My experience with budget was horrible. They called me the day before and said they don’t have the car I reserved and had already paid for. The staff member suggested I call other budgets in the area to transfer a car over. I asked why she couldn’t do that since it’s a budget computer system and they messed up the reservation, and all she would say is “sorry.” There was no offer to upgrade to a different car without costing me, no offer to call and find the vehicle from a different location - Budget does not care about customer satisfaction at all. I drove a little further to Enterprise and had an incredible experience.

I went to take rental car that I was booked three days prior the pick up day, they have worst customer service. The guy,1 before he checked on the system he told me that I didn’t book the car. 2 Plus he offered other car while the car I booked standing on the parking lots. 3 I went there in the morning and he told me that the car isn’t ready and he promised me that he will clean the car and get it ready by noon. However when I get back there the car wasn’t ready. They just focused on the payment. All the workers are unprofessional. I will never go back there and I don’t advise anyone.

Been using this location for about 5 years. From 2 day rentals to week long plus van rentals driving to and from the Midwest. Never had an issue. The billing and deposit is always straight up, easy to extend the rentals if needed and the conditions of the vehicles are always acceptable if not better. 5 stars.

If you don't want to be charged bogus damage fees, find another rental company! First off, I reserved a small car and when I arrived, was told the only cars available were an enormous pickup truck or a large minivan. I had no choice, so I took the minivan. I returned the vehicle on time, was told everything was in order and then a MONTH later I receive a letter in the mail claiming, with no proof, that I caused tire damage, and would be charged about $90. There was no damage when I returned the rental, and this is clearly a scam. I've called customer service several times and am simply getting the runaround. Avoid this fraudulent company!

Since "New management" in later 2024 very poor customer service experience. Wants to rent only electric vehicles at more cost. However, EV's do not have the "range" they also do not work well in cold weather. Charge units not functioning during colder weather. Poor consistent payment day each week too. Cannot exchange vehicle that needs required maintenance too. Horrible service. I wish the old management was still there at least I could contact and communicate with them.

I reserved a moving truck a couple weeks in advance. then the morning of, they called to tell me they had no trucks available that day. Then they charged me a $150 "no show" fee. I called to dispute and the woman said it would be turned over to a manager, who never returned my call or refunded me the money. Editing to add that I disputed the charge via my bank and they approved it. Budget still never called me back to refund my money or tell me they were denying the refund. Jerks.

They want your blood type Social Security your credit card number debit card number and like $500 an extra fees just to rent a car for a day unless you feel like giving out every single personal piece of information to some guy in a lobby full of people after you did all this shit online already I wouldn't recommend it

I picked up a car at PDX that was not driving well and the interior was in rough shape. I stopped by Budget on 82nd and Muaad corrected the situation. He quickly got me into a drivable car. He was nice to work with!

Located in a kind of skeevy part of 82nd. The building looks sketchy and the inside isn't much better. It was a gray cloudy day and the only lights on inside were a desk lamp. The service was ok. We got our car pretty quick but it was not clean. There were food crumbs in the cup holders, something that looked like ice cream had dripped in between the seats, the windshield was so dirty on the inside to the point you could hardy see out of it when the sun was in front of you and some kind of yellow gunk on the passenger side window. Also the tires were practically bald. We didn't complain at pickup because we were on a tight schedule but did mention it upon return. They didn't seem to care. I won't be renting from this location again.

Needed a rental truck to move some furniture, this Budget Truck location was a humane experience for me! The people are friendly and helpful, not the usual thug I sometimes meet when renting a truck. It was painless. Got a 12ft truck for $108, about 4 hours. The truck was totally working and had no problems. They do work you to add some insurance, something to think about in advance. When I was about to leave, after leaving the truck, I realized that this was the location that we returned our first Budget Truck to, when we first moved across the country from Charlotte to Portland back in 1991!

Do not rent from this company or location. I rented a car for less than 24 hours and was told the rental fee would be $36. What I wasn't told was that there would be a $200 hold on my card that would not be returned to me for 5 days. When I saw the charge on my account, I tried calling the location twice but couldn't get a hold of anyone but customer service. When I spoke to customer service about the charge, they said that the employees at Avis should have told me about the charge. Both employees (pick up and return) failed to tell me about this charge. It is also not stated in writing that I would have this charge. I lost my job due to COVID and have taken a part time position at minimum wage so finances are tight right now. Fortunately I was paid today, however this could have very easily put my account into overdraft resulting in overdraft fees. When I asked the customer service agent if they would have refunded me overdraft charges had they occurred due to not knowing about the $200 hold, he said no. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was hung up on. When I called back to speak with a supervisor - I was again hung up on. They have my rental agreement number which has a record of my phone number and no one has called me back. This is not transparency in business practices. I will NEVER rent from this company again. Train your employees correctly and take responsibility for your lack of training. Now I have to negotiate an extension on my rent since I will not have the full amount for 5 days - the amount of time this charge should come back to my account.

Rented a car in Seattle, dropped it off here five hours later, employee doing the inspection said everything's fine. Two months after get a $75.00 charge on my credit card from Budget Car Rental with no explanation. Called customer service, who sent me to billing, who sent me to sales (?), who sent me to claims, who close at 2PM PDT so they hung up on me while I was on hold. The $75.00 is apparently a cleaning fee. Car was perfectly clean, it was a sunny day, and I only had a laptop bag with me. A rude piece of work in billing snidely told me they'll email me photos in 3-5 business days. Don't give them your credit card details unless you have money and dignity to waste on them.

Booked my 16 foot truck well in advance of our move and We get there and they have a van for us. Were not apologetic at all. Acted like it was no big deal in fact when we had movers coming and finding another truck cut into us paying them. DONT RENT FROM HERE.

Sarah saved the day! I tried Enterprise but at the location on 82nd they're closed on the weekends. Perhaps they believe no one needs to rent a car to go on vacation on the weekend. I tried Hertz but they weren't open until 9am. Perhaps they believe no one wants to get an early start on their vacations. I tried Avis but they were triple the rate for the same car, the same time frame, the same everything as Budget. So I went with Budget. And it appears we got a bit of an upgrade, a sedan with only 808 miles and the wife is now happily driving off to her vacation while I sit at home washing dishes and mowing the lawn. So we booked online and paid online. When we got to the rental store it was conveniently located on 82nd spitting distance from Foster Road. The dude that sorta greeted us was as half awake as I was so we were on equal ground. A bit of miscommunication was quickly resolved when Sarah informed us that the drop off time from 3:30 to 5:00pm was totally doable and wouldn't result into an additional day charge. What a relief! The wife was happy with the car and I'm . . .well I already explained. Good Customer Service. Easy to find. Convenient online shopping. Open at 8am on the weekend. I think we found a new car rental place.

My girlfriend and I wanted to rent a truck to help with her move across town. We reserved a truck online the night before and when we arrived to pick it up the man at the desk was a little rude to begin with. Then we started going through all the details of everything and once we found out the final price we decided it was gonna be a lot more then just going to Uhaul. We then decided to cancel our reservation and left. Later on we found out they still charged us 50 bucks for not using the truck. (Would have been cool if he had mentioned that while we were cancelling). Anyways we ended up using Uhaul that's just a little further down foster road and the lady there was really nice and helpful and the prices were a lot lower. I wouldn't recommend using this company and I would give Uhaul your business.

There may be a good, or reasonable, or barely acceptable, Budget rental location somewhere else, but this one is hellishly bad and I would not try to rent a truck from them again if you paid me. The Budget corporate website, to put it nicely, does not seem to accurately reflect the services that are actually offered here -- for instance, it claims they offer after-hours drop off, which they deny strenuously. And then they pull all kinds of upselling tricks with insurance when you come in with a web reservation, in the rudest possible fashion. I finally bugged out on my reservation when the guy literally insisted, flatly and without apology or politeness, that I had to *call* my auto insurance provider in front of him and ask them to answer a list of questions before he would allow me to decline his add-on insurance. It was like some awful Ricky Gervais character trying to do a parody of a hard sell, except not funny. From the parking lot, I called over to U-Haul on Powell, where an incredibly friendly human being set me up with a rental truck for considerably less money in about five minutes. It was like night and day compared to the cold-blooded creepiness and awful tactics of this Budget. It's very clear no one here cares in the least about customer service or even plain politeness. Avoid this awful business at all costs.

I always use this Budget location when renting and so do my out of town family. I like Budget because you get unlimited mileage. The only down side to them, has been the last two cars we've rented were not super clean inside. One of them we refused because it smelled like total cat pee. This last time was one of the hardest times I've had renting, no matter what coupon code I was putting in, it kept giving me the same rate and the guy at the 800 number was a standard, "yes, thank you maam' no matter what I was saying.. Please Budget get people who understand the language to man the call centers. I ended up not being able to find my reservation at all to fix it because the guy had put in a totally off name, even though I spelled it very slowly for him. I made a whole different reservation on my own, online and then went in and the guy at the counter, who was really nice, let me bring in my Entertainment coupon book and we upgraded two car classes for the same price as a standard car, so we ended up in a Buick LaCross for 11 days for $200 total. The place is looking ghetto inside these days, but since I am not sticking around to do anything else but grab the keys, I sadly accept it.

I was moving from Portland to San Diego and when I went to pick it up truck and the first one they gave me had the front right headlight out. That's absolutely crazy considering they are supposed to inspect these vehicles regularly. Which we didn't notice til we got to the house so we had to drive all the way back. I called and the guy told me to either buy a headlight and have it installed or bring it back.Then the second truck he tried to give us had a nearly flat tire and tons of dings and scratches on it. The third was better but the entire bumper was smashed in. Definitely just ghetto compared to uhaul. I tried to call corporate and complain but they sent me round and round transferring me around the call center. A while headache when moving is already a lot of stress

Had a rental reservation for 3:30 p.m. They close at 4. I was unable to get to the location by the time they closed, and returned immediately when they opened the next morning at 9 a.m. After 30 minutes of waiting in line, they told me that the car I reserved was gone and they told me that I had to wait until they got another one in. That'd be in 3 hours -- maybe. How many business hours went by before the car I paid for was given away? In what world do business practices that are as predatory as these go unnoticed? Seems like getting screwed over is par for the course with budget and this location. An expensive lesson to learn.

Do not rent a truck from Budget Rental. I made a reservation for 12' moving truck to pick up at 5pm. I showed up at 4:50pm and waited for 15 minutes while the person helped a customer ahead of me. After waiting 15 minutes I was told that someone from Budget should have called me to tell me that their trucks were vandalized and someone had stolen the catalytic converters out of all of them and there was no truck available to me. Nobody called me prior to my reservation, however they did call when I was headed to a different rental place to tell me I wouldn't have a truck to rent. The trucks they did have looked pretty rundown so my husband was glad there wasn't a truck available. The last to the employee before I left was to please make sure my credit card isn't charged for the rental. Well, what do you know???? On the following Monday they charged my credit card for a no-show. I will never try to rent from Budget ever again for a car or truck. If you need a moving truck visit U-Haul on 82nd Ave. They were wonderful and have plenty of trucks in great condition and they rented to us on short notice with no reservation thank goodness as we were moving our daughter to college the next day.

This place is great! Sarah was amazing!!! She made the whole experience so easy and even went out of her way to accommodate me. We had rented a truck for a few hours and thought we would be back before 6 pm when they close, however due to traffic and extenuating circumstances we pulled into the lot at 5:59 pm without filling up the gas tank to be able to make it back in time. Even though she could have immediately closed up and taken the key, she told me to go get gas and that she would wait for me to get back before closing up! I am so grateful for her compassion and willingness to go the extra mile to help out her customers. She was also very informative over the phone when giving me a quote and made sure to tell me about all fees that would be involved. The transaction process was simple and easy from start to finish thanks to Sarah. The truck was in good condition and it was cheaper than renting a uhaul. Overall I am very satisfied with the experience I had at Budget Car Rental!

Booked a van online to use for the day with the plan of dropping off the same evening. The website allowed the drop off time but once we arrived for pickup we were told that due to the high crime area they did not allow after hours drop off. The employee offered no excuse for how the booking was allowed and just said you'll have to bring the van back first thing in the morning. That was not an option for us so we canceled the van due to their mistakes. The employee confirmed there wouldn't be any charges. 2 weeks later the credit card was charged $50 for a no show. Very ghetto location and clearly shady employees. Waiting to see if the charge reversal went through.

I just rented a car from them last minute, I made the reservation on the Thursday night, and picked it up Friday (and then returned Sunday). I got the least expensive, most basic car you could get, and they automatically upgraded me up! That was really nice, and it was fun driving around the little Mazda 2 and having it zoom! Zoom! around town. And, I was also pleasantly surprised that there were no hidden fees or anything, and I got paid exactly what i was expecting to pay. So, that was really nice.

There is also an Avis location here but I would recommend never renting a car from here ever! They have multiple rates for the same type of car so it's very hard to lock down the cheapest rate and they will not help you in that regard. If you are second over your drop off time they charge you for a whole other day. Horrible customer service and the manager treats everyone like they are trying to steal the rental cars. They are always trying to put you in the cheapest model of that type of car instead of the one actually listed. Pick a different location to rent from this one is horrible!! It was a complete nightmare trying to rent from this place. Hope my post helps!

I had a truly wonderful experience at this place. I locked my keys in the trunk (I know, so embarrassing), but the owner was incredibly kind and super helpful during the entire ordeal. I can't explain how truly grateful I am, for his help, at a time I was really, super stressed. Rent from here! The prices are super reasonable and the people are amazing!!!

I made a reservation for a moving truck rental. I received the confirmation and even a reminder. Two hours before I was to pick up, I received a phone call that they had no trucks. This was a Saturday, 12/14/19, and everything was set. I tried to work with them as I could reschedule for Wednesday. They said they wouldn't have any trucks in the Portland area until after Christmas. They said they rented them all to FedEx. I asked how they could do business like this and not honor reservations. He hung up on me. Needless to say, I wish I would have read the reviews before trying to rent from Budget. I will never be a customer again!

The WORST truck rental place to deal with. Where to begin...Their location is completely inaccurate. We got confirmation and the address given was their OLD location but they didn't care to change addresses? Sketchy. Secondly..the man working there was utterly unfriendly and clearly didn't care to deal with us. We would ask him questions and he would only nod in response... no words... i think he only said like 10 words in total. Just rude. So we went through with the rental but when it was time to drop the truck off.. the two locations here would NOT answer their phones. Granted this was July 4th but it was clear they were not open. My fiancé then called customer service to ask their opinion of what to do since we only borrowed the truck for one day and they told us to drop the keys in the drop box with a copy of the rental agreement and it would be good and we wouldn't be charged another day. Guess what? We were charged two days. Shocking!! They tried to tell us that they were open until 12 but both my fiancé and I tried calling between 10-12 and not a single person picked up. I'm talking at least 6 calls from both of us. So they wouldn't refund us our money that we clearly shouldn't have paid for the second day. Thankfully we will NEVER rent from here again nor will we recommend them to anyone.

No hassle. Hardworking employees. We waited in a long line to pick up our car but everything was smooth. Dropping off was seamless. Would rent from here again. This location was 15 minute drive (without traffic) and a 45 minute Max & bus ride from the airport. I chose this location because online it was $100 less than a rental at the airport. It was worth it in our case.

If possible the review would have been a no star review. I attempted to rent a vehicle from this location, I made a reservation and even got a confirmation phone calls about four days before the date. I believed that everything was going to plan and then the day before I get another call saying I will now have to go completely out if my way to go get the vehicle I reserved. I'm going to be honest and say that I could have gone but the way I was told was what had me cancel the reservation. I was simply told; we don't have your car so you have to go get it in NE PDX. No we're sorry or for your inconvenience we will lower your price. Just nothing. I asked for the manager person stated he was and I asked for the DM and gave him a call only to not get an answer but also never get a call back. Safe to say that I will never recommend Budget nor will I ever attempt to use them again.

Worst customer service. Its like they don't care about making money at all. We reserved a truck, and then went to the location to pick it up - well, that was their OLD location and no one bothered to tell us, so we figured out the new location and the man working couldn't even be bothered to apologize for the inconvenience. Then he told my husband that the 10 foot truck we had reserved was unavailable, and offered a "Free upgrade" to a 16 foot. We didn't have that much to move and didn't want such a large vehicle. He didn't care. It was more his rude and flippant demeanor (as other reviewers have noted) that pushed us over the edge. We cancelled our reservation and he didn't bat an eye or try to be more helpful. So frustrating. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else!

Go with Uhaul if you are moving. We booked a budget truck and and they wanted $50 just for the insurance. the card you pay with has to match the card on the drivers license, I was going to drive and rent the truck but we were going to use my roommates card and they did not allow this. We canceled called Uhaul last minute and they had a truck it was fast and easy and way better customer service. Non of the payment issues and it was only $15 to get insured. Anytime I move in the future I will never go with budget. Uhual also had 3 helpful employees and budget had ONE guy.

Rented a truck from Budget Rentals from a different location with a reservation to return to this Budget Rental facility. The truck was great. Upon return to this facility, they tried to charge me an extra $12 fee (Special site fee). I said no and they quickly removed the bogus charges. Watch out when you return to this location!

I have rented cars all over the west coast, and have never had this terrible customer service in my life. I booked online to ensure my rental would be available. I waited in line for 15 mins before I asked how long it would be and if it would be better for me to come back at a later time. The woman who was working only shrugged her shoulders and said I don't know it's going to be awhile. I don't mind waiting however if I am not treated with respect when I'm asking for help then it's a little unsettling. When I asked for an estimate on the time she rolled her eyes and said your going to have to wait. She was not wearing a name tag so I could not provide the employees name. When I was helped the employee did not do a walk around of the rental which has never happen to me. And she said it was fine. I'm pretty sure that's against company policy. The car I reserved was not the car I was given. And I am highly disappointed I even asked to pay for an upgrade and she said that's what we've got so that's what you get. I will not be renting from them ever again.

Do not rent from this location. We reserved a car two days prior to pick up and when we went to pick it up, we were told there were none available. We had to return two hours later to pick up a different car than we had ordered. When we arrived they were unable to process our credit score (a failure on their part) and even though we had already prepaid for our car, they would not give us the rental. We then asked to cancel that reservation so we could process the rental payment with a credit card. They told us that our reserved car was now going to another person and that they had no more rentals for us and if we wanted to rent with Budget, we would have to go to the Portland Airport. The cancelation fee for this negligence on their part was $50. We spent an hour on the phone with corporate explaining our circumstances and they were not helpful at all. Besides this large oversight on their part, the staff at this location made getting a car, or lack there of very unenjoyable. There is an Enterprise down the street which we went to after and had a wonderful experience.

This is the worst Avis/Budget Rental place I've ever rented at. We've rented with Avis/Budget for years near our place in Gresham which we liked but that place closed and Avis transferred our original reservation to this place and we had to pay higher rate. First, when we got there the lady who was the only person at the counter did not even greeted or acknowledge us. We've waited 15 minutes for her to finish with the person she was dealing with. Then, when she was done, I was about to approach she just told me "wait, not yet" as she was finishing up typing. No "I'll be with you as soon as I've finished up" or something. Luckily, her coworker came and helped us. The car that they gave us had so many dings and not even clean. There were trash inside the consoles from last renter. The outside of the car was dirty. We were driving about an hour to our destination and we hear this thumping noise coming from the transmission. The noise got worse, we were worried the car will break down. We told them that when we returned the car, and the lady (who ignored us) just laughed, the guy who helped us just said "other than that how was the car?"

I have used this location for years. I have received excellent service, without any pressure tactics being used to pressure me into purchasing additional services that my insurance already provides for! My rental car is waiting for me, when there is a problem, it is addressed quickly and I am on my way. This business is a long walk from the MAX Line.

I rented a car, last minute on Friday night, because I had an unexpected funeral and family gathering to go to the next day. My own car has been in the repair shop, so I walked next door from where I work to Budget. All seemed OK, except the person would not give me the same rate that I had seen on line. OK, I did rent last minute, and they were 15 minutes from closing, so I just had to eat the extra $14 a day. They had just washed a little Toyota Yaris, so I thought I was in good shape when I drove home that evening. I did not do any other driving that night. I got up the next morning, dressed to go the funeral, and found one of the front tires flat. I did not have time to deal with it, and had to get a family member to drive up from out of town to get me. I did not get home until 9pm, so still could not deal with the car. Sunday morning came, I put a bit of air in the tire with my hand pump, and headed to the gas station. The tire was very hard to fill, but I got it full enough to get it back to the rental place. I also put in a whole $2 worth of gas, so I wouldn't get charged, just in case. I told the person at the counter-the original person who rented to me-what happend, and could I possible have some of the cost refunded since I was unable to drive it. He said, in front of 4 other customers, that I could have picked up a nail on my drive home, and that he had to trace the history of the car to prove it, that they had not rented to me that way. After about 5 minutes, and there were 4 other people waiting, he didn't say anything about the car's travel history, but took $4 a day off of my bill and still would not match their internet rate. All the other customers looked at me with disbelief. I don't know if this person's hands were tied to some sort of strick rules, but he was not customer service oriented. Trying to prove me wrong in front of the other customers is only going to bite this business in the butt. I only drove the car to and from the rental place, was never rude, just asked him to give me some sort of discount. I work next door, and we refer our customers to Budget all the time, but we will not any more. Crappy customer service.

I have been renting cars from this Budget location for 2 years. I have received nothing but exceptional service and vehicles. They greet me with my name when I pick up my vehicles and return them. I have had an issue with my charges only once and it was fixed immediately. I will rent from them and no other location or agencies, unless they are sold out.

Rented a car from Portland Airport Budget 8/31 - 9/3. Filled the car up before return. At check-in, was charged the "Fuel Charge" of $16.99. The way the employee handled it, it was clear he expected me to say "OK" and be on my way to the airport. I have no question that this is a company policy to charge people and make them catch it. Dishonesty is not a long-term strategy. At a minimum, ALWAYS check your receipt. Ideally, don't rent from these thieves at all.

I will do everything in my power to never rent from this location again. When I arrived to pick up the van there were a handful of people who had reserved their moving trucks two weeks in advance, but their vehicles were not available. When I got to my rental van, there were soda spills in the back, and what looked like soup spilled on the driver seat. I asked the employee to wipe down the van, which he did. Once my family loaded into the van, they said it looked like there was vomit in the cupholders. I was told the location closed at 6pm, but when I called to confirm that they were still open when I was a few minutes away, I was told the location had closed early. This caused quite an inconvenience, as I have been driving for two hours to make it for the 6 PM closure. I then had to keep the van overnight and return it first thing in the morning. The woman that helped me upon returning the vehicle is completely unapologetic about the vomit in the cupholders or the early closure. She simply said that they were open (even though I was told on the phone that they had closed early and to not bother coming in). I think because of my frustration... I asked her to at least apologize about the vomit in the cupholders, and she said she could only do one thing at a time. She never apologized. I've been happy with my corporate contact for Avis, but completely dissatisfied with this location.
