Bunk'Art 2 was one of the places I definitely wanted to visit while planning our trip to Albania. I had read beforehand that the country has thousands of bunkers built during the communist regime, and I was really curious to understand more about that part of its history—especially since we also experienced communism in Czechoslovakia, although the public reactions and attitudes toward it seem quite different. (When we mentioned the topic to an Albanian man, his very defensive reaction actually made me even more curious.)
The bunker itself was fascinating. It’s large, with many rooms, and every space includes historical information, photographs, installations, and even a few interactive elements. It felt immersive and very educational. There weren’t too many people there, so it was easy to move around and take time to read everything.
Besides the historical value, it was also a nice escape from the city heat—the cool interior made it much more comfortable to explore. I honestly loved it and learned a lot; it gave me a much better understanding of Albania’s 20th-century history and how deeply the communist era shaped the country.
