The resort was quaint, clean and the staff was extremely friendly and attentive. They greeted you with cocktails upon each arrival and brought fresh coffee and orange juice to your room at wake-up call. Although they said the fishing was the slowest they've ever seen during our weekend stay, the fish that we did catch were amazing - mahi mahi and sailfish. We also saw many sea turtles and dolphins. Hard to complain about slow fishing when you are outside enjoying the beautiful blue ocean and sunshine all day. The resort owner was very friendly and we hope to be back soon.

I have fished with guides in Alaska and it's a great fishing experience -- but that's it, just fishing. This was a great vacation in total: fantastic fishing, and also a lovely lodge with good people, food, and drinks. Even the weather was perfect. What a treat, sunshine and 80 degrees in January.||||Jody and Susy are great hosts. They and their staff (Ulysses in particular, a kind of bilingual does-everything manager) tend to your every need. I even got some fishy laundry done. ||||We blue-water fished three days. I caught nine sailfish, 80 to 90 pounds apiece, and a nice dorado (mahi) of about 23 pounds. Tito the boat captain and the deck hands/guides Chuy and Manuel were awesome. They were friendly, competent, energetic, and found fish. We also had a day fishing in close where we caught jack crevalle and barracuda.||||Ate lots of seafood. Chuy even cooked up the mahi on board for lunch.

Going back to this wonderful place in Guatemala! And taking friends along this time too! Can't wait to arrive. the best "southern" hospitality you could ever imagine! They are most accommodating to make your customized fishing trip very enjoyable.

This was my 9th trip to Buena Vista Sportfishing Lodge. I travel quite a bit and fish in many different places, but I return here every year because it is absolutely the best sport fishing location that I have found. I have visited with family members and with friends and we have always had a great experience. The owners (Jody and Suzie) are actively involved with the Lodge and help coordinate every aspect of our trips. They arrange the airport pick up, fishing charters and all of our other side trips and excursions. The staff is attentive to every need, the restaurant is a beautiful open air building, overlooking the water and boat slips, with world class meals. The Lodge and grounds are very clean and immaculately maintained.||I will be back again next year and highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Guatemala.

My two sons took me here for my 70th birthday. We arrived in Guatemala to find our driver waiting for us with our names on a sign. It was about 9 PM and he offered to take us to dinner but we wanted to get going. Upon arrival at the Lodge there was a nice light dinner waiting for us. At 6 AM we boarded the Legacy and headed offshore. Over three days we released 28 sails and raised probably 60, More than once we had two and even three sails on. We also caught a dorado and raised a nice marlin. I caught a wahoo that was close to 150 pounds. The boat crew and captain were experts. The lodge staff anticipated our every need and provided excellent food. I recommend this place without hesitation.

This little resort will make you quite comfortable and "Jody's Restaurant" is right on site. Very clean air conditioned rooms with queen size beds and local TV. They have various activities that take you offsite such as, bird hunting, golf, sportfishing and trips to local cities. OR you can hang out at the pool and lay in a hammock all day. Very friendly and helpful staff. Reasonable pricing.

We stayed at Buena Vista Sport Fishing Lodge as part of a week long research project off of the Port of San Jose. The owners, Jody and Susy, were extremely supportive of our research and did everything they could to ensure our success. The accommodations were great, food at the restaurant is fantastic, and the staff from the boats to the hotel were awesome. This is a top notch operation! Although we were doing research we saw another group staying at the lodge catch 13 sailfish in a single day. I can't recommend Buena Vista Sportfishing enough, and hope to get back soon to truly enjoy it as a vacation.

Absolutely the best fishing. You will never experience deep sea fishing like this. Average 12 sails (catch and release per Guatemalan law) per boat per day. Fresh fish served on board and captain and boat crew are very experienced and make sure your day is the best ever. Food and drink in the lodge is very good and you can get most any dish prepared to your preference. Lodge staff is above and beyond. Interesting day trips if you are not fishing. We want to go back soon!
