I tried the Cinnamon Sugar Chimney Cake at Budapest Bake Shop, and it was delicious. The flavor reminded me of a churro, but the texture was soft and pleasantly chewy, and the shape made it fun to eat. The shop was clean, and it was nice to watch them making the pastries right in front of you. The staff were very friendly as well. I’d love to come back and try other items next time.

The sandwiches at Budapest Bakeshop are absolutely delicious. Fresh ingredients, great bread, and generous portions make every bite satisfying. You can really taste the quality and care that goes into their food. The staff is friendly and welcoming as well. The only downside is that there’s no place to sit, but it’s still well worth stopping by for the food. Highly recommended!

Never had bakery bread quite like this before! The chimney shape alone makes it stand out. I tried the cinnamon, the classic, and two savory options — all turned out extraordinary. If I had to pick, the cinnamon and sausage are my top votes, but honestly, everything was flavorful and so satisfying. This spot is definitely on my Ontario favorites list for a weekend getaway or staycation. I’ll be back next time I’m in Niagara-on-the-Lake this fall.

Yummy and Fresh chimney cakes! We tried the Jalapeño cheese chimney cake and it tasted great. Cute little shop at Niagara on the lake. They have variety of flavors for chimney cake and many options for sandwiches as well. Highly recommend if visit the beautiful town!

Amazing sweet and savory dishes. We had the coconut cheesecake one and the herb and cheese one in a chicken pesto sandwich special. Both were AMAZING. They were so good we picked up a third to go to have the next day. Highly recommend.

The chimney cakes were fantastic and there were so many varieties. The breakfast version is also a really unique take on the chimney cake. Excellent service and such a fun shop!

Great take out spot offering both savoury and sweet options. Traditional chimney cakes with sausage or any sweet chimney cakes. they are all made in house and offered until they sell out. the line could get long depending on time of year and day. Also, it is not uncommon for the shop to get hit with an unexpected tour bus or get busier than anticipated and sell out before their closing hours. We have never had a bad experience here, the fair is always good and fresh. Recently tried one of their walnut rolls and it was delicious.

My husband and I are visiting Canada for the first time to see Niagara Falls and we stopped in Niagara-on-the-Lake for boutique shopping and a snack. When I walked past Budapest Bakery and saw the words "chimney cakes" I had to see what that was all about! I went inside and it smelled like a fresh-baked heaven. I ordered the Sausage Chimney for my husband and I to share and it was amazing! The Hungarian sausage had a robust flavor, but not overpowering, and it went so well with the delicious, soft freshly baked Aged Cheddar Chimney. Also to note, the Sausage Chimney came with a side of sport peppers and yellow mustard packets. I LOVE sport peppers, so that was a pleasant surprise! I highly recommend stopping here if you're in the area! Worth all the calories.

Literally ran 3 blocks from the Prince of Wales to Budapest at 5:54pm to get there before they closed. It was worth it. Great service with a smile. Even got a free cinnamon sugar roll due to the time. I tried the cinnamon sugar with Oreo cheesecake. I know it sounds like a lot of sugar but it didn't taste overly sweet. Nice balance. The dough was soft and even though it's basically just spread on the inside with the middle still hollow, it works! Recommend trying this. Next time I'll go savory. I'm eyeing the jalapeno.

You MUST try these amazing Budapest Bakery chimney cakes!!! I don't give out many 5-star reviews but this AMAZING bakery deserves it for ALL the right reasons. We were immediately drawn to the heavenly waft of these delectable chimney cake treats. Not surprising, there was quite a line, which nobody is upset to wait on. Making your wait worthwhile, from outside through the glass windows you can actually watch and see how the magic deliciousness comes to life. Freshly made and baked to keep up with the nonstop demands of these unique sweet and/or savory chimneys depending on the topping and/or spread you choose. And the options are endless. If you're like me, you'll comeback for more another day! I deliberately and purposefully drove through Niagara on the Lake again to get more of these for the car ride back home! Once inside this rustic, cute, small bakeshop, the hustle and bustle of the Budapest Bakery is evident but not in a stressful way at all. The bakers and staffers are all working together like the symphony of flavors coming from their baked goodies. They are all smiling, welcoming and friendly! They are willing to answer any questions you might have. I'm more of a sweet-baked good person. For sweet, we tried original, cinnamon & sugar and raspberry. For savory, we tried the cheddar & bacon. All of our choices were served warm because they couldn't make them quick enough! For sweet chimney options, there's original, cinnamon & sugar, raspberry, walnut, poppyseed and whatever daily special they have created. For sweet with spreads, there's Nutella with walnut, Oreo cheesecake, walnut cheesecake and coconut cheesecake. For savory chimney examples, there's aged cheddar, jalapeños cheddar, cheddar & bacon, dill pickle, pizza and everything. Looking for a hearty chimney, then the sausage chimney is available. Beyond the chimneys there are sandwiches and dips. Since we were hitting the road, I decided to try the Black Forest ham sandwich. It was perfectly delicious ! Sorry I ate it before realizing I didn't take a photo. We came back just so I could try to catch a photo of all the options. It was midday around 4:00 that we caught a glimpse of what was close to a full inventory. Lastly, there's a small sign informing you that at the end of the day any baked good leftover are donated to serve the less fortunate. As if this place couldn't get any better!! If you're in the area, you'd be crazy NOT to stop here.

HOW can a sandwich taste so heavenly?? My boyfriend and I both got the black forest ham, and with the first bite, we both knew this was a magnificent sandwich. The seasoning and light crunch of the bread, the slight sweetness of the ham, the freshness of the veggies, and the soft and creamy touch of the cheese when biting into it: everything came together! We will 100% be returning when we're back at Niagara-on-the-lake. Highly recommend!

Been wanting to try this place but always seem to run out of time whenever I'm in this beautiful area. Went to a Christmas party the other day that has some catering from Budapest Bakeshop and it was amazing. Especially loved the delicious sandwiches. I had a salami one and a turkey one. The meat is fresh and delicious...but the bread alone is absolutely exceptional. My wife had a veggie one and loved hers as well. 100% making it a goal to stop here next time my wife and I are on the area!

Budapest Bakery seems to be the best place in Niagara-on-the-Lake for sandwiches with their fresh baked cylinder shaped bread, aptly named "Chimneys" in both savory or sweet flavours. The chimneys are a cross between a hollowed out baguette but as light as a croissant. They turned out to be a delicious spot for a lunch break while exploring the quaint neighborhood. We were pleased with our good choices of both Turkey & Swiss Cheese, and Black Forest Ham & Swiss sandwiches. Small shop with some of the best sweet and savory options. Wait in line it so worth it. We had turkey sandwich and cinnamon sugar chimney cakes which as I write this is making my mouth water. Open concept (watch baking and prep) with plenty of friendly help making and serving up these delicacies. Unfortunately hav only take away, so not place guaranteed to sit and enjoy. This is a must stop! Enjoy

The raspberry cheesecake chimney was flakey and sugary on the outside. The cream inside was tangy which balanced the outside well. All in all a good pairing but nothing too too special

Omg.... I ordered a chimney cake in great anticipation after reading about this place. I was not disappointed. I didn't really see a menu, but I spoke to the woman behind the counter and described what I would like. I was fortunate that there was no line. I wound up with a chimney cake that was covered in cinnamon and sugar on the outside and a spread of cheesecake and pistachio on the inside. This was one of the greatest desserts I've ever had. I ate it walking along Queen Street, and it slowly unraveled in all of its deliciousness. I didn't care that I got cheesecake on my fingers. I will ensure to go back again and again every time I go back to Niagara on the lake. Wish they had a seating area, but it is a small store and takeout only.

It smelled amazing from the threshold: What's not to love about fresh yeast bread with cinnamon and sugar?? Unfortunately, they were sold out of both Apple and Nutella cakes at noon when we arrived, and they sold only refrigerated drinks, no coffee. At minus 10 Celsius, that was not happening. There was a new savory cake choice called, "Dill Pickle", which was thin slices of both ingredients wrapped around the exterior of the cake. I'm not going to yuck your yum if that's what blows your hair back; "Chaque a son gout" - but I can't experientially confirm it was good. In the rear right of the shop are tidy stacks of Hungarian exports: Red peppers in oil; dried red peppers ready for goulash. Watch out for the "hot" variety: They mean it!

We went this past Sunday to the Budapest Bakeshop in NOTL They are located on the main strip sharing their space with Oliv Tasting We saw the yummy advertising outside the shop so we had to go in They are known for their Hungarian chimneys which I have had in the past from Eva's in the GTA They also serve savoury chimneys and sandwiches as well We had the chimney with Nutella and walnuts OMG So good We forgot to take a picture before we devoured it Service was there was great Highly recommend checking this spot out when in NOTL

We went this past weekend to the Budapest Bakery in Niagara on the Lake They are located on the eastern part of the strip of town They are known for their Hungarian baked goods but mostly for their famous chimneys Inside the bake shop it is small and cozy, mostly a take out feel to it Service was friendly and great And those chimneys Wow Just wow We had the Nutella and walnut in the classic chimney I would have loved to have posted a pic but once we got outside and chowed down it did not survive Was really good for a dessert treat Highly recommend this spot when venturing into town

I was in the area and popped in for a chimney cake - never had one before! They have lots of different flavors, sweet and savory. I got the pistachio. It was fun to eat, in a spiral form, and great for sharing. I liked that it wasn't too sweet. The outside was crispy and the inside was a bit fluffier. Good stuff!

This store knows it's niche! They mostly just do the chimney cakes, but boy do they do it well! Every time we walked by there was a crowd either hovering in the entryway or outside the big windows watching employees making the cakes on spindles, and a line of people waiting to buy them. You can get all different kinds from sweet to savory and either rolling in coatings or stuffed with fillings. I got a Nutella and walnut version and it was fantastic. Sticky, messy, and delicious, it was everything you want in a dessert. Can't wait to try one of the savory ones next time!

There are a lot of people standing around the windows and in the entryway to this store, and that is to be expected, because the selection of chimney cakes is amazing. There are both sweet and savory chimney cakes freshly made. I had the special hazelnut and walnut cake, and it was amazing. A bit messy to eat, but well worth the mess. The weight staff is courteous and quick.

Delicious intriguing food items to eat plain or with a filling. We had a plain cinnamon & sugar chimney cake. Service quick and gave us informative information on all our options. As you walk in you are met with a wonderful view into their operations and glorious breathtaking aroma.

This place is AMAZING! The aged cheddar chimney was really unique looking. The bread was so chewy and soft. There was a good amount of cheese, but I think it could have used more. Hehe. I really enjoyed unraveling it too. OMG. I want some now!!! The Hungarian salami sandwich was actually the same chimney breading minus the meat, cheese, and veggies. It looked just like the aged cheddar but will a little bit less cheese. The salami was tasty. I thought the Hungarian salami would be vastly different than say Genoa salami. Nah. It's similar. The sauce was the thing that brought everything together. The sandwich overall was very fresh and delectable. Even if there's a line, it will move rather quickly so don't fret. You have to check out Budapest Bakeshop!

This place has the dessert or salty or cheesy chimney cake for a range of $7.25 to $9.50 (higher if you get a filling) and you can get sweet fillings like with apple and toffee or coconut and Nutella. The chimney cake was better here than in Budapest actually bc the bread was chewy and fluffy and had a nice texture. The staff was very sweet and patient. They sell T shirts and hats also. But in Budapest they had more options for fillings like ice cream or creams which would have been nice. So Maybe this place might add these fillings for the future? :-)

Food is so yummy. Freshly made and tastes wonderful. Service is slow though, they had a really long line up but they didn't seem to be too efficient. Ambiance is good. You can view the whole baking process.

Difficult review. The product was absolutely fantastic. Loved loved whatever it was that I got. We all lpved it. But unless you're familiar with this product they treat you like an idiot. If you read my reviews I'm very forgiving, but the staff that day didn't help at all and gave one word answers instead of actually helping us figure out how to order. All the pics show with sausage but I kept asking what goes inside and she kept telling me "nothing." My party was so confused and left feeling stupid. We're people who eat adventurously but in this case I felt like they wanted us to feel inadequate. Plus the couple in front of us, Canadians, were also highly confused and treated pretty crappy. So great product. Work on the staffing

I'm so glad that I got to try chimney cakes here. It was mid-afternoon when we stopped by. There was a line that was practically out the door. We came back later in the day to pick up a couple of chimney cakes to try. We got the bacon & cheddar and chimney sausage. Both were so tasty! Unless you're a big eater, I'd recommend sharing with someone. The only downsides are that the chimney cakes are on the pricey side and there isn't space to enjoy these inside the shop.

This was probably my favorite shop in this town. It was packed but the line moved pretty quickly. I thought the chimney bread was going to be a gimmick but they were tasty. The outside the flavor, toppings, and crunch. The inside is lofty and airy. It's also fun to unravel it piece by piece. My wife got a Hungarian salami sandwich. It's not a large sandwich but it tasted amazing. The ingredient could've honestly been anything but the quality was there. Grab some sandwiches here to go and walk over to the lake to have a picnic. Would I come here again? Yes. I would want to try them all.

This was the most exciting place I ate at on my trip to Niagara Falls. If you happen to come to this little area, make sure you do not pass it up! I loved it so much, I went there twice in one day. I got the jalapeno cheddar chimney with one of their spicy dips and omg I devoured it while waiting for my sandwich to come out. I really wanted to try their walnut cheesecake dessert chimney as well so I came back a little before they were closing, but they were so popular I had to wait about 20 minutes while they were making more. I think chimney cakes should be in more places because this is the first I've had it and I know it would be popular elsewhere!

Such creative sandwiches! Definitely worth a try. Although they have a long line, the service is fast, so we got to order pretty quickly. We had one original chimney, which is covered with a sweet glaze and sprinkled with sugar. Although it was slightly too sweet for our taste, the fresh bread was irresistible. It's crispy on the outside and so fluffy on the inside. We also tried the aged cheddar chimney, which was delicious as well. I don't think you can go wrong with trying any of them! They do not have seating inside, but there are several benches along the street.

THIS HIT THE SPOT - carby, chewy, doughy, warm goodness! It's really neat seeing how these chimney pastries are made too. And when they come out pipping hot, it's oh so hard to resist. We tried a savoury PIZZA one. It was just perfect. Crispy pepperonis on the outside and the dough was baked just right, so warm, stretchy, pull apart. I can see it being good with a sauce, but man do I just enjoy the chimney on its own!

So good! Their chimney cakes are so light, flaky and tasty. Unique in their shape but perfect to fill. The sausage chimney cake is good but would be so much better with homemade kielbasa or sausage instead of processed, packaged sausage. It has that processed, super salty, almost chemical taste which takes away from the taste of the chimney cake. They have a variety of dips like ranch dressing for the non-sweet varieties. They have toppings and fillings for the sweet varieties such as cookies and cream, Nutella, and others. The workers are friendly and you can watch the whole operation in their open view bake shop. Definitely worth a stop! They are located just by 124 on Queen Hotel Starbucks and a gelateria. Even if you aren't hungry, it's worth a stop just to see the nakes goods. The morning is so much better, as with any bakery, because the chimney cakes are still warm and so fresh out of the oven. This is a great place for the whole family. No seating inside but there are benches and little spots to sit and eat all along Queen Street.

Unique place for a snack or lunch, carry-out only. I'd like to return and try the cinnamon and sugar roll and also the Nutella, walnut filled roll. However, we needed a meal at the time we hit the bake shop so we tried the sandwiches which were all served on the aged cheddar roll, which was very good. I would definitely eat here again, but I would like to try it for a snack with some of the sweet items.

Yummy. What's not to like with cinnamon and sugar on bread? These bakers take a "string" of dough, wrap it around a special dowel, bake it and roll it in a cinnamon and sugar mix. These tasty treats can be eaten as is, pulling apart the "rope" to enjoy. The cinnamon and sugar seasoning is the traditional Hungarian flavor; however these bakers have gotten creative, making jalapeño/cheddar, everything, coconut, pizza, bacon/cheddar, dill pickle, and a few more flavors. These seasonings are put on the dough before baking. Not inexpensive, but very good.

What a fun experience to try their chimney rolls! Wanting to get the full effect, we ordered both sweet and a savory versions for a quick snack on a nearby bench as we strolled the street and shops. The sausage chimney was hearty, containing a Hungarian sausage surrounded by a cheddar chimney roll. Throw on a dab of mustard and things really got good! We opted for the original sweet chimney that was yeasty and topped with sugar. A nice little treat to finish off our snack time. Plenty more concoctions to try, will be sure to do so next time through town.

The sign over the front door said "Budapest bakeshop - chimney cakes" and intrigued us enough to go inside to check it out. What are chimney cakes? Well, a string of dough is wrapped around a dowel and baked. This hollow roll can be rolled in cinnamon sugar, the original version, or made with all kind of sweet or hardy tastes. I had the jalapeño one and really enjoyed it. A nice hot and spicy bite. They also,sell the cakes as sandwiches. They cut them open on one side and fill them like a roll.

Hungarian Sweet, Savory, Sandwiches [Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON Canada] We visited Niagara-on-the-Lake last month... What is this chimney cake?? I am going through withdrawals missing these amazing pastries. They come in sweet and savory chimneys and even sandwiches. We purchased the Bacon & Cheddar with the creamy garlic dip (dips sold separately) but we didn't try it until we got back to our hotel. OMG! Sooo good! Love at first bite, second... and third! If you plan on visiting NOTL in Ontario, follow your nose to the yummy smell coming from 106 Queen Street... you must stop by and try their chimney cakes. Guaranteed you'll be hooked. We returned the next day (our last day in Niagara Falls) and bought two more. We said we would have them as snack while waiting for our flight at the airport. Well, it never made it to the airport. On our way home back to Pennsylvania after a weekend in Toronto and stopped in Niagara on the lake to stroll the streets a bit. We wanted to know what a chimney cake was, so we popped in! Essentially it is a hollow (chimney) sweet roll of sorts--sweet bread that is wrapped around a dowel and filled with a variety of ingredients. We got the strawberry cheesecake one and while it was a novel and fun thing to try, it seemed overpriced to us. The flavors were good, the bake was perfect, it just seemed a little steep. The staff were friendly and it was fun to watch them make the chimneys too! It's on the Main Street and in a quaint and cute little shop.

Great sandwiches! I liked their unique menu and the soft-yet-crunchy texture of the bread. The hot dog was a little large for the bread to meat ratio, but I liked it better than my sandwich. The salami sandwich included lettuce, peppers, meat, and cheese. Personally, I found the bread spices too salty and overpowering. However, I would come back to Budapest Bakeshop!

This is the first time that I've ever been to Niagara on the Lake. While I was wondering around the town I found this bake shop and stopped in to grab lunch. They have a bunch of different sandwiches. I opted for a turkey sandwich. It had fresh dark leafy green lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, turkey, cheese and a sauce that is similar to Thousand Island dressing. They also had these things they called chimneys. And I wish I had gotten a picture but there were many different varieties some sweet some savory. I opted for a bacon cheddar chimney that I took home and shared with my grandchildren. It was very reminiscent of a really good soft pretzel with cheddar and bacon baked into it. I also bought some some Peach cookies because I was there during Peach Festival so I just had to. The service was good and the prices were reasonable. I would definitely go back there again.

This is a MUST TRY if you're in Niagara on the Lake. Their chimney cakes are amazing! If you are looking for something sweet, the Skor Cheesecake was fantastic. Looking for savory, you can't go wrong with any of them- our favorite was pizza. Absolutely delicious!

Food: Absolutely heavenly. their original and jalapeño were must-haves! One of the best bakeries i've had in the niagara falls area. Service: Staff was very friendly Ambiance: very nice, you can see them making the cakes in store. Parking can be a bit of a challenge and unmarked in the area. Can be a bit of a wait if you order other food.

My goodness this place is so stupid good. Their breads are absolutely delicious and their sandwiches are even better. Whether you're in the mood for sweet of savory their breads are amazing and you'll like anything you try. Prices are great as well! No indoor seating but there are some benches outside and a table or two nearby I think. Love the place can't wait to go back!

A very cool bakery serving traditional chimney cakes. We waited in a decent line but were a little disappointed to learn that by time we got to the front they told us that they weren't doing any of their stuffed ones which is what we wanted. They said it would be 20 min and after waiting that long we ordered plain ones only to wait over 20 min just for those anyways. They were good but I think they really need to work on their ordering system to better the customer experience. I also think the savories are maybe better. We were really excited to try this but it just fell flat after waiting, being talked out of what we wanted, and then waiting 40 minutes anyways. They also have no idea whose order is whose and just shout out what it is so you could technically grab whatever. They had to ask us repeatedly what we were waiting on. They need better management given how popular they have gotten!

This place is the best. I came all the way from Florida into Buffalo and then over the boarder to eat here. Just truly amazing.

Did not expect to find excellent Hungarian food here, but I did. Whatever else you try, do yourself a favor and get a wrapped sausage, too. They're awesome.

I saw this place on a Tic-toc review so we checked it out. Sure enough they had dough wrapped around a cylinder, a lot of flavors. We got the pickle one with cheese. If your lactose intolerance don't bother, it's made with milk powder.

Walked down the street and saw a huge line outside of this bakeshop, so I had to see what was all the hype. These chimney cakes are very good. A cross between a donut and crossing, flakey and soft. There are savory and sweet choices. We chose hazelnut spread and walnut and pizza. We have absolutely no complaints but, these would be 1000 times better filled with sauce and hot mozzarella, or cream cheeses, fruit, etc.

I am so happy that I found this place through Yelp. I ordered two chimney cakes, one sweet and one savory. For the sweet I got is that Nutella and nuts, and for the savory I got the Hungarian sausage, and I also ordered the additional spicy dip. both chimney cakes were absolutely delicious!!! I highly recommend this business.
