"Brussels City Museum and a Famous Wardrobe The Brussels City Museum is located inside the Maison du Roi (or King’s house), the dark grey, Gothic building on Grand Place. Once the home of the baker’s guild, it is also known as the Broodhuis, in Flemish. These days, this beautiful building houses the city museum, a collection of artefacts from Brussels’ Medieval past. Here you will find sculptures, ceramics, tapestries, maps, and altarpieces from the glory days of Belgian craftsmanship. Upstairs, there is another unique reason to visit the City Museum. It houses the wardrobe of one of the city’s most famous inhabitants - Manneken Pis. Brussels’ mascot of the small peeing boy has been gifted costumes from around the world. In his closest, you’ll find everything from an astronaut’s space suit to a Canadian hockey jersey. He can dress up like Elvis or a bag-piper or even Santa Claus. The city museum is a bite-sized collection and is easy to see in just a couple of hours. It’s a nice way to get an overview of Brussels’ history."

The museum is a magnificent building showcasing Brussels' rich history. It features a compelling collection of paintings, artwork, silverware, and porcelain, as well as a fascinating exhibit on tapestry restoration techniques. The museum also houses the original Manneken Pis statue; the statue displayed in the city centre is a replica to safeguard the original. My visit was highly enjoyable. Conveniently located in the Grand Place, opposite the town hall, I highly recommend a visit.

Located right on Grand Place, the Brussels City Museum offers a great overview of the city’s history, from medieval times to today. Highlights include detailed models and the original Manneken Pis with his quirky outfits. Some exhibits feel a bit dated and there’s limited interactivity, but the building itself is stunning and the museum is well worth a visit—especially if you enjoy quiet, uncrowded spaces.

The Museum of the City of Brussels is a must-see for anyone who wants to learn about the rich history of this fascinating city. Located in the heart of the Grand Place, the museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts, maps, and artwork that showcase the city's evolution over the centuries. The exhibits are well-organized and informative, providing a captivating glimpse into the events and personalities that have shaped Brussels. I highly recommend this museum

Excellent museum, definitely use the free audio guide. Ticket to this place also gives you access to the costume museum for the fountain boy statue.

Located at Grote Markt van, 1000 Brussels, Belgium 🇧🇪. Conceived in 1860 and inaugurated in 1887, this museum is dedicated to the history and folklore of the City of Brussels from its foundation into modern times, which it presents through paintings, sculptures, tapestries, engravings, photos and models, including a notable scale-representation of the town during the Middle Ages. The building was erected between 1504 and 1536 and is situated on the north side of the Grand Place in Brussels. It was rebuilt in the 19th century in its current neo-gothic style and it was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998. The museum features an incredible range of tems including paintings, tapestries and sculptures. The original statue of Manneken Pis is on view on the top floor. The City Museum is open every day except Mondays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On the first Sunday of every month, admission to the museum is free. Otherwise, the ticket prices are - Adult €8.00 Children (under 18 years) FREE Seniors €6.00 Students €4.00 The museum is in a historical building that has no lift 🛗 and the upper levels are only accessible by stairs so people in wheelchairs or have mobility issues will have difficulty getting around the museum. We spent around 4 hours at the museum taking our time exploring and reading the stories at the artifacts. . There’s so much to see and we really loved the stained glass work and the woodwork. The view of the Grand Place from the balcony is incredible. I would definitely recommend a visit. Thumbs up!!! 👍👍👍

Located in the former house of the Duke of Brabant, this is a city museum covering the history of Brussels. The ground floor has a large porcelain collection showcasing Belgian pottery manufacturing back in the day. The 2nd floor has a great model of the city during the middle ages with many buildings still standing today. This floor has lots of paintings of the city. The top floor has an exhibition dedicated to Manneken Pis with several sculptures, some dressed thematically.

A must-see museum of the city just around the square.

Yelp
The Museum Brussels is in the King's House in the Grand Place . Admission was €12 reduced for children & seniors. The house is grand & filled with silver, porcelain, pottery sculptures, fountains, paintings & stories. We saw the history & development of Brussels & information about the Mannekin Pis. I would have liked info about the king that lived here. The staff on each floor looked like statues. We spent an hour here.

Yelp
This is also located on the Grand Place, and the museum is basically an exploration of the history of Brussels. There are quite a few paintings here, but also statues, and even an area upstairs where you get to seem them in the process of restoring one of the old paintings. The other thing that there are a lot of are the tapestries, and the main reason for that was because of the huge textile industry that existed in times past. In fact it is the textile industry that not only made this region really, really wealthy but also spurred Europe down the capitalist path (though that has begun to change in recent times).

Yelp
I love checking out museums whether in my city of when I traveling to other cities. But to be honest, I was a bit disappointed about this museum. As I read their reviews online, most of people recommended this place to visit. But for me, the museum was just ok. Here is my experience. The museum itself wasn't as big as I expected. The ground floor held different religious artworks and some special equipments. There were not many of them, but some of them were quite interesting. We went up with the stairs, at the second floor was the collection of Brussels city, mainly focused on the history of the city hall, quite interesting, but again not many of them. The top held two different exhibitions, one of this this room the collection inside will change time to time. The other room is the collection of "Manneken Pis", this was the highlight of the museum. It was really cool, I did wish it could be bigger. The good thing, the museum is right in front of the city hall, it doesn't take long to find it. The architecture looks also great, just inside a bit small. If you just to see the collection of "Manneken Pis" , why not give it a short trip. But for normal visit, I am not sure if it's worth it.

Yelp
We stayed about 0.8 miles from here so we were able to walk to this place everyday we were in Belgium. The place is rather breathtaking from the outside and the inside showed the outfits of the peeing boy, it's adorable but it also talks about the history of the peeing boy. A cute little stop to check out while in Brussels, As soon as you step outside, there's restaurants and little shops for you to enjoy right outside, rather intriguing.

Yelp
If you have time to kill while hanging out in the Grand Place, or if you are dying to see the cute little outfits that have been gifted to Mannequin Pis, then this museum is worth a stop. (And - reallly - those outfits ARE adorable!) The building itself is impressive.

Yelp
It was cheap and we really just wanted to see the peeing man outfits, but for just that collection, it was worth it. Nice to get a little piece of history in the midst of our "Eat ALL the FOODS" day trip to Brussels.
