I’ve been coming to Buddy’s my whole life, and they’ve never missed. The food is always consistent—hot, fresh, and full of flavor every single time. You can always count on them to deliver a solid meal, whether it’s dine-in or takeout. It’s one of those places that just never lets you down. A true Detroit classic.

Patrick Dixon

Google
Consistently the worst buddys. Salads are all iceberg hearts. Pizzas taste burned and rarely made correctly. Always a long wait. Added a pic today of the house dressing i received with no vinegar in it. Just further evidence of the horrid inconsistency at this place

Google
This is a take out location only. I ordered my pizza at the counter, the staff was very polite and friendly. It did take about twenty minutes to make, but there are some other shops in the shopping complex that I was able to visit. If you are looking to eat inside, there are a few tables but no table service. The pizza was good and I enjoy the crispy corners. The bread sticks are not as good as other places, very dry.

Google
This is absolutely the worst pizza I have ever had in my life. It tastes like absolutely nothing. It was like eating a grease doused piece of bread with nothing burger toppings. I’m a little confused as to how a Greek style pizza can taste of absolutely nothing when I can see the sad wilted toppings that were placed on top. The cheese pizza was atrocious. No seasoning in the sauce whatsoever and was again a grease bomb. The broccoli cheddar soup was good and the salad and breadsticks were decent but your game is pizza and it was seriously lacking. Maybe it’s the location I’m not sure but this was nearly inedible.

Google
Always enjoy buddy’s pizza. We tried the new temporary spicy dill pickle pizza, it was delicious! Please add it to the menu. It would’ve been even better if they remembered to give my ranch that was supposed to go with it- but it was still delicious and I hope they consider adding it to the menu.

Google
Had a relative pick up a medium antipasto salad for me and it was not very fresh. A decent portion of the lettuce was wilted as if it was sitting out for a while and not cooled. Also, this location only provided 1 small cup of dressing for a salad meant to serve 2-4 people, when other locations will give a small bottle. I wont get food from this location again. I wish I took more pictures but I was so annoyed that I had already threw some in the trash first before I thought to take pictures. I would say I was able to actually eat 70% of the salad. The pizza from this location is fine though.

Google
Tried the new bbq brisket pizza. It was decent but lacked enough meat to warrant it a brisket pizza. I like how the pickles were separate, and the staff explained that adding them too soon would make them soggy. Sauce was good on top as well. I'll try the yard bird pizza next, and hopefully, it will be good. These are limited time pizzas, and i figured I'd try them. I've been eating the pepperoni lunch pizzas for years here, and it's always good and does the job. Overall, Buddy's is a good choice.

Google
Got take out. First time for getting Buddy's. I live approximately 4 1/2 hrs away. Found the pizza mediocre. Got the Mediterranean and the Cicelian.

Yelp
Don't order gluten free pizzas from this location. Always undercooked. When well done requested, still undercooked and doughy. Maybe 1 in 10 orders cooked as asked.

Yelp
Came in on a weekday 30 min before closing. They'd put the chairs up already but had no issues with us eating inside. We put 2 chairs down and had our pizza within 10 min. It was our first Detroit style pizza and the pizza didn't disappoint. It was piping hot. 2 of us shared the 4 square, which was plenty. The peices were a little smaller than I imagined. The crust was crispy and the red sauce was bold and bright. I loved that some of the pepperonis got a little char on them.

Yelp
Quality pizza restaurant. Not only is the pizza delicious, the service and workers are top notch. Very courteous and respectful, surprising for such a small pizza shop. But that just means it's well-run and they care. Will always try to eat here whenever we want Detroit pizza... which is often!

A J.

Yelp
The taste is still kind of there but the pizza has gone downhill. The last few times the standard pepperoni pizza "deep dish" looks like this....barely any deeper than a pizza from the 5 dollar place! The corner piece I didn't take a photo of had so little edge to it, it was like a crust less pizza and you could barely pick it up. Remember when it was actually deep dish, the crust was like an inch or inch and a half ALL the way around? I have great food memory and taking your first bite and having it be like thin crust is SOOO disappointing. What has happened to Buddy's lately!!?? The prices have gone up and the quality has sunk. The only saving grace was the salad hasn't been screwed up yet, but the breadsticks are kind of a joke as well. I won't even post a picture of that since it would reflect poorly on my self image that I even attempted to eat it. They're like rectangular undercooked oily things. Do yourself a favor - find the other Detroit pizza legends out there and go elsewhere. One star may sound harsh, but when the key thing, the pizza, is so rough and you look at what the BILL was for the family gathering...seriously...look at what you paid... one star is just about right.

Jacquie S.

Yelp
The pizza is always good but we were disappointed in the pizza we picked up on Friday! After eating most of one of the pizzas we discovered a hair baked in the crust. Rather unappetizing to say the least. I try to contact a business if there was something wrong with the pizza or service as it is important to know there is a problem. Unfortunately when we called to let them know they were not very concerned and said they would let the pizza preparer know without regard to when the purchase was made. Not great! Maybe go to another location.

Yelp
I received a refund of the monies I paid for my pizza which I do appreciate. I was sent an online survey which I completed and was reimbursed so I felt it fair that I update my review as that was very considerate.

Yelp
Buddy's pizza is a classic and before I moved to Birmingham I had it at Northwestern Hwy location and the original in Detroit. Was glad to see that they had a branch on Maple and Lahser, ordered a pepperoni and mushroom. It was awful!! Crust was poorly made with hardly any cheese or toppings. Never one to hold a grudge against a place, especially one as conveniently located as this, I gave them another chance. Bad idea. Just as poorly made as the previous one. My recommendation would be to avoid this location if you really want a Buddy's pizza. Or if you want a great Detroit style pizza, try the new Como's location at the Maple theater on Telegraph.

Yelp
Avoid this location if possible. This is our second disaster with them. The 'half order' of ravioli, add meatballs for my daughter was missing the meatballs and consisted of three ravioli. Completely missing our antipasto salad, the only item to which my wife and I were looking forward.

Yelp
Tried this location two more times and for some reason they can't make it as good as Farmington location. Crust was very dry, over cooked and very skimpy on toppings

Yelp
Since being diagnosed with celiac disease, it's been so hard to find a good gluten free pizza that well taste good, but also didn't get me sick from cross contamination. The hardest thing for restaurants to understand is cross contamination. They don't want to have a designated cooking area for gf menu items, which in my opinion then what's the point of having GF on your menu at all. However, Buddy's does such a great job keeping their GF safe from cross contamination and it's so so good! They cook it in foil to protect it and change their gloves when prepping these pizzas. I love coming here and every time it has been the best pizza! I highly recommend celiacs coming here!!

Barbara S.

Yelp
The minestrone soup was great. The pizza was a little spicy. Very skimpy on the 2 toppings It was the worst pizza i ever had.

Alan C.

Yelp
To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. Wtf. I ordered a detroiter (which is my favorite pizza) and they gave me a cheesy ass pizza with pepperoni. Basically gave me a little caesars hot n ready. Completely forgot to add seasoning and everything. I called to tell them they messed up and they actually blamed it on DoorDash. Gtfoh. I will never order from this location again. In fact, y'all just need to shut down. Disgrace to the buddy's brand!

Yelp
I feel like a jerk. I eat here at LEAST once a week, and I have neglected to yelp about it via the Internet... but considering god knows I yelp about this place on a daily basis, maybe they'll forgive me. Voted one of Detroit's best Pizza places, this Buddy's is set up more as a carry-out vessel than a "sit-down family gathering" joint. I believe ALL their pizza is square (please, correct me if I am wrong), and their antipasto salad- although consists of ham, salami, cheese with oil and vinegar- is something I crave on a daily basis. For all you high schoolers trolling the streets during your lunch hour- this is a good place to grub considering it's close-by and cheap (they have daily lunch specials).

Charles N.

Yelp
The pizza is absolutely awful and is dry and cold the sauce is absolutely vile, the staff was absolutely downright disrespectful and when i asked to speak to the manager i was told no and to leave please don't ever come to this location.

Yelp
We decided to hit this location instead of the one we initially wanted to (Detroit) because it was closer to home and it fit our daily schedule better. Unfortunately, my experience started out on the negative side when hubby texted me to say they didn't have fries so he got breadsticks instead. Yes, I knew this location was carry-out only, but I still thought they'd have the seasoned fries. So, right off the bat--before even seeing or tasting the food--I mentally reduced their rating by one star for the missing fries (along with no mention of a reduced menu on the website). So my initial pissiness aside, how was the pizza, you're wondering? The breadsticks? The homemade ranch dressing (which they did have, and we got as our breadstick dipping sauce)? The pizza was good--definitely tasty and a notch above the typical Jet's or Dolly's we usually get--but it wasn't nearly the "end all and be all" of pizza like we were led to believe from the advertising, acclaim, and hoopla. The breadsticks were, in a word, awful. Yes, they had to survive the 20-minute drive home...but I would hope a breadstick wouldn't be hard and almost-too-tough to chew by the time we got to the last few pieces. The first pieces were edible and even slightly tasty with a smidge of butter and parmesan (especially when dipped in the LUSCIOUS Ranch dressing) but there is no way I would pay money for those again. And the Ranch, if you couldn't already tell, was yummilicious. YUMMILICIOUS!! I am a sucker for a good Ranch dressing, and this was top notch. But it wasn't enough to overcome the decent pizza and indecent breadsticks. So, I'd say this place is A-OK at three stars. We'd probably be likely to go back if it was closer...or even try another eat-in location...but there are just too many other restaurants we want to try.

Yelp
Really love this pizza. Deep dish and delicious. Wish there was more cheese though. A little on the expensive side. A 4 square cheese and 3 topping 8 square set us back approx $40!
google avatar

Henry G.

Yelp
Great pizza, we take out every thanksgiving break, adopting it as a beautiful, sauce-laden family tradition

Yelp
Really cool awesome place I've been coming to since I was a little kid. The prices are high but it's almost worth it. I totaly love the two boys who work there. Dylan and Cameron, there funny, exciting, and make the visit worth it.

Jenna B.

Yelp
Walked in to pick up a large order and there is a man at the counter who is receiving very poor customer service because they can't find his order and the people behind the counter weren't being very nice to him, and then as he's making effort to try and get his order instead of just leaving he points out the only chef and manager preparing the pizzas and salads do not have masks on. I am so happy he said something and spoke up for our safety. This is disgraceful. As a carry out and delivery only restaurant I expect more. Now I know my food could be contaminated with covid but what if someone had delivery and didn't see the mask less chef and by some chance got sick. It's very disappointing because I did love this pizza.

Tai J.

Yelp
Buddys pizza is my most amazing and most favorite pizzeria in the world. there gluten free is good and i have gotta say i am a big fan

S N.

Yelp
I ordered a Meat Deluxe pizza. But instead of getting all five meats as described in the menu, there were just three. I was disappointed to say the least. The pie was tasty but I should at least get what I ordered.

Molly L.

Yelp
Amazing pizza. Best in the world. But whenever I go in they never have slices available, even thought they have a sign posted that says "Slices all day every day". Extremely frustrating.
google avatar

James P.

Yelp
Pizza. Get it. Some of the best pizza in Detroit. It has won numerous awards Pizza Woo!
google avatar

John O.

Yelp
I can vouch for the fact that their regular pies are top notch. But I'm gluten free and the gluten free pizza I ordered from Buddy's was one of the worst meals I've had in the last 5 years. To call it "soggy goop" is being diplomatic. Avoid at all costs.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been going to this Buddy's location for years now, and am truly impressed with the food! They offer pizza by the slice, which a lot of the Buddy's locations do not. It's a nice place to grab an after school snack or an on-the-go meal. They also have cookies and drinks to polish it off. This location is carry-out only, although they do have a few tables and a high top area if you wish to eat there; you just won't get waited on. The pizza here is delicious - a deep dish style with the fried crunchy crust. Buddy's makes their pizzas "backwards" so the pepperonis are on the bottom, then the cheese layer, then the pizza sauce, which is definitely unique, and a nice way to change it up from what we normally have. I would definitely recommend going here. The only downside.. it is located at a busy intersection, and because plum market is in the same shopping center, the parking lot always seems to be busy.

Max K.

Yelp
I ordered a pizza, order was screwed up, and was given a free voucher. When I returned, they claimed it didn't exist, and in the end, lost 1 hour of my life over this joint.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Paid $18.00 for 8 slices, asked for and paid for extra pep,s and each piece had 1 to 2 pieces of pep on each slice. Offered a free pizza next time, Very disappointed in quality of pizza. For all the mentions of the #1 pizza in Michigan and in the US. and how it was rated #1 pizza in Detroit, who rated it????? Could be just me but I can mention several other pizza's in the area that are better tasting, much better price and tasted great. I have no interest in even getting the free pizza they offered, Assistant Manager did offer a free pizza at next visit. Really $18.00 for 8 slices. Sad
google avatar

Matthew M.

Yelp
Excellent square pizza. We've ordered a bunch of pizzas and salad twice when in town visiting family. Both times the order has been done exactly when asked for. Staff is young, friendly and nice. Recommend strongly.

Forbes R.

Yelp
This is the most luxurious pizza you will eat in the Detroit area. If pizza were bedsheets, Buddy's pizza would be made of 1,000 thread count Egyptian cotton. So luxurious!
google avatar

Steve D.

Yelp
Lunch special: 2 slices of piping hot detroit style and a pop for under $6 bucks. Cant beat the taste! +5 yum

Adam V.

Yelp
I ordered a pizza and antipasto salad from this location it was absolutely Amazing!! Food was cooked perfect and salad tasted fresh. My coworkers and I will definitely be ordering from this location in the future. Great employees filled with happiness and great customer service. Definitely a 5 star for us.

Mark G.

Yelp
I have lived in the same house for 23 years and we have used Buddy's carryout since they established their place at Maple and Lahser. This last time, we ordered a two topping pizza for 22 bucks I think. We got 22 bucks of air. Virtually no toppings and I think they blow holes through the crust. We have NEVER been able to eat an 8 piece. Now we can. For twice the price. Way overpriced for what you get.
google avatar

Ryan T.

Yelp
Solid pizza! I got the Scilian and it was fantastic. This place has apparently won all kinds of local awards and a few national ones too. I think what makes it stand out is the quality of the crust, fairly thick square-cut pizza but not too doughy.
google avatar

Richard F.

Yelp
This is really a take out location. It is OK for picking up a pie to take home, but don't go there planning to have a dining experience. I personally am not a fan of Buddy's Detroit style pizza, but family members love it and I have become used to it. Coming from New York and having lived in the New Haven Connecticut area (think Tomatoes aPizza), I really can't call this pizza. It is more like what we used to call Greek Pizza when I lived back east. But if you love eating at Buddy's on Northwestern highway and you are nearby and need takeout, this is the place to go.
google avatar

Catherine H.

Yelp
The Margarita Pizza on multigrain and the Antipasto salad are the best! No delivery, but worth picking up! Not for eating in, just take out. I walked by this place several times thinking it was just a run of the mill pizzeria joint, but it is actually the pizza jewel of Detroit!
google avatar

Russ C.

Yelp
I'm from and live in Chicago and Buddy's Pizza is as good as it gets. I always get their spinach pizza and they have the best spinach lasagna in the world. Good chicken fingers and fries. Family and kid friendly as well. Whenever I am in town Buddy's is a must.
google avatar

Sweet P.

Yelp
Good Michigan/Detroit style deep dish. Even better the next day when you re-heat in the oven (per the pizza box instructions). Favorite Caesar salad (super garlicky dressing) and I do really like their macaroni and cheese.
google avatar

Aleksandra P.

Yelp
Love buddy's pizza and so happy to have one close by. Ordered a Detroiter pizza and a Antipasto salad a few months back. Both were ready when I arrived and tasted just as good as they do at their sit down locations. The girl at the counter was friendly and polite.
google avatar

Otis M.

Yelp
There are a number of pizza styles out there and I honestly love most of them. While some chains/ locations offer a number of types- thin, regular, thick, all corners, etc., with mixed success, Buddy's focuses on one, the deep dish. There is a history to Buddy's which you can read about elsewhere, suffice to say the deep dish is core to the brand. They use the blue steel pans which crisps the crust on the edges and keeps it fluffy in the middle. All the typical toppings you expect to build a pie to your tastes. I do like the hawaiian as they use a tangy BBQ sauce in place of the tomato sauce, but frankly it's all good. I like the sit down Buddy's on Northwestern but this place is great for a carry out pizza and salad. Some times they pump them out too fast so tell them you don't want a soggy one or order it well done.
google avatar

Zachary L.

Yelp
Always so delicious. My wife and I come here all of the time. Buy their pizza. Worth the wait seriously. Good job ha ha

Yelp
It's great for a reason! Love the crust and tomato sauce.

Matt K.

Yelp
I have family who live the area so that's why you see a review from someone located outside of Michigan. I haven't been to Buddy's in the last 6 months so if my review isn't super specific you know why. Whenever I travel to visit my family in Michigan I always make sure to eat Buddy's Pizza at least one night for dinner. I love the pizza, especially the crust. I always get a set of four slices of some special pizza and eat them in one sitting. It is a little hard to do but I muscle through it and its kind of becoming a tradition. The rating is only 4 stars and not a perfect 5 because of the staff which assisted me the last time I went. One night I was looking online at Buddy's menu looking for what pizza I wanted to order. I found a special pizza that sounded really awesome so I decided I wanted to try that. I knew that the Buddy's I was going to get it from was primarily a take out place but i didn't care. I decided to drive over and order it in person and thought I could find something to do for 20 minutes while it was cooking (I didn't feel like calling). When I got there the place was pretty much empty, i think it was around 8 pm. I walked up to the counter and ordered the pizza which I saw on the website. The guy taking the orders told me that they did not serve that pizza. I asked why and the guy got weirdly defensive telling me bout how their menu is not the same as the one online (which i guess is for the main Buddy's restaurant) and that it if I wanted to get that pizza I should go to that restaurant. I was caught a little off guard but I quickly scanned their walls which displayed some of their special pizza options and chose one of them. The guy scribbled down my order and I went for a walk for 20 mins. When I came back to get my pizza the same guy cashed me out. He seemed to rush even though there was no one in line behind me. It was weird. I got home and ate the pizza like I always did and enjoyed it, however I was still a little frazzled from my encounter. Still the pizza was awesome, I just must have caught that particular employee on the wrong day. It's surprising I still remember this 6 months after it happened but I think that's because it was so odd. Still though I would go to this same establishment again just making sure to use their menu and not the one online.

William Z.

Yelp
This place is awesome. Has a very Detroit themed vibe and has one of the greatest pizza I've ever tried. My family went there and the service was great and we had no problems.

Melanie S.

Yelp
I love the special pizza, deep dish with 8 pieces. Pared with the greek salad the combination will make several meals for a family of 2. My only wish would be for the salad to NOT use ice berg lettuce which is as useless a lettuce for nutrition as one can get. If you check their web site you can get access to coupons as the pizza can be a bit pricey.

Joe J.

Yelp
Great pizza if you have the time, the only other place I would recommend if you want delivery instead is Primos Pizza Birmingham
