Best Restaurants in Canada

"Bullocks’ is legendary Canadiana—a small wooden shack renowned for its rough and tumble service and giant portions of fried fish. Options include northern pike, Arctic char, and Great Slave cod, as well as muskox or caribou steaks for those after red meat. It’s located in Yellowknife on Great Slave Lake, capital of the sparsely populated Northwest Territories; the city is small, but its mix of industry, history, and art have made it a destination for people wishing to experience some eclectic northern culture and see the Aurora Borealis. facebook.com" - Food & Wine Editors

A crowded place in the foothill of Pilot's monument in Old Town Yellowknife. Full of tourists during rush hour, maybe some locals there intermittently. The food was good - fresh fish, 3 options of grilled, pan fried or fried. The pro tip is pan fried, not too oily, with good seasonings. The fish was wonderfully cooked, not overdone, allowing it's generous portions to be nuked in a hotel microwave later the following day without consequences. The bread is quite good. It's soft and fresh. The chowder is good, they put tumeric in it, keep it the hell away from your sweater. The place is maybe a tad expensive, 40$ CAD/plate. I would recommend this establishment.

Every tourist visiting the area should check out the famous restaurant Bullocks Bistro, renowned for its fish and chips. This cozy little restaurant features friendly staff and serves delicious food. The walls and ceiling are covered with numerous messages that showcase its popularity. We ordered fish and chips, ribeye steak, and local beers. Everything was juicy and flavorful. I highly recommend trying these dishes if you find yourself here!

landmark with a quirky, eclectic vibe, but it didn’t live up to the hype. The small space was **overcrowded**, and the long wait times made the experience stressful. While the atmosphere is fun and the house-made hot sauces are a standout, the food was disappointing—the **Deep Fried Cod** was heavy and bland, and other dishes felt average at best. The staff was friendly, but the overall experience didn’t justify the wait. **On the plus side, they now accept credit cards**, which makes things more convenient. Worth a visit for the vibe, but temper your expectations.

I loved it! The food was delicious, the staff was friendly and the place is clean. The only thing is that when I arrived there I was not sure if I had to pick myself a table or someone would tell me where to sit and such, the place has its own dinamic and locals know it but me, as a tourist had to ask to navigate around it. Not a problem, just an observation.

The decoration is pretty cool, we ordered Buffalo steak and pan-fried Whitefish, both of them are delicious, but the meal size is a bit small for a man. The salad dressing is special too, worth-a-try.

If you visit Yellowknife, you have to try their fish and chips. I had my best fish and chips in my life. It’s my first time I visited a restaurant twice in a trip. Cod was better than white fish.

Be aware that seating is very limited and tight, and be okay with sharing a table w strangers! Otherwise, this was AN AWESOME place to visit — what a fun idea! We had a great time and some excellent local culture food !! Kind of expensive but makes sense for the food you’re getting! Definitely recommend

This restaurant was a pleasant surprise—particularly the fish and chips, which were outstanding. The fish was incredibly fresh, and I appreciated the option to choose between deep-fried and grilled. We ordered three fish and chips: a deep-fried white fish, a deep-fried cod, and a grilled trout. The deep-fried fish had a perfect coating—crispy, but not too thick or oily. Both types of fried fish were cooked to perfection, and the grilled trout was equally impressive. The buffalo ribeye was decent, though not as exceptional as the fish. Another highlight was the herb and garlic salad dressing—though I found it slightly sweet, the rest of my group absolutely loved it. The only downsides were the cramped space and the long wait—55 minutes for our food—but despite this, it was a great dining experience overall.
