Buffalo Bill's Irma Hotel & Restaurant

BANGING PIPES 4:30AM (edit swung back through Room 47 should be Avoided at ALL COST. Loud diesel trucks late at night sat. and traffic noise 6am (probably would have slept through that but for the banging)... AND VERY VERY LOUD BANGING PIPES AT 4:30 AM THAT KEPT BANGING UNTIL I LEFT AT 7AM FOR BREAKFAST.) I have a 14 hour drive today back home needed every minute of sleep... Pot Pie dinner was excellent. I don't want to give this update.... Sad Original ... Had dinner and a room. Dinner was 16oz Prime Rib. It was perfect. Baked potatoe had a little dirt grit. Had to stop when I hit that and spit out a mouthful into a napkin. Soup was ham and bean which was delicious very slightly salty and I like salt, and creamy mushroom vegetable. It was perfect. Everyone was the perfect ratio of attentive but left ya alone to eat. Rooms are rooms, this is a very old hotel, everything was clean and functioned. This hotel is cool, the staff were great and the prices in early winter were reasonable. I'm happy.

This is a great choice if you want to be near everything Cody has to see. I was amazed that there was FREE parking and we could come and go with our car whenever we wanted. We could walk to the tourist information center, all the restaurants, gift shops and if had needed to, we could have walked to the Buffalo Bill Cody museum. It’s an older hotel so luxury wasn’t expected. We got a clean room with windows that actually opened, a mini fridge and a laid back atmosphere throughout the hotel, restaurant, bar and gift shop that was exactly what we wanted. Of course we reveled in the mounted bison, elk and other head’s everywhere you look. This was the Wild West vibe we had come to see. The staff were attentive to our needs.

The food was great. Ate here twice & both meals were enjoyable & hit the spot! They have a fake gun shootout/skit at 6pm nightly except Sunday. I wouldn't say it was very exciting & the one w watched in tombstone was better, but for free it wasn't bad

I didn’t stay at the hotel, my friends and I ate at the restaurant. We LOVED it! I got the Spinach Artichoke dip appetizer and it was the best I’ve ever had. The pita chips served with it were warm and soft, it was incredible. Our waitress was so sweet, I wish I remembered her name!! We are a bunch of 20 year old goofballs and she was laughing with us when we were being stupid. The service? Incredible. The food? The best. 10/10

We ate at the restaurant for lunch. Staff was very friendly. The ambience was excellent. Historical pictures and artifacts were placed in key locations throughout the establishment giving a nostalgic feel. The steak salad, patty melt, fish and chips and prime rib were all excellent. Definitely worth the time and money. Highly recommend!

This hotel is amazing! Beautiful and so historic! You walk in time when you enter! Clean huge rooms, and we had dinner that was delicious. I had the buffet and Prome rib, ham, veggies , mashed potatoes, warm rolls and more i forgot! Oh and the bread pudding was dessert and was so good! I have never had it before ! I walked around enjoying all the hanging artwork and antique items! The ceilings were so high and I could just picture this place a hundred yeats ago. Great central location to walk and has its own good size parking lot and spots along the street.

The restaurant is terrible. Don't bother. Some manager must be trying to cut costs and get a bonus: in a state where all the beef is fresh and good they are using Frozen pre-made hamburgers. It was inexcusable really bad tasteless, borderline inedible. Even the rolls were generic supermarket rolls. The buffet was slightly better and had plenty of proteins that were made on promises. But other than meat and a pretty tasty salmon, there was not much else. No real dessert and an OK but not great salad bar. It's a place being run to the penny and not giving you what you're there for. There are many other restaurants in town that are better for the same price.

We ate at the restaurant and were not disappointed! We both had prime rib and soup/salad bar! Service great, friends and on top of our drink level. We did get there right before it started getting busy, and we observed the staff staying busy but not rushed.

Swing by Cody for a business meeting. Found most reviews are during yellow stone busy season so decided to write one during off-season. Off season, Irma hotel and buffet are very slow but the food is definitely better than busy season (when tourists show up for yellow stone). Highly recommend the clam chowder. I know Wyoming isn't really famous for any of that but their clam chowder is very good. We ordered the prime rib sandwich, the bison ribs, and the buffalo sandwich/burger. If you don't like heavy meats, stay away from bison ribs cuz it's super heavily seasoned to cover bison's distinctive gaminess. Also it's not as tender as you want it to be. The regular burger and the steak were pretty good from Irma. It's quite consistent. Surprisingly, the fries were very good. Especially the onion rings. Give it a try, for meat lovers, this place might be a pleasant surprise. But if you are looking for more delicate presentation and more distinctive tastes, I will recommend you some other spots around town in my other reviews. Enjoy the wilderness and nature ~

Breakfast was horrible, it was a buffet with dried out eggs, uncooked bacon...everything was either empty or cold. So sad because the ambiance is very good.

Service was quick and friendly. The decor was beautiful- tables were very close and hard to get in and out of without people bumping into you or you bumping into them. We ordered 3 different entrees. Fish and chips- fish was hot and portion was very large- excellent fish - fries were cold. Chicken pot pie - huge portion, pastry was delicious, loaded with chicken- wish there were more vegetables and a little on the dry side. Prime Rib, Baked potato and salad bar. Salad bar was basic - potato was fine -smaller size but adequate. However, the prime rib was the best I have ever eaten, melt in your in your mouth with no marinate flavor - just incredible prime rib!

If you are around Cody I would recommend to visit the Irma Restaurant, it is full of history and very good food and drinks . They have a patio area where you can have a drink and enjoy watching the gunfighters show. It is busy during summer, I would recommend to make a reservation.

After seeing some of the reviews we went in with pretty low expectations, but we were pleasantly surprised. It was a Sunday night so it was not super busy. I had the ribeye and baked potato and it was really good. They give you lots of butter and sour cream which was fantastic. My boyfriend had the prime rib, it was also very good. He ate the whole thing! Salad bar was basic, but good. Tomato bisque soup was very good. The food came out really quick, overall the service was good.

This is the place to visit if you want great Buffalo Bill Cody lore!! Very cool vibe and feel, both inside and outside. The service was interesting.... Nice but also in a weird way kinda strange. We ate dinner and breakfast here. Dinner was ok- you can order off the menu or get the buffet. Husband loved the buffet, I loved my pasta carbonara special ( this large portion provided one dinner and two lunches!) . Unfortunately the breakfast buffet was all that was offered and our friend was hoping to order off the menu. But all in all this was a cool experience. It was fun to poke around the hotel, lobby, and building to read about the history. Take lots of pics!!!

Ambience is awesome. What a historic gem. Even if you don't stay or eat here, stop in for a drink and look the place over. Interesting history and employees are happy to discuss the building, history and may even show you a ghost in a photo. Food was fabulous. Jambalaya was available as a soup selection and it rivals some we have had in Louisiana. If possible try the prime rib. Well prepared, seasoned and a juicy delicacy. If you arrive on the right day you can take advantage of the two for one dinner specials. Cocktails are good and reasonably priced.

Bar, salad, and server were great, but our sirloins were so overcooked we couldn't eat them at all. Told our server and she agreed she wouldn't eat it either. Steak was not redone. We were given half off our meal.. that we didn't eat.

The positive first, the restaurant has good historical ambiance. There is a good amount of options on the menu. The service was slow, my iced tea glass became empty and stayed that way. My daughter steak was over cooked. My pork chop was amazing. The low rating has more to do with the quality of service than food. Everyone should eat here just know what you're getting into.

We are staying for one night here in Cody and this place was recommended for steak. The place was very western giving respect to Buffalo Bills. The decor has preserved animals hanging on the wall. Has a lots of old pictures of the people during Cody's time. It has huge history. The place was big and busy . We got seated right away even there was a long list. The server was very nice. I got the all you can soup and salad. The selection of veggies were very limited. The dressings has no name in place. The soup has corn chowder and beef veggies . The corn chowder was so thick and beef has lots of beef slices. My husband got the prime rib western cut. He enjoyed it. I tasted it and it was good. But it is a must see the Irma's hotel due to their history. Food wise it was ok and reasonable. This is only based on my experience .

We ordered our entries 1 salad & 1 burger. The Waitress mislead us told us we could go to the buffet since our dinner was taking a long time since we ordered. My husband & I took small portions since we knew our entrees were being prepared. We went to the buffet & she told us she only ment the soup & salad at the buffet while we were to wait for our dinner. We asked the waitress to cancel our 2 entrees. We paid $93.00. We paid 3 times more than the original bill. She charged us for buffet & our entrees. Service was terrible. Food wasn't worth the value. Felt we were at Kings Table buffet.

Classic dining in an awesome historic building. Prime rib was good, great salad bar and nice choices for those going the full buffet route. Kind and accommodating service and such a cool environment for a history buff. Enjoyed the Shootout performance in the street outside before dinner as an added bonus!

While visiting Cody we ate at Irma's restaurant in the historical hotel. I tried to Buffet and do not recommend it. Of all the choices they offer the only item that was worth the price was the prime rib. I got and end cut and it was very good. The service was also good the waitress took good care of us, making sure we were taken care of but did not Hover. The ambiance is old west and cover walls with animal heads. There are guns claiming to be those of historic connections to Cody, bit taking with locals they tell me there is no proof just advertising to get people in. My wife had the prime brisket burger and she says it was amazing with fries. It had to be great because she ate it all no doggie bag. The price was right and if you're hungry give them a try. Just order from the menu not the buffet for lunch.

Cowboy Burger was outstanding. Don't miss this as a lunch stop in Cody. $18 with side of potato

We stopped to here here on our road trip and were pleasantly surprised by the food!! The prime rib is amazing and worth getting. By far the best steak I've had!! The salad bar had a great and beautiful set up!! And the service was outstanding! Becca was great and sweeter than sweet!! Lastly the home mad bread pudding was the best we have ever eaten... I'd drive back for that any day!!! Thank you!

Sorry to say, this was a disappointment. I'd read other reviews, so I wasn't expecting excellent. But the "steak" I had was probably the worst steak I've had in a really long time. The all you can eat prime rib dinner had a line of people crowded around the buffet line, probably close to 50 people deep. I went because I wanted to see the history. It was there, sort of. It's obviously the same hotel Buffalo Bill built. And it was decorated in the period. The bar is there, but it seems pretty stripped down. The dining area where we eat was large and looked good except for the large screen tv that definitely isn't period correct.

3 stars for acknowledging they are an overpriced, less than mediocre, tourist trap. Stick with beer (bottled) and the bar tender can't screw it up. I don't think I'd order food here. If the "gunfight" is going on, pay your tab and leave. It's that bad.

We entered from the side. This place was packed with people. Interior is Wild West decor with lots of wood and historic photos. We came during the supper buffet. We were seated in the lounge area. Wait staff extremely busy, but friendly and attentive. Some of us opted not to have the Prime Rib buffet and ordered from the menu. Price for salad bar, one trip salad and soup was reasonable.

A great place for dinner with a nice soup and salad bar. Very good prime rib with great service and interesting animal decor. I would visit again.

While on a road trip we ate here Wednesday evening, June 11. We both had the $40 prime riin and ham buffet. Big mistake. The prime rib was very tough (although the horseradish was great!) and the ham cold. Other items were mediocre. Certainly not what one would expect for $40 a plate. We were seated right next to the kitchen door, which was no big deal, but I say it because once our server took our order she never came back until it was time to give us our check, in spite of the fact she walked by us to and from the kitchen repeatedly. Our iced tea drinks were not refilled In spite of the fact they were sitting empty, clearly visible. I'll not return.

Really enjoyed The Irma, had a great family dinner and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. I had the Bison Burger and it was delicious!

The hotel is very nice to see and look around but it's very crowded with dinner tables as it is used for a dining establishment, more than historical visit. I've had better dinner buffets. Irma has a reputation but I necessarily don't feel the food was as great.

All-you-can-eat buffet is great Reasonably priced and great service! Alot of fascinating history in this hotel/restaurant and in the heart of Cody WY. Highly recommend!

Yummy all you can eat breakfast. They had a lot of options, seemed to run out fast but was quick to refill. The price cannot be beat. Also we had a younger waitress which was so nice, well mannered and kept our waters filled. The men in our group couldn't stop looking at the guns they had posted over on the side walls.

Excellent steaks! Breakfasts are good as well. Unbeatable historic atmosphere! I patronize this place because if the historic effort of preservation. Wonderful holiday decor. 2 dining rooms, governors room, friendly bar. Staff are fun locals. Still want to do a stay in the hotel. Great music events, gun fights, and entertainment on the veranda. A must stop for any tourist. Kids will get a kick out of this as well. So much to see@

Wow! Lot's of low-rated reviews for a bad tourist experience at the buffet here. I think that paints a deceptive picture for this iconic old West hotel. I didn't stand in line for all-you-can-eat prime rib with my cranky children from Michigan or Florida or wherever. I stayed at the goddamn hotel. This is a hotel, right? This place is awesome! It's a piece of wild west history. The rooms are incredible. You'd expect them to be very tiny, as this is a 19th century establishment, but I've always stayed in luxurious, big rooms with stuffed leather chairs and tables. They look the vintage part. I've stayed her twice and loved it both times. Despite its history, the prices are reasonable--no higher than other hotels/motels in Cody, and yet right on the main drag with walking access to all kinds of stuff. Now onto that buffet. The dining room is equally spectacular, complete with a stuffed cougar on the wall, and buffalo heads, and whatnot. This is a wild west tourist destination after all. It's cool. It's what you came for, right? They regularly have an all-you-can-eat buffet (nightly I think, but I'm not sure), featuring prime rib. I think this is where things go sideways for expectations. Telling people "for a fixed price I'm going to let you eat as much meat as you want" is a tough business model. All-you-can-eat anything is mostly bullshit food. As a business owner you simply cannot pull out all the stops and remain profitable. I'm always dumbfounded by people who go to an all-you-can-eat place and expect a Michelin 4 star experience. If you want a life-altering dining experience, you have to pay! And pro tip: don't go to an all-you-can-eat buffet. High quality dining experiences will never involve "as much food as you can stuff down you gullet." Do you want the finest quality food, or do you want as much food as you can stuff into your body? Because you can't have both. You have to choose. No business can stay in business by offering both . Speaking of which, if you don't like buffets, order from the menu like people do in any other restaurant. The buffet has prime rib, which is decent. I didn't orgasm when I ate it. I didn't write letter to my mother regaling her with how mind-blowing the experience was. It was good prime rib. Not great. Good. They also had roasted ham, which was also good. No great ham. Good. Some salad. Mediocre. Some green beans. Okay. Some kind of potato. I stayed away. I don't do carbs, so I can't comment. Also, to live up to its tourist expectations, they have buffalo ribs. Not Buffalo wings (Buffalo here meaning Buffalo New York, and wings meaning chicken). Buffalo ribs (Buffalo meaning the North American bison and ribs meaning the ribs of this giant beast). How are they? Well, they're big. A lot like beef ribs, but larger. More a novelty I guess. You can tell the folks back home that you ate Buffalo. Nothing outstanding, but what you'd expect. I had seconds. I liked them. That said, I've had better ribs many, many times. You should go. It's an experience. Ratchet down the all-you-can-eat buffet expectations. Note that it's a popular tourist destination in a tourist town and plan accordingly. It might be packed and it might be better to retreat and come another time, maybe in another life. Better yet, stay in the hotel. It's a hotel after all.

Atmosphere was cool - very limited menu. Our service was not great, but when we checked out they were aware and said they were working on it. Buffet was $35 which seemed pretty high for the options they had.

We had a family lunch today and Tammy was our Server. She was exceptionally attentive and warm to our family throughout the meal. I would recommend this place wholeheartedly.

We did not stay in the hotel, but wandered into the restaurant on the 5th of July, worn out after driving from eastern Washington state to Cody over the the course of the previous two days. The staff was remarkable, the buffalo burger was the BEST BURGER I have EVER HAD. The entire business could serve as a history museum in its own right as there were fascinating bits and pieces of history throughout the building.

We loved the atmosphere of being in Irma's while on vacation. The food was ok but the service was not customer friendly. Our server was busy so after visiting the salad bar I went to the hostess desk where two female employees were standing by the register to ask if the soup was gluten free due to a wheat allergy. Both looked at me strangely and I explained the allergy then the one said "I have no idea". You would have thought that one of them could go check. Nope. Just had to skip that portion of the meal.

Ok, for one this restaurant is just ok. Everything about it is ok. Service, food, atmosphere, all ok at best. Got the prime rib it was luke warm. I like the history of this place, so ya I'd tell people to go here but keep your expectations low. If your in Cody there are better places for sure!!!

Stopped here after shopping and touring the buffalo Bill museum. The decor is worth the stop in alone. It's exactly what you think a showman from turn of the 20th century would decorate as. We had three salads and a bison burger. They were all ok. We came for the decor and history which was worth it. Service was good and personable. Would be fine for kids - no worries there. If you are looking for a five star meal, go elsewhere. If you are looking for a meal that's a part of the American west history, stop in.

TLDR: Decent buffet, good service, western styling and ambiance. Great Price! Came here for breakfast buffet. Very affordable and the food is decent. Food: Breakfast Taco: 3/5 - Simple tortilla and toppings provided. Pork/Bison Sausages: 5/5 - Good seasoning, taste great. Biscuits and Gravy: 4/5 - Very good, although Annie's across the street is better for me personally. Flavor profile is more traditional. Pancakes and French Toast: 4/5 - Small light and fluffy. Just becareful if you put the whiskey sauce for the bread pudding on them. They will soak up all that whiskey flavor and surprise you. Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce: 5/5 - Very tasty especially with the Whiskey Sauce, the sauce does not over power the bread pudding and compliments it well. *Whiskey Sauce actually contains Whiskey*

What a fun place! Who would have expected live music, a packed house and (yes, really) an impromptu leg wrestling contest, in the bar, on a TH night! That was a first! Often there is dancing but leg wrestling?? My germ-a-phobic self kept me out of the competition but it was hilarious watching others work on their immune systems and athletic prowess!

Went for the lunch buffet and it was by far the worst I've ever had. Menu is very deceiving, it says may include all items listed. They did not have the brisket, chicken, ribs, and cowboy beans. Roast beef was tough and the lasagna was the worst I've ever had.(it was ground venison and noodles, no sauce).They also charge extra for a small salad bar.

Our second time dining here. Food was fine, but the waitress this time had a sour attitude.

Stayed at the hotel and ate dinner at the restaurant. Solid Buffett with prime rib and fantastic burger. Hotel was clean and comfy.

Food was fine but the waitress talked over us and acted as if we were inconveniencing her by eating lunch. Never came back to ask us how our meal was. We were met with a sigh when we asked what beers they had on draft. I could barely finish my order before she moved onto the next person.

Try the Rocky Mountain Oysters! The original sack lunch. Came in for dinner, and ended up getting cow balls. Waitress: "You know those ain't seafood, right?" This place is super historic! See that big wooden bar? It was gifted to Buffalo Bill by Queen Victoria! Whoa! What a bar! The whole place looks like an old west movie, with dead animal heads everywhere. You can just feel the historic energy that this place emits. You should go here just to check out the art. They had live music, a country and western band who rocked the house. On the TV they play Fox News. Gentlemen don't take their cowboy hats off when they enter this place. It doesn't seem to be solely a tourist trap, as many of the cowboys in here seemed legit. They offer a healthy selection of local beers and whiskeys. The bartender pours with a heavy hand! Yehaw! The food wasn't that great. The Rocky Mountain Oysters tasted like overcooked chicken fried steak, served with horseradish cocktail sauce. The fish was overcooked too. But the local beers, live music, and giant shots of whiskey made up for it all.

Service was great and fast, we went at about 6pm while the shoot out was going on outside so it wasn't too busy, I was told there was no need for reservations unless your party is over 6 people, the buffet also looked good and there was a stocked salad bar where you can make your own salad and 2 soup choices (when we went it was chicken noodle and clam chowder, I got the clam chowder and it was alright but I don't think I'd recommend it). We went mostly for the ambiance of the historic hotel which did not disappoint and we left around 6:45 where we got to see the rest of the shoot out which was funny and entertaining.

Very crowded and rushed. Pushed the buffet. Ordered prime rib that had more fat than meat. Server was forgetful. Brought 2 glasses of wine when only 1 was ordered. Brought the check without asking if we wanted dessert. I understand the building is old and historic but it should still be clean. Using same dirty rags to clean tables.

This is when I wished I could eat more. Had a large breakfast in Montana and only had a small appetite for a Caesar side salad. There was a prime rib buffet for $29. On a day when I didn't eat much, I could have scarfed down some prime rib. Spouse wanted chicken pot pie, a specialty of theirs. But they were out and he had chicken fried steak. I had a few bites. The place was busy. It's named after Buffalo Bill's daughter Irma. We didn't stay at the hotel as it was Uber expensive. Due to flooding at North entrance to Yellowstone, we needed to stay in Cody and enter from the east entrance.

Rueben was big & tasty but the corned beef was cut too thick & cut with the grain so was a little tough! Waitresses were super nice so will give another try but maybe order something else

We were stopped in Cody, WY. After leaving Yellowstone and changing our road trip route. We are hoping to find a room but to no avail. We decided to eat since it was late and had a 3-hour drive to our hotel in Buffalo. It was perfect. Yes, they were out of a few things. But it was expected. We have been in several chain restaurants on our trip that have been out of more. The atmosphere was great. The waitress was so concerning about our lack of hotel and worried about my mom not eating the bun. ( gluten-free ) My Rueben was delicious. All four adults were happy and full. The bill was 52.00. Less than Denny's the night before. We made it to our hotel 3 hours later at 12:30 am. No one sick or having to use the rest area. That is a plus! Thank you! Cody is lovely, but they need more hotels!!! For a place with such bad reviews, it was packed!

Nice place to stop in, to soak in the history of Buffalo Bill and the region. There is a free outdoor show (Wildbunch shootout) daily during the summer months which might be worth seeing if you are in the area and have 30 minutes.

LOVED IT!. There was 6 of us and we walked in just wanting to have a drink at the fancy bar. Well the fancy bar given to Mr Cody by the Queen is for pictures only. We decided to stay for dinner. The very excellent host sat us down pretty quick when the place looked jam packed for people having dinner at the buffet. We all chose to order from the menu and everything we had was excellent. Best part, is that when we asked our lovely server if we could each have separate checks she didn't bat an eye and just said , sure, no problem! Food was delicious and we couldn't have been happier. One of my most memorable meals while traveling in this part of the country. Hopefully I'll make it back there again one day.

We had dinner here tonight, Sunday, November 12, 2923; I ordered the grilled pork chop. The kitchen was very slow, we waited at least an hour! The pork chop was so very dry it was inedible! The waitress was extremely kind, she asked to owner to adjust our bill. The unreasonable owner told her if we had a problem to come and talk to her ourselves! Seriously?? This is how they want to conduct business? Well you don't get a recommendation from me! If your kitchen fails, you have a responsibility to make it right!! ! We did have lunch there also, I had the Bear Food salad, which was very good, that is the only reason I gave the second star!

Well, not having been beck to Cody for too many years to consider, things sure have changed. Town is pretty busy compared to last time through. We tried the Irma in the hopes it would be a nice homey choice. The service was good once seated but getting in was a big hassle. Seems you were expected to know what the regulars know about getting seated, which took quite a while. We ordered and must admit the food was pretty okay. We had chicken fried steaks. The real problem were the damn flies. We got buzzed on and off for the entire meal. One landed in my gravy and that sort of signalled the end of my patience, I was done. Considering the noise, crowd, and the just okay chow, I'd look elsewhere on any future visits. If I'd been eating at an outside table things might have been less of an issue; but at this price point I expected better than what was given. Not happy.

Excellent, excellent meals, hubby had prime rib, very tasty and I indulged on the Chicken Pot Pie, again excellent! Wonderful old times decor, Wild Bill all the way! And a tribute to our fallen servicemen/women, brought me to tears. We topped it for with homemade apple pie!
