Bruny Island is such a special place there’s this calm you just can’t explain. It’s perfect for a day trip, though I’d love to go back in summer and spend more time on those amazing beaches. If you’re in Hobart, it’s definitely worth the visit. You can do it all in a day.

This is my thought on Bruny island nice place but over rated and hyped up so I felt a little let down. Good for a day trip unless you are fishing or like big walks stay overnight, half the places were shut. Driving around people don’t now how to stay in there lane as a lot of gravel roads.

Excellent food. Excellent sceneries. The whiskey shop is very beautiful inside and outside. Should spend a night on the island instead of a day trip.

Bruny Island delivers that perfect Tasmanian mix of wild coastline, quiet farmland and local flavour, all packed into a day-trip distance from Hobart. The short ferry ride sets the tone: turquoise water, seabirds wheeling above and, if you are lucky, a dolphin escort. Once you roll off the ramp at Roberts Point the pace instantly slows, and a single winding road guides you between sheltered bays on the d’Entrecasteaux Channel side and dramatic surf beaches on the ocean side. The North and South sections of the island each have their own personality. North Bruny is all gentle hills and sleepy hamlets where roadside stalls sell fresh oysters, berries and honey on an honesty-box system. South Bruny is the show-stopper, home to Adventure Bay’s long curve of white sand, the soaring dolerite cliffs around the Neck Lookout and the postcard-worthy Cape Bruny Lighthouse. Even on a busy weekend it is easy to find space: pull over at a random lay-by, walk a few minutes through peppermint forest, and you will likely emerge onto a beach with no footprints but your own. Local produce makes exploring even better. A platter of Bruny oysters and a glass of cool-climate riesling at lunchtime, then a wedge of the island’s famous cheese with cider in the late afternoon, feels like the right way to measure time here. Wildlife is never far away either. Bennetts wallabies graze at dusk, fur seals bark from offshore rocks, and fairy penguins shuffle back to burrows along the Neck after dark. Accommodation ranges from basic campsites to architect-designed eco-lodges, yet the island keeps its low-key charm. Mobile coverage can be patchy, which turns out to be a bonus because sunsets look much better in real life than on a screen. Roads are sealed but narrow and often shared with livestock, so take it slow, enjoy the scenery and give yourself time to stop for spontaneous walks. Bruny Island manages to feel both remote and welcoming, rugged yet deliciously comfortable, and it rewards curiosity at every turn. Five stars without hesitation.

Beautiful part of Tasmania accessible via a fantastic Ferry. Even in the worst inclement weather, a beautiful day out.

Beautiful relaxed day trip or camp around destination, 30mins drive and 20min ferry ride south of Hobart. 1 day is definitely not enough time to see enough as you won't even be able to scratch the surface and enjoy enough of what Bruny has to offer, it's far bigger than it seems. Probably better to go in the off season so it's not so busy as it's incredibly popular for tourists and bus adventures.
