. A short walk or 4€ cab ride to the Castle,(it's all uphill and we're lazy), near all of the fun shopping and mom and pop tiny, yummy restaurants. I can't say enough. We are here for 5 nights and could easily stay 2 weeks. Free wifi and computers to use. Soft velvet couches to sip your drinks in the bar. Multiple newspapers to read, very few Americans, but the staff speaks excellent English. I can't say enough. For the price, it's an excellent value and a beautiful place. You can feel the love, and get the unique feel for this warm historic city that is Lisbon.

Yelp
We love it here! You have to pull the door knob, then push it to open the door. The bar in the lobby is nice. They held our bags, called my cell phone when our room was ready, and gave us an early check in. The room are tiny, but clean. Breakfast buffet is included each morning. We're happy :)))))

Yelp
When I book a hotel room, I generally care most about cleanliness and location. All of the reviews I found online reassured me that Brown's Central was a good choice for our stay in Lisbon...and they were right. The hotel is centrally located with restaurants, drinks, transportation, and shopping right outside the door. São Jorge Castle is an uphill walk away and the waterfront just a few blocks. Our "small room with an interior view" was truly tiny with a view of a wall a few inches away, but well appointed and clean. If you plan to stay for more than a couple days, I would recommend a larger room or at least a room with windows opening to the outside because our room felt cramped quickly. The shower water pressure was great and the blow dryer in the room was powerful (I didn't regret not packing my own). The hallways are very dark, so we struggled at times unlocking our door and, really, there may have been something wrong with the doorknob. Not a big deal and nothing a flashlight app didn't resolve. The wi-fi from the lobby worked well in our room. The check-in time is 3pm. Unfortunately, they couldn't accommodate our request for an early check-in, but like most places, they were willing to hold our bags then as well as when we checked out. With the clean room, great location, and the free daily breakfast, I felt like we got a good deal on our stay.

Yelp
Fun, trendy hotel on a great location. My room faces a courtyard and the front faces a pedestrian only street - so at least two sides are very quiet. Room is small, but cute and comfy. A/C works great. Perfect location in a very fun, safe neighborhood.

Suz R.

Yelp
Awesome location near everything including restaurants, tourist attractions and public transportation. The breakfast was hearty and provided enough options for everyone. Not your typical cookie cutter hotel in the very best way- totally recommend!

Derek J.

Yelp
This was our home base while in Lisbon, and we were very happy with everything. Excellent location (we walked almost everywhere), friendly staff, funky decorations in the room and lobby, and a nice, complete free breakfast. Bathroom was a little cramped, but otherwise the room was a decent size. If we were to go back to Lisbon, we'd stay there again!
