Buena Onda Backpackers

I had the pleasure of staying at Buena Onda Backpackers last summer and had an amazing time. It has the best view of the beautiful ocean and town. It is surrounded by nature and we saw monkeys in the trees around the equipped kitchen, pool table and relaxing hammock area several times. It is a short walk from the center but nice to get away from the noise and although the neighborhood is dark at night, it feels safe. Housekeeping is regular and efficient. The breakfasts are delicious, fresh and healthy and the coffee is strong. The owners are lovely and accommodating and I look forward to returning to this beautiful place one day.

The rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, and the common areas are a great place to relax or meet other travelers. What a beautiful stay at Buena Onda Backpackers. I received a warm welcome, and throughout my stay I always felt supported for questions about the accommodation and the surroundings. There’s an idyllic view on San Juan del Sur and the building has nice chill areas. The atmosphere is warm and calm. The rooms are comfortable, spacious and have a personal touch in colours and wooden details. I really enjoyed my stay, thank you!

Really lovely hostel, with a nice view and good breakfast. Lovely and friendly owners. Only down side is the comparably high price for a very basic accommodation and that currently constructions works are happening. But otherwise definitely worth to stay.

This is the nicest place I've stayed in Nicaragua. Good value for your money and a delicious different breakfast every day. The owner goes out of his way to help you out with whatever you need. The place is very clean, rooms are very comfortable and the bed is great. There is a small kitchen where you can cook, the view is stunning. It's easy to just spend a day hanging out in the common area. They have 3 very friendly and energetic dogs that like to say hello and a pool table to boot. Fully recommend!

We stayed two nights at Buena onda and it was one of the best, if not the best, places we’ve stayed thus far. The room is quite large and comfortable and the AC was a huge added bonus. There’s a great view from upstairs in the common area with a pool table. Charlie was nothing but helpful during our stay and we would definitely recommend anyone stay there. ||The neighbourhood where the hostel is located is very slightly off the beaten path in a poorer neighbourhood but everyone was extremely welcoming and friendly and the hostel has a locked gate and cameras for safety. ||Charlie’s dogs were also a highlight in our stay. Nice hostel, with a really amazing rooftop terrace with nice views of san Juan del Sur beach, pool table, shared kitchen well equipped, hammocks... The place is just 5/10 minutes walk to the main street and the beach. Really good breakfast fresh cooked and different every morning included Good wifi Cute and friendly dogs

I have been visiting Buena Onda Backpackers hostel for a number of years and can honestly say that I have always enjoyed my stay in this comfortable, quirky building located in barrio Frente Sur and provides us visitors with a wonderful view of the bay of San Juan Del Sur.||Last November, the hostel came under new management and I was unable to prevent myself from making comparisons between the current and previous owners.||The building, it’s location, comfort and views have not changed, but the garden areas flanking the steps to the main entrance have been totally ruined and the sight and smell of dog poo is ever present. The steps should have a guard rail as the steps are very uneven, a potential hazard.||It is understandable that new owners would want to put their stamp their new adventure, but I think they should be mindful of the paying guests when drilling holes, mixing cement, hammering and sanding down huge planks of wood. I think we all understand that maintenance tasks are always required, but major improvements could wait until the low season when disruption to guests would be minimised.||The breakfasts were disappointing. The cost of this meal is included in the price, in my opinion there was a distinct lack of choice, and the only thing you could guarantee, is that it would be dished up somewhere between 8am and 9am. On one occasion we suffered a 27hr power outage, needless to say, breakfast failed to be delivered, no explanation from the management, they obviously had no plan B. They could have provided something, what they didn’t provide, was a refund for the breakfast not provided.
