I visited this temple in Gyeongju on a beautiful, almost summery winter day, and it turned out to be a wonderful experience. I’ve seen many temples across Asia, so I thought I knew what to expect, but this one felt especially unique because of its setting. I can imagine how stunning it must be during spring, summer, or autumn when all the greenery is at its peak. Still, I genuinely enjoyed being there in winter... every season brings its own charm, and winter is no exception.
What made the visit even better was how peaceful it was. Even though I came on a weekend, it was only moderately busy, and I saw hardly any European or Western tourists, which is quite different from other well-known hotspots I’ve been to.
I spent about an hour to an hour and a half just strolling around, reading a little here and there, but mostly letting myself drift and soak in the atmosphere. It was a really relaxing experience.
I’d recommend getting there by taxi or Uber (or KakaoTaxi). That’s what I did, and it worked perfectly. I’m not sure how convenient public transportation is, but using a ride-hailing service both ways was easy and stress-free. As one of the main attractions in the area, transportation options are plentiful, and the ride from the city center is comfortable and quick.
Overall, it was a beautiful temple and a nice outing. Recommended!
