Wasn't sure what to expect when we came here -- I overheard a worker at one of the port houses in Gaia explaining that the nearby restaurants were tourist traps, and recommending this as one of the best places for authentic local francesinha.
So, we immediately headed out, and it's a bit out of the tourist areas to get here... definitely on the fringes, but walkable. (Although we passed right by, it is that hidden and nondescript! Even when I turned around, it looked closed and out of business... but turned out to have plenty of people inside!)
The francesinha here is certainly good -- the bread is toasted perfectly, the sauce is a little spicy and tangy, just right, and the steak inside is cooked perfectly. The little linguica on top is tasty.
However, the price was actually a little higher than expected for a "locals place"... we had one francesinha (split in half), two small Sagres beers, and a plate of french fries... total came to 14.50 euro (which is not bad, per se, but is about the same price as it would have been down in the closer, easier-to-reach and better-atmosphere touristy locations.)
I didn't see any sort of menu or price list, so I'm not sure what the actual breakdown was...
In any case, quite good francesinha, but be prepared to pay the price for it...
(Also, I'm not sure how good their English is... I stumbled through in my broken Portuguese, but the waitress also knew at least a little bit of English)
