This place is just brilliant! The location at the beach at Punta Zicatela and the cute bungalows are one thing, but the big difference to many places I have been are the people! A huge mix of travelers from all over the world, mixed with Mexicans remote-working from here and people on vacations combined with the friendly and helpful staff (thanks Pierre!) made me feel very welcome during my three nights here 😃! Thanks for the good time, I'll be back!

Ended up staying over a week here. First night in a private room next to the dorm and facing the road. The night was very loud and both me and my partner had a rough time sleeping. We then had the possibility to change to a cabaña wich was awesome and we ended up having a great time at Buena Onda. Right on the beach, takes less than a minute to walk out from the cabana and step into the Pacific Ocean. Good common kitchen, clean shared toilets/showers and possible to refill water bottles for a small fee. Best part (as it should be) is the staff. Olivier, Pierre, Mattias and everyone else. Gracias, Mercí 🙌

The only way to fall asleep here is to blackout because the dorms are a sauna. Took 4 showers throughout the night but couldnt conquer the heat. Additionally the mosquito nets have tons of holes so you're in for the longest night of your life. Advice to the hostel would me to give every bed a fan and to drain this mosquito breeding pond. Was never so happy to leave a hostel. Glad I only booked for one day.

Down to earth, cabanas with electricity, bathrooms, showers. Friendly service, right on the beach, nearby restaurants and laundry. Drinks for sale on site

Beautiful space with great vibes! The owners and crew are really friendly and the space is cleaned daily. A lot of effort has gone to the plants and overall beauty, and it shows! Camping is a good cheap option for the area, and they have tents that you can use... Although the tents owned by the hostel are in really rough shape, so if you can bring your own. We struggled with not getting enough sleep because the camping is right next to the common area. People staying up late and then being woken up early as the beer bottles were noisily cleaned up by the staff. But! We loved everything else about it and were sad to leave. We will come back again!

I was supposed to saty 1 week, I exteded for 2 weeks! It's one of the very few places that are directly on the beach, it's very central in La Punta and you can easily take a collectivo to get to the center of Puerto Escondido. I stayed in the dorm, which is great for solo travelers. The cabanas also look amazing! The place is very clean. The staff is super nice, I got sick while I was there and they all took care of me, making sure I had everything I needed. Only downside: if you're a solo traveler is a bit harder to make friends.

My first experience of a hostel and it was an amazing experience. I stayed in Cabaña 6 with my hubby: The bed is firm, which we liked. The pillows are quite flat, which I didn't like but - it isn't the end of the world. The room is very simple, ours came with a fan which was perfect for us. The shared bathroom/ showers were cleaned regularly which made staying in a hostel much easier. (Only downside is 9 times out of 10 you can overhear multiple voices in the next cubicle having some adult fun - I assume they were playing an intense game of chess) Staff are friendly and helpful, they are super accommodating. I travel with medication that needs refrigerating and they kept it in their staff fridge for the duration of our stay. Bug-wise the mosquitoes only tend to get really bad at night (which is typically the case) so the mosquito net around the bed comes in handy. I also encountered 2 cockroaches at two separate points during our stay, each encounter in our room and equally horrifying. Minus 1 star because my pet peeve in life is when places advertise that they have WiFi but it doesn't actually work. Also the bathrooms are cleaner than the kitchen... if you want to actually use the kitchen you may struggle 🤷‍♀️ Overall I would recommend Buena Onda and would stay here again if I were in the area. The fact that you're literally on the beach makes this 100% worth the stay.
