On the Grid : Bunbougu Cafe

"Omotesando continues to grow with creative cafes and this one comes combined with a stationery shop. It’s a brilliant idea since cafes and stationery often go hand in hand. They even host events and seminars in collaboration with stationery brands." - Misa Matsuda Maraun

Went for the mob psycho cafe event with my mother and sister, however was told that there were only seats for two, and that everyone would have to order both a food and a drink. I instead got takeout which was delicious, but was disappointed. However there were many art supplies available and I would like to return when they are not doing a promotion. Very close to harajuku, and i would suggest visiting harajuku before walking 5-10 minutes to the cafe and having a break as the best experience.

I visited this cafe in late March for the Blue Lock collaboration, near the end of my trip to Japan. It was one of three themed cafes I visited. I'd never been to a stationary cafe before, but I'm a big fan of Blue Lock, so I made a reservation. I enjoyed the food and the extensive range of merchandise that was available. Unfortunately, they'd run out of some of the items for certain characters, but I was still able to stock up on Nagi Seishiro goods. Overall, it was a great experience! Like with the other collaboration cafes I visited, a little preparation goes a long way. The menus and included goods were on the website, so I just had what I wanted in English, Japanese and as pictures on the notes app of my iPhone. Which made my non-existent Japanese skills less of a problem.

This is not a “bunbougu” cafe anymore. If you read the recent reviews, you can see that this place has become an anime collabo cafe. For example, the stationary magazine in the entrance is from 2023.8 and there is lots of dust on it 😭 All of the stationary related great reviews are from many years ago. Maybe the owner has changed? There are some selection of pens but some of them aren’t working… also the cafe menu is just generic stuff like napolitan pasta, which is disappointing considering the neighborhood. There aren’t any stationary themed menu anymore. Very sad to see this. if you’re looking for stationary related stuff, it’s not very recommended. I think this place should change its name.

Visited twice during the first period of the Bungo Stray Dogs collab. Food was the most delicious i've had for an anime collab and despite a language barrier the hosts were very kind + showed interest with guest's favorite characters. A lovely experience and would definitely visit again even outside of a collab!

Beautiful stationery with a delightful cafe that offers pretty good nosh while you use stationery at your table. Nice way to while away an afternoon in the heart of the city.

I really enjoyed my time there! The hosts were really nice and there was a big variety of pencils and colours to choose from. I went with my friend and we spent the whole afternoon until the closing time. The only weak point I could say is that there wasn't much to choose from in relation to food. But if you want to drink something and spend the time with friends or partner, I really recommend it!

It's cute in concept, but the stationery selection is okay. You're better off going to itoya in Ginza. The room is a bit dim for my liking. It can also feel a bit cramped even for Japan and with shoppers waking around cafe eaters it's a bit strange.

Terrible service. Had to wait a long time for our table to be cleaned and prepped. Told numerous times to wait a little longer (after the table was ready in front of our eyes) just to be seated. Churros were a joke. On a positive note, it is a pretty fun place to draw; hence, a star was given.

Yelp
*Note: I've walked inside to look at the stationary, but have not eaten or ordered coffee. Bunbougu Cafe is another cool Coffee +alpha cafe in Tokyo. The name says it all, this is a combination of a stationary store and a cafe! The selection of goods in this store is really interesting. They have unique journals themed to log your happy moments, vacation days, thankful thoughts, etc. that I haven't seen in major stationary stores. The most notable for me was the Bottle Letter (spelled Botle Letter in the photo lol), where you can write on the letter and give it to a friend as a present. The cafe has plenty of seats and didn't seem to be so busy. The website says they have free wifi and outlets too. Sounds like another great spot to go work and grab coffee :)

Yelp
I wasn't too impressed. It's big and there are tons of seats. But the stationery wasn't that cool, and they didn't have a single pasta dish they could (or would) adapt for vegetarians. 残念。
