I guess it was on us to even think that we could get a nice Korean BBQ before The Brooklyn Mirage show in the first place. I don't know what we were thinking. But even considering that, our experience at this restaurant left us with much to be desired.
First of all, we were there at around 9pmish which is still early for weekend night and they told us that we couldn't have BBQ because "they have to prepare meat in the morning". What? If you are advertising themselves as Korean BBQ but only serving until earlier, they need to be clear about that on the advertising. I saw another group who came after us that walked out for this exact reason.
Another thing - there were 3 of us (one Asian but non-Korean which is me and 2 whites) and we wanted to take the booth seat and they said we couldn't because that was reserved for a group of 4 or more. (And the place was far from full) Well, guess what, after us, there were another group of 3 girls who are Korean looking Asians who were seated at the booth seat with no problem. And the place was still not full. So what the hell is this? Oh, by the way though, the ones who walked out because they couldn't get BBQ was 3 blacks. I'm not implying anything, I'm just pointing this out. But you know what I mean by that.
On to the food - even though we couldn't get the BBQ, since we didn't feel like traveling again before the show so we stayed. We had Chickens (one Yang Yum which we agreed that was the only decent food from this evening and soy garlic which we sent back to the kitchen), Dolsot Bibimbap (which was fine but they didn't even bother helping us mix the ingredients after arriving at the table like any other Korean restaurant worth a salt would do) and Japchae which also was stale and almost sent back to the kitchen. And we were sort of shocked that Chickens came out not even 5 minutes after we ordered - these things take time and usually at any Korean restaurants, we'd expect them to be made to order - which means most likely they gave us items that have been sitting for a long time. That explains the bad taste we had especially for Japchae and soy garlic chickens. Honestly we were baffled at this whole thing.
Icing on the cake was this- one of the waitress yelled at us saying how desrespecful we were and they were just workers, not running this place etc after we requested to return the soy garlic chickens - but the thing is, we weren't saying anything to them until that moment and saying to us all that after we expressed ligitimate concerns tells us a lot about how they run this restaurant. Truely not a good look at all.
We observed whoever came and sat after us and most of them were ordering burger or wrap etc so probably this is that kind of place and maybe they can get away with that and still calling themselves Korean BBQ restaurant in this particular neighborhood. But really if you want the legitimate Korean food, this definitely isn't it and considering the quality of service we received and all, we highly doubt we'd be returning, I don't think they'd want us back either and I highly recommend you all to go elsewhere (even though it means going outside of this neighborhood) for a better quality Korean restaurant, both for food and service.
