Bruce Bell Tours — Tour Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Zoom out. What’s the big picture here? Actor, comedian, historian, and proud Torontonian Bruce Bell leads this highly entertaining one-man show, which is a perfect excursion for those who don’t love cookie-cutter tours. You’ll meet your small group at the St. Lawrence Market—be sure to make reservations in advance—and travel on foot around the bustling building and the surrounding Old Town neighborhood. Cool. Tell us about your fellow tourees. Because this is one of the most popular tours in Toronto, your group will likely be a mixed bag of families, friends, and couples of all ages and nationalities. In general, the crowd is sociable and game for fun. There's a lot of walking at a fairly quick pace, so if you have mobility issues, call in advance to square away the logistics. How are the guides, then? Thanks to his deep roots in the community, Bruce Bell is a Toronto celebrity—he’ll almost certainly stop to say hello to locals shopping the market. Between his extraordinary knowledge of the city’s history, architecture, pop culture, and pretty much any other topic you can think of, and his flawlessly comedic delivery of information, Bell leads an engaging, entertaining, and informative tour. He’s got a pretty set route, but if you’ve got any special requests or questions, he’s happy to oblige. Anything you’ll be remembering weeks or months or years from now? Bell’s entertaining delivery of fun facts certainly makes the tour special, and you’ll likely want to sign up for another. Luckily for you, he also offers private tours of other Toronto neighborhoods and attractions. I like it. So: money, time—how can we make the most of both? Whether it’s your first trip to Toronto or your fifth—or even if you’re a local—you’re sure to learn something fascinating." - Stefanie Waldek

I went on two of Bruce's walking tours in Toronto - the Financial District Architecture tour and the St. Lawrence Market Neighborhood tour. Enjoyed both immensely and learned a lot about my home city. Bruce is passionate about Toronto history and it shows! Be a tourist in your own city first during the pandemic. Have a #staycation. Highly recommended.

We had a fabulous tour with Bruce. He shared a great deal of history and interesting information about Toronto and Canada. We toured the St. Lawrence Market and several places in the neighborhood. He is extremely knowledgeable and knows everyone! If you are in Toronto don’t miss the chance to meet Bruce. Highlight of our trip.

Amazing walking tour with Bruce this morning! His knowledge is second to none, and a bloody nice bloke as well. For history of Toronto, Canada and everything in between Bruce is the King! 2.5 hours of fun, facts and fables. If you want to know anything about Toronto be sure to ask Bruce. ❤️❤️🇨🇦 🇦🇺

I can’t give a more positive review, Bruce was instantly so warm and generous with his knowledge of the city. I’ve lived in Toronto forever but hearing stories and seeing locations around historic St Lawrence Market makes me finally feel ✨connected✨ to Toronto. What a lovely and layered city we live in. History is being written every day! Can’t wait to learn more from this absolute icon of Toronto

Bruce is a brilliant tour guide! I’m a Torontonian, (moved to NYC), back on vacation with friends, and we all learned SO much about our city from Bruce!! He knows EVERYBODY! Seriously, it’s like taking a walk with a celebrity. “Hiya Bruce! Hey Bruce! Bruce, c’est va?” The Market is part of my childhood, and Bruce was very knowledgeable and VERY patient with my 1000 questions. But Bruce is on a mission! He’s focused on showing you the Toronto of old and how it has grown up into today’s Toronto. He is so knowledgeable he writes the history column for The Bridge News, (as seen in the photo), and I swear he is the impetus for every historical plaque in the area! Bruce is, to me, a new Toronto tradition upon arrival… 1. Peameal on a bun from Carousel Bakery 2. Take a tour with Bruce Bell Bravo Bruce!!!

Bruce was an INCREDIBLE guide for my family & I, in and around the St. Lawrence Market. Once he found out we were there because of a family member on a Broadway tour he focused on the performance spaces at St. Lawrence Hall and shared more of his background as an actor. Overall, a great experience - wonderful blend of history, current affairs of the area, and entertainment!

We are locals interested in our hood "Old Toronto" ... Bruce took us on a two hour historical walkabout. I've done tours all over the world and honestly this was the best! Don't miss it if you are visiting Toronto! Bruce is personable, funny, engaging AND a walking encyclopedia about Toronto. Thanks Bruce!

Just returned to Sudbury from Toronto where Bruce shared his wonderful knowledge of both cities since Bruce spent his growing up years here. A true entertainer and a must for Toronto site seeing.
