"Sometimes in the course of human events, it becomes necessary to throw an elaborate pirate-themed dinner party in a 19th-century brewery’s basement. At Bube’s Brewery and Catacombs in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, that necessity arises at least once a month. These lavish occasions are hosted in the brewery’s underground Catacombs Restaurant, a beer-aging cellar that doubles as a fine-dining establishment and, occasionally, a pirate’s ship, with actors in period costumes rubbing elbows with guests dining on multiple courses and, of course, the restaurant’s own microbrews. It’s an occasion as colorful as the history of this inn and pub, which has been quenching visitors’ thirsts since 1876. The brewery was established by one Alois Bube, a German immigrant who capitalized on the 19th-century popularity of lagers in the United States to launch his own enterprise. He was in luck to have ended up in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania: At the time, it was known as the “Munich of the New World” due to its thriving German beer scene. Over the years, Bube built his establishment into a beer behemoth, with a labyrinthine premises including a bar, the “catacombs,” and an inn that featured the town’s first flushing toilet. The brewery, like other such establishments, was shut down during Prohibition, but by that time the family had become so wealthy that Bube’s descendants were able to keep the building, which remained untouched until 1968, when they remodeled and reopened. Today, Bube’s Brewery looks like a cross between a Renaissance fair (which it becomes during monthly medieval feasts) and a Victorian haunted house (which it becomes during regular ghost tours). The inn has retained the spirit of its original construction—including its shared bathrooms—with the exception of a top-floor penthouse and lavish themed decorations. The current brewery, meanwhile, is housed in the original ice house. The establishment’s star attraction remains the Catacombs Restaurant. Descend 43 feet underground to the stone-lined basement, complete with enormous wooden barrels, and you will surely feel you have traveled back in time, especially when you encounter a tableful of fellow diners clad in medieval costumes." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

If you want a fun, interesting and unique place to get a bite to eat and maybe even some entertainment, then this is the place. Industrial decor and catacombs downstairs as deep as 35 feet below ground level. Great food selections and plenty of variety on drink options. If you are looking for a really unique and fun time sign up for one of the feasts in the catacombs. There is also outside seating when weather is nice. Live music on Sat night and some other nights.

I went to this place for diner after a day of hiking. The waiter downstairs offered an excellent service and the food was amazing. Not too pricy for the place and the service. I would have given them 5 stars if the hostess upstairs wasn’t so rude and Unwelcoming. We did not have a reservation, however, the bartender told us somebody had cancelled, so he would get us that table if they didn’t show up in 30 minutes. This made the hostess even more upset for no reason, it was like she didn’t want us in there. Made it very hostile for us, because we didn’t have a reservation. When we went downstairs, there were more than enough empty tables available, although not as many waiters. The caves were awesome and everybody was very nice( except from that lady by the front) the steak was on point, hands down to the chef!

Had an absolutely wonderful time at Bube’s! Make sure to make a reservation at their dining in the catacombs, because this experience is truly one of a kind. The experience starts off with a little tour of the catacombs and parts of what the building started off as - a hotel. You end with being seated in a very aesthetic area of the catacombs. Our waiters were very nice, and even compensated part of the meal as the some of the food took very long to come out. Our waiter was very attentive and made sure to check on us! The food was really good - the salmon and chicken entrees were delicious. The bruschetta appetizer was also tasty. While waiting for our table, the bar is available for you to order drinks: their holiday drinks are tasty, especially the gingerbread spiced ones!

We dined in The Catacombs restaurant, but arrived early for our reservation so had cocktails at the bar on the main level. Good service with friendly attitude at the bar. The Catacombs were exquisite- the food was delectable, and priced fairly for the excellent quality. Atmosphere was charming and calming; the service was exceptional. Jude was not only our drinks fellow but had a roaring conversation with my other half all about English soccer teams. (We were the last couple seated and it was nice to have so much one-on-on attention.) Kendra was our main food server and she was wonderful too. Lobster bisque, which was seasoned perfectly, and heated to a perfect temperature, with enormous lump lobster in it and Stuffed Mushrooms were scrumptious! He ordered the Pork Alois, a meal for for a king and equally as tasty, and I had the salmon- excellently seasoned and served. We both had cocktails, ginger beer, and coffee; all was stupendous. Highly recommend for an intimate evening our and a unique, delicious dining experience.

Very unique place! Loved the atmosphere and the history. Definitely take the catacomb tour!! The food was ok, a solid 6/10, for us. Not bad, but nothing particularly special and the portions were a bit small, with the size of the Mac and Cheese being an exception. The beers were tasty and smooth. The staff was delightful and seemed to care. We would return for the experience, not necessarily the meal. Pork chop; dry and glaze dried quickly, making it impossible to get on the chop. Green beans were fresh but unseasoned. Mashed potatoes were good. Pulled Pork: decent, not a lot of meat, very standard tasting. Fries were excellent. Mac and Cheese: "wasn't horrible, but wasn't the best. Basic. "

Bube's checks all the boxes: Great food, amazing brews and a treasure trove of history and industrial atmosphere from a hundred years ago. My burger was juicy and the onion rings were crispy, crunchy and not greasy. I'll definitely be back.

I came here after a hike with friends and we really wanted to see what this place was about! The inside of the restaurant definitely didn't disappoint, and the drinks and food were pretty good too! I ordered fish and chips and I will say that the fish could've been more seasoned, but the fries were perfect! Come for the food & stay for the awesome interior, or vice versa! Either way, it was a unique spot that I'd be willing to try again!

There isn’t an experience quite like the catacombs here, it was really unique! Our server was great and the beers were fantastic. The food was ok, but the location and beer stole the show more than the food.

Yelp
Do you like dirt and dust? Are you a fan of bad service? Perhaps you don't want to cook the frozen food in your freezer and would rather pay for cooked frozen food....well than this is the place for you!!!! We drove out here with a party of 8 and asked for a seat in the bar area. The bar area was empty but only had tables of 4 set up. The hostesses seemed confused as to how they could ever accommodate a party of 8 in their dusty bar area. We suggested that we could do 2 tables next to each other and that seemed like a win! This place lives off of the catacomb seating. Fancier menu in a dark cave where the waiter tells you to put the lotion on the skin. It's weird and I don't get it. The bar area tries to follow the cave theme with allowing dust and dirt to settle on empty bottles that surround the bar area. If you take a moment to look around you realize you're about to eat a meal in the filthiest restaurant you have ever been to. How this place has ever past an inspection is mind blowing. Food time- we had the kids order food first because they were starving and if you have starving kids you feed those gremlins! My 9 year old got pasta and actually said "Mom, there is something wrong with my pasta"!!!! I could feed my kid uncooked pasta with red paint on it and he would think it was ok, yet somehow this place made my son think his pasta was bad!!! They deserve a reward for that. At this point we gave up. Adults didn't order, we slammed our average dusty beer, paid and walked out. The catacombs might be the spot to be, but the bar area should be set on fire! I believe there is a different menu for the fancy cave to eat in, so I can't comment on that but as for the dust bar - I would I go anywhere else.

Yelp
Do you like haunted vibes, dusty bottles, basement hangs, a cool, well-stocked bar, year-round halloween decorations, and a tasty variety of housemade beers? Bube's (purportedly pronounced "boo-bees") might be the place for you. Bube's is a unique. I mean, where else in PA can you dine in catacombs? Their complex houses both a bar and biergarden, as well. I think they also offer an array of eclectic lodging? It's basically a one stop shop - and it's reportedly haunted! COOL! Their chalkboard highlights nightly events ranging from trivia to open mic to karaoke. It's a great place to hang with a group or dine solo, with a little something for everyone. I tried the Irish Cream Stout and Rice Lager - both refreshing, flavorful, and good quality beers. We munched on some spicy battered shrimp and pretzel nuggets with cheese sauce - satiating snacks. Their broader food menu had way more options than what was online, with lots of different of sandwiches, pasta dishes, and entrees. The bar service left a little to be desired. It was slow when we popped in, and there was a number of staff just hanging around behind the bar. They were all nice enough, it was just a little...bizarre. Nothing that would stop me from coming back, though.

Yelp
Terrible food, and it's overpriced. Service slow and unfriendly. Haven't been back since the harsh report from the health department-unsanitary kitchen.

Kimberly B.

Yelp
ambiance 10 the catacombs made this ok. our service was ok. but the food was over priced and both our dishes were burnt.

Yelp
My Fiance and I had been wanting to visit here since hearing about it through friends . After viewing the website we were thrilled to learn more about the history and it said we would receive a tour . The history for sure we thought would add to our experience. We had a two hour drive one way to visit . We secured a 8:50 pm reservation for a Friday night . We were not seated until 9:30 pm . Not a word was said to us by staff about the wait ect . Not one fact about the establishment was said on our walk to be seated . Dinner was average . The service was good . My fiancés steak wasn't cooked how he asked . For a $ 50 steak I expected more . This was a early Valentines dinner for us . Disappointed after being so excited to visit here and letting co-workers ect know of our bday plans they to where curious about the brewery .

Yelp
Photos do not do this place justice! It is just too cool! The staff were all very accommodating and provided us with so much information on the history. The bar area is fun and has a lot of charm. The catacombs are very unique and romantic. They even gave us a tour with our catacombs reservation. The food was superb. I loved the lobster bisque and it had plenty of lobster in it. The risotto was very creamy and perfectly cooked. I was so impressed by this place, and cannot wait to come back!

Yelp
We drove from NJ for a two night getaway and for dinner at the Catacombs Restaurant. The atmosphere is truly unique. It started with a welcoming tour by Janae who was very friendly and had lots of information to share. She made us feel very welcome. Being in a cave with soft lighting is romantic! and Tristan the server was excellent--but, important message to the kitchen, PUT DOWN THE SALT SHAKER!!! We started with the crab stuffed mushrooms and they were so salty!!! There is no reason for that much salt (and I am someone who likes salty). I had the filet with blue cheese--it was OK, but overpriced. My husband enjoyed his seafood pasta. The beer was very good. But, by far the part that bothered me the most was how dirty it is where we were eating. You might say, it's in a cave!! of course it's going to be dirty. But that's not what I mean. Above us, the mini-split AC/Heat unit was filthy. I kept looking up and hoping it wouldn't turn on. And there was a terrible smell of old grease every where. Anyone who has ever worked in food services knows what I mean by that old grease smell of not fully cleaning the tables/ chairs/ floor around you. There is glass on top of the tables, but you still have to have clean tableclothes and they didn't seem fresh to me. After dinner, we thought we would go to the Biegarten for a drink. We asked if it was OK to go in just for a drink and while we were initially welcomed in by Janae, the atmosphere turned weirdly unfriendly once she left. We didn't know where to sit, tried to talk to the bartended but ended up just leaving. Would I suggest you visit? It depends on how strong your desire is for a unique dining experience. I read about the Catacombs and wanted to experience it. But I would only go back if I knew they improved the food and did a deep steam cleaning.

Yelp
This is a must-do! The whole damn place was awesome. Our server, Kier, was great. Our table was pre-set with glasses filled before we sat down. Super romantic. Food was outstanding. My wife ordered the salad and NY strip and I ordered the lobster bisque and Pork tomahawk. We were blown away by the amount of lobster in the bisque and the size of her salad. We also got a couple Bellinis and the peanut butter cake. It's not cheap but worth every penny. If we lived in the area, we would most definitely be regulars. Dress nice and make reservations. Great job, Bube's!

George ..

Yelp
The bar food was sub par. The grilled chicken sandwich was way over cooked and I had a hard time eating it. The Philly was also overcooked and too dry to eat. The staff was friendly but absent. This was the second time I tried this wonderful looking and historic building but it fell short again. Sadly I will not be returning to this establishment.

John S.

Yelp
Really liked the atmosphere and ambiance of the room. Entry was behind a yellow barn-looking door, opened up to a cellar-musty-stone-broody looking area. We went upstairs with our party of 8. Was really warm upstairs. The cocktails and food were pretty good. Our waitress seemed stressed and flustered tending to us and her other tables, getting us our drinks and ensuring they all came out together, forgetting a drink or two, sounding frustrated she forgot one or bothered to be asked for another. Price was alright. Probably won't go back as I know the cocktails were alright and the food was ok, service was just a bit underwhelming for how busy it wasn't.

Aubrey J.

Yelp
You certainly come to Bube's for the tour and the unique ambiance of the catacombs restaurant, but my party and I also loved the food! I ordered the Alfredo penne pasta, which was plated beautifully and was creamy, cheesy, and full of veggies. I do think that the plates are quite pricey given the actual quality and serving size of each dish, but you're also paying for the opportunity to dine in this setting. The service was fantastic, no complaints there. The only struggle was that it is poorly lit. I had to be that person using flash photography to take these pictures, but it certainly encouraged me and my party to be off our phones (which shone obnoxiously even with a quick notification check) and be present with each other.

Jennifer Z.

Yelp
Update.. Biergarten so relaxing and majestic. There salads are fresh & delicious. French fries are the BEST!!! French dip, wish it was on ciabatta roll instead. Meat was tender and flavorful. The roll they use now can't hold up.

Michael R.

Yelp
Multiple "sections" within one facility, depending on what you enjoy. This review is strictly for "The Catacombs" dining option. It goes without saying that the biggest draw to The Catacombs is the ambience. It feels like you're dining in a secret wine cellar location. The mood is perfect and almost feels like something a Disney park would try to create. There's nothing really quite like in this part of Pennsylvania. The food is okay. Not bad, not great. If you took away the ambience, it's probably mid-level restaurant type fare. Based on the ambiance and the price, the meal felt like a letdown. It just didn't match the other components. If anything, it almost might be better to strictly focus on turning the section into a wine tasting room with tapas, flatbreads and charcuterie. It feels like that could be a better fit than offering average steaks and chops. Still, all things considered, it was a memorable experience and I'm happy to have experienced it. I would just recommend other options if you're primarily focused on the meal itself.

Hilary G.

Yelp
My friend came to PA and I wanted to do something special and different. We got the only reservation left at 9:20PM on Saturday night before Valentine's Day. We had great service and it's beautiful. My steak was undercooked and the sever took it right back to the kitchen... which by the way is stairs and stairs away from the catacombs! My heel got stuck in the stairs so many times! The little tour in the beginning was very cute. They took $20 off our bill for the steak which wasn't necessary, but very much appreciated. And I left my purse in the catacombs and some wonderful man very much out of breath got it to me in the parking lot. It was a wonderful experience for both of us, thank you to the employees for making it wonderful. And thank you for the rose!

Craig F.

Yelp
Three stars for the food, add one more star for the atmosphere, and the 5th star is earned by James the Host! We had our first visit to Bube's and had a great experience, sitting in the Biergarten on a beautiful spring day! Our server was very friendly and welcoming and the décor/atmosphere was relaxing. The food was good, with large portions, but nothing that stood out as being amazing. The poutine was flavorful and had plenty of gravy, which is important. The pretzel bites were tasty and the IPA mustard sauce was delicious. I had the Mount Joy burger, which was good (standard burger) and came with a pile of French fries. I do have to commend them on the amount of fries and the quality they serve! My mother had the baked tomato soup, but wasn't a fan. We would definitely return to eat and try some of their specialty cocktails again in the future. Since this was our very first visit, James the Host, offered to give us a tour of the facilities, which was amazing! The historical knowledge and facts about the brewery and the family over the years that James shared topped off our visit. The tour had to last almost 20 minutes, which is a direct positive reflection on the brewery's focus on customer service. Due to this individualized attention and overall welcoming atmosphere created, we will return and recommend Bube's to friends and family!

Bill V.

Yelp
The Catacombs are very unique to have dinner. The food was good but not great to support the expense. Overpriced? I say yes. Excellent service while we were there, especially when asking about the beers. Clearly, the atmosphere is what you are paying for.

Cynthia K.

Yelp
super cool experience- Kelly the inns keeper was super accommodating and shared great stories of this eclectic building. The staff all around were attentive and friendly. bubes is the oldest functioning brewery in the country and the tour into the catacombs is a must see. The drinks were mediocre and our party of 6 rated meals as a 7 out of 10. This place is a must see!

Juli K.

Yelp
What a great experience at Bube's Brewery! We made reservations for dinner in the catacombs, followed by a ghost tour of the building. The building is amazing, all by itself. It's funky, vintage oldness is something you can't replicate. The experience of being there is cool, all by itself. But then we went down to the dining room underground and were seated. It's pretty dark down there and we needed to use our phones to read the menu. The menu is small, but has lots of interesting items. We were a party of three. I started with meatballs and really enjoyed them. My husband had a soup that wasn't chili, but was kind of like chili and was delicious. Our friend had French Onion Soup, which she raved about. For my entrée, I had a New York Strip Steak. It was topped with frizzled leeks and dried tomatoes. On the side I had broccoli and mashed potatoes. My steak was a little underdone to my taste but it was of good flavor and quality. It was a little difficult to see our food in the dark, but we managed to get nice photos of it, which I will attach. My husband had Creole Shrimp with Crab, which was served over rice. He loved it. It looked delicious. Our friend had the Alfredo Penne Pasta, to which she added chicken. It was one of those bowls that despite eating a lot, it never seems to empty. She ended up taking a good deal of it home. We all foolishly ordered dessert. I had cheesecake, that could have used a little more of the fruit topping, but was deliciously made, just the tiniest bit tart (the way cheesecake should be!) and very creamy. Our friend had a spice cake with cream cheese frosting, which she loved. Our ghost tour was a lot of fun. It was the last one ever for the paranormal investigator who led it. We went all through the building and learned a good deal about the family. We ended in a ballroom, where a wedding had actually taken place earlier in the day. While talking about the room, the lights in one corner of the room kept turning on and off. Whether that was planned and human controlled, I don't know, but it was certainly amusing.

Felix E.

Yelp
Wish I could leave a review about the food, but sadly we couldn't try it. We waited 20 minutes sitting in a table in the middle of a restaurant full with employees passing next to us, and nobody stopped to even offer water or take our order. We just got up and left. The place looked good, that's the only positive I'll give them.

Andrew J.

Yelp
A must experience in the catacombs. If you're anywhere close go check this place out. Staff was awesome and super into the place they work. Wish I could have done one of the shows they put on and I'm not normally into that sort of dinner theater. Just overall a really interesting place that should be experienced. Only the food was the one let down. Just basic, nothing special, not a ton of flavor. But really, you're here for the space. Beer is good though and worth a try.

Mike C.

Yelp
Went house hunting in Lancaster on Sunday and had to show my dad the awesomeness of this Brewery that withstood even the great depression, never closing since 1880! There were five brews to choose from that were made in the brewery on Sunday and I went with the Bestoke Pale Ale, very easy drinking brew that I would rate about a 6 out of 10 just not enough flavor. The place does offer an array of homemade cocktails and a very extensive list for mule drinks - the brewery makes homemade ginger beer so going with a mule (Vodka+Ginger Beer) in my opinion would be a safe bet. When I went to order the wings the waitress said they are not cooking fried wings only smoked due to the price of chicken going up. Yeah, I don't know I wanted to try them and they were above average with the Thai Chili sauce, the other half I got had Frank's mild sauce and I would not recommend. If you want Celery and a side of dipping sauce your looking at another $1.50 on top of the price per pound of wings. Coming to this brewery really is an experience and the free tour they give upon request for anyone is a must. If you come here with the right mindset that it is a fun time you are sure to enjoy yourself. Not sure when the next time I will be back to this place is but hey if you're looking for the Siamese Cat drawing they used to have hanging too late, a piece of the Catacombs now hangs on my wall : ) As always people SYOY!!!

Yelp
Food is awesome! Lodging is tiny 8x8 prison cell other than that a very cool place. ..............

Yelp
Really excellent. All of the food was delicious, especially the chocolate peanut butter cake which was the best I have had. Our server, Jack, was really outstanding. Overall highly recommended.

Yelp
The absolute best bisque soup I've ever had!!! The atmosphere in the Catacombs was beautiful, hauntingly perfect!! Love it!!

Yelp
We're from out of town but visit the area frequently to visit family. My parents have been to Bube's before so I've been dying to stop by! We were quickly seated for a Saturday night, I really wanted to sit downstairs but we had my niece and nephew with us so upstairs was the better choice for our party. We got our waters and drink orders in. We all tried mules and enjoyed them (Mexican and Hawaiian). None of the beers they offered seemed my type, except for maybe the Oktoberfest one. We all enjoyed our food! The burger was cooked perfectly, wasn't dry and had good flavor. My brother enjoyed the mac and cheese. My parents got the chicken sandwich and the Reuben and also were pleased with that. The only downside was our waitress didn't check back in until we finished our meal so we weren't able to order more drinks. I did the yelp check in and got a free dessert & it was delicious! Perfect peanut butter frosting paired with the chocolate cake. I definitely want to return with my husband and visit the catacombs downstairs & try that menu! Overall for a more unique restaurant and fun laid back vibe, I'd definitely recommend visiting!

Yelp
Simple, tasty and I would say healthy as it can be. I was sick and tired of the greasy food that other restaurants serve so I loved to eat such light food. I wish that size could be a little bit more but other than that I'm happy with everything

Yelp
Bube's Brewery was overall an ok experience. We were excited to come here for my dads birthday, but it was very underwhelming. Lots of things were not available when we went. The food we did get was ok. I personally got wings and Mac n cheese with Buffalo chicken. It was just average, nothing I was excited eating, and I'm a huge foodie. The water tasted funny too. In the end, my dad wanted to get dessert, but we were informed nothing will be available until 15 minutes, I forgot their reason to this. Probably won't come back again.

Yelp
Really cool place to eat at. If you are anywhere close by you should go for the experience. The staff is great. It can be a little pricey: but the food is good. It's a good meal with a memorable experience.

Yelp
First time here with a large group of people. Seated in upper floor. Because of the age of the building it felt like the floor is moving which gives it a sense of vertigo. Careful floors are unleveled and hard to feel comfortable. Probably because of size of our group burgers and fries were cold. The checks were not delivered so when going downstairs and using the bathroom and asking to pay they wanted us go back up to get check. When asking the employee if they would go get it they refused. Five people stood around hostess station and I just waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. I counted nine workers and a chef just wandering around . Waiter then talking about customer.

Yelp
I come here for the Biergarten for a relaxing drink outside under the shade trees. Some people come for the nightly entertainment like trivia and open mic but that's not my jam. The atmosphere is amazing indoors and out. The food and service can be hit or miss. Like all restaurants these days, staffing seems to be a real challenge. A lot of reviews on here that are bad. If you want to experience a totally unique aesthetic, history, and decent beers, it delivers.

Yelp
Came here for a nice dinner, sat at the outside bar. Drinks came quick, heard from the bartender that he may forget about us. Ordered apps and then didn't see him for 20 minutes, ordered entrees and waited another 20 minutes to get entrees. All the while listening to paramores fans screaming about their different dildos. Entrees came before apps and weren't even hot. Disappointing. Pasta was overcooked, food was bland and subpar. Not worth the money.

Yelp
I'm not even really sure where to begin. I truly was very excited for our murder mystery dinner at Bube's. I read the reviews and figured things would be good, but not great. I was sadly mistaken. The food for the murder mystery dinner was as follows: Course 1 - crostini/pesto spread/3 stale tortilla chips and terrible salsa Course 2 - iceberg lettuce a slice of cucumber and a disgusting "tomato vinaigrette" which tasted like tomato purée - I don't think there any oil/vinegar/balsamic anywhere in the dressing Course 3 - the worst of it all. "Roasted red pepper and sweet corn soup" - was served barely warm and tasted like tomato paste thinned out with water. There was zero flavor and I nearly gagged on the first bite. Course 4 - beef tips with some weird mustardy sauce. And what tasted like boiled chicken over a few noodles and some flavorless Alfredo sauce. Dessert - the only enjoyable part of the meal - chocolate cake with vanilla icing. Folks I don't write bad reviews unless I feel like it was a horrific experience. The acting and venue are very cool and unique. I'm not sure how they can even serve the dinner they serve for the murder mystery, it's basically inedible. Dinner and the show was $60 per person. You could easily serve even a medicore meal for that price...

Yelp
The atmosphere in the Catacombs was worth the 30-minute drive. I thought the filet mignon was the best steak I've had in Lancaster County since moving up here a year ago. The waiter was understated and friendly, that is to say, perfect. The tour of the Catacombs added some nice historical context.

Yelp
We ate in the catacombs. We arrived on time with prepaid tickets, which the staff had no record of. We stood around with another party of 4 experiencing the same problem. The 8 of us were seated after sometime in the far back corner. Drink service was interminable. Dinner, the vegetarian option had obviously spent some time under a heat lamp and was the equivalent of airplane food. There was much joking by the actors before and during dinner as a part of the show. At one point I pointed a plastic award at the actor and demanded drink, a pitcher of water was poured on me. Later the same actor brought a towel to dry off and he knocked over the one drink I had all evening. He did not apologize for anything and didn't replace the drink. I am 70 years old a woman and the whole evening was just terrible.

Yelp
Went to a Murder Mystery. The acting and the play were very good. The building is amazing and a tour given after the show was excellent. Now the bad. It was a dinner theater and the food was far from good. My suggestion, get a new chef. Your fine building and programs deserve better food.

Yelp
This place simply screams "Wasted Potential." I moved to Mount Joy a year ago and I've given Bube's Brewery 3 chances to prove that it lives up to the hype. It doesn't. Don't get me wrong. The building itself is absolutely beautiful; it's old, has a classic 19th century feel, and the catacombs are amazing, but the greatness stops there. The place truly does have an atmosphere that you aren't going to find anywhere else in the local area but as you look closer at things the magic quickly wears off. The place is unnecessarily cluttered with dusty old bottles which will make anyone sitting near them uncomfortable. The bar is also dirty and has food particles wedged in virtually every crevice. The place just feels very unkept. Yes, it's an old building but old buildings can be kept to some level of sanitation. Especially if you're in the business of serving food to people. Speaking of the food. Don't. Just don't. The menu is lackluster and portion sizes can be underwhelming. On my first visit I ordered the salmon and I was served a tiny piece of, what appeared be boiled fish, at such an inflated cost. At my next visit I ordered mozzarella sticks and was served hollow bread tubes. There was no cheese in my mozzarella sticks and when sending them back to the kitchen my server laughed about it like this was a regular thing. At my third and final attempt at liking this place I arrived around 8:00 PM on a Friday. Had a few drinks and when I tried to order food I was told that the kitchen had closed. Who closes their kitchen at 9 on a Friday? Do you not like making money? I can go to Joy's or Beannies down the road and they serve food past midnight. The only way you're not serving food is if you don't have the clientele there to cook for and that's indicative of the problems I'm listing. Your wait staff seems like they don't want to be there. You have a dish boy loitering around. You have patrons screaming profanities at the top of their lungs and none of your staff has the guts to speak with them. The table of older folks beside them was visibly uncomfortable but no one came over to apologize. I want so badly to like this place but it's rundown and nothing more than a shell of wasted potential. There is no reason why this place shouldn't be at the top of everyone's list. You're sitting on a goldmine of potential simply because you have the most unique location but you're squandering it for whatever reason. It's sad and I hope things change because I'd like to visit again but I can't.

Yelp
Need a new Real Chef! I wanted to share my disappointment eating at Bubes Brewery Valentine's Day. While the Catacomb is very romantic, the food was an expensive massive let down. The Crab cakes were barely a sliver of plain uncooked crab claw meat hiding sopping wet bland rice. Tossed bland extra large barely cooked bland green beans tossed haphazardly on my plate. My old fashioned blackberry tasteless adult beverage was also a miserable failure. Don't even get me started on my boyfriend's bland surf and turf! We did get decent little bowls of salad and French onion soup. If not for those sides I would have starved. For the first time in my life I could not eat my very expensive dinner. Thank god my boyfriend is an understanding compassionate person! He conquered his plate with a poker face!

Yelp
First time, yeah, second time, meh. Great atmosphere and neat old building with the catacombs downstairs and a good bar and dining room upstairs. In the summer, the Biergarten is open and it's a very lovely setting with a life size chess board and plenty of seating among some nice landscaping. The French onion soup and burger were amazing the first time. Second time the chicken quesadilla was not so good...well, the chicken was not tender and didn't taste great. The rest was good. Service was a bit spotty outside in the Biergarten. Inside it was better, but a little on the slow side at times. All in all a good place and a nice restaurant I will visit again to try other menu items and drink more beer!

Yelp
This was a wonderful and really unique experience. I went here for a ladies night out. We took the tour, which was a lot of fun and definitely made us wonder how haunted it is. Then we had dinner downstairs in the old wine/beer cellar. It was beautiful there. The only thing that took away from the enjoyment was how cold it was in the cellar and that everything was at a slant (old drainage ruts in the middle of the room). It was worth the discomfort, though. Our wait was attentive and friendly. The food was AMAZING! And the drinks were on point. I tried their mushroom risotto which was absolutely incredible. Creamy and delicious. We also ordered their key lime pie dessert and it was perfectly tangy. In general, the prices were fair for the quality of the food and experience. This is definitely a restaurant I would love to visit again, if I'm ever back in the area. I've even considered a road trip (5 hours, yeesh!) just to bring my partner here, because I loved it that much.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, food and service. History to learn and talk about or experience a themed dinner that you won't regret or forget.

Yelp
Wow what a wonderful place!!! Dinner in the catacombs was outstanding and Tristan was wonderful. Our meal was great and the cookie dessert was to die for!!!

Yelp
This place use to be great but has went way down hill. Don't waste you time or money here not worth it. We brought a party of like 10 people for a birthday celebration all excited happy people and was told by management they could not serve us because we were to excited and appeared to be intoxicated. Police came and all and they where great told us they have banned us from here but go to Joy's tavern it's nice there and clearly you are not intoxicated we drove 45min to 1 hour let me add to go to this place that was so rude to us for no reason. As we left noticed they only had about 5 people eating soon to be another business under water due to bad customer service.

Yelp
We went around noon and ordered beer and an appetizer in the outside seating area. Brussel sprouts were served Luke warm - like they had been cooked previously and then microwaved. Beer was just ok. I would not return seeing as I drove over an hour to get there. We were planning on getting food but after the quality of the appetizer we just left

Yelp
Very disappointed. First, let me start off by saying that the history and ambiance of this place are amazing. We ate here years ago and loved it then but this experience this time was bad. To start with one of the hosts was in grungy sweatpants and sweatshirt. After we were seated in the catacombs our waiter was not at all attentive. He chatted away with another table and basically ignored us. We waited 20 minutes for him to take our order. We waited a long time for our drinks. We never received our salads. We were given a couple of tiny pretzels as I'm not even sure what while we waited over an hour for our food. When we did receive our food the one dish of lobster crab imperial was dry and tasteless and the other pasta dish was absolutely bland and tasteless. The waiter did take the lobster back for a new one and the new one was marginally better. Very small portion sizes as well especially for the price. And especially in comparison to the last time we ate here years ago and the portions were generous then. Overall not worth the price. Service and quality have gone downhill sadly it seems.

Yelp
Not quite sure why ratings are not higher. My wife and I met with a couple of friends we hadn't seen in a while here and we participated in one of their murder mystery stories. The story was very fun, interactive, and funny as hell. My wife and I are both vegan, so we let our server know upon arrival. They could not have been more accommodating and had food made specially for us. The soup, lasagna and dessert were all amazing! We took a brief version of the grounds tour afterwards and now we are kicking ourselves that we didn't go with the full tour. The owner gave the tour and he is one of the most pleasant people you will ever meet. After all of this, my friends had an hour long drive so we figured they were going to leave, but we were all having such a great time that we decided to stay for a couple more drinks. It happened to be a 'halfway to Halloween' party so many people were dressed up. What a great concept! Definitely will be back.

Yelp
Service was terrible. The manager couldn't handle his job. Instead of helping his servers he was 'managing' and really doing nothing. He doesn't know how to handle busy nights. Food was ok at best.

Zachary R.

Yelp
Really good beer and a mystic setting sitting down in the dark basement area! I definitely recommend checking this place out!

Yelp
2/11/22 Stay away from the catacombs dinner Myself and my wife went here for a valentines dinner, we don't normally go out on fancy dinners especially with having kids no time to treat our selfs. But ended up just being a compete let down. Everything was going great we loved the atmosphere, but it all went down hill went we got are food. We both ordered are filet mignon WELL they both came out rare my wife sent hers back I ate what I could of mine I got the surf and turf. It was advertised as a jumbo lump crab cake. This crab cake looked like something I got out of a freezer pack at the grocery store. They brought out another steak and it was just as bad as the first one so my wife did not eat it and left there hungry and very upset when we were looking forward to it for awhile. Plus the service was awful and very slow. We had to make these reservations a month in advance and had to leave a deposit of $20 for the dinner. Plus the price of the meals I expect the food to be what we ordered and pay for. Stay away from the catacombs dinner

Yelp
The historic theme and garden like atmosphere is nice, but the two biggest features of a brewery were pretty bad; the beer was warm and the wings had little flavor. Other than red hot sauce on one and sriracha sauce on the other, there seemed to be no spices and they were soggy. They told us after we ordered beer that there was a problem with the refrigeration. In addition when we walked down stairs to look at the catacomb we were meet by a very abrupt waitress.
