Compact, lively cafe & market supplying traditional Ethiopian meals, coffee & imported groceries.
"Coffee (or buna) has a rich history in Ethiopian culture. The coffee plant is native to Ethiopia, and the drink brewed from its berries has its own rich customs. Buna maintains this culture with regular coffee tastings, traditional Ethiopian coffee, and an espresso bar with a full menu." - Oren Peleg, Eater Staff
"The Mint is not only a great place to see up-and-coming musicians and comedians perform, but it is also a short distance from Little Ethiopia. Head to Merkato for deliciously spiced dishes like fir-fir and yesega sambusa, along with plenty of injera bread and Ethiopian honey wine. —Oren Peleg, Eater LA contributor" - Mona Holmes
"Directly next door to Merkato is another market and restaurant, Buna. It opens at 9:30am—the earliest in the neighborhood—making it a natural fit for breakfast. There are a handful of tables inside, but we like sitting out on the sidewalk where you get a front-row seat to nearby markets unloading produce and people walking around, all while scarfing down platters of scrambled eggs and timatim fitfit. They also offer a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony where beans are roasted in a pan and passed around the table for everyone to smell, then ground and brewed in a jebena." - Brant Cox
"Rely on this Ethiopian coffee shop and market for breakfast in Little Ethiopia. They open at 9:30am (the earliest in the neighborhood). "Equal parts coffee shop, market, and excellent Ethiopian restaurant, Buna is your one-stop-shop for handcrafted drums, jewelry, large tubs of spices, as well as beef tartare, fiery hot beef stew, and homemade tiramisu. We particularly like the meat combo, which involves both the lamb and beef stew, and all the injera one can handle. They also have a few tables outside that are great for leisurely grabbing a cup of coffee and chatting with a friend. Available for takeout, delivery, and limited outdoor seating." - brant cox, kat hong
