Went for a weekend dinner at Brownstone Restaurant. They're one of the few high end spots in town. Courtyard’s perfect for outdoor dining. Mains are $28.00 to $52.00. - Sangria ($13.00) - Besamé ($13.00) - Prawn ceviche ($17.00) - tiny portion - Smoked duck breast ($35.00) - excellent polenta. Cherry fig complimented the duck - Elk osso buco ($39.00) - special of the night. Elk was dry, scallop potatoes were delicious - Herb crusted Pacific red snapper ($31.00) - flaky and moist. Enjoyed the chive risotto, variety of veg (carrots, asparagus, red pepper) - Cioppino ($30.00)

A good restaurant with good service. Some exceptional dishes and some misses. Service was great from some and mid from others. We had a variety of dishes - the rabbit spanakopita was great, the pork chop also great. The paella was sort of paella. The steak was a chewy mess. Cocktails were also hit and miss. Certainly missing the details for a premium priced establishment.

Google
A great restaurants, wonderful menus, we were going to just have a main course but the starters were too tempting, we had crab cakes and the Rabbit, followed by Salmon by the lamb couscous. Then our waitress brought the dessert menus, we both had the maple Creme brûlée historic. Our waitress was friendly and super helpful. Eat way more than we should have! Thank you Polly at the Rocky Mountaineer for the recommendation . We booked in advance

The Brownstone offers a classic and classy ambiance in the dining room and an imaginative menu with locally sourced ingredients. The wine list features local BC wines. We started with a smoked beetroot salad with a fennel and goat cheese dressing and a spanakopita stuffed with duck and topped with apple slices. Our server was very knowledgeable about the drink and food selections and was always Johnny on the spot. Mains were a mixed seafood stew and salmon served over whipped horseradish potatoes with grilled vegetables. Both were flavorful and delicious. The serving of the seafood stew was HUGE and could easily be shared. I should’ve ordered the regular potatoes because the horseradish potatoes slightly overpowered the salmon.

Absolutely incredible meal and service. Everything in our meal had a creative, distinct and fresh flavour. Served quickly and staff was lovely and attentive.

Had a lovely experience here for appetizers and drinks. Steph was kind, attentive and very thoughtful in serving us. She went out of her way to even replace my drink after she saw a leaf fall into it - I did not even have to ask! In fact, I did not even notice myself. Food was spectacular. Upon first glance, the menu is similar to canadian bistros across the country, but each dish was executed at a high level. Each bite was well balanced, and the rabbit spanakopita was a lovely surprise. Would highly recommend. Thank you Steph and Brownstone for a wonderful meal.

Google
It’s located in a heritage building but the air conditioning was running good, I know others prefer the patio but it was a hot day when I came. Food was delicious, had the mussels, pork chop and duck breast orders. Service was friendly, we were greeted and seated quickly, but there was a longer wait time after our orders were placed for the food to arrive. The place did get busy so I suppose it’s somewhat expected.

Google
Amazing food, great service. We ordered a couple of cocktails, one was very similar to old fashion but with more ingredients, my partner enjoyed it a lot. Mine was the featured cocktail. Salty was very refreshing with taste of cucumber, mint and lemon. We ordered a green salad for appetizer, it was a little smaller portion than usual salads , but very tasty. I loved how quick our drinks and salad came to our table before ordering the main courses. Then, Brazilian sea food and steak for the main course were served. The sea food stew came with mussels, shrimp, squid and scallops bedded on brown rice. It was very delicious and a light meal, I do recommend this for sea food lovers. My partner enjoyed his Steak with a IPA. The dish was a proper portion came with special potato scallops and grilled zucchinis as side dish. Make sure to make reservation at least a couple of days before the night you planning to dine there since the restaurant is not very big.

Yelp
Definitely top notch. Set in a heritage building, indoor dining space is cozy but their patio even lovelier! Their menu provides a diverse range of choices that all sound delicious but unfortunately you can't order them all. What we did order did not disappoint; presentation was esthetically pleasing and the flavors were anything but bland. Wow! Staff was pleasant and professional.

Yelp
Great location and ambiance including outdoor courtyard dining. Renovated brick work historical bank right in downtown old town Kamloops. Building turned into restaurant with local wines (white are wonderful) and food. Service with excellent. Enjoyed the ambiance, dishes and overall experience. Very happy to have found this unique local restaurant.

Yelp
During our road trip from Jasper to Vancouver, we stopped in Kamloops where we had dinner here. My husband and I shared the baked Brie with bread (good plate even though I think it was pricey for just cheese and bread), then I ate the Pan seared Pacific sockeye salmon while my husband the Bacon wrapped elk meatloaf. My fish was ok (it was a little bit undercooked, so I asked to cook it more). I liked sweet potato & yam mash. I didn't try my husband plate because of the bacon, but he really loved it. The portion are also big enough to satisfy us. The service was good (not annoying at all) and also the ambience of the restaurant was nice.

Yelp
Great service, Great Ambience, Great food however very very very very small portions. Bread, Appetizers, Dinner and Desert. Still left hungry.

Yelp
Brownstone is a wonderful restaurant and really a hidden gem in Kamloops. The restaurant took over a former CIBC bank. They cleverly worked their restaurant decor with the historic bank's architecture. It has high ceilings and multiple connected dining areas. You can always find something to look at when you sit inside. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. The servers were all very speedy and provided good recommendations when we told them it's our first time visiting the restaurant. We ordered two appetizers (sausage and a soup), as well as two mains (ahi tuna and steak). The ahi tuna was cooked to perfection and the flavour combinations were on point. The steak was also grilled to a medium rare with good char marks. We also ordered a flight of BC wine as per our server's suggestion. Every dish was prepared with care and great attention to detail. We can tell they emphasize on freshness and focus on bringing out the best of each ingredient. Overall we were thoroughly impressed by the service, ambiance and their food. It was elegant and well executed. I highly recommend anyone visiting Kamloops to at least dine here for one of their meals.

Yelp
Who wouldn't recommend the Brownstone! Awesome food. Beautiful, historic location. It can't be beat. I always have steak at the Brownstone; I can't resist. The service is, without exception, impeccable.

Yelp
Food is average, service was good and the ambiance was pretty cool. The place looks like a small chapel turned into a dinning room which I thought was pretty cool. I've been there twice and both times I wasn't too impressed with their food. My friends, my parents, my husband and I all agree that the food is kind of bland and simple. Overall an ok experience.

Yelp
I would give this 10 stars if I could. We had a birthday party last night. Patio was perfect. Service was perfect. Food was perfect. Timing was perfect. Drinks were perfect. Did I mention everything was perfect ?? Menu is perfect also.

Yelp
I recently went with a relative and was expecting the food to be much better than it was. I had went many years ago when a group was doing a 'Fawlty Towers' dinner theatre there, which was amazing, as was the food. We all had duck, and it was the best I'd ever had, tender and melt in your mouth. I couldn't believe duck could taste so good. So going back I was expecting to be able to order the duck and have a similar experience. Unfortunately, it was tough and chewy. The sauce was like a broth in consistency, thin and watery. The plates were hardly warm, and it took a very long time to arrive at our tables. My relatives seafood in a broth also was quite tepid, the prawns were overcooked, rubbery and tough, as were the scallops. Our starters and the bread bowl were probably better than the mains were. Goes to show, just because you have the skill to put delicious-sounding things on the menu doesn't mean you have the skill actually to make them delicious (or hire the skill, I guess).

Yelp
The building sets the scene for some very carefully curated cuisine! This is the best of what Kamloops has to offer in elevated farm to table. I am so pleased that we have somewhere like this to go to eat in what can sometimes feel like a desert wasteland of endless lacklustre pub food. The plates here are very creative and flavour forward. Excellent Service and imaginative cocktail concoctions wrap the dining in a pretty little bow.In my mind it is comparable to the offerings of "The Mustard Seed" and "The French Laundry" in Napa! Beautiful! We shall dine here for all our special occasions.

Yelp
Make reservations! This place was packed on Monday night and they were turning some people away. They sat me at the bar with no reservation since I was alone. Great food, but slow service. I'm guessing because they were busy, but the food came out quick. I had the elk meatloaf, which was tasty. The mashed potatoes were the best part of the dish. They are only open for dinner.

Yelp
We finally got around to trying this restaurant after having it on our list for years. The clientele on a weekday dinner service was work-professional & retired baby boomers with a mix of younger couples. We got great service and didn't have to wait long for our courses. The steak a decent cut and well prepared but I still prefer my own (first world problems!). The seasonal veggies were perfectly executed and our appies were eaten with no survivors. I sampled a few martinis and my partner had some of the sangria on special. We would recommend Brownstowne for date nights in downtown Kamloops.

Yelp
Outstanding meals every time. Servers are always very well informed and always polite and courteous

Yelp
I was super excited to go to this restaurant as it was very highly rated. We went there for our anniversary and was seated at the very back corner. It was hot and stuffy as there was no a/c. They had a big fan at the back corner right behind my husband which kept blowing at my face the whole time and drying my eyes out. We couldn't turn it off otherwise it would be way too hot. And if that was not bad enough, there were tons of flies everywhere! We ordered the mussels for appy and the flies just kept swarming at us...at our food. I spent more time trying to shoo them away then enjoying my meal. The food, I must admit, was delicious. The server was fantastic. I would have given 5 stars if my actual time there was more enjoyable. For a restaurant with such high ratings and pricey menu I would have at least expect a/c and have no flying insect problems. It was not an enjoyable meal.

Yelp
Lunch is open from 11am-2pm. We decided to make our way for some early lunch. We arrived at 11:30am and was promptly seated. After listening to the lunch special and pouring over the menu, we decided on bison burger and oyster po'boy. We placed our orders at 11:49am. Lunches arrive at 11:57am. The meals are delicious and large portions! For the price we paid ($14-15), it is well worth it. The food is well seasoned and ingredients used are fresh. We will definitely come back again.

Yelp
//OVERALL THOUGHTS// Worth every penny for the stunning main courses and great service. I recommend the Elk meatloaf and Lamb shank. //THE FOOD// APPETIZERS: Saltspring mussels- the mussels were incredibly tender and the sauce was a light creamy taste with some mild spiciness. There was a side of their in-house daily bread which was great for soaking up the sauces! The bread was soft and light on the inside with fennel seeds & chilli flakes and the crust was thin and crispy. Bison Capriccio - beautiful medium rare, there was an expected toughness to the meat but the flavours & textures worked well with the eggplant, creme fraiche & crunchy Baguette. ENTREES: Pan roasted Duck Breast - the duck had a great cook on it and the brandied cherry demiglaze gave just the right touch of sweetness. I especially loved the creamed potatoes and roasted veggies on the side too ! Bacon wrapped Elk meatloaf - hands down the best Elk dish I've ever had. The meatloaf wasn't dry at all since the bacon kept its moisture in. The loaf was seasoned great and with the bacon combined, there was no gameness to it! It sat on a bed of mashed potatoes and kale (which was too big & chewy IMO). I could care less about the green beans, it was underdone and flavourless. Braised Lamb shank with gnocchi - the lamb was tender and moist even with how lean the meat was. The sauce was sweet and paired great with the peas, rocket greens, and roasted onions. The gnocchi being fried was a surprise and it actually gave the entire dish a nice crispy texture without being to heavy. Everything on this dish was so cohesive. //VENUE & ETC.// The venue was cozy, intimate, with a touch of class. Our waiter was great, he had awesome recommendations, checked on us just enough without being annoying, and our water was always filled. I asked for extra bread as well because there was so much mussel sauce left to be had and he brought out freshly baked slices (with butter) without charging extra.

Yelp
Best steak in a long time, veggies cooked exactly to the point, perfect seasoning and presentation, very friendly server. Could not imagine any of this any better!

Yelp
We were staying in Kamloops on our way to BC and decided to visit this restaurant after seeing some reviews but what a disappointment the prices were very high which was ok for a good restaurant but the food was terrible as we had elk wrapped in bacon which was tasteless as there was no seasoning in the meatloaf, very poor for supposedly done by a chef. Would not recommend this place.
google avatar

Bryan A.

Yelp
I had the seared Kamloops Trout and it was absolutely amazing! My partner had the Elk meatloaf which was also excellent. Service was exceptional. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Wendy L.

Yelp
I had the clam and prawn dish. It was delicious. My partner had the duck, that was superb. It was fine dining at its best (for me anyways). Definitely, highly recommended. Finished off with a lemon tart for dessert. Again, it was awesome. If i was a local it would be my ultimate favourite place to go to.

Yelp
Perfect choice for dinner while traveling through Kamloops. Rainbow trout with fresh locally sourced vegetables was amazing, excellent service and good wine list. Outside patio is perfect for evening dining. Reasonably priced.

Yelp
Arrived in Kamloops today and saw this place on Yelp. Definitely deserves it's high star rating. Friendly staff, good service, beautiful food. I had the Elk meatloaf wrapped in bacon with the side greens on mash. My colleagues had the same dish and we all loved it! Nice decor inside without being over the top fancy. Reasonably priced... most of the mains were $25-$30 CAD. Would definitely eat here again.

Robert T.

Yelp
Had an excellent meal and cocktails. Very nice ambiance and excellent service. They make very good manhattans. The Elk meatloaf wrapped in bacon was to die for. The dessert sampler was heaven.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and terrific service! I enjoyed the mussels for a appetizzer, the portion was ridiculously huge. My wife ordered the burger, she recieved a 1/2 pan of meat loaf on a brioche bun. It was huge... And flavorful! You must try the Privota wine, very tasty !
google avatar

Josh L.

Yelp
Probably one of the best places to eat in Kamloops, which is not saying much. There were not a lot of great eating spots in the city. Mostly just places with food where you can leave and say... I am full. The Brownstone was really just middle of the road. I would say it is a good place to go to if you are in Kamloops as it may be one of the best places to eat. The outside seating area is a pretty quaint area. You are on small tables with red brick walls on all sides. The service is just okay. My water was always full and the server checked on us throughout. Like I said, just an okay place. Nothing to write your mother about.

Lyse B.

Yelp
Amazing dinner and fantastic service! Exceeded all our expectations. The food is delicious. The house cocktail is my new favorite! The wonderful lady showed me how to make it so I can make it at home. Wonderful dining experience! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
What a darling little restaurant tucked away in downtown Kamloops! quaint and unique with an exceptional menu and great service. I always look forward to their daily drink special too. The turkey poutine is out of this world and the elk meat loaf is a close, close second.
google avatar

Yelp
We ate here on December 27, 2017 and everything was fantastic. Lovely old building, super service, great cocktails, good wine suggestion, and every food we ordered was absolutely wonderful! I wish I lived nearer so I could return frequently.
google avatar

Yelp
Almost walked past this place as it's in an old brick building with little signage out front. It was a nice eve so i sat on their patio which is a courtyard with lots of charm but was a little quiet. I also noticed they were growing fresh herbs that the chefs would come out and pick. Walked by the kitchen and saw (and smelled) the fresh bread that just came out of the oven. So obviously I had to try that. I think it was only a few bucks on the appetizer section. I then had their lamb kebab which comes with a cucumber yoghurt and a very flavorful hummus. I was impressed with the large portions for dinner. Everything tasted good. Service was good. Overall a solid place.
google avatar

Dwayne B.

Yelp
The food is excellent. All of their proteins are nose to tail cuts. I love it! Dale and Connie are fantastic hosts. The food is delicious and fresh. The menu selection is great; not too much and not to little. I recommend this place to anyone visiting Kamloops.
google avatar

Rod B.

Yelp
This restaurant is a gem. Great old building. We ate in the courtyard outside which was a real treat. Food was excellent. We both had the romaine salad and then the salmon and chicken biryani. Ambience is fist class as was the service. Didn't think I would find this quality in Kamloops.
google avatar

Dwight B.

Yelp
Been here four times when in Kamloops every time I have had a great meal and great service drinks specials are great and food awesome

Yelp
Very pleased we stubbled across this place. Very good food and friendly staff. Received a nice wine recommendation and all the entrees were nicely executed.

Diana H.

Yelp
I was touring around on the Rocky Mountaineer train got off in Kamloops, didn't expect Kamloops would have any food worth mentioning, so happy I was Wrong! Brownstone located in an old restored bank, the service was perfect, my martini made with the local SIDS vodka perfect, and the food was fresh, and delicious, I had the rosemary toasted with greens, so perfect, I followed that with the onion fennel soup, heaven, I wish I had a bigger stomach and more time to enjoy all the dishes! Thank you Kamloops for Brownstone!

Valarie A.

Yelp
Hi there! A super terrific place to eat! The Kelowna Merlot is amazing! I've never tried elk before so it should be interesting to say the least!

Chad H.

Yelp
Great dinner and drinks, had the lamb sirloin and it was amazing. Everyone at our table loved the dishes, they had fantastic and interesting sides that complemented the mains perfectly. Service was great as well! Will be back.

Michael P.

Yelp
First timer, great setting lots of character, nicely spaced settings, friendly and well attentive service The food excellent, kinda homey but with distinct biases to fresh local ingredients and a flair for adding little bits of this and that which makes the entree different and special from what one would typically order I had the special ground elk and served As a patty wrapped in bacon with all the trimmings lightly spiced mashed potatoes garnished with slightly sautéed tomatoes fresh beans. My wife had game hen again with all the fresh trimming including a lovely bed of beets and other vegetables We both were impressed and having lived in Vancouver for so many years a delight to see top quality and very reasonably priced restaurant in Kamloops We will definitely return to see and taste some more chef creations
google avatar

Kaz V.

Yelp
Food was good, I would come back. Had the mussels to start and the sirloin steak special. Mussels were good, but not fantastic. Steak was a little over done, and not hot, but tasted fantastic. Stilton and mushroom tart was the bomb. Creme brule was also amazing.

Amanda K.

Yelp
Amazing food, staff, and atmosphere! You are really paying for the quality and you are getting the highest! I love coming here and we will continue to come back!

Chris C.

Yelp
I don't leave a lot reviews - Sebastian Maniscalco pops into my head "you're going to tattle??" But this place deserves my feedback - simply a great deal, very excellent food under priced.
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
Probably the fanciest restaurant in town. Upscale dining with small portions. Menu is delicious
google avatar

Cameron W.

Yelp
This nicely restored building was built in 1910 as a bank and later became a jail. The Brownstone has been here for 11 years and deserves to stay here. The Romaine salad was fresh and tasty, with bacon a surprise in what is nearly a Caesar. The Chicken Biryani was a bit short of the expected Indian flavoring, and the described almonds were absent, added later by request. Butternut squash ravioli is a winner. Hot rosemary baguette slices were wonderful. Our shared flourless chocolate cake came with vanilla ice cream and was drizzled with caramel. The prices seem about right for this level of a restaurant. Ours came to $66 plus tax and tip.
google avatar

Yelp
Best spinach salad ever and I'm a spinach freak. Outstanding service, excellent wines and deliciously fresh entrees all made for a most memorable repast and visit to Kamloops.

Dwight W.

Yelp
Stumbled across this gem on a Sunday night when several other places were closed. No reservations, but they worked us in. The escargots were the best I've ever had. Mushrooms and cream sauce and bread to sop up the sauce. I had duck breast which was perfectly cooked and my wife had seared trout which was also awesome. Loved the atmosphere. No A/C but who cares?
google avatar

Nick B.

Yelp
Family came here for moms birthday last year. Was an absolute delight. She was blown away by the quality of meat, the perfectly cooked dinner and lovely service. Everyone here was happy, helpful, and ready to serve. Although it's pricey, it's worth EVERY PENNY. I'd go back here in a heartbeat.
google avatar

Jason D.

Yelp
I have been here a few times and it's consistently good. Decent wine list and locally sourced food. I have had the duck a few times and it's worth a try.

Yelp
Without question, Brownstone is the best restaurant in Kamloops. Do not miss out on the chance to sample Dale's braised beef or his dish of pork 3 ways. Truly excellent. Also excellent is their current appetizer sampler platter - my husband and I shared it the other night, and there was almost a fork battle over each item! I also love their creative drink specials, and their ever-changing dessert share plates. People sometimes think of it as a "fancy" restaurant, but in reality, the prices are the same as or lower than Earl's or Milestones. Yet, in contrast to these chain-style restaurants, Brownstone uses fresh, local ingredients, expertly prepared to order every time. The menu is always creative, and it changes often. Contrary to the previous reviewer, I have never thought of the portions as small. It's not the type of restaurant where you leave hungry. The service is always excellent, and you simply cannot get better value for a dining experience in Kamloops. It is my absolute favourite restaurant in Kamloops, whether I'm looking for a quick lunch, a casual dinner or a special occasion place. A close second is Terra Restaurant up the street. Also great food and great value.

Jess D.

Yelp
After we attempted to go to Terra and it was full, the gal there recommended Brownstone. I am SO glad she did! It was delicious! This was one of our pit stops on our drive from Calgary to Vancouver. The service was super friendly, though a bit short handed it seemed, and the food was delish! We had a speciality cocktail called Black Sage and then appetizers consisting of romaine salad, beet salad, and mussels that were all awesome. For dinner I had the lamb that had an accompanying Harissa sauce. YUM YUM YUM! And for dessert the flourless chocolate cake was the best I've ever had! (no joke) I would definitely recommend this place!

James K.

Yelp
I liked my entrée and the service, I wasn't wowed by anything in particular but at the same time wasn't let down. If you are looking for a safe night out I would go here, if you are looking for something inspiring or over the top I would look elsewhere
