Pros 1. Great selection 2. Half and half provides good balance for value for money 3. Super friendly staff 4. Good reputation 5. Family loved them 6. Open 24hrs Cons 1. Little pricey for the area We got the sampler pack of 6 large, premium donuts and 6 regular for $21. Premium were huge with some double the size of a regular donut. Selection was large and donuts were fresh and constantly being brought out. 12 Premium are about $24 and $18 for regular dozen Varieties included Regular -various cream filled with icing sugar, chocolate, or nothing -fruit filled including strawberry, raspberry, and I think lemon -buttermilk donut similar to a sour cream one -chocolate, maple, coconut topped -Cherry cake and other cake types Premium -giant apple fritter -giant cinnamon swirl -various long johns stuffed with white whipped filling sort of like marshmallow

I feel something poetic every time I come here. Not sure why. I think the preserved vibes from this place, the originals, the ambience, the overall mood from the staff… not to mention that if you are feeling sad, nothing like a Buckeye donut won’t resolve. Really. One of my favorite places to be, to see, to smell. May they have continued success!

I typically frequent the OSU campus location and have always had amazing food and great service, however today I decided to stop in at the S High St. location and had my best experience yet. I went through the drive-thru around 5:30am (7/3/2025) and the lady who served me was incredibly nice. Her customer service was top tier including adding sprinkles to a donut for me that doesn’t typically have sprinkles on it. I wish I had grabbed her name so I could mention it to management but my experience with her service was most definitely worth public acknowledgment. She made my day and set a perfect tone for a long drive ahead of me. Buckeye Donuts is always worth a stop, especially since they’re 24 hours. Make sure to try their breakfast sandwiches and apple fritters!

When I visited this location on Saturday, November 1, 2025, I was shocked to learn that it wasn’t owned or part of the “1998 N High ST Columbus, Ohio” location. Since this location was closer to me, I decided to drive there to buy some doughnuts. I was thoroughly lost for words at how this place was run. I’m someone who likes to scope out a place, and I blame it on my OCD. Lol. As I walked in, I noticed a woman sitting to my right playing a game. Their daughter was sitting on the counter, which was “very unsanitary.” A child was also sitting on the back station area next to what looked like a drinking or coffee dispenser, which was also “unsanitary.” The father, who was also an employee, was playing a game. Mind you, neither of the adults asked me if I needed help. They kept playing their game. The man in the work area had his pants sagging and his boxers exposed. After about two minutes, I asked if I could get some help. The woman told her husband, “You have a customer.” The man kept playing. After another minute, he came and asked me what I would like to order and he was that he was talking about his game. I said I had a gift card. The woman then said, “We don’t accept gift cards.” I asked if the restaurant was part of the Buckeye Donuts at “1998 N High ST.” He said, “Oh, no. We split from them years ago.” I asked if he was the owner. He said no. He was nice and gave me a free red velvet doughnut, which was kind of him. The reason I asked if he was the owner was because I was going to address him on how the restaurant looked, his appearance, his nails, and his children being in areas that they should not be in. I was also concerned about the back area where the doughnuts were cooked and prepared, which looked horrible. It looked like black mold was covering the fryer, and I would be afraid it would blow up if I worked there. The floor was not cleaned. I looked at the pictures other viewers had posted, and this day, I went and looked, and it didn’t look anything like those. I wonder if those positive reviews were from daytime visits and the day shift workers, or if the night shift and weekend workers have a different experience. Because what I saw, I will never visit this location again.

Google
The lady who waited on us was so incredibly friendly and helpful!! The bow tie and apple fritter are my favorite. The famous buckeye is good! Really good- but the simplicity of the bow tie blew me away- it was like a golden cloud of goodness. The Apple fritter is absolute perfect decadence! That perfect crisp, glaze on all the nooks and crannies and moist and soft inside !! I won't pass by on my way through town ever again! I sat to get in and out and lots of parking and a drive thru make it a fantastic location.

Google
Stopped by Buckeye Donuts and it was such a chill little spot. We grabbed a 6-pack, prices were pretty reasonable and the donuts were delicious. Perfect quick stop for something sweet.

Google
I stopped in to grab donuts for my employees, and my oh my—what a delicious sugar rush this place delivers. The moment you open the box, the smell alone is enough to make you smile. Every donut was fresh, soft, and absolutely loaded with flavor. My team wiped out the box in minutes. If you need a morning pick-me-up, a box for the office, or just an excuse to spoil yourself, Buckeye Donuts is the move. Pure happiness in donut form! 🍩✨

Google
There is a girl there that has a horrible attitude and she acts very strange. It could be because they hire people to “work under table” kinda deal and so she just doesn’t care. Donuts are great and the coffee is the best in town in my opinion.

Yelp
One of my go to places for donuts. I've always found them to be fresh and tasty with plenty of options. I absolutely love their apple fritters! Give them a try.
google avatar

Hay S.

Yelp
Prompt service thru the drive thru at 7:15am. The speaker doesn't work but it still has an old menu on it to view before getting to the window. We only ordered 2 donuts but they were both fresh and delicious. Apple fritter had plenty of apple bits inside and had a perfect glaze on the outside. The Boston creme had plenty of custard inside and a nice chocolate top. Chocolate not overly sweet and custard is delish. Might have to avoid tim Hortons and get my weekly donut from here instead.
google avatar

Dennis G.

Yelp
Got there about 10:30 on a Sunday morning looking forward to complete a weekend of donuts and breakfast pastries. Some were good and some were meh and the remaining dry. A wide discrepancy for such a small order.

Yelp
I went to the South High location. The staff was more interested in their conversation then waiting on me. They also were out of 3/4 of their doughnuts and it was only 8:00 am. This used to be a great shop, but I doubt I will ever frequent this establishment again.
google avatar

Misty M.

Yelp
It just doesn't get better than this classic campus coffee shop. With an old-school counter where you can watch the chefs whip up your sandwich to fresh baked donuts coming out by the minute, Buckeye donuts never disappoints!
google avatar

Brandon F.

Yelp
Buckeye donuts is an O.G. Staple. I prefer the South High street location. When I first discovered it back in the day you could find regulars sitting at the donut bar drinking coffee and rubbing scratch off lotto! It has great character. Since then, they've updated a bit but kept the brand classic and the donuts remain incredible.
google avatar

James T.

Yelp
Went late at night on my way home and the selection wasn't as good as it probably would be earlier in the day but donuts were good.

Jax M.

Yelp
Best donuts in central Ohio!!!! Doesnt matter if it's 6am to start your day, 10 PM to end your day, or 2 AM for those special nights lol

Yelp
My friend and I went to the other Buckeye Donuts on The Ohio State University campus previously, but wanted to try the one in the South side of Columbus. The lady at service was great in getting the donuts we wanted and more. They are great donuts, and open 24 hours a day and never close like their campus store. The South High Street location has plenty of parking. I am crazy for the Blueberry donuts. I was not disappointed in the Buckeye Donuts and the service was excellent. I will be going back to the Buckeye Donuts on South High Street.

Yelp
Great selection of donuts. I was very pleased with my order. I ordered though Uber Eats, and the box was taped up nicely.
google avatar

Samuel A.

Yelp
Very solid donuts here. Not the best I've ever had or anything to go crazy about, but a great old fashioned local donut shop with around 30 different options - that's alotta donuts! We got the buckeye, cream filled, and toasted coconut. All very good. The buckeye was my personal favorite with a peanut butter smear on top. Will have to stop by again when passing through to try more!

Yelp
Finally decided to figure out where to park to stop here and try their donuts. Found parking on a side street where the college housing was. As we neared the entrance, we saw one handicap parking space to the left of the entrance. So nice they have that! The donuts were good, and still fresh (it was a Sunday afternoon). The best donut I had was the apple fritter. It was the lightest, least greasy one I've ever had. The buttermilk (which is usually my favorite donut), was my least favorite of the ones we tried. It didn't have buttermilk flavor and tasted more like an old fashioned donut. My hubby's favorite was the maple bacon bar. He was surprised to find it was filled with some fluffy white stuff (frosting?), but he said it worked really well. His least favorite was the cinnamon sugar one. The red velvet was tangy and weird, so much so that we threw it away. The devils food was decent. Overall the donuts were good classic style donuts, but definitely not worth going out of the way for. The service was great. The gal helping us was friendly and really patient while we all figured out what we wanted.

Yelp
I was down the street doing some laundry and had to get my donut fix. Would it be mean to say that I shouldnt have made the trip? I was a little disappointed. The establishment was clean, and the staff was nice. They had a good selection. But the taste wasnt there. The actual donut, didnt taste like a donut. Kind of really had no flavor. I got the German Chocolate and the Buckeye. The German Chocolate wasnt that fresh. a little on the stiff side. The Buckeye was a little more fresh. The peanut butter cream in the Buckeye was actually excellent. The chocolate milk was the best part. I don't think I will be going back to a Buckeye Donuts anytime soon.
google avatar

Tonya S.

Yelp
If parking is a concern, this is the Buckeye Donuts to go to. They have their own parking lot as well as a drive-thru. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We went a little later in the morning so they were out of a lot but so the saying goes, "If you snooze, you lose!" After our visit a friend told me that if I didn't get the devils food cake with icing donut I "f'd up", and I didn't so don't make the same mistake as I did.
google avatar

Andrew M.

Yelp
Well, this Dunkin lover has been converted in a single visit! Apple fritter was excellent! Cherry donut was outstanding. I was honestly surprised at the level of flavor. Grabbed three others for the fam and they were devoured much too quickly. My ding on the establishment is the eye appeal and cleanliness. I had seen pics of the bug traps. They are in plain sight from the drive through. Facilities are dated. Upgrade and get the fifth star from me. Staff by the way was wonderful.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
I am a sucker for warm donuts. Didn't mind standing line either. The selection is more than adequate and the service is friendly and fast. Stop in -- buy a dozen and enjoy them with your coworkers
google avatar

Steve A.

Yelp
Buckeye Donuts is a favorite on campus. Many people don't know that it also has another location. This is on the South side. It has a different atmosphere. One other difference is the food menu. It has just coffee and donuts. It doesn't have falafel or gyros like the other location. This is why I prefer the other location, because of the better menu selection. If you're okay with just donuts you won't have that problem here. The problem though might be the quality. Freshness here seems like an issue. Sometimes it's a problem at the campus location, but here it's even more so. If you're around OSU just go to the one there. It's better. They also have actual food.
google avatar

Yelp
What's your favorite donut? My 1st pick is always the apple fritter. The Buckeye Donut with the creamy peanut butter in the middle is another great choice. Always grab some of those old fashioned cake donuts. You know what I'm talking about, the ones with the little square imprints and the sugary icing. All of their donuts are high quality and taste really great. @ohiofoodlover

Bryan T.

Yelp
The service here is great. After a terrible experience with a thieving Uber Eats driver, they fulfilled the part of the order that was stolen. Stephanie there was amazing and I'm happy to be back on track! Of course the donuts are world class
google avatar

Amy J.

Yelp
So sad to report that out of the six or so types of donuts I tried with my dozen bought today at 1040am, every single one was dry and thus unenjoyable. I am not particularly snobby about donuts- just fry them up and serve them to me as greasy as you'd like- but I do insist they not be dry on the inside but instead moist and cakey. Even the outsides of the glazed donuts here were dry. The lady at the counter was very friendly but wow why a disappointment!! Edit: the iced devil's food cake donut is slightly moist on the inside and somewhat satisfyingly crisp on outside. Looks like the icing saved this one from the stale fate of the others- still nothing I'd repeat but unfortunately.

Yelp
A Columbus staple that has amazing donuts and food get there early and enjoy the smells!

Cordell W.

Yelp
Nasty service. I told the worker it was a fly on the donut she responded by saying she didn't care and that she has to sell those donuts.

Yelp
Donut cravings on a Sunday night. What's open? Well, Buckeye Donuts on campus, but the kids are back. Wait, there's another one??? Apparently this has been here 20 years or so. Which means it came after I lived down there, and I really don't get down there much anymore, but still, how did I not know about this? Anyway, Sweetie found it, and we loaded up. 24 hours, easy parking, and a drive-through. Seriously, drive-throughs are time savers, but I'd usually rather go inside- but a baby changes that equation, and now drive-throughs are lifesavers. We did end up going in, though, since there was no crowd and we wanted to see the donuts. It was clean, and out of style, but very much what I remember donut shops being like for the last, oh, 50 years. Maybe it doesn't have the character of the campus one, but so what? I'm here for the food, not the atmosphere (and I probably ain't hanging out anyway.) Service was fast and super friendly, and we all had a good time. Prices are reasonable. We got a half dozen plus one. And the donuts? Maybe not stellar, but very good. Cakey, sweet but not over the top, a wide variety. We got a mix, and enjoyed them all. I can guarantee we'll be back. Sweetie said "if I'd known this was here while I was pregnant..."

Yelp
I stopped by Buckeye Donuts on a Friday night road trip for a quick donut fix. I was hoping that their donuts would blow my mind based on the simple formula of: 24 hour donut shop + sketchy location + building trapped in the 1970s + college town = awesome donuts... but I had to settle for above average to good donuts. As many others have mentioned in their reviews, their cake donuts were pretty dry, presumably because they weren't that fresh. I had plain cake, glazed cake, and frosted cake donuts. All had good flavor, but were on the dry side. The glazed donut I had was solid, but nothing special. Of the donuts I had, their vanilla creme-filled was the best. There was a fair amount of tasty, sweet creme, and the raised donut vessel was far moister than its cake counterpart. The service was quick, pleasant, and the coffee was above average. If you're in the neighborhood, stop by for raised and creme-filled donuts. If you sense the cake donuts are fresh, I imagine they will be quite tasty, but otherwise, skip 'em and stick with the raised ones.

Yelp
Buckeye is the one and only I ate from here and it's delicious! The peanut butter whipped cream is so light, airy and whipped. The donut isn't overly sweet so that's good. The dough isn't too doughy but airy. My wife is a fan of powered donuts and she tried light chocolate powdered donut. She was afraid that it would be too sweet like some donut shops but surprisingly, it was not! She enjoyed it and got powdered cherry donut the next day. It was the same quality. We like the consistency of their donuts even though it's mass produced. Keep up the quality. The donuts are $1.50 each so it's alittle more than what we'd normally pay but hey, for the quality donut, it's worth it!

Julie C.

Yelp
This place is an original donut shop. The selection is satisfying & donuts are fresh & delicious. The customer service is usually pretty good & they stay open all night. If you love donuts & you're in Columbus, you should visit this establishment.
google avatar

Lin D.

Yelp
Buckeye Doughnuts are the ONLY ONES my husband wants to buy! There's a nice daily selection, staff is congenital, the donuts are ever so tasty. Our son ONLY LOVES the campud location, but we like the accessibility of this South High location. Keep up the good work!
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
I recently had Buckeye Donuts at Land Grant for their beer and donut tasting and wow! Omg the red velvet donut was one of the best donuts I've ever had! It tasted like I was eating a piece of cake and the cream cheese icing was amazing! All of the donuts were great, if the maple bacon and I am not a maple fan at all! Local and delicious...always the way to go!
google avatar

Brian V.

Yelp
Good coffee, food donuts, simple decisions. This isn't some fancy pants donut shop with overpriced coffee and fare, heck no. This is a donut shop, run by great people, that make top notch donuts on-site. We had to try the buckeye! It is really sweet, so I enjoyed sharing it with the rest of my family. I think you will enjoy this place.
google avatar

Gwen W.

Yelp
Finally got a chance to try Buckeye Donut's infamous Buckeye cake donut. Good? It's sweet, so yeah, from that standpoint. However, the peanut butter topping was too sugary; I prefer a more "salty", thicker, savory peanut butter flavor. Definitely more of a fast food donut shop. While it's always good to have a sweet-tooth outlet close by the doctors office, I guess I'm more attracted to higher quality donuts, since I can't tolerate too many sweets, period. I'm glad I've tried BD, and can say I've partaken in a city institution (some say).
google avatar

Kali W.

Yelp
The place has a very nice 60s feel to it. The employees were very nice and answered questions about the donuts accurately. Just wish the place was more cleaned up.
google avatar

Carl B.

Yelp
Donuts are made fresh through out the day. Not just once /day like some chains do. There are a Good selection at any hour. They also do custom upon request. They remodeled and cleaned the look up recently. The look is now as fresh as the Coffee is. Food beverages and desserts are all good and reasonably priced.
google avatar

Angela D.

Yelp
QUEEN of Donuts. This place is on the south end and not quite as busy as the location on OSU's campus. Therefore the donuts don't come out as fast nor as fresh, and can sell out sooner. So get there quick!! They are also not a 24hr shop. They're always friendly none the less, always welcoming and a great neighborhood shop. If you live on the south end, we're so blessed to have them here haha i literally sometimes dream about their donuts. Now how's that for a donut shop!? If you dream it you can achieve it!!
google avatar

Laura H.

Yelp
Best chocolate cream donut I've ever had!! Old fashion and glazed donuts are solid. Very helpful and friendly staff, and great prices.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
Our preferred donut place on the South side of Columbus. We stopped in after sledding for hot chocolate & donuts

Tommy J.

Yelp
Before going here I read up and knew I was in for a treat! AND boy was I... I don't know what to say but, they should step out of the donut business. If anyone thinks these donuts are good they haven't tasted good donuts...they were all dry and the peanut butter donuts was dry and like they took a big spoon full of dry peanut butter and slung it in the middle. I wouldn't feed it to my pigs!!! If I had any! Pure nasty and dry!!!
google avatar

Street P.

Yelp
Of course if you've been eating dunkin' your going to think these are amazing. But! if you're into donuts maybe no so much. When there fresh yes! Otherwise there just ok. My biggest issue is pricing. $2.38 for a long john? Woof! Recession started early at Buckeye Donuts!! They're just too damn expensive for what they are and wheres this money going because if you've ever been inside youll ask yourself the same!!
google avatar

April S.

Yelp
There is nothing like an apple fritter from buckeye donuts!! They taste exactly like the ones Big Bear used to have..I never thought I'd find one like it again!! My employer purchases donuts every morning from this place and has them in our cafe so I already knew they were slam! Prices are great and it tasted like heaven in my mouth!! Perfect for my afternoon sweet tooth. I didn't even realize they had a drive through so I didn't even have to get out of the car. Their menu by the drive through is pretty old School and I know they have many more options than that but loved the old school touch!! Great customer service!
google avatar

John N.

Yelp
I'm writing this retro review as I have had donuts from this location and would like to let you know that if you feel like you want Buckeye Donuts, you should visit the OSU Campus location as opposed to here. The donuts 'can' be as good, but wasn't the time I visited. While it has the Buckeye Donut name, the place had more of a Dunkin Donuts vibe coming from it, not that it should hamper the quality of the donut. I had picked up a dozen donuts for my family to have in order to try Buckeye Donuts, which I had raved about. However, I hadn't actually gotten them from this location before. The donuts I got, however, were just mediocre and some of the donuts felt a bit hard, like they had stayed on a shelf for too long, which, considering I got there early in the morning, shouldn't be the norm for any donut place. You can taste some of the quality of Buckeye in them, but it's not the standard I hope for when I go there. That's why I pick the OSU location over this, mainly because I know that I have consistently gotten a higher quality donut from there as opposed to here.
google avatar

Tom H.

Yelp
Short and sweet. Donuts are good but costly. There's plenty of places out there making great donuts from scratch. Standouts can only be your selection now. I see the Buckeye, and the eclair with bacon on top. Nothing else pops to mind. Shouldn't it pop to mind? I don't find the staff overly friendly. More like "I've been here since 4AM, what do you want?" The parking lot is a welcome touch over the campus location. It's great for a sugar bump when in the area. I stopped after 2 visits making a special trip just for these donuts.
google avatar

Dana B.

Yelp
I have to start off by saying, I visited here later in the evening, around 8pm. It's a 24/7 location but that doesn't mean they have all of the specials available, 24/7. For instance, I asked for a Cruller just to find out that they are only available in the morning. Somewhat common for a bakery establishment but, I'd think a 24 hour bakery would be running that long, too. Taking these afterthoughts and first impressions into consideration, the donuts were pretty good. The chocolate iced devils food was a little dry but I think it was from sitting on the shelf throughout the day. You could tell it was at one time, quite good. My bowtie was probably the best. A traditional glazed donut but in a twisted bowtie shape. It was fluffy, soft and sweet. If I had been near a microwave, it would have been perfect. Lastly, I wanted to try a filled donut. Vanilla icing filled with chocolate icing on top, to be specific. The vanilla icing was VERY sweet. Tasted almost like eating straight powdered sugar. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I was expecting a more vanilla pudding or custard type icing. Probably my fault since they had a Boston Creme filled donut. Definitely an area staple and worth a shot. Just maybe try to fit in with the morning rush.
google avatar

Jude B.

Yelp
Absolute angels work here. EVERYONE I have interacted with at this store is beyond sweet and pleasant to interact with. We love the donuts and love to sit at the counter on a weekend and enjoy them. It's truly the best neighborhood breakfast spot for couples and kids alike.
google avatar

Peyton P.

Yelp
Meh eww yuck hmmm The feelings towards these donuts today lol. The donut are dry and a little stale. The jelly filled had way too much unnatural processed filling and the long johns had gaps in the fillings. Talk about a donut without a hole hahahaha maybe it was just this visit then again the south high location is no where near better the the campus location. Aw hack I know I'll be back again smh why sweet tooth why!
google avatar

Gordon M.

Yelp
I don't know why anybody could ever possibly give this place any less than five stars - clearly they are trying to convince themselves that their frozen weightwatchers fare tastes delicious by denigrating the wonderfully sugary, chocolatey, drizzled with the sweet nectar of the gods goodness that is defined by the amazing array of donuts that I and my two friends were given the good fortune of sampling tonight. If you are used to the usual fare offered by Tim Horton's... try this place. It'll redefine the standards by which you measure all of those other poor, inferior donuts. Actually, don't. Please, for the love of God - if you value your waistline... forget that you know this place exists. My blood sugar spikes just looking at the displays. Stay skinny. For my sake. Because I'll be busy stopping back again, chowing down more donuts. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Tina S.

Yelp
I frequent the S. High location. This makes the third time in recent months that the quality of their donuts is very poor. I drive extra from Ashville to get the chocolate iced cream filled donuts. The last 2 times they were fresh (soft) not warm but skimpy on the filling. I even called the second time to let a manager (he said he was the owner) know. I get maybe new hire or other reason. But, now, today being the third time, I have to write a poor review. The donuts at 0930 in the morning weren't fresh. And, they had very little filling. Only one bite ( the size of a quarter) with cream. I tried to take pictures to show.
google avatar

A. S.

Yelp
There is nothing worse than when your favorite donut place tanks. Your name, in case you've forgotten, is Buckeye Donuts. Therefore because you are a 24/7 donut shop, you should always have your signature buckeye donut either on hand or have the peanut butter filling available to plop on top of a chocolate frosted one. This used to be the case for years but I don't know if they're under newer management or what but they consistently never have them regardless of the time of day going on 2 years. How hard is it?? It's literally a squeeze from a piping bag on top! You don't even have to jam it into the donut. Yes there is another location but you all know what the parking situation is there and they end up absorbing the smells of the other things they cook there. Gyro buckeye donuts are not tasty to my sweet tooth. Please get it together.

Kurt Y.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE Buckeye Donuts South! Everyone is friendly and this is by FAR my favorite donut shop for my family & friends. Always accommodating, donuts are fresh and the owner is like an old friend to everyone...Wouldn't get my donuts anywhere else..GO BUCKS!
google avatar

Esther F.

Yelp
This review is for the apple fritter only since that's what I ordered and I didn't try their other donuts. They have an excellent apple fritter, it was flaky, crunchy from the sugar and had a really great consistency and perfect moist texture. Overall I would put it at the top of my list of one of the best Apple fritters I've had. Will most definitely be going back and although I would like to try their other donuts, when I find something good I keep ordering it so I will probably get another apple fritter.
google avatar

Dia S.

Yelp
Great donuts! Fresh and tasty every time. Doesn't disappoint! The variety is great and it's hard to pick just a dozen!
